The Ferragosto party at Hotel Sorrento was pure magic. I had the pleasure of attending this midsummer celebration, beautifully produced by Jaclyn in collaboration with Hotel Sorrento. From the moment I arrived, it felt like stepping into an Italian summer dream--linen-draped tables, twilight aerialists, coastal scents, and Vespa photo moments all brought la dolce vita to life in Seattle. The evening was thoughtfully divided into two experiences: La Tavola, an intimate Italian dinner with wine pairings and live music, followed by La Festa, a vibrant open-air celebration with curated bites, wine tastings, and beach cabanas. Every detail was intentional, and the atmosphere was both elegant and welcoming. This was one of the best social events I've attended in Seattle. I made great connections, enjoyed exceptional food and service, and was impressed by how affordable the tickets were, given the quality of the experience. This is an older hotel, you can tell by the decor and style of the place. Absolutely beautiful structure and details of the building, even if you don't like older style decor. Even the elevator was gorgeous! Checking in, they ask for your ID and card and give you a candy. Staff was nice, but they didn't direct me to the elevator so I entered the wrong hallway and was lost, but eventually went back and found it. There's a restaurant downstairs on the right side that is not included with your room, but offers breakfast, lunch and dinner to anyone that wants to pay for it. The room itself was a decent size for a hotel, and everything looked maintained except for the temperature control. I came here in April so it was pretty warm, but the cool option did not do anything. I ended up opening the window in hopes that it would cool down but it did not help. The bathroom also had some hairs on the towels and on the wall in the shower, they did not clean as thoroughly as they should have. But the bed itself was comfortable, and the door was sturdy so I felt safe despite being by myself that night. Overall I wasn't crazy about my stay because it was too hot in my room. read more

This is a classy old beautiful hotel and we were very comfortable here, but I just want to put out there that blackout curtains should be standard in hotels. There were sheer curtains and then ornamental drapes that sadly didn't close. A fair amount of street noise, too, but that can't compete with my husband's snoring, so I had earplugs anyway. read more

We stayed here for 6 nights and used Hotel Sorrento as our base to see the National Parks and would not return. First of all the hotel is way too expensive for what you are getting. The rooms are extremely outdated (yes I am aware this is an old building, but I am talking about the interior decor and general condition), tiny and haphazardly cleaned. Wifi is absolutely terrible and we mentioned it to the front desk. They said they would take care of it but nothing ever happened and they never followed up with us. I also mentioned my concerns after our stay in a survey and got no response. The location of the hotel was the main reason we stayed here and it might be good for one or two nights but if you stay longer than that I would go somewhere else. Restaurant was great. read more

This is one of Seattle's most quaint & beautiful hotels. Very romantic, ADA compliant (I am mobility impaired & this is important to me). Right before surgery & post surgery we were able to get the special hospital rate! Every time we visited each room was clean, bed comfortable, bathroom ADA compliant. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated with Sorrento. I used to come here when I lived in Seattle, and I wanted to come here for holiday weekend. I sat for 30minutes in the fireside room and not a single person asked if I needed help. Am I supposed to chase after someone to spend money? The restaurant was "too busy" for a table, so I sat by the fire and watched two tables empty for the next two hours. Food and service extremely disappointing. I prepaid for parking and breakfast for two, and was assured the front desk would apply my purchase. NOPE. This room on the second floor for over $350 a night isn't worth it AT ALL. Sorrento is known for holiday brunch and teas - as someone paying to stay here, the service was beyond despicable. I have worked years in customer service and this wouldn't be tolerated. Do NOT book a room here, and good luck trying to get an "elusive" spot in a lounge. Apparently this place thinks it's Buckingham palace. read more

