Each year our "Microwave Society" appears to be screaming for more of the same: Bigger, better, faster, stronger. Taste, quality, freshness, consistency, These all seem to take a back seat to the aforementioned. Tip for success? Throw some sauce on cheese bread and zap it in the oven for a quick 30, have it hot and ready for me in that famous brown box and you've got yourself a deal for most Americans. Most Americans that is. For the rest of us, however, there's a few gems out there. Hungry Howies is one of those gems. I can honestly say that I cannot remember having pizza that tasted this good. I have tried four items on the menu and each has been delicious. I won't mention the price, if you're worried about the cost then there's a little caesars down the street. If you work hard and value your health and taste buds like myself, then I highly recommend Uncle Howie's. Take it from a guy who doesn't take the time to write reviews for almost anything. Ordered Deep Dish The Works w/Butter Cheese Crust. AND......O.M.G.! was it amazing! Had it for dinner last night and lunch today! Still tastes the same warmed up! I was surprised to see one of these outside of Michigan! The location is great for somebody looking for food out near tehachapi. The interior was clean, basic fast food style but I don't think there is a public bathroom. The staff was friendly. The good was good but it is heavier pizza-esque food style so a lot won't help your heart a lot. read more

The quality here has gone down in recent years, the staff is for the most part friendly and doing the best they can. it seems like they never have many people working at once, even on the weekends. The environment is good, except sometimes the music playing from the back is vulgar. I went to a party in a park, and the hosts had ordered pepperoni and several other types of pizza from Hungry Howies. I can't remember the price, but it was really really reasonable or good size, it seems like maybe medium sizes, and although it was a little greasy it was really really good. Very basic pizza, not much to write home about. A medium pizza with pepperoni, green pepper, and mushrooms was $21 with delivery no more than 6 blocks away. We found Hungry Howies when we were staying at the Fairfield Suites. We read other reviews comments and decided to get pizza from here. Oh my gosh it was delicious. We got a medium meat pizza and a baked chic chip cookie. Service was quick and pizza and cookie were delicious. First... when I called in our order the young man that took my order took the time to explain what their pizza was all about without being condescending...he was knowledgeable and service oriented. Second...the pizza although not the greatest I've ever tasted was still delicious. Hot enough to burn your face off with the first bite...great blend of cheese and greasy...just the way we like...apparently they have this thing where they flavor your crust, it sounded weird to me then I tried it and I was hooked and all we got was the butter and cheese.... Third and most important....their Howie bread with the cinnamon and sugar was completely addicting...I almost wanted to just eat that by itself... I hope you know what you're getting into: cheap pizza with delicious flavored crust. Expecting anything else is setting yourself up for disappointment. I can't recommend the Cajun crust enough -- it makes it all worthwhile. Howies is cheaper *and* tastes more like "small-town pizza" than PizzaHut, Dominoes, or Papa Johns, all of which have a fake, mega-corp taste and texture. If you hate pizza from the big three chains like I do, try Howies. If you like Little Caesars, well...that's really weird and a little disturbing. Howies is nothing like Little Caesars, thank god. I had not eaten at a Hungry Howie's in I don't know how long. I used to live near a Las Vegas location but that was a long time ago. So when my family in Tehachapi mentioned this brand, I jumped at the opportunity to hit it up for a pizza the night before Easter Sunday. My family had been ordering a large 2-topping pizza which had been on special for $10.99. That special is no longer offered. What we ended up ordering was a large 1-topping and garlic bread for $15. Not a terrible deal. There is only one table in this location and we felt uncomfortable eating there but it was windy outside and taking the pizza home would leave it cold as my family doesn't live in Tehachapi propper. So we asked the staff if we could bring our waters in from the car and eat there. We were told we could. The staff behind the counter were very polite and accomodating. Our pizza, pepperoni with garlic crust, was good. Not my favorite pizza but it hit the spot. My only real complaint is that the crust was too thick and fluffy. I am more of a thin and crispy crust kind of guy. But the flavor was on-point. The garlic bread is where it was at though. Super hot, fluffy and soft as could be (perfect for bread), drenched in butter and a ton of garlic flavor. It didn't need the cup of pizza sauce for dipping but the sauce was a nice addition anyhow. This Hungry Howie's is where my family goes for pizza in Tehachapi. I don't mind going there again next time I visit. I'm always down for pizza and Hungry Howie's makes a good one. read more

Lots of choices how you want the type of pizza, we really like their deep dish thick crust, what flavor you want the crust, what type of sauce and all the different toppings. We don't eat meat so we order the veggie, it's excellent. They don't skimp, they give you lots of each ingredient and if you want even more just order xtra of that item. Their customer service is terrible. I ordered online and came into pick up. When we walked in literally everyone in the store looked at us, but ignored us and continued chit chatting. Eventually someone comes up and does not say a word to me, I have to tell him I'm there for a pick up and what my name is. He shoves a receipt across the counter for me to sign and before I finish signing I'm looking up at three boxes two inches from my face. We ordered from here the other night. We bought 3 specialty pizzas (which we never see a deal for), this made it a costly purchase. My wife forgot to order a cheese pizza for the youngest one. When she called back, right after the driver left and she noticed, she was told that dollar amount was not enough for delivery. Keep in mind we just spent $70 dollars. We ordered 2 pizzas..., when our pizza arrived we noticed there was no cheese in the middle and had a terrible experience when contacting the manager who argued instead of offering to make it right. When I brought the pizza in the manager was beyond rude and gave me a "This pizza is acceptable. The cheese must have shifted during delivery". At this point I didn't want a remake just a refund of that half of my order to which she replied I can do 10$ after I had paid 30$+ not including delivery and tip.
