One of the most important things for us was finding a venue "that had a space for everyone" and that's EXACTLY what the Foundry provides. You wanna dance? It's an AWESOME dance floor. Need a breather? Check out the courtyard or the rooftop. Want to be involved but just watch? There are various side-rooms and balconies to check out the action. Of course, another huge pro is that catering is provided in-house, so it made that part of the process so much easier. We also used their list of recommended vendors, all of whom are familiar with the space, and it made set-up on the day of the event an absolute breeze. We do need to respectfully acknowledge that communication with the venue was... a little suspect at times. They experienced a lot of turnover over the past year (as well as some pricing changes), and while we were ultimately very happy with our experience, we hope they can get back to some consistency so that all couples and events get a smooth experience! (A special shoutout to Brittany who stepped in for our last month and really brought things home for us, thanks friend!!) Many other local lodges also use this building for their meetings. The building is available to rent for weddings, receptions, classes, and other community activities. Rental spaces include a 1500 ft sq. dining area complete with a commercial kitchen. Upstairs the lodge's 2000 ft. sq. meeting room is also available for use. The decor is staid, but very user friendly. It's also handicapped accessable. One of the many lodges that meets here is St. Johns' #9 which has been working in Seattle since 1860. You'll find they're often in the background of such events as the Freemont fair, Seattle Youth symphony, Dr. Maynard's grave restoration, elementary school reading programs and a small project long ago... the location of the University of Washington here in Seattle. (The four columns by the HUB were carved by one of the brothers around 1869 - a guy named Denny.) Probably the most enjoyable and entertaining lodge that meets at Greenwood is Daylight Lodge 232. A lodge formed for entertainers and others who worked nights. They've been meeting in Seattle since 1920 and are still centered around the arts community. Our biggest uncertainty beforehand was how much, if any, parking was available. It turns out that they have access to a garage behind the mansion, and there was a person welcoming us at the entry to the garage, giving us instructions on getting to the pedestrian entrance and a sheet of paper with the code for the lock. The exit door could have been better labelled, but that was the only glitch. The venue itself is lovely, looking very much like I imagine it did when it was built in the early 20th century. The caterers were amazingly efficient, both in serving drinks and hot appetizers on the veranda, and in reconfiguring the main room from the ceremony to a sit-down dinner while drinks were being served. This was a great location, enhanced by caterers who clearly knew what they were doing.

The entire property, and especially the barn, was flawless on the day of our wedding and there were so many gorgeous photo opportunities it was difficult to take advantage of them all. The farmhouse, cellar and tree house were perfect hangouts for us and our wedding party during the day, and many of my guests enjoyed exploring the beautiful grounds while taking a break from dancing. Whereas other venues had hidden fees and added costs, Wine and Roses provided all of the tables, chairs, facilities and transitions we needed, even going out of their way to request that draperies hung for another event the weekend before remain up for us to use free of charge. Johanna, the venue owner, was professional, flexible and easy to work with both leading up to and on the day of our wedding. Rather than see us as just another business arrangement at the tail end of her busiest season, Johanna demonstrated true commitment to making our day special, seamless and fun. Johanna was also able to provide some great recommendations and reviews as we selected our other vendors, which helped us put together a great team of experienced professionals for the day. Melissa, the venue coordinator, was responsive to all of our questions leading up to the big day, even going so far as to help us find ways to trim the budget without sacrificing the important details and special touches. For larger events, I would definitely recommend using Melissa's Jubilee Weddings services for set up and take down. For a very small charge, all set up, preparation and take-down was taken care of on the day of the wedding, giving my family and friends more time to simply enjoy the day. While I was at first concerned to learn that Melissa could not be on-site for our wedding day, she was careful to communicate all details to the day-of coordinator, Leslie, who did a fantastic job at implementing our vision and keeping the day on-schedule. Even our complicated centerpieces were set up perfectly and packed up carefully at the end of the night. While I'm confident that our wedding day would have been memorable regardless of the venue, the staff at Wine and Roses truly made the day's logistics run smoothly, always with our vision and our guests' comfort in mind, which allowed us to relax, focus on the moment and enjoy the day!

The building is shared with The Upper Crust Catering, which has its own page on Yelp. The first floor of the building is the catering kitchen and the second floor is the event space. This is from the perspective of someone who attended an event there, but wasn't involved with any of the planning or coordination, so I can't speak to that aspect. I enjoyed the feel of the space. It is a building from the 1920s and has a sort of "classic ballroom" type of feeling, classy without being pretentious or trendy. I liked that the restrooms were right off the main dining area and didn't require a long trek to find. It's a good medium-sized space, not tiny but not huge either. There's a little side room where the food is served out of, and an open dance floor space towards the back of the room. At this event, catering was provided by Upper Crust and it was a vegan dinner. The food was flavorful and filling; I enjoyed it despite not being vegetarian or vegan. It was served buffet style and there were a number of options, including quinoa pilaf, pad thai, a potato dish with a vegan roast, watermelon with balsamic dressing, a salad with crispy noodles, and possibly one or two other things that I am forgetting. Instead of cake, they opted to have peanut butter and jelly bars for dessert that had a sort of crumble topping. I think the quinoa was my favorite. Overall, I would recommend the space UNLESS you need a wheelchair accessible venue. Being an older building, it doesn't conform to today's accessibility standards. There's no elevator to the second floor, and the restroom is very tiny and I don't think a wheelchair could fit in there. Also, if you want your event catered, you will need to use Upper Crust since the building is owned by them and they have an exclusive partnership, so it's probably not the best choice if you have your heart set on a different caterer.
