    Mary, Mary grilled chicken
    Jean T.

I was absolutely starving after a hectic morning, which involved too many phone calls and a visit to a government entity. I had to go to the UPS store (avoided rude unpleasant character in Shirley), and saw Howard's Cafe. Looked it up here, seemed great. Went in, and greeted by really NICE people! And they have GLUTEN-FREE rolls! Caryn came to seat me and take my order. She was the BEST! She didn't know if the turkey burgers had breadcrumbs, so I went with the grilled chicken. I also decided that I deserved bacon, so got the Mary, Mary topping--bacon, mushrooms, and sautéed onions. Entrees come with a salad, which arrived in a bowl topped by another bowl, with two things of dressing and croutons on the side. Caryn didn't think that I could have the croutons, and she was right. The salad was iceberg lettuce, which I hadn't had in YEARS, lol, with tomato and red onion. And a shaker of BAC-O's!! Oh my. Hadn't had those in 30 years. Very salty, which explains why. There was a choice of skinny fries (boo), steak fries, or sweet potato fries. I got the steak fries, which were wedges. Yum! The grilled chicken was yummy and generous, the bun was TOASTED (yay), and the toppings piled high. So good! A tad dry, but Caryn brought me some mayo. I forgot to order cheese. Ack. This is a nice place, with a bar filled with convivial locals, a cheerful bartender, and the marvelous Caryn. There are booths and tables. The iced tea came with two slices of lemon! I was SHOCKED when I got the bill. SHOCKED. It was $20.06 for a LOT of food and an iced tea! I took half the sandwich home because I couldn't finish it. I did finish all the salad--and Caryn asked if I would like more (declined)--and all the fries. Astonishing. What a great value!! That seems so rare these days. I had looked at the menus of a couple of other nearby places. Very glad that I chose this one. Sad that it's not near me, but I'll be back.

The Artie with sweet potato fries

This is a 5 star dive bar and restaurant. Hasn't changed in 30 years, and there's a comfort to that for me. Wood paneling and sports memorabilia on the walls. Small tables and booths in restaurant area. And the bar is as neighborhood feel as they get. Spent many nights here when I was in college at St Joseph's. 30 years later, came for a meal and a drink. Service was friendly and fast. The menu is typical bar fare, with a flare for value! Meals come with soft drink, huge salad and for $3 upgrade a small pitcher of sangria or beer, equivalent to 2 pint glasses! We started with mozzarella sticks. Nice size, generous portion and perfectly cooked. With 3 in our party we got a huge side salad to share, and couldn't finish it. This comes with your meals. You choose your own dressing and get individual bowls to serve yourself. I love this! The burgers are amazing! So many choices. I went with a classic..The Artie, which is cheddar & bacon. It was cooked perfectly! I love that they offer more than just fries as your side dish. Regular fries, steak fries, baked potato, sweet potato fries or linguini you can choose from. I went sweet potato and they were great. Our server was so friendly and attentive. We enjoyed reminiscing and had a great meal at a great value. I forgot how much I love this place. I won't wait another 30 years before I come back.

Seeing as her birthday is next month, we wanted to go ahead and try to go to a tea house and see if she enjoys it enough to invite a few friends to our home next month and replicate the event.. now it is on the pricey side, but we thought it would be a special day just for three of us. We not only called for reservations, but then arrived early and although we were sat, we did not get any fresh brewed tea. we got hot water and no authenticity at all bagged tea not loose and if she tells you she had loose teeth, then the waitress was at fault, but I don't wanna blame the waitress either like she has so-called reviews that she answer she blames it on someone else whether it's the waitresses and there was a prefix menu, but she didn't have time where she's really busy or somebody had the flu or they're lying or a wall review. I am not that person I have been using yelp since it began. I am a top contributor and I have to say this was a very bad experience and I will not blame it on a single person except the manager and the staff themselves who were not doing anything in the back as we were watching like all the other if you said it takes forever it is a bad luck and they don't come back to the table and serve properly. They don't have time to even say hello and really get to the table in a timely manner. At that point, we got a small salad with no silverware and no cream and sugar so basically we were waiting for our beautiful two/three tiered high tea that was a prefix menu "supposedly??" But after 45 minutes and absolutely no one coming around and still no silverware cream or sugar we had to ask for three times including the owner and we still had nothing else. It was nearly 4 PM and my little girl was starving as was my husband who would've rather been anywhere at that point After the third go round we decided to leave! I'm diabetic and this was crazy! In my almost 46 years. I have never left a restaurant. I hope that you all have a better experience than we did...next time go to a diner! Don't waste nearly $60 pp something. You can buy at Sam's Club and serve yourself if it ever shows up! Angry is not even the word! Prefix my foot! ***Update: I saw what you decided to respond and like I said you are your own worst enemy because I have NO responsibility to tell you anything about being diabetic if I have to wait an hour for a $60 plate of food that you never served me what do I have to pay for? I don't believe that the world is built on you do nothing then I have to pay you for something? Wtf? I saw the other post you blame everybody by yourself. You blame when you're busy you blame it on Valentine's Day. You blame it on your waitress is having the flu. You blame it on everybody by yourself and as far as I'm concerned from sitting there and watching you for an entire hour go back-and-forth and do absolutely nothing. It's your fault nobody else's don't tagline my editorial because you think you wanna be right that doesn't work! I can go home and get hot water. Thank you very much for nothing. You are not only a nasty woman, but you also show a very sincere lack of understanding when it comes to how to run a business not only is it not my job to tell you I'm diabetic it's not my job to take my autistic daughter and have her wait over an hour for food. I don't care how many people you have. All those things are just excuses and as far as I was told when I grow up, it's about results not excuses!!!! SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR RESTAURANT WILL REPOST ALL OVER!!!!

