I give this place a solid 3.5 stars. For ME, Mediterranean restaurants are often a hit or miss. I find that some have dishes that are well seasoned and full of flavor, and others have the flavor and no, I'll just say appeal. I'm not going to explain that, but those that get it, get it. Hummus Labs was in between. Now, don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but I feel like the favors can be enhanced just a little bit more. The portions are huge, a great value for your dollar. The lady the took my order very nice, and a pleasure to speak with. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is a typical storefront, with minimal seating, but enough space for an in and out crowd.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Do not be dismayed. Hummus Labs is worth a visit.
The hype is very much real and true. As a matter of fact, I did not know what to expect for their Beef Shawarma Nachos. But the beef was thickly cut, juicy and tender. It fit perfectly with the crunchy pita chips underneath. I also ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate to share and it was super filling. Hummus Labs is a casual lunch spot that does an excellent job in cooking their meats and seasoning it perfectly. There's plenty of parking in the back lot as well as street parking. I'll definitely be back!
Come support this Pasadena gem. You can get a chicken lunch plate forIt's comes up side. But when I went, I got the beef Shawarma plate with hummus and cauliflower. The cauliflower is crispy on the top and cooked just right. Joseph Jean, the owner is so sweet and nice and his staff are nice as well. Come support this as they would need the community support as due to the fire and many people have to community so if you're in Pasadena area or in the SGV area, be sure to stop by and support.
I've always come to Hummus Lab for their lunch special, and it has always been good. This time, I went with my friend and we tried the Ultimate Combo. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat inside the restaurant, which is relatively small and has only a few tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We both enjoyed the filet mignon kabob and the salad. The red beet dill hummus was mostly enjoyed by me with the pita bread. The chicken mini shawarma nachos weren't really our thing and were pretty much untouched. Although we enjoyed the combo, I would say the lunch special with the chicken kabob is a much better value. I probably wouldn't order this combo again.
I will be coming back for this meal so much. I have been meaning to come and try this place for a while and it didn't disappoint. The hummus is absolutely incredible and the chicken, rice, and pita are all great. Lovely deal with large portions!
Today was actually my first time dining at hummus labs even though I've gotten catering from them a couple of times for some of my parties! (The catering is amazing btw - highly recommend! They give so much of the salad, pita and hummus! We always have leftovers for the rest of the week) I got the chicken schwarma and the chicken is perfectly tender! I also chose the cumin lime hummus and garlic paste, the cumin lime hummus didn't taste that much different from the regular hummus in my opinion, but it was delicious! The garlic paste is my absolute favorite, I love how much they give and hate how how much goes to waste when I'm done eating. It's almost criminal to throw it away and I wanna savor it all.. Highly recommend and can't wait to have you guys cater again in the future!
We came in right before closing on a Wednesday and had their mixed grill platter with Kafta, Chicken and Filet Mignon, everything was so good and people there were really nice even though we put our order in right before their closing time. Their classic hummus and garlic paste were both really good, will have to go back to try other hummus flavors!! Garlic paste had a little kick, my husband and I both don't do well with spicy food but it was a perfect amount of spice and didn't linger in our mouths, we actually enjoyed it and our 4 year old picky eater loved everything she tasted as well.!
Awesome kabob place in Pasadena! Came here on a weekday for dinner (takeout) and ordered the beef shawarma platter with half rice and half salad. For sides, I got cumin lime hummus and classic hummus. The name definitely lived up to its standards - the hummus was amazing! Thick and creamy! The portion is big as well and the beef was marinated to perfection! Staff was super friendly! Highly recommend! [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are also a few seats inside for dine in![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
WOW! When I say this was delicious, I mean it. I never had this place before but for teacher/staff appreciation week our PTA got us this and wow so yummy!! PTA ordered: Chicken Kabob Filet Mignon Kabob Fattoush Salad Rice Hummus Cilantro Jalapeño Hummus Tzatziki Pita Chips Pita Bread Cauliflower This meal was incredibly delicious and I plan to come eat here and order takeout because of how delicious the food was. My favorite was the rice and cauliflower, i'm not the biggest fan of cauliflower, but this place made them taste incredible! Highly recommend especially if catering!!
I've been working in Pasadena for a couple of years now, and honestly, most of the lunch spots have started to feel a little played out. So when I drove past Hummus Labs and saw they had a lunch special, I decided to check it out. I tried the chicken kabob plate, which comes with your choice of white or dark meat, I went with dark. The chicken was served in big, juicy chunks and was super moist. The rice it came with was flavorful and fluffy. The plate also included a small salad, some classic hummus, and pita bread. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself is pretty small, so I'd recommend calling in your order if you're trying to grab lunch during the rush.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, the meal was tasty, felt healthy, and was just the kind of simple lunch I needed. They also tons of other items that I want to try like shawarma nachos ?! I'm definitely going to start adding this to my lunch rotation.
went and tried their all day lunch specials - there's a choice of chicken kebab or cauliflower and it comes with rice, hummus, salad and pita for $12, we got one of each- the cauliflower was more flavorful, the order was ready within 15-20 min and service was really great. will be back to try their other items!
BF and his family know if I recommend a Mediterranean place, it's like the highest praise from me because I'm not the biggest fan of this type of cuisine. So when I tried the nachos at Hummus Labs, I knew I had tasted something golden. So backing up, Donna S. and I met up for a weekday dinner at Hummus Labs. They close at 7 pm on weeknights, so we got here around 5 pm to have enough time to order and enjoy our meal on-site. Decent amount of seating inside and you can move tables around if you have large groups. There was so much good options on the menu that we decided to split one of the shared platters -- the Ultimate Combo ($34.95), which comes with a chicken kabob skewer, filet mignon kabob skewer, mini shawarma nachos, salad, and choice of hummus. The menu says this feeds 2 people and it certainly did! We picked the roasted tomato habanero hummus. We had initially ordered a side of falafel too, but that order didn't get put in. It worked out in the end because we still had food leftover from our ultimate combo. Everything was super delicious. If you're unsure of what to try and you have a small group, the ultimate combo is the way to go. While both kabobs were delicious, the shawarma nachos were something else! It's the crisp pita chips that make the nachos so good, though the chicken and hummus and seasonings wrap it all nicely together. Donna S. and I both placed a separate order of the full sized chicken shawarma nachos ($15.95) to enjoy at home later. The lady taking our order was very helpful with my questions on what to order and the differences between certain options and dishes. It was her suggestion to try the combo platter when I was struggling to decide amongst the nachos, the individual kabob platter, the individual shawarma platter, or the wraps. Also appreciate her helpful tips when picking the hummus for our platter. I didn't realize there's a free parking lot that you'd enter off Mentor Ave, so I ended up parking on the streets. I usually don't see free parking for many Pasadena businesses so this is a nice bonus! All in all, a successful yummy dinner done at Hummus Labs.
This place is super yummy! Had some great wins and a few not great but ok. Lamb chops good Rice Salad not so ok Chicken kabobs would of been better if it was white meat instead of dark and I love dark meat Beet hummus was ok Original hummus yum! Habanero had a kick and was delicious Cumin and lime hummus was eh The salad was a little too tangy for me but the pita croutons were a hit! Prices are reasonable in our inflation time Will be back