The penthouse of the Hotel Sorento was the setting for a very special occasion that I was honored to organize. I was very astounded by it! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The experience was so much better than I had anticipated that it left me with an indescribable sense of elation. This place is fantastic, and all of my guests rave about it. This is an historic luxury hotel. It does not have all the modern niceties but has been cleaned up well. Floors squeak, takes forever to get hot water (but it does show up!), spacious room, etc. All things you'd expect from an old place. Unfortunately, there were a couple operational aspects that just couldn't be overlooked. After being checked in quickly at an empty front desk, we found dirty towels left on the floor and hanging on the door in the room. Ok - cleaning staff missed them. Fine. Dial '0' as instructed and ... nothing. No answer. I wandered back downstairs to an empty front desk. Where's that promised, "We're here 24/7"? I wait and soon someone arrives. "I'll let housekeeping know". We step out for a couple hours (it's 7:00pm) and the towels haven't moved when we arrive. Ended up putting them out in hallway just to get them out of the room. Second, the bed was made ... upside down. Who puts the sheet on top of the comforter?!? Weird. We just remade the bed ourselves. The bar area is beautiful but only open on some nights - and not open past 10:00. The restaurant was decent, with a limited menu. On another trip we'll try somewhere else. We spent a couple of nights here before taking an Alaska cruise. It's an old but well-kept hotel, and the rooms are nicely appointed. We were prepared for the small, slow guest elevator and creaky wood floors, but we sorely missed ice and drink vending machines. We had to hoof it to the liquor store around the corner, which was a little dicey after dark. The side street appears to lead directly to a hospital's emergency entrance, as ambulatory sirens could be heard day and night. We just turned up the portable A/C unit in the room to create more white noise. Lastly, seeing a Facility fee added to my nightly stay is quite a stretch when there's not even an ice machine on the floor. read more

Check-in process was easy, however, leaving the hotel and getting my car out of valet was not. I went to the front desk at 2:30 am to check out and get my car from valet. I was able to get someone to the front desk about 15 minutes later and had to be escorted to the garage to get my car. I would not recommend a stay where you have to be in and out at unconventional times. read more

We were so excited to stay here when we booked it. The building is old and beautiful. It really has a charm to it. All the people who work there are warm and helpful. It's located 5-15 minutes away from all the spots you'd need to cover on your first trip to Seattle. We walked to Pike Place Market from the hotel and it only took 15-20 minutes. There were only two things that were disappointing. Our room was sweltering. I think our air conditioning was broken or too old. We tried opening all the windows but nothing helped and we were very uncomfortable. The other thing that was a bit hard to get past was how loud it was. The windows are so thin and we found it hard to sleep with all the noise. So if you're a light sleeper I'd definitely take that into consideration. But I think I would come back. Like I said the staff were friendly and accommodating, the food and cocktails were great, and it's a good spot to get to other areas of Seattle. read more

I stayed here for a vacation with some friends and it exceeded our expectations. Staff was exceptionally hospitable and such a great location - just a short walk downtown and other areas nearby. Beds were comfy and had lots of pillows available. Our room was upgraded upon arrival free of charge which was certainly unexpected. We always had bottled water available, bathrobes, toiletries and linens were changed at our request. They were so kind to open the door. Just a few thoughts: it can be noisy late at night because of ambulances. I didn't hear noises from other rooms though, so keep that in mind!! The TVs have cable but are NOT "smart TV's" and do not have streaming service capabilities to connect to. While they do not offer breakfast services, there's a cute little bakery to pick up breakfast priced at less than $10. The heat did not work well, but they were so quick to respond and had a space heater readily available for us to use. Heating was not a problem afterwards. I used the gym. I would say it's fairly on the basic side: treadmill, bike, a few machines, yoga mat, and a set of dumbbells that range from 5-30lbs with a bench. All of the hospitality made up for the nitpicky "thoughts" I mentioned before. I would definitely stay here again when I return. read more

