Three, old guys on the hunt for a good donut. When one noticed the name "Hurts Donut" he determined that would be our destination. He laughed hard when he first saw the name and was curious why we other two weren't enjoying the joke. I had never had the "Hurts Donut" trick pulled on me nor had our third buddy. Now I know about it and I didn't have to suffer the sick joke as a kid. Oh, about the donut shop... Good luck finding it. Siri got us to the exact location but there is no sign out front a large building that houses several businesses. The scout we sent to make sure we were at the right place happened to notice a young lady outside this big building wearing a "Hurts Donut" shirt. He waved us in. We were unanimous in that, of the wide variety of donuts in the display, none looked appetizing to us. We cannot judge if the donuts taste good since we did not buy any. We did spot a huge apple fritter in the corner of the display and we bought that and shared it. This fritter was really good. I haven't had Hurts in a few years, and I hadnever been to their brick and mortar. WHOA this place is awesome! Not only is open 24 hr (25/8 to them) the donuts are STILL fresh at 6pm and there is a variety still available. I got 4 donuts for $8, that's AMAZING (you can't get that at Hyvee) The flavors are soooo that of an old school donut shop, and taste SO much better than grocery store donuts. Hurts donut is one of the best late night dessert spots in the haymarket/downtown area. I will say if you're going to eat a full donut and milkshake, try not to do it on an empty stomach because it is a loooot of sugar. The donuts hold up well over time - I usually eat them over a few sittings at this point or split them with others. All the flavors have been super tasty, but I tend to be a maple glazed person. My husband was so excited to see a location here, he had them in OKC and loved them. These were not great, to put it lightly. They tasted like they were a day old, pretty stale. I got the Nutella donut, which also had cinnamon on it and the actual chocolate was definitely not made with any Nutella. I would not come here, you'll be disappointed. read more

Got three donuts. The first glazed yeast braid was hard and I took one bite and tossed it. Old and stale! The chocolate long John wasn't as hard but still wasn't soft and the chocolate tasted a bit funky almost like hot cocoa. The last donut was a vanilla caramel glazed cake donut called Jesus. It was soft on the inside and flavorful and not overly sweet either. The three donuts were sort of all across the board in terms of quality on a Wednesday at 10am. This place has completely fallen apart! I visited tonight, and there were hardly any doughnuts. This isn't the first time this has happened. The music was so loud that I couldn't even hear the cashier. I bit into one doughnut when I got home, but it was hard and stale. To make matters worse, I found a hair in the birthday cake doughnut. I called them, left a message, and haven't heard back. The phone is always dead at this place. Save your money and go to a gas station for doughnuts. We had a location in Katy Texas but it closed. I visit this location every chance I go to Nebraska. The donuts are always fresh and so delicious. The employees are extremely polite. The location is in a tough stop however the atmosphere, service and food make up for it. I recommend you stopping by and grabbing a donut. My favorite is the Cookie Monster. read more

We were looking forward to experiencing Hurts Donuts this morning while in Lincoln for a college visit and boy were we disappointed! We arrived at 9:00am to a very very dirty business with only fancy cake donuts available. No raised donuts, no kolaches, no long johns, no cinnamon rolls...all things on the menu board. The only drink options were fountain sodas or a reach in cooler. Seriously- a sign that said No Coffee with a written on a little whiteboard. There were 2 dirty tables available with crumbs and stuff stuck to the surfaces and the floor was disgusting- covered with crumbs and dirt especially in the corners, around the edges and under the tables. The young lady at the counter wasn't helpful at all either and was on her phone when we came to the counter yet while we were there her Mom and a "regular" came in and she was a different person for them. As for value, we purchased 6 of the fancy cake donuts (since that's all they had available) and our total was $16. We will hard-pass on Hurts Donuts next time we're in Lincoln. I'd recommend The Mill, if you're in the Haymarket and looking for coffee and a roll. read more

