I am woking close by and it is my second time to be in this establishment. I am talking specifically about bar at right side of main entrance. I can't find words to describe my experience about this place. TERRIBLE is not good enough word. When I walk in here where were to drinks chicks at the bar, flirting with bartender Tray (I hope I properly wrote his name). I was waiting for my friend there and I ordered "dirty bird. Service was slow, here was not attentive at all. I guessed distracted by girls he never mentioned what time is kitchen close. After 5min of ordering I said I would like to put one more order for food, for my friend. He said kitchen is closed. He never mentioned it before. Stayed here to celebrate my boyfriends 25th birthday. We were able to use the epic rooftop to enjoy a few drinks and cake before heading out. Loved the vibe, but there is a cake cutting fee per person! Keep that in mind. Will visit again :) read more

As the closest watering hole to the State Department, this is a popular happy hour location. However, our rooftop farewell party did not end well when I was charged $32 for two "$12" frozen drinks. The Hive adds to this a (nondisclosed) 20% gratuity and 10% tax. So always be sure to tap "0 tip" when you pay for your drink. I will be vetoing any future office parties at the Hive. read more

Hotel Hive is a very simple, minimal, and trendy hotel with everything practical that you could need during your hotel stay. The rooms are small and beautiful. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The price is right. The location is in Foggy Bottom which the main attraction is GWU, but walking distance to many tourist spots including DTDC, National Mall, Georgetown, etc. I would definitely stay here again! read more

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Hive. It is definitely different than staying at your conventional hotel. While the rooms are small, the hotel tries to make the most of the small room. My room was provided with 4 hangers on our little retractable pole. We had a under the bed storage space to place essentials in. A desk, lamp, T.V. and a single drawer next to the bed was provided. Also had a drawer ( which contained the dryer in a nice white cloth bag) underneath the sink which is separate from the toilet/shower room. Appreciated the slide doors for the bathroom but did not appreciate how small the bathroom was. It was very awkward trying to wash all the knooks and crannies without having to flatten myself on a wall to reach them. The bathroom had lotion, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. They were provided from dispensers which kind of freaked me out because that means they basically just refill the bottle after multiple ppl use them....yeah I don't trust that. They did mention they are a green hotel so undertstandable. I used my own products. With that being said they do not provide fresh towels or change the bed linen during your stay unless u request it. They will take out the trash and make the bed but u have to request the rest. So place towels on the floor if u are finished with them and call the front desk for new sheets.....yeah i called the front desk for those new sheets because i spilled a few pizza flakes on the sheets. I came back to the same sheets -_- but they were nicely folded and i did get fresh towels. The pizza place connected to the hotel was decent but really small, really wish it was a dine in place instead. Kind of weird they have a well lit pizza place on the left of the hotel and a kind of swanky bar on the right side. I wish they joined the two ideas better. I also didn't like that the hotel restaurant closes at a certain hour especially since my floor did not have a ice machine or vending machine....sigh. So if u wake up in the middle of the night with the munchies or thirsty then u will be have to put in the leg work. The view from the window was nice and i did enjoy the inspirational quotes that was around the room. I also like the art work that was displayed on the walls of the elevator. I liked the bee theme and the colors used. The check in and check out are smooth. They check your credit card and id and give u the keys to your room. The card system is nice as well, you use it to enter the elevator and take it to your floor. You also use it to move through various doors to get to your room. I felt I was apart of the CIA but overall liked the extra layer of protection it provided. Check out can be done on your phone and you are emailed to remind u of check out time. The hotel doesn't have a business center either but staff are very helpful and will print or fax things for u at no additional cost. They also call to check in on you after u check in which was really appreciated. Overall I miss the perks of staying at a bigger hotel. For the price I paid for a last minute reservation during the time of my visit the cost was good but I think I would enjoy being at another hotel for future visits. I think this hotel is good for budget travellers who will not be in their hotels for long and aren't looking for comfort. I would be more open to this hotel in the summer as opposed to the winter (when u honestly don't want to leave your room for anything and room service is your best friend). read more

Took us an hour to get our change for 2 drinks while we were basically the only customers here on Monday afternoon at 3:30pm... They don't even have a full bar on the rooftop so not sure what was taking so long... the frozen margarita was at least pretty strong. read more

