This is a must see/go to place if you're in Lincoln. Hurts had endless possibilities for donuts, it was almost overwhelming. Surprisingly, my favorite was the blueberry something (I forgot the name but it's the plain little donut pictured in the top right corner). The guy who worked there suggested it & I reluctantly ordered it. So glad I did though. In order, I also really enjoyed the Nutella, strawberry cheesecake, and s'mores. The worms and dirt was good but I wish it would have had more gummy worms on it (only had one) considering it was a 'worms' and dirt donut. I had high expectations for the red velvet with cream cheese frosting which I thought would be the best of my 1/2 dozen but it was disappointingly my least favorite. It was a very dry cakey donut. Maybe it just happen to be a donut that was sitting overnight, I'm not too sure. I paid $11 for a half dozen of the speciality donuts. I believe they have a cheaper option if you let the employees pick for you. The overall concept and taste of their donuts were awesome though. They have one of the biggest selections of gourmet donuts that I have ever seen. It was pretty overwhelming. If you were buying these donuts in a big city they would easily be 3-4 dollars a donut. The flavors are very unique. Some of the flavors that our group got were chocolate Andes mint, cosmic brownie, and Oreo cheesecake donut. I took off one star because I think that the donuts could have tasted a little more fresh. One was really fresh and the other must have been sitting out. I feel like if I go to Donut Professor, I get very fresh donuts that are softer than some of the ones I got from here. I will still be back to try more flavors! read more

My family and I visited over the weekend. We got there around 6pm to get donuts for the next morning. When we walked in there were 3 employees working and no other customers in the store. After we reached the ordering counter, we ended up waiting 45-60 sec for the employees to finish the story they were telling before they paid any attention to us. I guess I shouldn't expect good customer service at a donut shop, but it would have been nice for a hello or thank you. The donuts themselves were good and what you'd expect. With the lack of customer service, I'll be trying other places next time we order. read more

The signage for this place is awful - I was trying to get there after seeing Matilda and it was a struggle - when I called they were not a lot of help - there is no real lighting and in fact there was a barricade that said the sidewalk was closed as I tried to get in. But I did make it in. I was fascinated with the types of donuts I saw and actually wish I was closer so I could try many of them. The donuts/rolls were too big for me - too much donut when I was focused on the frosting and flavors, but man were the ones I had delicious. I got a role - I love the whole way of ordering - if they get to chose the dozen - it's cheaper than if you chose your own. Blink and you'll miss it! Hurts is located in what appears to be some massive former government building in DT Lincoln. All I can tell you is that if you happen to snag a highly coveted and severely limited parking spot out front, just be happy! Otherwise you can park a couple blocks away in a metered spot like we did and dream of the donuts on your walk to Hurts! What a fun place for an incredible variety of donuts and breakfast rolls! We got the half dozen assorted donuts and an apple fritter. Creative variety of donut flavors as well as the traditional old-fashion. We were told that everything in the cases were made within the past 12 hours so they were all fresh. Since learning about Hurt's Donuts, I have been trying to find an opportunity to make the trip down to Lincoln to give them a shot. We loved the idea of having novel and unique donuts. So, on a recent Saturday morning, I got up early and made the trip down to pick up some donuts for the family. When I walked into the place, I was heartened. It smelled great and the case was full of a lot of interesting combinations of donuts. Unfortunately, as I started to review the specific offerings, it was all just "too much". I can't explain it other than that it seemed that the idea is to go over the top with sugary toppings. I understand that a donut is just deep fried sugar but this was egregious amounts of sugar. And maybe being over the top is the point. If so, it's just not something we look for in our donuts. But, they still have a lot of more traditional options, like chocolate long johns and glazed donuts. The glazed donuts were huge and actually pretty good, as was the glazed twist. I ordered a couple of streusel donuts, which were good. The chocolate long john was a disappointment, like they had been sitting out for a while. My wife noted the lack of freshness on the long john once I got them home. Two chocolate cake donuts were similar, not at all fresh. So, our overall assessment of the donuts was mixed. I ordered 14 donuts and the cost came to just over $26. A little higher than most places but I knew that coming in. I wouldn't mind that at all if the donuts exceeded my expectations but they actually fell quite short. The service was fine, though it didn't seem the employees were thrilled being at work. All told, perhaps, based on the reviews, my own preconceived expectations were too high and unfair. But, I would say overall I was disappointed with Hurt's. Even the more traditional donuts were got were generally lackluster. I can't see making the trip down from Omaha again and I likely wouldn't stop in even if we were in Lincoln for some reason. But, if you like your donuts with fruit loops on top of a thick layer of frosting, this might be just up your alley. It's just not our thing. read more

BEFORE knowing about HURTS, I would pass by the building would always note "hmm that donut ambulance is ADORABLE". I have yet to find a place in Nebraska that has donuts I can rave about, each falling short of the WOW factor, but I can happily Hurts Donuts has made a lasting impression on my list of noteworthy donuts. Many of their donuts are unconventional, so it CAN be a bit of a shock when you first see their ever expansive amount of choices. Yes, some are (in my opinion) TOO MUCH, meaning the toppings and the excessive amounts of frosting would make any normal human being cringe (Example: the idea of fruit loops on their donuts) There are some, such as the Jesus that is a lovely take on a churroesque donut. They have fun named ones, like the "Bart" which is covered in Butterfinger! My personal favorite was the pumpkin spice donut with cream cheese frosting. Inside a hole in the wall, you will find the most extravagant gems of donuts. Even if you don't indulge in donuts, looking at them is half the fun! I've been to Hurts twice and only indulged once, and I had the strawberry cheesecake donut. It was delicious and definitely decadent. I enjoy the more novelty type donuts, but they also have some more simple flavors as well. Checked this place out for the first time last night and it was disappointing! I wasn't properly greeted and felt rushed and judged by the black woman and red-headed cashier. Had to look at the menu because it was my first time ordering and they just were staring at me, went to the back to have a laugh then came back up. A recommendation would be nice. Words that come to mind when I think of Hurts: Whimsical. Creative. Happy. Fun. Delish. The teens and I stopped in this morning as we slept past breakfast at the Hyatt Place. The first thing I noticed were the whimsical themes for each of their donuts. Cookie Monster with the Google eyes and blue frosting. Little Timmy with the frosted animal cracker. Homer Simpson's neon pink forbidden donut. I appreciated the fun and creative nature of the bakery. It's similar to Voodoo Doughnut of Portland and Denver without the rated R double entendres or weed themed treats. I'm no prude, but I loved watching the families with small children enjoying a quick breakfast, and you just can't do that at Voodoo. The staff was fantastic. You can choose your own donuts or let the staff pick for you. They don't skimp, and you get a good mix when you leave it to the pros. I was disappointed this morning when I went into Hurts in Lincoln,NE. The workers did not have very good customer service. I asked for 4 donuts as I was just trying to feed my husband and I and the lady making the donuts in the back commented "your only getting 4 donuts really,go home you don't need to be here" I thought that was super inappropriate and made me feel terrible. Super chunky donuts - if you have a major sweet craving, this place will totally satisfy it. Also they are open on Sundays- two big thumbs up for that! I tried the Strawberry cheesecake, German chocolate and the red velvet with chocolate icing donuts. I loved the cheesecake and red velvet ones. The donut cake was a little heavier and it had this caramel coconut filling in the center- I mean that could just be lunch. While some are better than others, I mostly enjoyed eating donuts from this chain located in the historic Grand Manse in downtown Lincoln.