We stayed at the Sorrento for five days this Summer, and frankly, I was very sad to leave. This is a beautiful classic hotel with a gracious boutique charm. The room was beautiful and fun. The location was great. The lobby and restaurants feel classically elegant and have real style, amazing food and great service. This doesn't in any way feel like a McMansion hotel. So beautful and unique. The elevator has a rug that says the name of the hotel and what day of the week it is, just in case you forgot... The staff is great. The room was well appointed. The bathroom with white marble tile and a nice tub. I want to come back! Apparently this hotel is haunted! We didn't encounter anything unusual! This was the best hotel that we could have chosen. Attended the annual Witches Tea in 10/05/24 and I have never been so disappointed in an afternoon tea service. We reserved and confirmed a party of four. We arrived with a confirmation as a party of three so we were already squeezed into a too tight space. The service itself was delayed with tables who arrived after us receiving their towers before us. As these tables around us finished their service we finally asked when we could expect ours and were told it was in its way. It took another 15 minutes. When the tower finally arrived it was not what we had expected. The tower was pathetic. Lower level had 4 open faced triangle wedge sandwiches. (Each wedge was essentially 1/2 a slice of regular bread without the crust). Middle level and 4 round silver dollar pancake sized cucumber finger sandwiches. Top level had two chocolate cupcakes. Two tiny custard pastries. Two mini scones. That was supposed to serve 4 people. It did not. For how many years the Sorrento has been hosting afternoon tea and for the price point it was a total let down and well not be coming back and would recommend you try someplace else for your afternoon tea cravings, this simply didn't live up to the hype or the price. read more

Oh my goodness, Sorrento -- what happened? I was so excited to visit -- have raved about the hotel for years -- and so brought my partner for a special long weekend away. I don't know whether it's because we ended up booking via Hotel Tonight and so got the worst room in the hotel, but it was nothing like the rooms I've stayed in in the past. The bed was VERY uncomfortable; the heating/cooling system is a wall unit from a 1960s Howard Johnson's (see photos). Even with the window open slightly (only because we were on a high floor and these aren't safety windows because it's a beautiful old building) and the fan going, it was uncomfortably warm -- and the weather outside was very chilly. There also isn't any independent heating source in the bathroom -- so our stay was a menopausal experience of too warm of a room, followed by a very cold bathroom. On the plus side: Even for a queen room, the room itself feels very, well, roomy -- the ceilings are so high and there is decent space between the bed and the table, and so you don't feel claustrophobic as can happen in some hotels. IMPORTANT TIP: If you plan to park your car, they will tell you it's $48, which although slightly more expensive than the lot across the street, the advantage is that you can come and go as often as you please, and if you park across the street, you have to pay each time you enter. What they didn't tell us, however, is that there is an ADDITIONAL charge for using valet service (it's either a city or state charge, can't recall) -- and so it's more like $56/day. That may be fine with you -- and we probably would've still opted to do it -- we just wish someone had told us that at the beginning. Staff were perfectly nice, but not as helpful as in the past -- the valet guys were wonderful and super fast. But we asked for some help from the front desk and while they were, again, lovely, they weren't able to particularly help us out. It's still a beautiful, old boutique hotel (see photo for view from our room). Which also means that certain modern conveniences, like working wifi, aren't always available. We were up on the 6th floor, and the wifi did not reach up there; I had no idea I was using data, and went over my monthly allowance. The good news, though, is that downstairs the sitting room (see photos) is usually empty or with only one or two people in it, and with free coffee in the lobby, I'd go in there and get work done in a beautiful atmosphere with nice, old-school (REALLY old school) music playing. I would like to say that I'll be returning to the Sorrento -- but I think I'll await news of any renovations and consider it after that. read more

