I just can't get over the ambiance. Needs a total renovation. Not up to date. I felt like I was time warped when walking into that place. I felt like it was more a bar than restaurant. For what this place is it gets 3 STARS. It has very friendly staff and service is great. Burgers are good. Deals are great. I don't eat at places like this often and it's unique for sure, so I can't really compare to anything else. Great for guys to chill and eat inexpensive meal. A group of us were talking about PeraBell and how they won some burger contest, which then led into talking about Reese's, which then rolled into the Tap Room and 5points, then the burger shack and so on....when this guy chimes in that I have to try Howard's. okay, so if he's putting a Howard's burger in the same league as the above burger heavens, I'm there. Went last night.....underwhelmed is the statement of the year. Gross is what's being served. I got the BLT burger, with cheese. Ordered the "steak fries". Hubby had a cheeseburger with sautéed onions (it had a name, but does it matter). Boy had a plain old cheeseburger. We all had the "steak fries" (ill get back to that). Salad comes in what I guess is family style. Dollar store plastic bowl filled with unwashed iceberg lettuce. Smaller dollar store bowls come. 2 to be exact. One has red onions, one had croutons. And the piece de resistance? The "salad dressing caddy". A 4 cup holder that holds 4 plastic cups (think urine sample cup) and boasts blue cheese, Russian, Italian and couldn't tell us what was in the 4th. Wonder if the dressings were on another table, or if the onions had hopes to make it on someone else's plate but wound up as leftovers on ours. Think "communal" Now for the burger. Clearly pre pressed meat that was frozen. Not fresh pressed from fresh meat, that's for sure. My burger came with bacon. It was bacon you would find at Wendy's-no lie. Weak, wimpy bacon with no presence and no taste at all other than "smokey", I think. I actually peeled it off (it kind if melted into the burger) because it had a weird smokey taste to it- not like applewood smoked, or hickory or anything that resembles yummy- no, it was like a cheap add on smokey taste. Well, I'm wondering if the taste was actually coming from the burger itself- almost as if liquid smoke had been added to the meat. Hubby didn't have bacon and when I mentioned this said smokey taste, it was as if a lightbulb went off and he proclaimed "liquid smoke- that's it"!!! Hello!!! He didn't have bacon on his burger. *shudder* I left more than half of my burger. Now, steak fries. Thinking steakhouse, or old school diner with nice thick slabs of potato fries? Wrong!!!! Picture a potato sliced in 2 inch slices and then cut in 1/4's. that's not a steak fry! That's I don't know what that is, but it's not a steak fry! The waffle fries looked really good though (eye spied them on several other tables). Now, this is what leaves me baffled....within 5 miles there are AMAZING burger places. Then there's Howard's. The place was PACKED. With a LINE!! Loaded with "regulars"!!!! What??? Could there be that many people who want cheap burgers served by cheap wait service (a little trashy) for more money than they would pay at at least 5 other great places that BLOW this out of the water? Is free wine or beer or whatever is "free"(we weren't offered any free wine- I had a water, hub had an iced tea and the boy had a seltzer)worth it, or does the food taste good after consuming so much free beer or wine? I don't have the answer, but I do know that I won't be back- ever. In fact, if you find yourself in the shopping center, go to Wendy's. Their burger is better, by far. or loop back around and go to the California diner. Oh, and if you every get a recommendation from John (said coworker with bad taste)- don't pay any attention to him. This place was fantastic - we went on a Tuesday night and it was a little busy, but our waitress was very attentive to us. We chose to order the meals on the back of the menu because of the free carafe of beer or wine or sangria that comes with them - and we were very satisfied. My chicken cordon bleu was DELICIOUS and the waffle fries that I got were excellent. Prices are reasonable, and I would definitely recommend eating here! read more

I haven't been dissatisfied ever when I went here. The food is great and I love the pickles...there is something about this place that makes me feel nostalgic. I Used to go to the original Howards Cafe in North Babylon .I used to take my kids here alot they loved the place .Yes it's old but that's what gives it , it's Charm . I discovered it again in Patchogue.It hasn't changed. I was there two weeks ago and again Friday.Dinner time and lunch time.Two different waitresses both excellent. They make the burger the way you want it. A beer and burgers place. The burgers are good, and the regular fries are unique. They are more chips then fries, baked potatoes cut up then fried. I also tried the chili, but will pass next time. This place is awesome for drinking. Let me start by saying unlimited sangria, wine or beer. With that said after being here a few times it's like what do you order other then burgers but becoming friendly with the waitresses we found out you can change any burger into grilled chicken, chicken cutlet or veggie burger. This is a totally redeeming factor because all you can drink and their assortment of burgers and possibly chicken or veggie burger you can totally switch it up without tasting the same thing over and over. Came with a couple of friends after hearing rumors of the free beer with the meal. The rumors are true..and had more than enough to drink with the meal. Staff was very courteous and the burgers are great. Burgers are a little pricey BUT not after considering you get the burger AND salad AND fries AND all the beer you can drink while you eat. Went there last night for the first time with friends from back in the Day and had a great time. Service was friendly and responsive. Every time we emptied a pitcher of beer another full one replaced it in seconds. Oh and by the way. Select Draft beer was unlimited and included with our salad and burger. 4 of us sat and talked old times and then it hit us. Was attracted to try this place based on sign in window for a burger special for $5.00, talk about bait and switch, the special was only for take out, a burger inside was somewhere around $11, with a salad bowl and an unlimited carafe of beer, sangria or soda, well the burger was greasy and small, the salad was nothing special and the carafe of soda was a glass of soda, we asked about sharing the salad and soda and were told by the nasty waitress you cannot share anything, long story short, its really a bar with some food, unless you are going there for the beer or sangria don't waste you time, we will never be back read more