I've heard a lot about this place online in an fb group and decided to try it when I was in the neighborhood. It's located in a corner building that has free parking on the second floor. Plus some free street parking, too. I was welcomed by the woman at the counter who helped explain any menu questions I had and helped me apply for their reward program that also gives you credit upon joining. She was so patient and helpful. The owner, Joseph Jean, was on his way out and did thank me for coming in. The food is cooked after ordering, so there is a wait. I like that they have choices for their sides and I loved the red beet dill hummus. I still want to try the others but I would consider getting an extra side of this for just me. I have always been a huge fan of hummus labs after trying it once and seeing it on facebook. I visited the store and ordered their famous and popular beef shawarma nachos with classic hummus. The chips were still (mostly) crispy by the time I went home (but thats on me for deciding to take it to go). Towards the end of the meal, I noticed something that I was unable to bite down -- plastic. Despite the plastic, I thought it was still delicious and loaded with tomatoes, meat and hummus. read more
The hubby and I stumbled upon Hummus Labs while hanging out in Pasadena on a Friday afternoon. It's a casual spot where you walk up to order and can get a variety of salads, platters, or wraps. My husband ordered the chicken shawarma wrap which actually came with two individual wraps. The pita was thin and not too heavy and was filled with tender chicken, hummus, lettuce, tomatoes and garlic sauce. He had fries on the side which were crisp, very well seasoned and so yummy dipped in the side of garlic sauce we ordered. I wasn't super hungry and just wanted a little bit of hummus with pita. What I was served was a large serving of hummus and an entire packet of pita. I ended up taking the rest home but ate a fair amount of it while I was there. The hummus was smooth, had a nice flavor of lemon, garlic and was so soft. They have a wide variety of zero calorie sodas which I appreciated. I've been coming here for awhile but first time to review here. This is prob one of my fave Mediterranean spots to go to. There's usually parking available which is convenient for pickup. The only knock I would say is that they're not open Sundays and wish their hours were just a bit later. Other than that, everything I've had here is delicious. We've had their shawarma, kebobs, and even the salmon. All the meats are great and very tender. Their shawarma is a little more unique and stir fried with tomatoes and onions but still tastes good. I personally love their cauliflower and always get that as a side. It's got a great char and the flavoring they use has a good tang. Also can't miss is their shawarma nachos. The hummus is always super fresh. But the *star* is their pita chips. I don't know how they get such a great crisp and I love the seasoning. I can literally polish off an entire bag if I let myself. Great value for the portions and it always hits the spot. So glad I live nearby here as we prob order from here at least a few times a month. read more
Woah! An updated review has been long overdue! The holidays are always filled with a mix of home cooking and catering. We opted for Mediterranean food from Hummus Labs, and ordered for 10 people (their minimum) knowing that we were only 8 adults. Who doesn't love having a little extra for a late night snack or early morning leftovers? We absolutely loved their cauliflower, which sparks a LONG conversation its perfection in its entirety, leading down the rabbit hole of subsequent holiday get togethers. All the meat options were amazing, but let me say, the cauliflower? Chefs kiss. The garlic paste is a must, but all of their dips are always worth trying at least once. And such a great snack for all of the perfectly crispy pita chips. Whenever I bring leftovers back, best believe my family sneaks away handfuls of the pita chips. Alway get extra! Can't wait for the next visit to HL and their next chapter/expansion! :) read more
We saw Hummus lab accidentally while we were walking around in the area. We decided to try it. The place was very clean and neat. The lady who served us, was very nice and friendly We ordered the following; - beef kafta kabab plate with classic hummus and salad and rice. - Ultimate platter with classic hummus and Also, include 1 chicken skewers, 1 fillet mignon skewer, salad and Beef shawarma nachos. The shawarma nachos was delicious. It had the perfect spices, seared with tomato, and onion, comes with crispy pita chips, topped with garlic hummus & tahini - Baba Ghanoush - french fries The Ultimate platter had generous amount of juicy meat, salad and beef shawarma nachos The rice was not the best. The highlight was for the beef shawarma nachos. It was outstanding, although it was a side dish that came with the ultimate platter. You can choose different type of meat for the nachos which was nice too. For this time, we chose beef. For sure next time, I will have the large order of the beef shawarma nachos. I dislike going to Pasadena due to the lack of parking, but luckily, this restaurant (and a few others) has a shared parking lot on the side. Service is always friendly and welcoming, and food takes a decent amount of time to come out, so you know that it is freshly made. Most people order as take-out, but the restaurant does feature some tables inside as well as have a dining area outside. Please get the shawarma nachos, it is so so so good! Both chicken and beef are solid choices--very moist, tender, and well-spiced. I've tried all 5 hummus, but roasted tomato habanero and cumin lime are my favorites. Everything tie together perfectly with the crispy pita chips. The staff is always generous with the portion; one order can easily feed two people. read more
One of my favorite snacks when I get the munchies are baked pita chips with hummus. So when I saw the signature shawarma nachos dish here, I knew I had to stop by! Their version of fusion nachos consists of baked pita chips loaded with garlic hummus, tahini, pan seared tomatoes, grilled onions, and chicken shawarma. I loved how thick the housemade pita chips were, and the chicken shawarma was well seasoned and juicy. Best of all, everything paired together perfectly. As for the portions, well they're downright huge! I didn't realize just how generous the portions would be until the guy handed me the heaviest takeout bag I've ever received. Lol. All joking aside though, the fusion nachos could have fed 2-3 people. But since it was just me myself and I, I did my best to make a dent in them before storing away the rest. All in all, Hummus Labs was a win :) ******************* My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Average. The food here was amazing! I loved the cilantro jalapeño hummus as it's not something i typically see at Mediterranean food restaurants. The portion of this plate was huge for the price which was great for me! I enjoyed the food and will definitely be coming back again. The restaurant itself is small and a bit clustered and i wouldn't recommend dining if you have a party larger than 4 as they only have 2 tables that seat 4 people and 3 other tables that seat 2 people. I would prefer to get takeout next time but hey if you're nearby and wanna grab a bite with someone i say go for it! read more
We came in after the lunch hour so initially my of party of three were the only folks there. As we placed our orders at the counter, the lady working was very friendly. However, when I asked for a cup of water I was told that only bottled or canned drinks were available. I was very surprised as I have never been denied a free glass of water in a restaurant before. We each ended up buying a drink but no cups of ice came with our drinks. We ordered three separate platters. The chicken with rice, tomatoes, pita and hummus was tasty. In looking for a vegetarian platter option, the only two non meat items were deeply fried falafels or cauliflower. So two of us ordered the fried falafels and cauliflower . Owner might want to consider a platter containing a non fried option. As a side the baba ganoush was tasty although it was more like a purée. Food was served in disposable paper containers, served on an aluminum tray, with one little napkin each. We asked to use the bathroom and were told we could walk a block to the Rite Aid or go across the street to the hotel. No customers in the bathroom area as it may not be safe to walk, I will mention it was raining outside when we arrived. Bathrooms at a restaurant are a priority if there is indoor seating as is a glass of water with a meal. Food is tasty, however, not enough to over look the rest of the experience, With so many other restaurants in this area, can't say I would return. read more

