I like this location for the big windows and the coffee itself and that is mostly it. The staff seems to always be either indifferent or a little bit annoyed by my presence when ordering, so I don't necessarily feel a welcoming environment here, but the coffee is good enough, and so many coffee shops these days are packed to the brim, so I take what I can get. I wish there were more outlets available. I do kind like the big table against the wall, maybe it encourages people to talk to each other, although it didn't me, haha. read more

This is a cozy feeling brooklyn coffee shop. I went at a time where it was not busy at all which was great. They have some seating indoors. I got an iced decaf latte it was tasty. I give it four stars though because the barista that day Didn't seem too welcoming to me. Maybe just was an off day for them. But if I am ever in the area again and want a pick me up I would come back here. read more

Hungry Ghost - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Hungry Ghost is a chain that's spread throughout NYC and they use Stumptown for their beans. For the coffee enthusiast who wants to find a unique, hip coffee roaster, this is not your destination. They offer a standard menu which you can find at any other coffee house. Ample seating throughout the space, but it can fill up fast over the weekend mornings. read more

The Flatbush Avenue place is friendly enough and the coffee is fine. However, unlike the other hungry ghosts, this place is VERY LIMITED on its food. The one on fifth Avenue near 4th street is by far my favorite one. Never an issue about seating and always well stocked with a full variety of pastries and other stuff. The one in Garfield place is also quite good, but it is extremely busy nearly all the time. Once the weather warms up, I will happily walk down to the fifth Avenue location instead of the Flatbush one. read more

I went to Hungry Ghost with a friend as a starting point for a walk. Full disclaimer, I don't drink coffee, but as someone who feels hopelessly in the minority of adults I am occasionally open to a coffee shop meet where I know the only viable option for me will likely be hot cocoa. Well, I ordered one and honestly, it tasted kind of like any coffee shop hot cocoa I've had, kind of bitter (like dark chocolatey? I don't like dark chocolate at all) and not smooth enough. Like the problem could be too little cocoa or too little sugar. Either way, for me it was nothing special, but if you're a coffee lover, obvious your mileage has a lot more potential for variation. PS- When are coffee places gonna start keeping lactose free milk on hand? No love for us! read more

I stumbled across the Hungry Ghost while I was on my way to having a nice brunch a few doors down. This up and coming area of Park Slope / Flatbush (I say that as Doughnut Plant gets ready to open up next door, and Shake Shack just opened up down the road) just keeps getting better and better. As you walk into the Hungry Ghost, the first thing you'll notice is the relaxed atmosphere that just seems to come together in a very Brooklyn way. The staff were super friendly, and they've got a full pastry case with sweets including doughnuts from Dough, which also has its own shop just down the street. I asked about their Mocha (uses a chocolate syrup per the barista) and their Chai (which is a Chai concentrate per the barista). Not expecting anything spectacular, I asked which one they preferred, and we ended up flipping a coin lol. I ended up ordering my usual, which is the Chai with Soy and a shot of espresso (Dirty Chai), and it was just perfect to the last drop. I came back after brunch after those sweets in the case were just tantalizing and taunting me. They make most of their sweets in house, and the chocolate chip cookie is just to die for. You can be assured whenever I'm in Flatbush I will be making this a regular stop. They also have a menu full of light bites like sandwiches and such that are also made in-house that I didn't have an opportunity to try. Hopefully I will soon. read more

I was a dreary, decaffeinated ghost until I came here to return to the land of the living as a happy human. You can hear the spooky voice, saying "reeeeeallaaax" through the walls. (Not really, Hungry Ghost usually plays mellow R&B, chill pop, or sweet 00's hip hop - where are you now my dear Ne-Yo?) ~Whole milk cortado is thick and flavorful ~Iced coffee is delicious ~Iced Matcha Latte, if you like matte, is yummy and grassy ~Salted Peanut Butter is the perfect amount of soft and crumbly and potently peanut buttery *A highlight* Baristas have always been kind! Bring your laptop weekdays 11am-4pm but otherwise, expect to not find a spot with your machine, and enjoy the ambiance - live edge cedar tables, dark wood, light walls, filament bulbs and exposed brick as you listen to 2011 Adele. Great coffee (using Stumptown beans) and I love how they offer oat milk here in addition to whole, almond, and soy. On two occasions, I asked for a chocolate croissant and received a plain croissant--didn't realize it until that night when I opened the bag to eat it. When I went back the next day to inform the clerk, I was asked why I waited until the next day to return (I even brought the uneaten croissant as proof that I wasn't trying to scam them). The shop was closed when I realized I received the wrong item. For the amount of money and tips I spend, this simply isn't worth it. read more