First of all, in the pictures, the hotel looks very quaint. In reality, it smelled moldy, the bathtub while it looked beautiful the molding was peeling, my husband fell down in the tub, he almost slipped on the step coming out of the tub and when you use the jets it splashes water all over the bathroom. *VALET STOLE FROM OUR VEHICLE* Stayed here for our honeymoon. I'm giving it 3 starts because it's a cool old building and rooms are clean. That being said we had quite a few issues during our stay. 1. I emailed them a few days prior to our arrival about the room and they didn't respond. 2.Upon arrival you have to track down a cart and be your own bellhop... that wouldn't have been a problem except at $309 a night it would be nice to have a little bit of help with luggage. 3.We got to our room and one of our windows would not close, maintenance came to look and said hmm that's weird I'm not fixing it tonight but I'll come by tomorrow and take care of it... he never came back to fix it. 4. There is no fan in the room. Not a dealbreaker but just fyi if you get hot while you sleep. Also the hotel is right next to an emergency room so you will hear sirens 24/7. 5. The first night we left our car with the required $60 a night valet, when we got it the next morning all of our weed from the dispensary, a giant bag of custom M&Ms, alcohol, and cheezits had been stolen and our stuff looked rearranged. The front desk was very polite about it and gave our number to the general manager and assured us he would be in contact. We had to ask everyday when we would be able to speak to him to resolve the issue but he never reached out, so at checkout the front desk staff took the extra hotel fees such as taxes off our bill. I appreciate them at least doing that, but having our stuff stolen and feeling worried the whole time with no response from the general manager was very upsetting. Overall I would not recommend, the aesthetic of the hotel and decent front desk staff isn't enough to make up for everything else you have to deal with. Especially for the price. read more

Our room was huge, simple elegantly appointed with big soft towels and comfortable king size bed. Breakfast in the front outdoor cafe was beautiful presentation and delicious. I talked with the hostess who told me the hotel has the same Staff for 4 years. The Staff is concerned about our comfort and satisfaction. Kudos to the owners and managers for understanding employee satisfaction makes customer satisfaction. Loved the weekend here and will make Sorrento my seattle hotel. read more

We had a nice stay here this past weekend. The staff was fantastic. Rory was so friendly and the front desk guys were super kind too. The room was obviously very old, and that's part of the style. But it still felt very rough around the edges. Few cobwebs in our room and it was very warm and musty when we walked in. Bed was a tad stiff. The highlight of our stay though was listening to the jazz singer in the lobby on Friday night with a few cocktails. Absolutely outstanding. The lounge took me back in the day. Soooo beautiful and romantic. If I lived here I'd come back just for the jazz entertainment. Also one more petty thing. I saw someone post that they have Le Labo toiletries here. They don't anymore. I was so disappointed! Overall a cool older hotel, if you're into that. read more

We stayed here for one night during our honeymoon trip to Washington. The room was great, the staff was friendly, and the location was great. Stayed here for a conference and even though the surrounding area looks rough it is actually a great location and the hotel itself was fantastic! The beds are comfortable and give you loads of pillows which I loved! The bathrooms are very nice. The Nespresso is much better than a regular coffee pods. It's between .7-1.2 miles to restaurants and bars and the walk to the pier is all downhill. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I would stay again for sure! Biggest drawback -- it's in a medical area so the sirens can be a bit much but overall nothing terrible to say. read more

Hotel was nice. We were in town for a surgical procedure at Virginia Mason, and we decided to stay here because of the short walk over to the hospital. We stayed at the hotel for 4 days. It would have been nice to have a coffee pot and microwave in the room. There is a mini fridge. Our curtains were way too short and not wide enough, so we felt pretty exposed in our room. We ended up getting an extra blanket and hanging it over the window. Even blinds would have been good. The website says that because of Covid the guest rooms would only be cleaned every other day. In the 4 days we were there nobody cleaned the room or gave us fresh towels The new restaurant Stella was a nice place to get a drink and appetizers, and the outdoor seating area is pretty cute. read more

When we got to our floor, we were grabbing our luggage and the person walked past me, but when I turned around, they simply vanished down the hall. This was the first time in the area and I chose Hotel Sorrento based on location and photos... In the end, it was just ok. The best part of our stay was the valet - he was attentive, and helpful when I needed directions to a local pharmacy. Once we walked into the lobby to check in, the 2 staff members at the front desk seemed bored and really casual. There wasn't a warm welcome which set the tone for our stay. Walking down the hallway to our room, I noticed that the walls were dirty and the carpet needed replacing. The beds were comfortable but the bathroom needed a fan (after taking a shower) and the window to clear out the humidity didn't have a screen. Lastly, the room was very dark and could have used more lighting. We passed through the lobby to eat a local restaurant and there was no one at the front desk to ask questions to or to send us on our way with a smile. And then again when we returned, no one was there to greet us. I saw that someone was in the office, but no one came out. As well, there wasn't a morning tea or coffee service in the lobby. This was the first time staying literally anywhere, that this type of service wasn't offered. For me, the staff is the most important part of a hotel. So many things can be overlooked when you are well cared for and feel special. This part of my experience was lacking and I with that in mind, I won't be returning. read more