Finally got a chance to try this place after seeing it so many times on SGV eats! Parking was a bit tricky? Don't park inside the structure unless you have a permit, but all visitors should park upstairs of the structure instead! It was a lot smaller of a restaurant than I thought. Although, it's good enough that's it's not too busy that there should be plenty of seating open? Or it seems like many people would just buy to go than eat inside. After looking at the menu, we decided to get the shawarma nachos and the beef platter with garlic paste and cilantro jalapeño hummus. Starting with the two meals, portions sizes are huge! Trying out the beef platter first, they offer two pita breads on top, which was really nice. The beef was a bit more tough than expected, but it was really nice having it with it all. I really liked the garlic paste because it was SUPER garlic. Although, the cilantro jalapeño hummus, I would've thought that would be spicy but it's not spicy at all. Next we have the shawarma nachos. These are the famous nachos I've seen all over sgv eats. The hummus and the chicken were all really good! The chips itself were very unique to me. They were extremely crunchy, but also delicate enough that it's easy to bite through? They're also very thick. Overall, I do like the chicken meat here better than the beef, so I would probably get that next time. It's nice to try the shawarma nachos once, but it does get overwhelming, unless you share it! 09/23/2023 Taking a short road trip for the day, we find this place in our searches as everyone in the car agreed for Mediterranean food. Street parking was a bit limited so we found a small parking lot in the back where we saw the driveway heading up. This is rooftop parking so you will have to walk down the stairs to get to this restaurant. We all were hoping there is a restroom but once you walk in, it's like your eyes zero in on the "no public restroom" sign above the kitchen door. We were directed to the business next door but that seems really irresponsible. I did have a thought of staying next door and should have told our group to get up and move. Figured I would give this place a chance. Looking at the menu up on the monitors, I did notice the number of hummus options available and a kiosk to place an order. The nice lady was waiting patiently at the register to take our orders. Before I get all fancy and try one of the varieties of hummus offered, I need to try just the regular hummus first. Beef kafta kabob platter and you choose two sides. I also wanted the garlic paste but that's a side and not a condiment, which means you pay for this one. I could keep the sides I've chosen and get the garlic paste for an additional $1.95 along with the platter at $14.95. What I decided on is the hummus and baba ghanoush which seems like both needed a little more seasoning. I also thought the same about the beef kafta kabob meat which were just big chunks of meat. I would suggest perfecting the regular hummus before trying to invent other hummus options especially calling yourself Hummus Labs. I had to grab a few fries from my neighbor's plate, I think they are sharing, turns out these are a little more crunchy. That just means well done fries at other establishments but some may argue that these are burnt or freezer fries. This experience just makes it feel like just a take out place with a few tables. We could have went home and grilled a steak with better seasoning but I wanted to stay with our group. I didn't think paying this much for a platter and had to sprinkle salt more than pepper to make everything taste better. I had to choose which sides so looking back now knowing it needs seasoning, I should have gone with just one side. I noticed there are a few people on social media recommending this place. When I just plainly said, "I didn't care for this place" hoping for a collaborative response. The owner jumped on me instead of asking "what was wrong' or "how could we improve to make your next visit better'. Nothing like that even happened which leaves an even worse impression. Workers don't look happy, that should have been the first indication to be concerned about. We could have driven another mile further for a real sit down restaurant with unlimited garlic paste minus the hassle. Not that I am popular or if anyone even reads my reviews on Yelp. Just know that I will not be recommending this place to save the next person from backlash from the owner. read more