There are two amazingly comfortable seats by the window; gorgeous in the late-afternoon sunlight, they seem as though they'd be ideal for an intimate conversation or for a lazy afternoon of reading and caffeinated beverages. Unfortunately, there are only two of them. If you are lucky enough to happen by when they are vacant, or ruthless enough to elbow a middle-aged woman in the throat when she makes a move toward the seat you were clearly waiting for, you MIGHT be able to sit down. But even then, there's a 37% chance that there will be screaming children running around the otherwise pristine coffeeshop. The 6 or 7 staff members do not concern themselves with such matters, nor do they care if you're standing there waiting to order...at least not enough to tell you to go order at the next gap in the display case. Overall, I really do like the Hungry Ghost. It's open and airy, they have a nice selection of teas, and their pumpkin cookies aren't half bad. However, for all the spaciousness, there always seems to be a dearth of good seating (and service), and the disparity between the two window seats and the rest of the shop is shocking. I am the 99%, and I just want to sit and drink my tea. read more

We don't take it in, we just change locations. After multiple weekends of struggling finding a quiet cafe in the city to do work, I've settled with Brooklyn. Which led me to Hungry Ghost. And I still struggled to find a seat to do work. Really cute spot to grab a coffee, though I think they're trying to shun away technology obsessed millennials like me. Theres two sunshinning tables on each side, but a clear sign that says "no laptop usage" Then there's a long table, that also says "no laptop usage" Here's the thing about us millennials, we don't give up. I ordered my tomato mozzarella pesto sandwich, and grabbed a sunshinning seat and landed my laptop onto my lap. Us millennials are also innovative. Sandwich was delicious!! I tried to cover my happily satisfying face with every bite. It was a struggle eating my sandwich with my laptop on my lap, but well worth it. Here's the breakdown: great place to grab coffee and a small bite. There are no outlets and limited laptop seats. But they do have wifi. read more

Coffee was delicious. Best in the area I have had so far. Tried two sandwiches: The chicken with fontina and arugula was good...but a bit dry. The turkey with cheddar and spinach was mouth watering. Hungry Ghost - chicken salad with fontina and arugula...turkey cheese and spinach at back was amazing - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

One of my favorite coffee shops that's walking distance from where I live. I believe Hungry Ghost started in Fort Greene, but is now with multiple locations throughout Brooklyn. There are three Hungry Ghost locations somewhat close to me, but this is my favorite. First of all this place has wifi, which the ones on Sterling and Fulton do not. Secondly, it's more conducive to working as It's also one of the larger ones. There's a large 'bar' area along the wall in case you want to work on your laptop. Coat hooks under the counter are convenient as well during winter time. There are tables closer to the entrance if you want to read or have conversation, but these are specifically 'no laptop' zones. As with all the Hungry Ghosts, they make a great cup of coffee. They brew Stumptown here, and all the baristas are great and super friendly. Never been disappointed with a drink. Flat white has been consistent regardless of who's working. In my opinion, the baristas here make better espresso based drinks compared to Gorilla across the street. They also serve Dough donuts, although you pay about a 25c-50c premium compared to buying them from Dough itself. They accept CC from Square with no minimum, which is convenient on those days I'm not carrying cash. Great neighborhood coffee shop that's become a regular hangout for me. read more

Nice, big open space on Flatbush. We came after dinner nearby and just wanted to relax for a bit. If you're lucky, you can grab the two sofa looking seats near the door. There is no laptop allowed there, just enough space for two people to sit, sip coffee, and enjoy life. Their coffee is tasty and baked goods are yummy. Big selection of cold brew, kombucha, cold brew nitro, and the usual espresso selections. WiFi is free, staff is friendly and laid back. Everyone keeps to themselves, this is just a nice place to relax and hide from craziness of life. read more

