On Friday I had to run some errands with my 11 month old daughter. After spending two hours going hither and thither I was in the mood for something sweet from some place new. I searched Yelp for bakeries in Lincoln, ordered by rating and came across Emma Bakes. My first concern was that the reviews were from a year ago and later so I called to make sure they still existed. Once I confirmed I checked the map and found that they are located on O street. This left me wondering what parking would be like, but then I remembered I lived in Nebraska and even if it was street parking only I'd have options. Their location is on the South side of O street and comes complete with plenty of off-street parking. The shop is small but has a nice bright yellow sign out front and an yellow interior accent wall inside as well as plants and pastry cases. Each pastry is made on site and comes in its own resealable packaging. The proprietor, who I expect is Emma was kind and helpful. I selected 4 items and headed for home. I got an egg tart, a sausage and cheese bun, garlic bread, and a strawberry and cream cheese pastry. I started with the sausage and cheese bun, the non-sausage parts were a bit salty, not in a bad way, just a bit off. The sausage looked more like a hot dog than any special type of seasoned link. I have to say, after eating this I was concerned about the other items (I'd give this item 3 stars). Next I tried the egg tart, it was the last one in the store and the star of the other reviews I read. Oh my goodness, this was incredible, the crunchy-crispiness of the crust and the creamy subtle flavor of the center, it was perfection. Had there been more in the case I might have gone back and ordered a half dozen. Once my wife got home we split the strawberry pastry, it was also a solid five stars, great homemade filling, light flaky pastry dough, delightful. Finally, I cut into the garlic bread, it had quite a lot of cheese inside, tasted great and had a strong garlic kick. Overall, I will be back, either when they open or just after 1pm when the afternoon batch of pastries comes out of the ovens. Oh, and I should mention, they offer Banh Mi as well, I'll have to try those as well next time. read more

Omgosh EGG TARTS! It's like impossible to find fresh egg tarts in Nebraska. This place has so many variety unfortunately I showed up in the late afternoon and everything was mostly sold out! They apparently sell out early by 10:00 so you know it's good! I got custard buns, red bean, & egg tarts! The custard bun was nice and subtle, everything has the perfect amount of sweetness. The prices ranges from 2.50-3.50+ I can't wait to come early to see what other options they have. There's no Asian bakery in the town so it's great that they have this option! read more

I never write reviews but I will for this place. Emma Bakes is definitely not what you expect to find in the middle of Nebraska but boy are the people of Lincoln lucky to have access to such a fantastic Asian bakery. First of all, you can tell from the ambiance, decor, and Emma herself that she is heartfelt and loves her craft. It shows in her pastries and everything in the little store. Furthermore, the baked goods itself are outstanding. I never expected to have arguably the best egg tart of my life in Lincoln Nebraska but that is exactly what Emma has achieved. Everything else is of excellent quality and everytime I've gone, my only complaint is that I wish I could buy out the whole store. If you do plan on patronizing Emma's amazing store, make sure you go earlier during the day. The store sells out fast and early so you'll need to get there sometime before 11ish to be able to pick from her full selection of items. GO THERE. Your mouth will thank you later. read more

This was a lovely surprise to happen upon today! I was planning on going to a business next door for the first time and got sidetracked when I noticed this cute tiny bakery around the side of the building. The offerings are all beautiful, very reasonably priced too, and what I've tried of the ridiculous amount I brought home has been just incredible. So excited to have another bakery option with more interesting international offerings in town! read more

Emma bakes it's just the sort of bakery I've been looking for. It is a type of Asian/French/Korean. A lot like Tous les Jours franchise that has a store in Kansas City and soon to be one in Lawrence Kansas. I just love the taro bun and the garlic bread was to die for. Also, husband and I love the egg tarts. Asian style bakeries are much more subtle in flavor and buns are so moist. read more

The strawberry and custard croissants were amazing! She also had Passion fruit macarons and they were heavenly!

I knew of this bakery and finally was able to visit. My husband and I were greeted by Emma, who is so sweet. The bakery was clean and decorated very well. I selected paper pork with mango. I had never eaten anything like this and I loved it. We also purchased a bag of cookies, and 2 pastries. One had custard and one with fruit. They were so good. Thanks, Emma for the great customer service and wonderful food. We will return for more in the future. read more

Absolutely delicious. We got 2 savory breads and 2 sweet breads and we were very happy with all of them. They do sell out pretty early so don't go too late or variety will be limited. This place a must-go if you are in Lincoln during the morning. read more

Emma Bakes... well she certainly does! I came across this place on Google maps whilst idly seeing what's around in Lincoln. Went in today about 11:00 and met Emma (I'm deeply in love since biting into one of her rich, crumbly croissants!) Her buns with pork floss were a surprise (sweet and savoury! - Yum) and I didn't even mind her cruelty to cats (Cat tongue cookies). A definite on my list of places to get fresh baked goods so you can stay away! But seriously, this wonderful baker needs our support (and your stomach, if not your waistline will thank you). read more
