    Smash burger
    Trinh T.

Thunder Chief Burgers is a burger joint/sports bar that serves up a really great smash burger. It's won a few awards recently and has joined the Austin food scene with a bold attitude and a no-frills approach, this spot is definitely worth checking out if you're a burger enthusiast. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - This is your typical sports bar setup. There are plenty of bar height tables and chairs and TVs all around. But it was strangely empty on a Saturday in late May. Other than the empty vibe, the setup is casual and straightforward--clearly focused more on the food than the frills. NOTE: There were no paper towels in the men's room. 1/2 Stars. Service - Each table had QR code you scan then order from your phone. Once you order, your food is brought out quickly to your table by the friendly staff. Fast, efficient, and with a smile. No complaints here! 1 Star. Food - I ordered the smash burger. Thunder Chief absolutely nails the Maillard reaction--those crispy, caramelized edges on the patty were perfection. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of char. It's clear they know what they're doing. I also appreciated the simplicity of the toppings, which let the beef shine. My curly fries were ok and forgettable. One of the best smash burgers I've had, but also one of the priciest. $15 for smash burger with caramelized onions + $4.50 for fries. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. Despite the quiet vibe during my visit, the burger alone is enough to bring me back. I'd love to try it again when the place has a bit more energy--maybe during one of their $5 Smash Burger Mondays.

Stopped in for the Friday lunch special. $5 chicken sandwich. You have my attention. Find the menu and order through the QR code. The bar wasn't very busy. Service was prompt from the bartender and the kitchen. Thunder Chief is only open for lunch Friday, Saturday, Sunday. They have great deals running all week for when you get off work or dinner. There was a decent variety of beers on tap. Multiple screens in the bar. Not too quiet. Not too loud. My sandwich was amazing. Crispy but still juicy chicken. I added lettuce and tomato. I'll definitely stop in again.

Let me start by saying this place is fire. I don't give out 5 stars unless the food really impresses me and the first taste of the nachos had my eyes popping out of my head goofy-style. The sauce/cheese/chicken combo is undefeated. This is the first time the Smashburger wasn't the star of the show. everything else came second to those nachos, they have changed the way I look at food.

Double smash burger and curly fries

Thunder Chief is inside Lavaca St Bar and serves a small but diverse menu of elevated bar food and snacks. Everything we've tried here has been unexpectedly phenomenal. Fresh, full of flavor, and served with love. The cook is very kind and last weekend when I couldn't finish my amazing HUGE double smash burger he came and talked with us to make sure everything was just right. I felt bad for not being able to finish it because it was so delicious and he was so concerned my husband had no problem devouring his! The burger is one the best in town, Wagyu patties smashed so the edges get nice and crispy, fresh toppings and perfect bun. They've got the good ranch folks!! Can't recommend this place enough!

That's right, they have Ranch Water on Tap coming out of the spicket just like draft beer. It was really good and very popular with the other patrons. I ordered the Italian Sub and my wife ordered the Muffuletta Sandwich. They both had so much meat and veggies on them. It was actually kinda hard to take a bite, but we managed. They were both very good. The service in this place is amazing. I got to give a shout out to my bartender "Matt"! He was so attentive, on top of everything and had a great personality. He's one of the best bartender's I've ever had. It was a pleasure to meet you Matt! The atmosphere and ambiance in this place is very lively, joyful and rocking. They had a band that was made up of several band members from a school (sorry I don't remember the name of the school) that was killing it on stage. They played all kinds of music and a lot of old rock and roll music. They were so much fun to listen to and watch. This was our first time here, but it for sure won't be our last. I think we found a new hangout!!

The beer menu was extensive and probably something for anyone including THC and NA. The beer garden itself is very cool, lots of communal tables. And outside there are picnic tables set up, some covered. There was a food truck there with sausages, not sure if it's permanent or not. Also inside, a huge stage for bands. This place must be a draw on music nights. Highly recommend!

Looking for a place to watch March Madness and it felt like a humid day packed like sardines in a Boston T car when we walked in and out of Lavaca. We were quite enlightened to walk into The Pub, right around the corner, welcoming us to a cool and dim space with tiled floor, trimmed walls, and embellishments of faux trees. The space wasn't overly packed and a good amount of TVs to feel supported by at least three different sporting events. Even a TV in the men's room (not women's). Service was great! Regular table sweeps. Eric at the bar was very kind and accommodating. What to order? You're in an Irish Sports Bar. A Guinness is a must. The heads were perfect. Pastrami sandwich. You won't be disappointed. And the Burger was actually pretty good too, and unique with touches of arugula and mixed brisket and ground beef meat. Of course, it's always a fun touch to have some special sauce offered. The only thing I noticed that seemed unusual was, not only an automatic tip applied but also, a credit card processing fee added to the bill. Felt a little odd and out of place. Of course, I'm not sure if this is applied with regular service, as we ordered directly from the bar (despite sitting at a high top nearby). Another observation: a lot of people ordered wine and even espresso martinis here. Either they know something I don't, or this place calls to a variety of people. Cheers!

I came in and grabbed a beer at the bar and worked on my laptop while I waited for my buddy to join. Even though it was a busy week night, there was still plenty of seating. Every single employee is incredibly friendly and seems like they truly care about the work they do. We ordered a pizza, salad, and Italian sub. The pizza and salad were fantastic as always. I probably wouldn't order the sub again but that won't change my love for this place.

We waited maybe 20 minutes to order then another 45 minutes for food, which wasn't that bad for a busy Friday night. We were crowded outside, and we didn't really have enough table or chair space. That's to be expected when we descended upon the restaurant with such a large group. For six people, we ordered three pizzas to share. We definitely could have shared with more people because we had some pizza left over. We got The Works, Shroomin' Goat, and Texas Chicken Ranch pizzas. The Texas Chicken Ranch was by far our favourite. It was really good, while the other two were alright. The crust was weirdly bubbly and amorphous looking. There was a lot of crust. The Works was okay. The sauce and meat weren't particularly tasty. The Shroomin' Goat was a vegetarian pizza with a lot of arugula, which is not my type of pizza, but our vegetarian friend said it was okay. Great vibes at Pinthouse overall though, and I have enjoyed their other pizzas in the past.
