    Lobby motivational sign

I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay at during a short trip to DC. After doing a lot of research trying to find a hotel that wasn't outrageously overpriced, I found Hotel Hive. The rooms were bigger than a capsule hotel but smaller than an actual hotel room so not that much space but I was out most of the day so it was the perfect spot to stay at. It was conveniently located about 3 blocks away from Foggy Bottom station and serviced by 3 lines on the Metro. I was worried about the walk but it was actually super safe since it's right by George Washington University's campus so most of the time there were also students walking around. The welcome signage board in the lobby is pretty neat, besides saying the default welcome to the hotel message. It also frequently displayed inspirational quotes from famous people throughout the day. The hotel staff managed to get our room ready for us before check in which was super convenient. Only one elevator that was a bit slow and small but hey it worked. The elevator walls were glass so it felt less claustrophobic and there was interesting artwork on the walls. During this stay, we stayed in the twin loft room on the 5th floor. Hallway lights were a bit dim for me. We were able to ask the front desk for a mini fridge which took a day to get cold. Overall the room was pretty clean and decently maintained. A few areas of improvement would be maybe air freshener for the bathroom (it had a musty smell which needed the window to be opened to air out) and there seemed to be a lot of rust on the metal parts around the room. The mattresses on the bunkbeds were pretty soft and the pillows were quite fluffy. I liked that there was a TV for each bunk too. I just wished there was a channel guide so I could know what I was watching rather than randomly scroll through channels. One thing about the bunkbed is that the ladder was not the easiest thing to use to get to the top bunk. It would be nice if the steps were wider so that I didn't feel like I was about to fall off every time I had to climb down. There was a bluetooth radio speaker in our room which was pretty nice because I feel like a lot of hotel rooms don't offer an amenity like this. Other than a desk and chair there wasn't really much storage but that's a given since this is a micro hotel. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion were available in the shower as well as plenty of towels. FYI if you get dinner from &pizza, the first floor dining area to the side was only for dine in at that restaurant (I guess?). Luckily we were able to eat on the rooftop once it opened at 3. The weather was a bit chilly at night time but there were overhead heaters and lit fires to keep me warm. The bartender was even nice enough to give us cups of water. There were 2 bathrooms on the rooftop and both were pretty clean. I looked out from the corner and was able to see the Lincoln Memorial down the block. Check out was a breeze and the hotel staff were frequently checking in with us to see how things were going or if there was anything we needed help with. On the day of check out, we wanted to explore the city some more so we were able to leave our suitcases with the front desk for pick up later. It looked like they keep the luggages either at the front desk or downstairs so I knew my stuff would be secure. Definitely a great place to stay in DC!

Fantastic. Looks good from the outside but also looks good inside. Room is good, brilliant shower. Then the downstairs bar, fantastic barman. Friendly. The pizza was just unreal. Second only to Chicago pizza. The whole experience is unbelievable. Would stay again.

A cute hotel with tiny yet functional rooms. I booked this hotel last minute and it was the only room available on a busy graduation weekend. I enjoyed my short stay there. It had everything that I needed and was surprisingly so comfortable. The hotel serves breakfast in the morning and there is a restaurant right next door that you can access through the lobby. I recommend this if you are on a quick solo trip in DC and you want to be within walking distance from all the monuments and museums.

First time at a micro hotel. I was surprised but not disappointed. When they say micro they mean it! Pros: -Meter parking right outside the hotel. If you don't want to pay $25 every time you get your car out the lot. We actually saved money the two nights we were here using meter parking. -They have 2 bars. Downstairs and rooftop (heated) -Pizza restaurant (&pizza) -nice staff -right by the monuments -I would stay again Cons: -we had the room right in the hall way it was a pretty loud in the morning and and you could hear and feel everyone going up and down the steps. -the rug had stains. Definitely needs to be shampooed. -bathroom/shower floor needed to be cleaned.

