He laughed hard when he first saw the name and was curious why we other two weren't enjoying the joke. I had never had the "Hurts Donut" trick pulled on me nor had our third buddy. Now I know about it and I didn't have to suffer the sick joke as a kid. Oh, about the donut shop... Good luck finding it. Siri got us to the exact location but there is no sign out front a large building that houses several businesses. The scout we sent to make sure we were at the right place happened to notice a young lady outside this big building wearing a "Hurts Donut" shirt. He waved us in. We were unanimous in that, of the wide variety of donuts in the display, none looked appetizing to us. We cannot judge if the donuts taste good since we did not buy any. We did spot a huge apple fritter in the corner of the display and we bought that and shared it. This fritter was really good. (Had it not been that employee's break time when we arrived, we may not have found Hurts Donut.)

Where they really shine for me is their donut cakes. I've ordered two donut cakes from Randy's, most recently a retirement-themed donut cake, and both were a huge hit with the crowd. They're fun, impressive, and make a great centerpiece for celebrations. That said, I've consistently had issues with the ordering process. Both times I ordered via email, the order was either lost or never fully confirmed. The first time I followed up well in advance, but the second time was more stressful--when I arrived at 6 a.m. to pick up the cake, it wasn't there. To their credit, the staff handled it well. They quickly made a replacement cake for the next day and offered it at half price. They also gave me free rolls the day of, which was a kind gesture, though I would have preferred having the cake as originally planned. In the end, everything worked out, but my biggest suggestion is to double or even triple-check event orders to avoid any last-minute surprises. The product itself is solid and always a hit--just be sure to confirm, confirm, confirm.

When I arrived, they handed me my order sealed and I returned home. After opening the box, I noticed I received 3 original glazed but none of the cinnamon rolls. The order was placed at 7:40 am. If they were out of cinnamon rolls by then, I'm assuming they didn't have any at all that day which leads to the question of how was I able to order something online that they didn't even make that day? Once they received the order, why did they replace the cinnamon rolls with the cheapest, most basic doughnuts instead of more of the other 3 types I ordered? Why didn't the staff mention it to me when I picked up the order that they were out and ask me what I wanted instead rather than let me find out the surprise once I got home and the issue couldn't be addressed? Why wasn't I refunded the $1.50 extra I paid for the cinnamon rolls when they were replaced by the most basic option? I filled out a survey they emailed me about my experience and asked to be contacted. It said I would be contacted in 2-3 days. It's been more than a week and they haven't contacted me. This isn't how you treat people in general, much less customers you want to return.

Over the last several years I've noticed a steady decline in the consistency of the quality of the donuts. Sometimes they were great, sometimes not. Now, at this point it's rare to have a donut as good as it was 5 years ago. They still make a tasty donut, just not the exceptional donuts that they used to be. The raised glazed unfortunately went from being the best in town to being the worst - even the grocery store raised glazed are better now. LaMar's raised glazed are under-proofed, and undercooked. COFFEE: If you're someone who takes your coffee seriously, don't buy it - it's outright bad. If you're someone who enjoys a sweet drink and you're not picky about the coffee, then you should be just fine.
