Lobby motivational sign
Hui L.

I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay at during a short trip to DC. After doing a lot of research trying to find a hotel that wasn't outrageously overpriced, I found Hotel Hive. The rooms were bigger than a capsule hotel but smaller than an actual hotel room so not that much space but I was out most of the day so it was the perfect spot to stay at. It was conveniently located about 3 blocks away from Foggy Bottom station and serviced by 3 lines on the Metro. I was worried about the walk but it was actually super safe since it's right by George Washington University's campus so most of the time there were also students walking around. The welcome signage board in the lobby is pretty neat, besides saying the default welcome to the hotel message. It also frequently displayed inspirational quotes from famous people throughout the day. The hotel staff managed to get our room ready for us before check in which was super convenient. Only one elevator that was a bit slow and small but hey it worked. The elevator walls were glass so it felt less claustrophobic and there was interesting artwork on the walls. During this stay, we stayed in the twin loft room on the 5th floor. Hallway lights were a bit dim for me. We were able to ask the front desk for a mini fridge which took a day to get cold. Overall the room was pretty clean and decently maintained. A few areas of improvement would be maybe air freshener for the bathroom (it had a musty smell which needed the window to be opened to air out) and there seemed to be a lot of rust on the metal parts around the room. The mattresses on the bunkbeds were pretty soft and the pillows were quite fluffy. I liked that there was a TV for each bunk too. I just wished there was a channel guide so I could know what I was watching rather than randomly scroll through channels. One thing about the bunkbed is that the ladder was not the easiest thing to use to get to the top bunk. It would be nice if the steps were wider so that I didn't feel like I was about to fall off every time I had to climb down. There was a bluetooth radio speaker in our room which was pretty nice because I feel like a lot of hotel rooms don't offer an amenity like this. Other than a desk and chair there wasn't really much storage but that's a given since this is a micro hotel. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion were available in the shower as well as plenty of towels. FYI if you get dinner from &pizza, the first floor dining area to the side was only for dine in at that restaurant (I guess?). Luckily we were able to eat on the rooftop once it opened at 3. The weather was a bit chilly at night time but there were overhead heaters and lit fires to keep me warm. The bartender was even nice enough to give us cups of water. There were 2 bathrooms on the rooftop and both were pretty clean. I looked out from the corner and was able to see the Lincoln Memorial down the block. Check out was a breeze and the hotel staff were frequently checking in with us to see how things were going or if there was anything we needed help with. On the day of check out, we wanted to explore the city some more so we were able to leave our suitcases with the front desk for pick up later. It looked like they keep the luggages either at the front desk or downstairs so I knew my stuff would be secure. Definitely a great place to stay in DC!

A cute hotel with tiny yet functional rooms. I booked this hotel last minute and it was the only room available on a busy graduation weekend. I enjoyed my short stay there. It had everything that I needed and was surprisingly so comfortable. The hotel serves breakfast in the morning and there is a restaurant right next door that you can access through the lobby. I recommend this if you are on a quick solo trip in DC and you want to be within walking distance from all the monuments and museums.

First time at a micro hotel. I was surprised but not disappointed. When they say micro they mean it! Pros: -Meter parking right outside the hotel. If you don't want to pay $25 every time you get your car out the lot. We actually saved money the two nights we were here using meter parking. -They have 2 bars. Downstairs and rooftop (heated) -Pizza restaurant (&pizza) -nice staff -right by the monuments -I would stay again Cons: -we had the room right in the hall way it was a pretty loud in the morning and and you could hear and feel everyone going up and down the steps. -the rug had stains. Definitely needs to be shampooed. -bathroom/shower floor needed to be cleaned.

Really a great option for an overnight in DC. This place is tiny and cute. Staff was friendly. Bartender was great. The rooftop bar is awesome. Super affordable.

This is NOT fresh mint and was visually unpleasant to say the least.