When plans to stay with a friend fell through at the last minute, my fiancé and I found ourselves scrambling to find a place to stay in Washington D.C. After a little research online, I stumbled upon Hotel Hive, Washington D.C.'s first microhotel. Housed in a 116 year-old building, the hotel was designed with a focus on sustainability and with a playful, modern aesthetic. Oh, and did I mention it's rooftop bar serves frosé? The staff could have not been more friendly and accommodating, and the rooms, while small, were clean and very comfortable. I expect the hive hotel to be one of the best on more than 300$ plus a night .. butwe got disappointed bec as soon as we came in to check in , the hotellooks really great in fairness ... but first , there is no airconditioning in the lobby , everybody was feeling so hot and only 1 front desk guy is helping everybody and this is end of sept already .. if i book there in summer , .. how can you relax in their lobby when it is so hot.. why not put decorative ceiling fan or put an air conditioner.. why let your guests suffer .. well breakfast is good.. snd even our room is not even so cold .. it's clean hotel but i want comfort when i stay in a hotel .. some hotels that are near the place charge us 175$ total and i rate them 5 stars ... the one i am reviewing is the hive hotel in Rome Italy read more

I love this hotel and would absolutely stay there again should I ever go back to DC. I stayed here for 5 nights in a loft queen. It was tiny but perfect for one person. Smartly decorated, clean, and had everything I needed. Very comfy bed. Location was super convenient to GWU and lots of things within walking distance (the National Mall was only a few blocks away). Very friendly staff who were always asking me how I was enjoying my stay. My room was on the 5th floor and I never heard the bar downstairs. It was perfectly quiet. EXCEPT the one night that the fire alarm went off 3 times in the middle of the night due to a malfunction. It was horrible, but it was not the hotel's fault. They were extremely apologetic and gave everyone a discount on the room, free coffee, and a free drink at the rooftop bar. Another reviewer mentioned not being allowed to bring food to the room, but I never had that problem. I brought pizza up there twice. It was delicious, by the way, and I was so grateful that it was there after a really long day when I didn't want to make a trip out to get dinner. I also enjoyed the breakfast Kolaches, although $6 is pretty steep for one Kolache. The only thing they didn't have that I wished they had was an ice machine. I either had to call them to bring ice up to my room, or go down to the pizza place and ask for a cup for ice. I feel like I can't give 5 stars only because of the fire alarm situation, because it was kind of traumatic to be woken up like that, but again, it wasn't their fault and they did their best to rectify it. Very clean and comfortable. If I had to make a recommendation to ownership it would be to offer more dining options @ your bar/restaurant other than pizza. You CAN'T bring food to your room, they will stop you in the lobby and tell you that no food is allowed in the rooms. You CAN'T smoke cigarettes at the outside rooftop pool. When you walk in the hotel it's ALWAYS CROWDED like walking into a club, because they got a bar on one side and pizza place on the other side and then there is the lobby. Then after a certain time of the night, when you get to the hotel you can't just get in, you have to be buzzed in. The rooms are REALLY REALLY SMALL! My experience was not pleasant! read more

As a whole it is a very clean and beautiful hotel. If you are wanting to eat a healthy quick pizza &pizza is very good...assuming there is not 30 people in line like my wife and I ran into every time we went to eat there. If you are wanting a place to stay Hive Hotel is not my favorite place I have stayed at. I'll start by saying they have no hotel parking. You have to park two blocks away and spend $24 a day there not included for hotel stay. When you walk to the hotel from there you have to keep in mind that hotel hive is right next to the George Washington college. There are college kids everywhere. It reeks of weed outside walking from the garage. In the front of hotel hive on the walk from the garage you have to pass homeless tents that are on the sidewalk. They had dirty diapers laying outside of the tents and would try to stop you to ask for money as you were walking to the entrance. Next you have to keep in mind that directly next to the hotel there is multiple frat houses. All night Friday there was kids partying and frat shenanigans that could be seen simply walking out the door. I went for a walk to the monument's last night and when I came back there was very drunk people at the entrance to hotel hive yelling and guys trying to kiss on the guests that were sitting outside. Not a good look it was super uncomfortable and upsetting seeing this. Now the last thing I am going to say is how upset my wife and I were today. We were excited to sit upstairs in the rooftop bar to eat and have a couple drinks. Well the bartender told us we weren't aloud to stay and eat up there due to a party they were holding. All the kids up there were college kids from the frats hitting on girls and doing their thing. Nothing wrong with that EXCEPT the fact that we paid more than 600 dollars including parking to spend three nights there and they wouldn't even let us use the upstairs. We came to the downstairs bar and got an abrasive welcome from the bartender because we had baught pizza and had them in the to go boxes they gave us. I feel like they DO NOT treat their guests very well especially if you are in your 20s they will just assume your in college. I'm active duty military here on vacation and did not appreciate my stay and the lack of respect that they gave me while staying here. read more