Such a lovely experience. I was lucky enough to check in around 2:30pm, on a Sunday (6/30/2024). James and Q were at the front desk when I arrived. James checked me in and informed me I had been giving an upgraded room, which was such a treat. They were very personable and it was so easy to check in. The room I was given was perfect and I really love that I received a text message from Q asking if the room was to my expectations (and if I required anything additional) a little after I checked in. I was able to relax before a planned dinner with Friends and it was so nice to see Q at the desk when I get as ready to leave. I really love how amazing her customer service skills are. We had a friendly conversation before I stepped out (her attention to detail is phenomenal, really personalizes the experience) When I arrived back at the hotel Q was there and asked me how dinner was. I really felt at home here. This is my first time staying at Hive Hotel and James and Q make me want to come back whenever I'm in town. I'm very fortunate to be a flight attendant and get to stay in many hotels all around the country. It is rare that I pay for a hotel and I can say, I will definitely be back, this was such a fantastic experience.

Really a great option for an overnight in DC. This place is tiny and cute. Staff was friendly. Bartender was great. The rooftop bar is awesome. Super affordable.

This is NOT fresh mint and was visually unpleasant to say the least.

If you have the opportunity to catch one of these evenings, it is absolutely worth the effort. I arrived early and stopped at Off the Record for a drink before heading upstairs. The bartender mentioned that this event also helps provide additional hours for staff during the slower month of August, which made me appreciate the concept even more. The Top of the Hay itself is stunning. The views and setting are exactly what you would expect from such an iconic DC property, and getting to experience a space that is typically reserved for private events made the evening feel particularly special. The drinks were also excellent. Sweet, but not overly sweet. But what really stood out was the staff. I do not say this lightly. The service was outstanding. I genuinely wish I had caught everyone's names because anyone working between roughly 4:30 and 7:30 that evening in the lobby, Off the Record, or Top of the Hay deserves recognition and a raise! Every person I interacted with was incredibly attentive without ever being overbearing. What impressed me most was that the staff remembered my schedule for the evening and made sure I left Off the Record at exactly the right time so I could be the first person to step into Top of the Hay when it opened. That level of attention to detail is rare. Beautiful space, great drinks, and truly exceptional hospitality. "Be Gin the Evening" is such a clever way to let locals and visitors experience a part of The Hay Adams they otherwise might never see. I would absolutely do it again.

For the rates they charge, the conditions and service are unacceptable. The building is old, heavily dated, and features cheap fixings. The bathroom is tiny, featuring a cramped round sink with virtually zero counter space to set down any personal items. Furthermore, for a five-star hotel, lacking a proper hot tub and standalone shower is unacceptable. The towels provided are cheap, rough, and feel entirely out of place at this price point. The bathroom ventilation is so old and loud, that I can't even believe it's there. No fridge in the room, only a mini bar that will charge you if you move around mini bar items to place your own drinks. The view of the White House was severely misadvertised. To actually see it, you are required to pay an extra $700 on top of an already steep $600-per-night room rate. The acoustic insulation is non-existent. If anyone is staying in the room above you, forget about sleeping--every single footstep and movement carries straight through. The front desk staff was entirely dismissive. After promising to switch our room to resolve our issues, they dragged us through three separate attempts, wasted hours of our time with non-responsive answers, and then finally demanded we pay even more money to fix their mistake. After we went through, not even a complimentary breakfast or really anything. Shocked that this place is more expensive than Four Seasons, St. Regents, and the kind. This is barely a three star hotel (except location of course). Stay away.

The room was spotless, the turndown service was a nice flex, and everything felt polished. The location is clutch--walkable to fun spots and everywhere we needed to be for work. The key-card elevators are sleek, high-tech, and super secure. The restaurant and bar had great energy, and the food hit, but $24 for a drink is unhinged. Overall, a stylish, safe, and seriously fun stay. More details from my review on Google: Rooms: The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The turndown service was a lovely touch, and everything in the room was perfect throughout my stay. Safety: The hotel elevators felt extremely secure and high-tech. Guests must use a key card to access certain levels and floors, which added an extra layer of safety and peace of mind. It's a great security feature and made me feel very comfortable during our stay. Walkability: The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of plenty of things to do, as well as the locations I needed to access for work. The location made my stay easy and convenient. Food & drinks: The hotel restaurant and bar had a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, but everything felt extremely overpriced. Charging $24 for one drink is absurd. I enjoyed the experience overall, but the prices make it difficult to recommend. Noteworthy details: From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a regular. May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits.