This review is only for the bar at Sorrento. I come here quite often because I go to the doctor close by. The atmosphere is great but the bartender was pretentious. My real issue is that when you order a an old fashioned, they give you regular ice. They do not give you single cube large ice. That means whoever runs this bar has no idea what they're doing and they think that crushed ice or small ice in an old fashioned is good. It's not. When you put small ice cubes in an old fashioned it waters down the drink and you have to drink it very fast. My litmus test for any nice bar is that they have large single ice cubes. It's a rookie move and it seriously takes away from legitimacy of the fancy bar. read more

Nice hotel centered in the medical district in Seattle. Beautiful old dark wood bar, restaurant, and Fireside Room. It's 115 years old and some things show wear, the floors are thin, and the windows have no noise cancelling. Dog friendly is a plus. Staff were efficient. But after I got the final bill I was saddened and will have to cross this hotel off future visits. They will absolutely nickel and dime you to death here. There is an unexplained "Facility Fee" that comes with its own 10.35% tax, as does their discounted $40 per night parking fee. Perhaps the facility fee is for all the noise, ambulance sirens, and hospital staff honking their cars to lock them at 6AM to make you feel that you are truly in the heart of Seattle. Limited menu and don't come here to drink unless you recently came into a lot of money. read more

This review is for Sorrento's brunch with live jazz and yoga on weekends. I have to say I was impressed by the concept of community yoga (free) and a classy brunch with a live singer to follow. Plenty of street parking, the hotel itself is beautiful and historic. They did a fabulous job preserving the old-time charm while adding some whimsy to the rooms (think monkey wallpaper). The yoga instructor was amazing however there were probably 50+ people squeezing into the room, literally mat to mat. We must have exceeded the capacity for sure. Brunch was lovely, the singer was super talented. Food was alright - my avocado toast was covered in some type of musty spread under the avocado and the bread was so crusty it couldn't be cut with a knife. Service was excellent read more

Location: 10 minute walking distance to the lively shops and restaurants in Capitol Hill neighborhood. 10 min walking down the hill to Westlake Center, the convention center, downtown. 20 minute walk to waterfront and Pike Market. The walk is pleasant, the neighborhood is old - brick hotels and apartment buildings, Victorian homes, and newer condo buildings. It's adjacent to a hospital with an Emergency room. From my room which was street facing at the front of the hotel, I heard ambulances only pass twice in my 2 night stay. But with the windows closed it wasn't bad. If you're a light sleeper, I'd suggest requesting a room not facing the front of the hotel. Hotel vibe: this boutique hotel building is over a hundred years old and has a traditional east coast vintage feel. A lot of dark wood, dimly lit, velvet upholstered arm chairs, a small elevator etc. I loved the traditional aesthetics. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful. However the desk did not ask me if I needed assistance with my bags to my room upon check in. Room: I got a great room, very clean, cozy and spacious enough Room with Queen bed. However, I had to tolerate a musty smell in the room that just had this "old" hotel smell. It went away after I aired the room out by opening the windows. However at night I had to close the windows to keep the ambient street noise out. If it's the carpeting, it needs to be addressed. I couldn't detect it after being in the room for some time, but each time I would return to the room, I'd smell it and it bothered me. I think this is why I give it 4 stars rather than 5. Amenities: complimentary wine at the lounge during happy hour, WiFi, free yoga class on Sundays, fitness room, massage available by appointment.