On top of that, my damn car decided to up and die, so I've been bleeding money on Ubers just to get to and from work. I even had to go into work on my day off just to sit around waiting for the tow truck so they could junk it. Love that for me. After I handled business with the junkers, I said eff it and headed to Whiskey Neat. I was starving--no breakfast, running on fumes--and since my job's in Patchogue, I figured I'd finally try them for lunch. First of all... happy hour on a Saturday from 12-6?! Uhhh hello?? In my Angelina from Jersey Shore voice. And if you pay cash, you get the discount. Say less. They've got a fabulous small plates menu. I started with the French onion soup--ooey gooey mozzarella, cheese pull was undefeated. Soup was delicious too. I haven't had French onion in ages and it really hit. Then I had the pulled pork slider, which was really good, but BABY... those short rib croquettes? To. Die. For. I also had to get my classic deviled eggs. A little heavy-handed on the paprika, but still solid. Drinks were half off, so of course I indulged. Started with an espresso martini because I needed something to jumpstart my day. Then I had a French martini because duh--I'm a French girl ‍. That one was good. Finished with my classic cosmo. Not gonna lie, I've had better, but it did what it needed to do and helped me forget my troubles for a couple hours. Also great playlist of music. I got there and they were playing Ska. Love me some Reel Big Fish and No Doubt. Mixed with some Motown and Bob Marley. Made me remember the good old days.

After a difficult time trying to decide, I went with the Corpse Reviver No. 2 which is a delightful mix of London Dry Gin, Lillet Blank, lemon, Cointreau & absinthe rinse. It tasted like a light, fine lemon drop. We had already eaten but the menus all looked like they were filled with great options. We will create an UYE here..possibly even for a weekend day soon. They offer a very palatable HH and it would be great to return with a group of Yelpers soon.

Off…read morethe get go, customer service was great and offered a coat check free of charge for my jacket and umbrella since it was raining, definitely helped make it feel just a touch more upscale than your usual restaurant. Our wait staff was nothing but kind and patient with our moderately large party and checked up on us without being overbearing. Ambiance is very cool, and definitely leans into its classic and nostalgic feel of its name, but not in a campy way. If you bring a date here, they would be impressed by the nice tile and wooden features alone, but it's the food that is really going to blow them away, but we will get to that next. The menu and cocktails do rotate seasonally a bit, so your experience may vary on availability for some items, but if you come back often enough (and spoiler, you will want to), you'll see them comeback! We started with Caesar salad, calamari, and Korean fried wings with the easy standout being the fried wings, a bit spicy but delicious but buyer beware they are messy (don't worry though, they give you moist towelettes to clean yourself off), calamari was cooked exactly how it needed to be and not rubbery, and the Caesar salad was as good as I've had it anywhere (although there's was made with tahini, giving it a little sesame flair). For mains, we had a pesto pasta, steak frites with an au poivre sauce, with sides of jersey asparagus and mashed potatoes. Steak was cooked just right and I'd dip almost anything in that sauce, and the pesto pasta was a nice lighter and herby balance to the meal. Fries were perfectly crisp shoestring style and the other end of the potato spectrum was the delightfully smooth mashed potatoes and gravy. Asparagus has always been my favorite green, and adding a cream sauce with bacon only makes this version of it that much more enticing. Capping off with dessert, we had the chocolate Basque cheesecake, a brown sugar pie, and a pistachio cake. Choosing a favorite out of these is like choosing a favorite child I'm sure, but I am still craving more of that cheesecake, RUN do not walk to get that at the very least. Parking can be crazy in patchogue, there is a small attached lot and some street parking, but I'd advise using one of the municipal lots nearby and walking a little bit for your own sanity. One of my favorite dining experiences in patchogue to date, and will be happy to comeback here to try more of the menu for any occasion!

Brunch is also a good time to come with a limited menu so you're not overwhelmed with a little of everything on it. I tried the salmon caesear salad which was light with a nice dressing. We also tried the pancakes which were fluffy and delicious, as well as the steak and eggs (can't go wrong). Bottomless mimosas are also offered for $25 additional. I can't wait to do lunch/dinner here in the future.

The place offers live music occasionally and has a ton of space both indoors and out back to hangout, both with TVs in case you have any sport viewing you want to do as well. I definitely recommend the outdoor area if you've got a nice enough night for it. The drink variety won't blow your pants off, but it's got something for everybody and at prices that won't blow your pants off either. Although I didn't get a chance to try any of the food, from what I saw though it looked like good bar fare, and I in particular was eyeing the pizza. There's no dedicated parking lot, but there is some decent parking along the side streets nearby that shouldn't give you too much issue. This place is a nice change up from the typical scene you see a long main street. It might not be the loud and club like vibe you might be looking for, but for me that's quite alright.
