tater tots, mac and cheese, milkshake

I can't stop coming to their patio for happy hour for a cheap treat dinner! My favorite things to get are the Sriracha Ranch Tots, Salad (add cheese, no chickpeas,) and the Matrix Burger. For the second time they gave me the Atomic Burger when I ordered the Matrix Burger but luckily I recognized it by sight and caught it before killing my mouth with jalapeños and hot sauce. I explained this to the cook and he quickly swapped my order for the right one. When they omitted the chickpeas from the salad it also omitted the peppers that I do like so I might not order it this way again. The ranch that comes with the salad tastes scratch made, with fresh dill. This time I skipped getting a shake because I should try to be a little healthier and it has lost its novelty. I like that they're playing 00s alt rock (and even a little emo) tonight. I'm making the most of the end of patio weather and just enjoying this big dinner and taking in the ambience. I'll miss doing this once it gets cold!

puppers waiting for their sweet potato treats!

Sa-Tén - Canopy - SaTen Salad

Sa-Tén - Canopy

Initially, I was supposed to meet a friend at Sa-Tén-Canapy. GPS Alert: My GPS kept taking me to…read morethe Springdale Food Park, which appears to be a bike tour location. Please note that Sa-Tén is in an industrial-style complex and can be easily missed. The anchor point is a large green Canopy sign. After circling a few times, my friend and I started to meet at Stargazer instead for coffee. After having coffee at Stargazer, we decided to grab breakfast "to-go" at Sa-Tén as my Art contest start time was nearing. It is literally diagonally across the street from Stargazer. Sa-Tén means "coffee lounge" or "café" in Japanese. It traditionally refers to a relaxed neighborhood coffee shop...a place meant to be a welcoming community space. The coffee shop is small with wraparound glass windows emitting an abundance of light. Sa-Tén's interior is unassuming...really non-distinct. My friend ordered the last salmon toast, however, since she had previously tried it, she allowed me to have the last one. Such a thoughtful and kind friend...she ordered the bacon, egg and cheese toast instead. Let me just say this salmon toast was the bomb diggity. Our server described this breakfast item as salmon on white toast...what a major understatement! Our toast was even larger than Texas toast with a brioche taste and perfectly toasted. Quite honestly, I could have just eaten the toast all by itself. The salmon and cheese enhanced the taste. What a spectacular discovery! My friend was pleased with her selection as well. I will seek out Sa Tén when I'm on the East Side again.

I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.

So we thought we would make a whole night of it. Tiffany did make reservations for us for 7pm and even though this is a bar hopping neighborhood, even at 7pm it was pretty busy. Streets were full of people. Anthem had a vibe. I felt the energy as soon as I waked in. The cozy booths with the U shaped seating with plush green velvet fabric. Wait staff wore Hawaiian shirts. Sitting up behind me on a ledge was the Easter Island statue. Insert (Night At The Museum) here, dumb dumb give me gum gum. Anthem was our first stop tonight. Just drinks and a dinner. I ordered the Peach Fuzzy drink. Not too sweet, refreshing, peachy, and beautiful garnish of a flower. I ordered the Yummy Fries which looked like a salad. Gorgeous presentation. Fries were actually waffle sweet potatoes. Pickled ginger, sesame seeds, furikake, aïoli and a few other wonderful ingredients. Could not get over how beautiful everything looked. Presentation outstanding. Service delightful. Had a wonderful time at Anthem. We both did use the ladies rooms before leaving. Inside the bathroom there is a sign about safety and if you need assistants. I did take a picture of it. On our way out, Brian the manager, said good night to us and waved. We later saw Brian at another place. And I'll write about that in my review for that place as well. Brian, you're Doll, thank you for your hospitality.

To begin, parking around here can be very difficult if you don't know where to look as there are multiple lots to choose from, although the seemingly nearest is always taken up by cars. There was no wait on a Saturday afternoon. Once you're in, Bambino's is a calm and friendly environment to grab a bite at, featuring simple (and different) slices and sandwiches. You feel pretty welcome and at home in a nice layout with many tables and a bar top right across. The menu is diverse but one thing that sticks out right off the bat is the price. $4.50 for a plain slice? $22 for a footlong sub? Not to mention they tack on an automatic 20% service charge to every bill, which to their credit was mentioned about 3-4 times by the waitress. By the end of eating a $5 pepperoni slice we somehow paid nearly $7. Was it worth it? No. The pizza is decent, nowhere near worth the cost though. The dough is a bit too doughy and the cheese and sauce are alright. The slice is bigger than an average one so we can appreciate that. The best part was the pepperoni mixing in some nice little zip into the mix. For what it's worth, Bambino's is not bad, by any means of that word. However, for what they charge out of a slice in Austin, Texas of all places, you'd expect it to pack a lot more of a punch. Maybe the other food justifies the price, but after spending damn near $7 for one, we think it'll be a while before we give it another shot.

While the pizza was good, and the atmosphere was alright, the service left us somewhat perturbed. We got the Uncle Frankie and the Tracksuit pizzas. These pizzas were a whopping $30 each (after mandatory fee). We liked them, and two people who were not too hungry could share one. My friend was searching for a pizza option with chicken as she cannot eat red meat, and she was unable to find one. They also have an automatic 20% gratuity that is not included in the prices. It looks like the business owner is very defensive about this, so I don't want to engage, but it is very strange. The server came to our table, took our orders, then he came back for our cards. We thought he was making us open a tab, even though we didn't get any drinks, but turns out that was actually the payment. Before this, I had never been charged before receiving my food at a sit-down restaurant where they come to you to take your order. We were quite baffled by this as it's something you would see in movies or in the news where servers do that to discriminate again others because they think they may leave without paying. We did not see this as a policy on the menu, so we were shocked.

The sound and TVs were all pretty great for watching the game, and they had a ton of space. It was nice having the fake grass and picnic tables in the outdoor areas because it really added to the vibe while still being well shaded throughout. The food was good. During the game we shared the Fried Pickles, which were crispy and well breaded with good pickle chips, as well as their Green Chili Queso, which was also excellent. The chips had good seasoning and the queso was thick. For a main entrée, I ordered the patty melt. It was melty with good flavor, but I would have preferred chopped onions over sliced onions. The Sriracha mayo was great and added a kick I was not expecting. The drinks were decently priced for East 6th all things considered. I was not drinking that night and ordered a mocktail variation of their Lavender Haze using zero proof Empress gin instead of the regular Empress gin. They still charged the same price, which felt a little unfair, but it is what it is. Overall, it was a great experience and a solid bar for games. I could see myself coming back for another event since they handled a large crowd well. Aesthetically, the spot is really nice too, which adds to the positives. Not bad for a last minute decision. This combo comes with fresh bacon bits on top and chives. We also ordered a mimosa carafe (with pineapple juice) which was only $12! Such a great deal!