I stayed here a year ago and it was great. So much so when I was recently in D.C. it was my hotel of choice. What an error. As a regular business traveler, a decent hotel breakfast is minimum standard expectation, right? Not here it seems. Skanky heat lamp warmed ham/cheese croissants, or kolaches are all that are on offer. Unable to charge to your room. This is a nice little hotel and in close proximity to the office I often travel to for work. Hotel prices in DC can be range from pricey to exorbitant, so I was happy to find something within easy walking distance to all my travel needs that wasn't crazy expensive (by DC standards). While the rooms are small they are well designed with outlets, ledges, under bed storage, etc. right where you need them. My room had 2 succulents as well which made it so much nicer to have a little life in my room. I've already booked another stay here. However, this hotel is noisy. Between the bar and pizza place on the 2nd floor, the rooftop bar, the street noise, and the super squeaky-creaky bed frame it's not the quietest place to stay. Luckily DC isn't a 24-hr city and a pair of earplugs will do the trick. read more

I absolutely loved my stay at Hotel Hive. I needed a convenient place for a quick weekend getaway, and am so happy I found this gem! It's close to major DC sites and literally right next to GW University campus. It is a micro hotel, so the rooms are small! With that said, I felt comfortable and at home due to the friendly staff, cleanliness, and fun atmosphere in the lobby! This place has always been on my DC bucket list. The weird thing was that you have to swipe in to enter. So not sure if you even enter if you're not staying here. I was drawn to the fact that the have a partnership with & pizza but turns out the establishment is just their next door neighbor. Views were fine, nice atmosphere on the rooftop. The hotel is fine, small but clean, but I don't know what's going on with the staff. I asked for an early check in about a month in advance and they somehow couldn't get me in until AFTER the regular check in time of 3pm (note that check out is 11AM so they had 4 hours to get my room ready and must have saved it for last). They did offer to hold my stuff for me, but I later found out that they kept it in a stairwell because it was "too big," and I just hope that nothing was stolen as it was left in this public space unattended for an hour. I had to leave my prior living arrangement at 2, so I waited on a bench in the city with all of my other belongings for that hour in the heat. The week I stayed was fine, but I got a text at noon the day before my check out to inform me that the entire street in front of the hotel would be blocked off for construction. I was in intern housing from June until the beginning of August, so I chose this place to save money for the last week of my internship. If I had known that check in and check out were both going to be such nightmares I would have never gone with this option, no matter how much money it saved me. I'm coming from living in a literal dorm so my expectations for hospitality were super low-- all I wanted was a smooth check in and check out and that's it. It's like they tried to make things difficult. I've never left a yelp review for a hotel but I've never had an experience like this anywhere else, super unprofessional. If you aren't flexible with check in and check out times do not stay here because they can't keep a schedule or communicate. read more

Ubered from my office only to find out they lost my reservation, wouldn't give me a room, made me wait 20 minutes only to find out they were trying to rebook me at an inferior hotel. No recourse aside from refunding me for the room they didn't have and shrugging it off. No offer from hotels tonight to pay my out of pocket fees from going to this hotel then having to go cross town to get another hotel. And to top it off I missed the dinner I got the hotel for in the first place. From the lobby it looked like a cool hotel but I will never ever return nor will I use Hotels Tonight to book. read more

