We had the most wonderful experience having our wedding at Cathedral Ballard! The space was incredibly bright due to the huge windows, the exposed brick was lovely, and the candles were stunning. This venue is exceptional for so many reasons: not only is it a non-profit venue, but they light over 100 candles for your event and provide so many things that you would typically need to rent at other venues (chairs, tables, glassware, etc.). Also there are so many things for your guests to do in downtown Ballard if your wedding is mainly out-of-town guests like ours was. Nate and the team were so kind and thoughtful throughout the entire process. Came here for an event being thrown by a local business - Papa Chango for their anniversary. Cathedral is an event space so you can have wedding receptions, local art showing, VIP party and more. There is a ground level and an upstairs. Upon coming in staff greeted us and informed us of the going-Ons upstairs. There were 3 bartenders all of whom were very nice. Lots of seating and small music and dancing area. The food was self-serve, buffet style, catered La Cabana. The salsa and guac were good and was nicely laid out. Cathedral donates much of the earnings made from the use of the space and are also known for their candles which I've received as a gift and can say are nicely scented and benefit causes. So, if you see one in a local shop or otherwise it makes a good gift. Not sure they sell them at this actual location of Cathedral though. If you 're looking to host an event or know someone who wants to, Cathedral has a decent space to be rented out with nice staff who will help manage it. read more

The space itself is lovely and versatile, providing a unique value proposition for the size of space and delivering on quality across the board. Liz and Nate were very helpful throughout the evaluation and planning process and Shane was a terrific day of partner in helping put on our party. It's also great to work with folks dedicated to the community in such a tangible way (they are a nonprofit and support other similar organizations as well). We hosted a college reception here and it is such a cute establishment. Our nametag/swag table was on the ground floor along with a coat rack so guests can hang their outerwear. The reception was on the second floor (keep in mind there is a flight of stairs and no elevator). Our guests had such a great time mingling with one another. The staff was great. Shout out to Liz and Nate for putting this together for us. I was told parking is a bit tricky but there are multiple lots in the surrounding area if you're willing to walk a little. I'd definitely recommend Cathedral to those who need an event space. I will definitely keep Cathedral in mind for future events. read more

We had the BEST experience working with Nate and his team at Cathedral for our wedding. We were one of those COVID weddings that was scheduled for May 2020, and Nate was super communicative and clear with us as we navigated rescheduling 3 times and varying public health guidance. They also took our COVID precautions very seriously and no one as a result got COVID from our wedding - a huge win all around! In the end, we could not have asked for a better experience when we finally had our wedding in May 2021! Once things settled and we were able to truly start planning our event, Nate and his team were so responsive and communicative to us and our day of coordinator about all the details. We got to go in multiple times to the space and talk through details with Nate and his staff. We loved how much flexibility there was to bring our own food, drinks and decor (though the space was so gorgeous especially with all the candles, that we didn't need to do much). The wedding ended up being absolutely perfect, in large part to how well Cathedral staff worked with our vendors and day of coordinator to pull everything off - we didn't end up worrying about anything! On top of all this, Cathedral's mission is really wonderful and it was so special to find a venue whose values also matched our own as a couple. We ended up with about 50 guests and it was the absolute perfect size and space - not too crowded, still felt like a party and had room for an epic buffet from Buddha Bruddah, mini cheesecakes and Ube cookies from Hood Famous and a raucous dance floor. After touring several venues for our wedding, my now-husband and I knew we'd found the right place after we saw Cathedral and spoke with Nate Stone. From the beginning, Nate was incredibly friendly, laid-back, communicative and helpful. Anything we needed, whether it was floor plans or recommendations for vendors, Nate was there to help. Cathedral was a beautiful backdrop for our intimate wedding - you don't need much to really bring the brick and wood to life! We had about 50 people for our wedding, and it felt cozy but not cramped. The best part about booking Cathedral for your event, though, is their mission. Cathedral is a nonprofit enterprise that uses the funds earned through rentals to invest in at-risk youth, offering them jobs and life-coaching while teaching them how to make the beautiful candles they sell. This fantastic location in Ballard was perfect for my 60th birthday celebration. The space is gorgeous on it's own, we didn't bring any additional decorations. Nate was very responsive to all of our questions and gave me some great advice on which space in the venue would be most appropriate for