Hungry Ghost - Hot cocoa! - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Eh. I find the angry hipster baristas and the lack of seating here a little too much to handle on what was supposed to be a nice afternoon. A few weird things to note: -It gets CROWDED. Not just like there are a few extra people around. Like crowded to the point where strangers will put their babies on your lap at your table if there aren't any seats left. Wait, I didn't sign up to babysit? -None of the staff members were friendly. I ordered a (very overpriced) panini and when it was done a bearded dude yells, "WHO HAS THE ARUGULA PANINI?!?! COME GET IT" Ahhh, it's mine! Sorry! Sidenote, the sandwich was only okay. -There's a whole "no laptop at certain tables" dealio going on. Probably to deal with the overcrowding. Aka: Not a good place to get any work done. read more

I have been going to Hungry Ghost since it opened 4-5 years ago-I work in the area so I'm usually in and out, although sometimes I will sit at the main table and chat with a colleague. I'm glad the Ghost has the wifi policy that they have, cause if they didn't, I would probably never get a seat due to all the people with their laptops that think a local coffee shop is their office. There are a lot of reviewers here, that seem to be complaining about the staff and their wifi policy. This is a coffee shop. With good coffee, and seats, to socialize. It's not your office that you don't pay rent -I'm glad the manager has the backbone to enforce the shop's policy. Go to Starbucks if you want to sit all day in a coffee shop. And on that note, the staff is really friendly, not nasty. To recap, really good (Stumptown) coffee, pleasant staff, cute shop, good environment. Quit the hating-get a data plan. read more

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou have more baked goods and espresso... Oh, I did love this place ever so much! I was looking for a coffee shop near Target to hang out in before picking up some items, and this place looked promising. However, I frequently get my hopes up too high and am let down. The Hungry Ghost was the exception to this trend! As soon as I saw the facade of the building, I knew it would deliver. It looked so sharp and clean. Sure enough, the inside was equally aesthetically pleasing. It had the typical coffee-shop-hipster thing going on, but without the dirtiness. The other great part was the vegan baked goods. I had already eaten lunch a few hours earlier, so I ordered a soy latte and a vegan cranberry scone. It was delicious! It was a genuine scone, not a sugar-bomb monstrosity like some places sell. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would return in a heartbeat, except for the fact that Brooklyn is SUCH a trek away! read more

I usually go for the cheapest coffee, from a bagel cart or deli - partially due to convenience and partially because it annoys me to pay so much extra for haut café. But a few times I have ended up in Hungry Ghost, because I'm running late or forgot to get coffee closer to home, and each time I am surprised anew: Oh! This stuff really is better! Yes, it costs almost exactly twice as much as coffee from the bagel cart. But it's coffee that's actually worth drinking and experiencing. I would downgrade them for the price, but the truth is they are charging a fair price for a superior product. If I compare their pricing to their true peers, they suddenly look very reasonable - maybe even a bargain. So I won't complain that the Lexus costs more than the Hyundai. Compared to the BMW, it looks pretty good. read more

Stopped by here on a casual day after shopping at Target and other shops near by Barclays Center. We were attracted by their name and were eager to find out how hungry the ghost would be like. We explored their menu and finally ordered a turkey panini (sandwich), a green salad, one hot latte and one cappuccino. Appropriate portion of food for two girls who don't eat a lot. I love their coffee art! Their turkey sandwiches are rich with addition of cheese but tasty. I like their open space which reminds me of local Starbucks, where you order a drink and sit down for reading, talking or casual hang out. I love this idea and wish there will be more restaurants like this opening in Brooklyn areas. Warm and relaxing atmosphere, efficient Wi-Fi access, friendly staff, good food, and fair price. I really enjoyed this visit. I will never get tired of this type of ambiance. read more

Their 12oz is $3.25 so it was worth it to spring for the bigger cup. It tasted crisp, fresh, sweet and definitely homemade. The ambiance here is cute. Very "cool" park slope vibe. Came here after I found out they served kombucha via kombucha Brooklyn's Instagram account and I was not disappointed. Got a 16 oz kombucha ($4.75). They had one "flavor" on tap. It was a perfect cup. Great flavor. Not too carbonated like the bottles of kombucha I'm used to. Also got a12 oz Stumptowns cold brew nitro coffee ($4.50). I've never had cold brew coffee on a nitro tap before and this was delicious! It was so smooth and flavorful that I drank it black!