Great place for delicious and good quality Mediterranean food. I think i could eat this several times a week and be very happy. The chicken kebab special was perfect in every way. I can't wait to try more from their menu. This plus is named after hummus and they have a delicious one! read more
I've only had takeout from here. There are a few booths in the restaurant but I don't think it's much of a sit in kind of place. We had emailed in our order and the process was pretty simple. Pick up was on time and efficient. There's a big parking lot in the back so it's convenient. Now for the food! I think the meats were fine, but the star of the show were definitely all of the dips. They were amazing! And the pita chips were so crunchy and they keep very well. Days later I was still eating pita chips with hummus and the different dips. Still really good. And the cauliflower! I would come back just for that cauliflower too. It's roasted perfectly. Loved it and would def come back. read more
I was really craving nachos and since I'm eating healthy during the week, I did not want to be disappointed. I was NOT disappointed. I actually saw this place recommended on Reddit for the best nachos in LA and being 6 minutes from my gf's place, it was an easy decision. We ordered the beef shawarma nachos and chicken kabob platter. For the platter, we opted for the salad base, while the two sides were the tzataziki and cilantro jalapeño hummus. The nachos were absolutely delicious. The pita chips that they use are insane. I really liked their classic and cilantro jalapeño hummus. All the while you are eating, you feel like you're eating pretty healthy. Nothing was heavy or overly greasy. Ordering is easy as you can easily order online without paying a surcharge for the third party companies. Will 100% be back. read more