our party. Cathedral is a vibe. The space was perfect for my corporate event. It was unique, contemporary and flexible. We brought our own catering in, which was a major plus since we wanted to support Women/Minority-owned business for that part of the event. What I like about Cathedral is they let you come through before your event and troubleshoot any technical issues you could run into before your event. AMAZING! There are a million reasons to love this venue! We had our wedding reception on a Saturday, and had the venue from 9am to midnight for 1/3 of what any comparable venue in Seattle rents for. We were able to use our own vendors... not required to use ones the venue favors. The architectural design is amazing, and it has all the features one could need in the kitchen and bars, provides tables, linens and glassware. They light over 100 candles and the ambiance is fabulous. The staff is so helpful and agreeable and make the whole process really easy. It's in the heart of Ballard and there are awesome shops and restaurants, plus so many great places to take pictures. Even parking was easier than so many other places in Seattle. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how perfect it was. Best of all, the venue is a charity to help underserved youth, so you can have the event of your dreams AND help change lives for the better! read more

In my humble opinion, Cathedral is Ballard's best-kept secret. But I don't anticipate that lasting for long. It's a gorgeous space, ready for your next event. There is exposed brick, two story-space, plenty of natural light upstairs, and an incredibly convenient location in Ballard. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was. Beyond the features and amenities, the Cathedral staff I worked with was incredibly helpful. Nate was straightforward and prompt in answering all of our questions before the event. Day-of, he was available, helpful, adaptable, and quick to jump in. He made our jobs SO easy. We had our wedding here in August and could not have been more happy with our experience. Nate and his team went above and beyond to keep us in the loop with every up and down, twist and turn happening due to covid, was responsive to every message, and talked us down from the proverbial ledge more than once! We are so thankful for his support. The venue itself is gorgeous, and right in the middle of downtown Ballard- so picturesque. Nate and his staff lit hundreds of candles all over the space for us and it was magical. He worked with all our vendors both ahead of time and on the day of the wedding, helped us figure out sound system questions (side note: amazing built in sound system!) and let us access the space before the wedding numerous times when we were trying to get logistics figured out. He jumped in at the end to help us get stuff out of the space and even let us leave our kegs in their back fridge for a few days so we could figure out pickup! (THANK YOU!!) We brought in outside catering and it was so easy for them- bars were ready to go, lots of space and options for food setup... again, so many details that could have been complicated, but weren't because of the attention and preparedness of the venue. Also, they donate their profits to charity and you get to pick the charity!! Amazing. This place is a gem. If you're on the fence about having an event here, just do it. You won't be sorry. After our wedding our friends have been trying to figure out a way to rent the space once a year for a party, just because. That's how great it was and how much fun we had! Thank you, Nate and team. The venue is fully stocked with tables, tons of seating, two bars with taps and beverage refrigerators, a commercial kitchen, and glassware. The team we worked with (Nate, Liz, and Shane) were wonderful and experienced. We appreciated their wisdom (use their recommended bartenders, it will make everyone's life easier) and were really organized with guidelines/recommendations for vendors and set up/take down. Threw a 50th birthday party here for my wife. It's a great location and fairly large. Stylish and laid out well for a large gathering - I think you could have over 100 people spread across the two floors. Communicating with the venue management and getting the location booked was extremely easy. When asked, they provided a list of preferred vendors that we used and were really satisfied with the results. As for the event space itself, the setup is amazing for a party. Having a bar upstairs and downstairs was a game changer. The kitchen allows for great catering. The floor plan is perfect for entertaining, there is plenty of space to walk around, dance, stand and chat as well as plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a meal! Fantastic venue for our daughter's post-wedding brunch. Great layout with bar upstairs and down. Plenty of seating and space for food and guests. We had about 90 people and it was very spacious. Good acoustics too. Easy to hear conversations with an easy hookup for our iPhone playlist for background music. Clean and tidy, too! We had consistently prompt responses to our questions and communication was excellent with Nate Stone, the proprietor. He has a comprehensive website which answers most questions too. Awesome venue! I attended their launch party as well as a World Cup viewing party and it was so cool to see this space from a new perspective. I had been to this location several times when it was a