I've had hurts donuts before a few times and it was a cool experience those time which were late at night 1030pm or later to get a shake as most people go there for. I happen to have my nephews in town staying the night and I pitched the idea of a cool place that turns your donuts into shakes and of course like any 10-12 year olds would they jumped up and were ready to go! We drove 30 minutes to the "24 hour" location where we were refused service even when my 3 young nephews and I were the only ones in line and no one waiting. We asked for the menu listed donut shakes and all the stuff grunted before saying "they refused to make them because they had been busy earlier in the night." It was only 1030pm at a 24 hour store.... at what point do you start serving your advertised menu? I asked since we were the only ones there and it wasnt busy if they could and still they said they wouldn't. Although I was incredibly annoyed they put my donuts all on top of each other in a bag with no paper between so the flavors intermixed and they got smashed together... they should put these in boxes unless you get 1 donut only.Apparently they are open 25/8 ... yes I said that correctly. Their donuts are beautiful. It's incredibly difficult to choose what you want and I can definitely see it being an expensive affair. I gave her full reign with picking out my 1/2 dozen as this is how the menu communicates that the "Hurts a Little" goes. So many positives. The yeast is moist, cooked perfectly, flavorful. The accompaniment adds to the enjoyment. I keep shaking my head and humming it up. Very good. The size of the donut is a beautiful thing. Not too little, not too much, just right. The rest of the clerk chosen 1/2 is of an Old Fashioned, chocolate iced Red Velvet, a Sea Salt Carmel Yeast with chocolate ice and Carmel drizzle, a glazed with strawberry crumbly and a sugar yeast with ganache. All of them...... I'd like to try a cake donut. I'll be back the following day. The biggest apple fritter ever. I'll take this home for the family. Yes, that's right, the family. This place is really bad. To kick off our experience, we had the girl behind the counter being rude and impatient. We were the only customers, and this was our first time visiting (and last). We were attempting to decide on what to get, and every question was met with a loud sigh & an eye roll. She was bothered, and was going to great lengths to let it be known. Everything looked good, but they are not selling fresh doughnuts here. Those were not made in the last three days, maybe not even in the last 10 days on some of these. I couldn't believe they are charging premium prices for that stale crap. One was hard as a rock. Couldn't even bite all the way through. Makes me sick to think about. Between the extremely difficult time in locating them (no signage), the young buck behind the counter who made it abundantly evident he did not want to be there, the dry donuts and do I dare say no flavor? We got the Little Dirty to try 6 different ones; snagged the Cotton Candy, Twix, Strawberry Cheesecake, German Chocolate Cake, some peanut butter icing one, and I can't even think of the 6th one. The young buck had his ear buds in the entire tome, and when spoken to, his gaze was up and over our heads. Not at all interested, in assisting customers. He even had the nerve to try and pick which tip he was getting. You pick donuts... you were not interested in customer service... you don't get a tip, sir. I was in Lincoln in business and my partner travelled with me. We were looking for a late night snack and found this place up the street from our hotel. It is in the lower floor of the old courthouse and nit doesn't jump out at you. They have a a wide selection of interesting flavors but as soon as I saw the Maple Bacon donut I knew what I was having and it was so worth it. It is, hands-down, the best Maple Bacon yet, including Voodoo Donuts. They don't just put a chewy slice of bacon across the top, they layer a pile of crunchy bacon bits across the top of a perfect maple icing. Yum!!! We have been back every night for one and tonight I told my other half to get his own as I'm not sharing mine any more just so he can try a different flavor and no, you can't have "just one bite." Full disclosure, we also tried the Streusel (both the plain and the Cherry Struesel) and it was delicious, I mean, who doesn't love a streusel? I had a chocolate frosted with sprinkles which was good enough but nothing to write home about, and the red velvet which was also a nice treat. Definitely worth trying if you like experimenting with cool new flavors (and fun names) give them a try. But, the Maple Bacon... it's life changing! read more