I got the chicken kebab platter, which was good. Buttery rice, juicy chicken, and I like the selection of sides. I wish I'd gotten my husbands dish instead though! He got beef shawarma, though it came as more of a curry than the drier shaved beef I was expecting? Whatever it was, it was so delicious and quite a generous helping, we had leftovers even with me helping myself to his dish. I'd def recommend getting that! Works well for a quick lunch. There is a lot with parking for the complex, but I think there is a fee. Would recommend street parking instead. read more

I have been wanting to go to Hummus Labs ever since they were promoting heavily on SGV Eats during the pandemic. Finally had an opportunity to actually be in Pasadena, so I tried it. Wanted to try something other than the usual at Mediterranean restaurants, so I tried their beef shawarma as it looked way better in the pictures than what I would have expected. I was actually pleasantly surprised. The quality of the beef was top-notch and the flavor was amazing. Plus the amount of food we got fed me for two meals! Definitely worth it for the price. Really liked the roasted tomato habanero hummus as well. Staff are really friendly here. Only quibble I have is that it took a bit before we got our food, but since everything was made-to-order I'm not gonna quibble too much about that. Hummus Labs definitely delivered on the hype. I don't think I can ever go back to eating store bought hummus. Hummus Labs has been in my bookmark for a while now and I finally got to try it for dinner tonight! We ordered the beef shawarma platter with classic hummus and cilantro jalapeño hummus as the sides. The food was plentiful for two people. The two hummus were delicious and flavorful! Beef shawarma was very well seasoned and tender! I can't wait to come back and try their shawarma nachos. The food doesn't make you feel heavy after eating. I definitely recommend this spot if you're a big hummus fan. Parking: I'm glad that there's parking in the back because it's so hard to find parking in Pasadena! read more

If you are staying in Pasadena Hotel you have to come eat here !!!! I had the Lunch special & it was amazing!!! The staff is super friendly & treat you excellent as soon as you walk in :) Restaurant is nice clean & comfy in a deli type way :) Glad i stopped here .... Shawarma nachos always comes loaded, but the platters are really disappointing. For a minimum charge of $14.95+, you only receive choice of protein, rice, and two sides.. absolutely no roasted vegetables. The food is still good, but I would probably only come for the nachos which are big enough to share for two read more

I gotta lead this off by saying that Joseph and the whole crew are champs. Some of the tastiest and creamiest hummus you'll try with equally good accoutrements :) Meat is always grilled to perfection, rice is fluffy, and the flavors of hummus always hit. I get Tomato Habanero for the hit of heat, but the Cilantro Lime and Beet are equally tasty. Do yourself a favor and splurge a few extra bucks for the pita chips bag - these are as cheap as a bag of Lays these days and have amazing flavor. Will always be a must stop at spot whenever I'm up in Pasadena! read more

Is everything on the menu halal?
Unfortunately we don’t have halal consistently on the menu. At the moment our filet mignon skewer and beef shawarma are halal.

Last time I visited (about a month ago), a saw diners eating inside the restaurant. I'm sure if you call, they will let you know. They are very nice.

Any gluten free dishes?
All of our proteins are gluten free. Our rice can be substituted for lettuce or upgrades to a salad for a nominal fee. All of our dips are gluten free as well.