bar (when I was young and cool), but it is awesome to see the space opened up for a variety of uses. I also love their heart for giving back to the community. The staff are pouring themselves into making this a meaningful venture and you can sense that if you get a chance to interact with them. Not only is the venue gorgeous, the rustic yet chic modern feel automatically grasps your attention as you enter the building! Nate was very welcoming, prompt and attentive to all my questions and concerns which made planning very seamless. We hosted our Indian wedding celebration at Cathedral on a Friday evening. We had a fantastic event with around 100 people, in a "cocktail party" format. A few things attracted us to Cathedral - the ambiance of the building, the location, the kind staff and the fact that it was handicap accessible. Our friends and family had so much fun at our event, it was really easy to set up a buffet, do some dancing and mingle with each of our guests. We threw an anniversary party here and it was the perfect venue! The staff is incredibly friendly and easy to work with. The venue is super flexible about vendors (one of the few in town), and has some affordable and great vendors to recommend who are familiar with their venue, which helped things run really smoothly the night-of. This place is also gorgeous, with exposed brick, beautiful decor, and of course their signature candles lit all over the venue (many of our guests commented on how cool the space was). The fact that there are multiple floors gave our guests space to cozy up with their friends downstairs, or be partying it up on the dance floor upstairs. The venue has everything you could possibly need for bar service and catering, including a full professional kitchen. Cathedral is a beautiful venue that was the perfect place to host a wedding rehearsal dinner followed by welcome drinks. We used the upstairs for a seated dinner for 40+ guests followed by a total of 120+ guests utilizing both floors over the course of the evening. Two bars, two TVs and a sound system, plus a great prep kitchen for our caterer made for a smooth transition between our two events. Nate was so prompt in answering all my questions, as well as working with all the vendors. Liz, our night of event coordinator, was great in taking care of the behind the scenes details. Their staff lit over 100 candles adding to the existing beauty of the historic building. All the planning was long distance, via email, and with Nate's help it was flawless. Gorgeous venue, was perfect for my graduation event. The layout is awesome with a bar on each of the two floors and the decor is really nice. Really not much you have to do to dress the place up. The best part of renting this venue is the host, Nate, who will help you get set up and make sure your party is everything you want it to be. The Cathedral is just starting out and my experience with them is that they are not a solid organization. I had toured the venue - really nice but a fair number of stairs and no elevator - for a birthday party. (When I mentioned how great it was that they donate their fee to charity, he said well, they are just getting started so not all of it. A bit deceptive from what the website says.) I let Nate, my guide, know via email that I did want to book and asked about the deposit. He got back to me a couple of days later with "the proposal." This was right around the 4th of July which is a pretty busy holiday. I noted on the proposal that the deposit was due on the 6th of July. I had company, got busy and then on the 5th, Nate cheerfully asked me if I still wanted the venue as he had someone else. This was late in the day. At 7 am on July 6th I emailed him, explaining about the holiday and said I was sending the deposit. I did, just a couple of hours later. Nate then calls and says he gave my date away because the new people gave him a check. I said but your email didn't say "We need the deposit by end of business today" which was the 5th AND anyway the proposal said July 6th. He said, "Sorry" but he felt like he hadn't heard from me so he gave it away. I tried to ask him why he would do that but he just kept saying sorry and seemed unhappy that I was unhappy. He also told me he was just a volunteer. Look, this was for a birthday party so not the end of the world. But what if it were your wedding? Because the proposal sent to you by the business had a specific date that the deposit was due and you sent it by that date and then, the bottom drops out because they changed their minds. I would steer clear of The Cathedral until they get better at this. Because what they tell you and what they do are two different things. Nice people, bad management and for a big event like a wedding, you don't need that worry. read more

Although the event we were planning ended up exceeding Cathedral's capacity and we ended up having to hold it elsewhere, the level of service we received ended up being so great that I felt compelled to write this review. This venue is gorgeous and the level of care and service you receive throughout the planning process is unrivaled. Nate went out of his way to be transparent and communicative and it is so clear that the philanthropic aspect of this venue is very important to him, which is really special. If a friend ever wanted to hold an event, I would not hesitate to suggest Cathedral. I hope to have an event someday in the future that suits this venue! read more