This was my Fiancé and I's second time saying here and we never have any complaints. The front desk staff is always super nice and helpful, the rooms are super clean and well kept, and the bed and sheets are super comfortable and soft. The rooftop bar is always a great stop as well, when the weather allows it. Another bonus, this hotel is close to all major monuments and tourist hot spots. Parking is a little tricky but read their website about the parking and get the pass and you'll be fine. Overall highly recommend hive hotel. read more

This hotel is so cute! Be aware that it is a micro/compact hotel so the rooms are teeny tiny, but in a city like D.C. you won't spend too much time in the room anyway. The walls are kind of thin though.... I was able to hear my neighbor moaning very clearly in the middle of the night. This hotel is about a 30-35 minute walk from the National Mall & all the museums which was wonderful. The staff is very friendly and has good recommendations for places to visit. One staff member asked what we would like for breakfast (pancakes) & after checking to see that they were open sent us over to the Founding Farmers restaurant which was delicious!! This place is certainly cool--there's no doubt about that. The decor is awesome, the restaurant and bar downstairs are incredible. The check-in concierge was helpful and kind. But... I ended up in a room basically the size of a closet with a bunkbed stuffed into a corner. For the price of the room, I could've easily stayed at the Kimpton Palomar and enjoyed the ability to open my suitcase fully or extend my arms from side to side. For some, the location my be the prime consideration. If that's the case, this is a good place to stay. If, however, you're looking for something moderately comfortable, look elsewhere--you'll find it much cheaper. read more

Good price, and greater service! You have to understand that this is a "micro hotel" and that it has smaller rooms. Besides that, the rooms actually feel quite accommodating. It's like the size of a normal bedroom. The staff however, are absolutely amazing! My fiance and I are both the kind of people that have to have a fan in order to sleep. When I called down to the desk to ask about one, Liz went out of her way, and contacted other properties to get us a fan, and even brought it up to our room. This place is extremely popular with the younger crowds, as it has a &Pizza, and both a lobby and rooftop bar, that are packed during opening hours. It provides for a hip atmosphere that is easy to escape, by slipping away into your room. I recommend staying here! read more

I was trying to save a little money during a wedding weekend, and while the rooms are small (it's a micro-hotel), the amenities aren't skimpy. You get your own bathroom (I'm weird about sharing), the staff are all super young and friendly, and there is a cool bar and pizza place downstairs. Stayed at hotel Hive twice & I enjoyed my stay both times. The second time I had a major problem after I left that ruined my whole experience there & why I won't be back there again. They charged my girls card twice after our stay. Then when she asked the hotel about the constant charges they referred us to the accountant. A-OK seems fair. The service is very friendly. It's a micro-hotel and they'll keep letting you know that very fact and not go into detail outside of that. In all fairness, I didn't ask. I think it's just a more millennial way of saying they're a boutique hotel. The rooms are def micro though, but they're cutesy. There's a bee-theme and they stick to it with the mirrors and color scheme. It's actually kinda funny. Speaking of mirrors, the one in my room had "you're perfect" written on it, so it was good for selfies. The air conditioning was easy to maneuver which was good because DC was really unreasonably hot and sweaty. The room itself wasn't spotless but it was good enough for my purposes. It's inexpensive. Stayed here this past December and it exceeded our expectations. The rooms are small but not too small where you feel cramped in the least bit. The customer service was amazing and the rooms where super clean. I especially loved that they kept up the whole hive theme throughout their decorations everywhere. During one of the days we stayed there it was pouring and the hotel gave us complimentary umbrellas to use; you would simply sign them out before taking them and at the end of the day you would bring them back and sign them back in once you were done. The location is also ideal since it is in walking distance from the Lincoln Memorial and other great spots. Overall it was a great experience and would definitely recommend. read more

My wife and I have stayed at times in a larger room on an upper floor and a "Buzz Room" in the "basement". Our experience was the same. As many have mentioned the associates are awesome but that is only the beginning. The location can't be beat. The building is gorgeous. The vibe puts a smile on your face the second you walk in. The fact that the prices have remained reasonable since they have become increasingly popular is a plus. We look forward to our visit this coming October. read more
