I have to start off by saying as someone who is German (half Italian/half German) I absolutely love the twist on traditional German fare. The chef/owner, Malcolm, had an incredible way of melding flavors that just pop in your mouth. This food truck along with his other truck, Hippie Ice, is located inside Kenny Dorham's Backyard. I was looking for a unique Austin experience - this did not disappoint! The name Hippie PicNik is absolutely perfect. It's a big yard full of chaotic art. It's obvious that this is sometimes a great music joint, but when I was there, it was very sedate. The staff was extremely friendly, and the Crunch Wrap - which I had had with hummus - was delicious. Delicious and huge. Had to leave 20% of it on my plate just so I didn't stuff myself. An absolutely fabulous meal. Do yourself a favor, and make this an Austin must-visit. read more

Stumbled upon this food truck on East 11th Street when we were nearby for another event. The area is quite spacious with a couple of food trucks and stage for live music bands. It's a very Austin vibe, true to its core. We got the loaded fries with plant based fried chicken, not the healthiest food but it was yummy! There was a jazz band playing on stage making it a very pleasant evening. There's a few tables and chairs available for seating and parking can be found on the nearby streets. read more

We happened upon this food truck today when trying to go to another one that was closed and we are sure happy that we did! This food truck is positioned in the back of a courtyard with other food trucks, and stage for music where they have reggae first and third Wednesday of the month. We ordered the Texan loaded bratwurst and the Americano loaded fries. Loaded is an understatement! There are so many wonderful flavors all mixed together. It's amazing! The service was so good and nice atmosphere to take it all in. I definitely will be coming back to try other items on the menu and they have a sister frozen ice stand where you get a discount. read more

Got the Italian ice. Perfect level of sweet (rare for Austin mango-flavored stuff), and the service was top notch.

I think I had something called the currywurst here :). It was really really good. Came out because I had to do a delivery for this restaurant and ended up eating here myself too. Saw how cheap the food was so I was like ehhh why not haha. Really like the name of the restaurant as well and the people who worked here were pretty interesting personality-wise. anyways highly recommend trying them out as they are definitely one of the cheapest restaurants you could eat at downtown. read more

Stopped by here on a whim when the other place we were trying to go had a long line and it was a pleasant welcoming surprise!!! As one of many food trucks in the area, I'm sure the competition is tough and they seem relatively new but think people need to give this place a shot. My man Malcom was the best. He was clear in explaining the menu, breaking down what each item would be and the best sellers along with matching something to my hunger level. I got the Hipster jalapeno-cheese bratwurst combo with fries and man the food looked beautiful for one, which isn't common from food trucks and the fries were well seasoned and fried perfectly. I would recommend this place for sure and it has great vegan/vegetarian alternatives so friendly for all! And if the service weren't already amazing, Malcom brought out the food to me and along with a rice crispy treat. What a guy! Keep up the good work dude! read more

I was in the neighborhood and decided to give this a try - I'm so glad I did! I ordered a beef Crunchwrap meal and it is the best. I personally love bbq sauce with fries so I was amazed when I received that without asking, typically it's ketchup. I have not had a Crunchwrap from Tacobell but I know rather have this crunch! As a person born and raised in Germany (relocated to the US a couple of years ago) I'm very skeptic of German food out here, and sadly it almost always turns out to be an accurate skepticism. My friends, that was not even close to being a Döner, chicken chunks? Random sauces? Cold pita bread? Cheddar cheese? That has as much to do with Döner as a bucket of bricks, y'all shouldn't be calling it that. I tried the Currywurst, the sausage would never be used in Germany, we use a traditional bratwurst similar to a Weißwurst style almost, this wasn't it. Gotta give y'all props for the curry sauce though that one was very similar. But yeah, not German street food, very Americanized fusion that was a little all over the place. read more

This is one of my favorite places to grab food in Austin! The man running it is doing an amazing job and is putting out QUALITY! The crunch wraps are soooooo good I can't think of one thing on the menu here that wouldn't be delicious!! They have live music here often and my husband and I bring our baby out and sit at the picnic tables. we enjoy coming here soo much! I don't know if I caught them on a bad day, but stale pita, overcooked meat, bagged lettuce, burnt fries... need I say more? The food truck also doubles as a lifestyle brand, which is a bit confusing. While the staff was friendly, they kept messing up my very simple order and running back several times to double check what exactly I had ordered to the point I thought I might be on a prank reality tv show.
