The overall experience here feels like such a treat. It is expensive, but worthwhile for special occasions or even if you just feel like splurging. A reservation is definitely the way to go. My partner and I went for our anniversary and were surprised with a complimentary glass of bubbly, which made the evening even more memorable. The side dishes felt very intentional, and I appreciated that our server recommended which ones paired best with different meats. In town for jazz conferences and festivals and met up with friends for a birthday gathering/splurge. The restaurant is sleek, our server was efficient and attentive, she prepared more cuts of beef than either of us can remember. Some were more flavorful than others- but everything was good. Came here with a group of 7 and I believe we got the Grand Elite package, which worked well for a larger group. Because of our party size, we were seated in a private room instead of the floor seating, which was a nice and more niche accommodation. All the food was pretty good overall, and having the staff cook everything for us made the experience smooth once things got going. That said, since we were in a private room, it felt like we were kind of forgotten at first -- we didn't get properly served until about 30 minutes after our reservation and after we were already seated, which was frustrating. To their credit, they did apologize and accommodated us with a free bottle of champagne, which was appreciated, but the long wait was still irritating. Once service picked up, it was good and attentive. Also worth noting: it's cheaper to pay in cash than card, so keep that in mind before coming. Another elevated Korean bbq restaurant has opened in Ktown! This place gives me Cote vibes but with a much more premium set menu compared to cote's butchers feast. They are generous with the amount of meat, side dishes, and accompaniments given per set menu. My friend and I ordered their most basic prime package for two ($155) and boy were we stuffed! There was more than enough food to feed 3 or even 4 people. All cuts of meat were fresh, tender, and so flavorful! Their side dishes? Also amazing. I've never seen a kbbq restaurant give as many yummy side dishes as they did at Howoo. Their servers and staff are very attentive, often filling our waters, and also grilling our meats at a good pace. Our meat was always cooked perfectly and they consistently refilled our sides! I call this place Nubiani 1.5 The ambiance is better than Nubiani in midtown but similar to Nubiani in midtown east, feels more upscale because the escort takes you to the dining area and you feel more "treated." We got package for two- freaking amazing but honestly i couldnt tell too much difference from Nubiani. The only difference is they give sotbap with mushroom so they tried to upscale a bit more from Nubiani but i think they are equally great. A new favorite kbbq place in NYC! Went with a few friends, just walked in on a weekday. Space is beautiful and warm with great vibes and service. So much easier to go to than Cote and I liked the meat a little more than Nubiani (my other fave). Vibes are different than Nubiani, I feel like it's a little more serious here but just as good. There were four of us, but we split the Elite package for 2 and got a bunch of à la carte items to try and a bottle of wine. Ended up being around the same price as any other "high end" KBBQ place. This place is Nubiani's classy older sister! It's in a HUGE space and there are a bunch of private rooms on the second floor. The bathroom situation is interesting though as it is a single stalls and you don't know which ones are occupied. Food wise, we got the prime package (lunch deal) and it was a good amount of food. A little bit more expensive than Nubiani but there's a lot of meat. I would come here again if Nubiani is full since it's pretty easy to get a reservation here. I also recommend this restaurant for any corporate dinners because of the private rooms. read more

wow, this has to top the list as one of my favorite Korean barbecue spots in the city! The space is beautiful inside, the meat is extremely high-quality, and the service is outstanding - the staff pays so close attention to you and is constantly refilling your water, making sure your food is not overcooked, and even one time I dropped my chopsticks in within 10 seconds I already had a new pair. We did the premium meat package that comes with the Bonchon and either soup or noodles which we ended up getting one of each. The food is extremely fresh and all of the flavors complement each other very well. For two people, we were extremely stuffed towards the end of our meal, but glad that this package came with green tea soft serve ice cream, which the portion was just big enough to be perfect and not make us feel extra full. From the folks that brought you Nubiani comes.....Nubiani's less impressive little brother. Yes, the decor is sleek 'n' chic enough to impress your hedge fund date. Yes, the dishes are beautiful enough to belong to a gallery. Yes, the food is well-made enough to please your picky cousin. But there are issues. For one, they apparently prefer to serve their food in "courses". We got the Prime Package Quad (for four) x 2, since we were a party of eight. It came with one round of banchan, followed by a smaller round of banchan. Those came out fairly quickly. However, after that, we waited more than 30 minutes for our meat to arrive. After we complained multiple times, a server sheepishly explained that they serve their food in courses, which is why the meat/BBQ course hadn't arrived yet--they were waiting for us to be done our second banchan course. Well, that's nice, except: 1) They never told us their food was served in this way, so we had no way of knowing we were supposed to explicitly tell them we were done with our banchan. 2) Who TF serves KBBQ like this, anyway? I like having ban chan to accompany my 'cued meat so my plate is full of all the important macros. Even if you don't care about accompanying banchan, there's no reason to take it away from the people who still want to pick at it. 3) It still doesn't explain why it took them 30+ min to prepare our meat. As for the meat itself, it was nicely prepped but small in portion. You can get more for just as good quality at lower prices--and you won't have to wait half an hour for it to arrive, or have your banchan taken away. We did get two accompanying stews that were good quality but way, way too small for four people. They were more like one-person sizes. And some people got complimentary matcha soft serve for dessert, which.....yay? In sum, stick with Nubiani, not its wannabe glow-up younger sibling. read more

New fancy Korean BBQ restaurant that is in a MASSIVE space, Howoo has planted its flag in the middle of Manhattan and likely aims to compete with the other higher-end KBBQ spots. The ambience is modern and spacious, truly a beautiful spot (and one that isn't filled with smoke like some other KBBQ spots). If you've ever been to some of the other spots (e.g., Cote, Nubiani) then you'll be at home here. The procedure is largely the same, you have some optional dishes you can order, there's some banchan, and the focus is on the meats. So how is the meat? Great. Delicious marbled beef that's cooked by the waitstaff. The pace at Howoo is quite a bit slower in my experience than some of the other spots in town, but I actually prefer that. The banchan here was OK, maybe a bit weaker but not drastically so. I think Howoo should definitely be in your consideration if you're looking for a higher-end KBBQ spot in the city. I imagine reservations will be a little easier here because of the size, and that's worth something in itself. read more

Let's get this out of the way. Interior is modern and beautiful. The best in NYC in my opinion. They have private rooms lining second floor that looks out to the dining room. This restaurant is made to entertain guests. Would be perfect for a business dinner. Service was attentive but we came early when the restaurant wasn't full. I think they probably need more servers. My main problem was that the food was kinda meh. Quality of the beef was very good to be sure but no better than any other good BBQ place. Nice selection of different cuts from less fatty chuck flaps to very fatty wagyu. What was disappointing was the side dishes. For this quality of restaurant I feel like they should have provided higher quality banchan. As for appetizers we had the seafood salad and beef and seafood pancakes. Seafood salad for $27 is definitely a pass. The beef and seafood pancake was okay. Finally if you order the set menu they say that banchan is a separate course. What? Koreans don't just eat banchan without meat or rice. Why do they do it this way? Kinda dumb that they even offer it this way. We told our waiter to just bring the meat at same time. You should do the same. Also they served ice cream at the end in paper cups. Blah. If you're gonna charge that much you should serve it in something better Looks like they spent a ton of money building out the place.