I have written rave reviews about my stays at Hotel Hive. I have only given it four stars this time because of the many disappointments on the food and beverage end during our four day stay. The staff were ALL great and that being said, I'm not sure how much they could control what occurred. The espresso machine was broken the entire time we were there, the coffee cups for the very hot coffee had NO lids and we are getting into a Lyft right after we got our coffee, they were missing several of the liquor for the drinks they feature on their menu, they had no olives for the martinis and the mint they put in my Moscow Mule should have been composted or thrown away - not put in my cocktail. I know the bartenders were frustrated as well. It's not their fault there was no Grey Goose for the five days I stayed there. Please! I realize these seem like first world problems but the number of "misses" kept adding up. Will I stay there again? You bet. I hope they get their act together on the food and beverage side. Every other time the bar has been packed (the roof top bar was well stocked but with limited choices) and the bar on the main floor was like a ghost town for the most part.

Great hospitality specially the guy at the front lobby. The bar would be nice more help but still good drinks and place. The rooftop nice!

My sister works as a front desk hotel manager so I get hear a lot about the workings of a hotel. The crew at Hotel Hive should be training all other hotels. They are hands down the best customer service team I've ever experienced with traveling. Specifically- Q and Shantae they both have this unmatched energy that is genuine and not cheesy - they start the experience. Rooms are small but they're clean and I had everything I needed. Great water pressure and it was always HOT! We enjoyed evening sunsets at the rooftop bar. The breakfast sandwich was my fav.

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

Too bad stored blankets were unavailable for sleepers wanting more warmth than their traveling companions. We had to make a second request for one. May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits.

The price for a room I guess because of the multiple conventions in the place was excessive. I think for a room, not a suite, it would have ben $750 per night during the week. I thought that was a lot so we used points, and the 1st night they had not held our King Room for us, and despite being our anniversary, we had to sleep in a double room and move the next day. Unfortunately, the double room was quiet, and the King Room had an adjoining door and we heard every little thing from the room next door. I would put this down one point, but the service, staffing and helpful Concierge made this place really nice for us.

Karim at the front door started off the experience, all smiles and never let me open my own door. The hotel itself is immaculate, very beautifully decorated and very well located. The staff at Estuary absolutely stole the show though, we must say. We are a family of 4 and were celebrating my daughters 8th birthday trip. From the second we met Asia and Shawnae at the host stand we were made to feel like family! Their warmth, love for the children and willingness to do anything to make their stay enjoyable was so genuine and greatly appreciated! Asia in particular went above in beyond any way she possibly could. She spent time with us, offered suggestions, and left us feeling like we have family here at the Conrad. Cory and Will made great drinks, always smiled, always remembered us and for that we are thankful. At breakfast we had the team of Kevin and Sandra and they also were amazing. Very attentive, did anything they could to make the kids smile, the service was always on point. Crystal at the front desk came up to the room and decorated for our daughters birthday, brought her a gift bag and absolutely made her feel special on her special day! In totality, we came with no expectations and left with every one of them being exceeded! This Conrad is amazing, the best one we've stayed at and honestly a hotel is only as good as the people that make it what it is. Traveling can be exhausting, and during our stay, my son Colin often went down to the bar and restaurant on his own in the evenings and mornings. He ordered his meals, sat comfortably, enjoyed his time, and never once felt awkward or out of place. The staff made sure he had what he needed, checked in on him naturally, and created an environment where he felt completely at ease. As a parent, that level of care is something you never forget. For me, the experience was just as special. Corey, the bartender, was exceptional. Each evening, he made sure I had exactly what I wanted, when I wanted it, and engaged in thoughtful, easy conversation that made the space feel welcoming and safe. It wasn't just service--it was connection, and it made a long, tiring trip feel restorative. This hotel doesn't just deliver luxury--it delivers humanity. The staff understands how to read people, how to make guests feel comfortable, and how to create an atmosphere where everyone feels like they belong. I've stayed in many beautiful hotels, but this experience stands apart because of how we were treated as people. Thank you to the entire team--and especially Corey--for making this such a memorable stay. We will absolutely be back.
