Fariner is one of my go to spots when in downtown Ashland. I've had their breakfast sandwich, several coffees, sourdough bread, and many of their baked goods. While everything is always good, their bakery items continuously blow me away. A coworker brought in chocolate croissants to work several months ago, and I haven't stopped thinking about this dang chocolate croissant since. The truth is, all of their baked goods are like this. Absolutely darling! What a pleasant surprise downtown Ashland. I didn't get a chance to swing by here last time I was in the area so I definitely went out of my way this time! The barista was an instant best friend and we happily yapped away as he prepared my almond cold brew. I also bought an apple muffin for later. The cold brew was an acidic light blend but still embodied a medium mouthfeel. Light on the tongue but not on the flavor. The apple muffin was a delicious treat with my coffee the next morning, still fresh with a sugar coated top - yum. This place is so cute, I love the decor and the variety of delicious options! I was told they usually have a line all the way to the door but we got lucky this time when we went on a Sunday morning. Still, my friend had ordered everything ahead of time so we could get what we wanted before they ran out. The Mexican s'more cream bun was incredible, the chocolate filling inside was a little spicy! And the little fluffernutter cookie sandwich was also SO soft and delicious. My friend's favorite was the corn chowder scone. I also liked that they had a little market area to shop from. - I visited Fariner with my cousin who recommended their fresh bakery items. This is a bit of a drive from Omaha, being out in Ashland, but definitely brings a small town feel. I felt transported to small town Nebraska, but with global access. Their shelves are fully stocked with unique items such as Spanish spreads, local honey, or small company kombucha cans. They are also a wine merchant, and had displays of a unique selection to explore. - The service was excellent, personable, individual, and did not feel that they were rushed but rather were invested in their conversation with me. I was debating between two pastry options, and the worker answered questions, telling me which were more popular and which were more rare in rotation. They were quite attentive! - The bakery item I decided on was a cardamom roll! I was drawn to this immediately and it is apparently not commonly in the rotation. The texture was great, with a sugared casing around my roll, and a soft flaky inside. The roll was not as strong cardamom as I imagined and prefer, it seemed to be mixed with some cinnamon - and tasted close to a typical cinnamon roll with a lighter flavor, not as heavy or overly sweet. The roll is large and I could have split it rather than eating the whole thing for myself! I ended up taking some home with me. I could tell it was freshly baked as well, which speaks to the quality of their bakery. - My cousin got a banana muffin, and we were both blown away! The banana seemed to be melting in your mouth, and the muffin was the most moist I've ever had! It was still warm, which took it from a 9/10 to a 10/10! Incredible. My cousin went back to buy another ! - I ordered an orange cardamom latte, and I will say I was disappointed. This is a BAKERY and not known for the lattes, but from a flavor profile this was a letdown. I did not taste any citrus and orange, and barely any cardamom. As these are flavors I crave, I was underwhelmed. Definitely not a bad plain latte, but the flavors could be worked on. - Overall, the essence of this location makes it worth the visit - and be sure to get a loaf of their fresh sourdough Togo, and a delicious pastry! read more

my goodness... I can't believe I have lived in Omaha all this time and never stopped in to this incredible bakery! My friend and I stopped in on a Saturday and had croissants together, I had the chocolate croissant and she had the turkey cheese croissant. We both agreed that these croissants were the closest thing that we have had since Europe in a long time! perfectly crispy on the outside, but soft and flavorful on the inside. They have this down to science! The ambience is so beautiful and genuinely does transport you to a European café, which, for a heart like mine...it was so refreshing. every detail of the space was made with artisan ship and intention, even down to the doorhandles. every corner of this bakery is beautiful and inspiring, the smells are to die for and so is the food -- we arrived around 930 on a Saturday and there was a line but not as long as it got when it got closer to 1030 / 11 o'clock! I personally didn't mind the line, it says something about how good it is!! but if you don't want to wait, the earlier the better to arrive. Fariner was a brilliant way to spend a warm fall Saturday this year! We scurried on over in the late morning, and the place was bustling! Like was all the way to the door for quite awhile. They were well staffed, and seemed to handle the crowds with ease. I was notified that their "thing" was sourdough boules, and that they put them out around 11am-noon each day (?), And quickly disappear as regulars and tourists pop in to clear the bread shelves. We didn't come planning to grab one, but the FOMO got the better of me I'm glad we did! It was soft, and delicious and we enjoyed every last bite! In addition to being a functional coffee shop (carrying Hardy Coffee from Omaha), a beautiful bakery, and just overall sweet space, they also have a small market to browse while you wait in line. You can grab a basket and throw together your own kit for a charcuterie snack, find some locally made goods for a beautiful gift, or grab a snack-y item to pair with your delicious drink. They do have a patio out back, and I highly recommend checking it out if the weather allows Clearly put a lot of thought into just about every nook and cranny of this space, and it's a lovely way to spend a few hours in small-town Nebraska. read more

Hard not to be impressed. It was busier in here than you'd expect from a bakery in a small town, and while I did wait in line for a while, I think it moved along at a reasonable pace. Their pantry selections are a little self-consciously "fancy," but that's a very minor sin in the scheme of things, and if nothing else, gives you a lot to pass the time looking at while you wait in line. I waited to get fresh focaccia and I'm glad I spared the ten minutes; I tore off a still-steaming hunk before I put it in my trunk to take home and just about moaned, it was so good. I picked up some cherry almond turnovers, cinnamon rolls, and caramel pecan rolls. The textures were flaky and the flavors were delicious.
