    Afternoon tea tower
    Leinani S.

I came to the Waldorf Astoria's Peacock Alley for the cherry blossom tea to celebrate my birthday. We were a little early for our 3:30 reservation seating (reservations are required) so the hostess invited us to take a seat in the bar or lobby while we waited. We chose to take a stroll around the lobby instead. Peacock Alley is located in the lobby - an incredible, open space with a glass ceiling providing tremendous natural lighting. The decor is tasteful and elegant, centered on a beautiful pink cherry blossom tree. Entertainment is provided by a harpist. Seating is comfortable with a variety of sofas and comfortable chairs set around marble topped tables. We reported back to the hostess at 3:30 and were seated at a two top with cozy wingback chairs, the waiter was right behind the hostess with our menus and champagne. The Afternoon Tea includes a glass of Veuve Cliquot champagne but you can choose to pay additional for a cocktail if you would like. The tea menu changes seasonally. The cherry blossom menu (photo attached) features all things cherry with a specific focus on Japanese inspired dishes. Once the waiter ascertained that there were no food allergies in our party, and answered questions about the teas (you begin with a pot of tea of your choice but tea is unlimited and you can choose as many as you would like) our tea order was placed. In no time at all our tea pots arrived followed by the tower of afternoon tea delicacies (shaped like the clock tower on the top of the building with a working clock). Everything was delicious, but our favorites were the confit duck and chicken cherryaki savories and the cherry opera cake as well as the flaky black sesame caramel and cherry scones with the house made cherry preserves. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive, keeping our water topped up and offering another pot of tea (I began with the lavender earl grey and finished with the excellent chai). The manager also came by to speak with us and ensure everything was satisfactory. The second pot of tea arrived with a beautiful slate platter with some extra sweets and a Happy Birthday message. The price of the tea does not include tip, although a gratuity is automatically added to the final bill so you don't have to add extra. Parking at the hotel is valet for $40 cash up front or you can choose to park yourself in one of the public garages and walk over. This is an expensive outing but well worth it for a special occasion or just a treat to yourself.

Incredible cherry blossom afternoon tea--"Peacock Alley" is absolutely stunning with the cherry blossom tree, chandeliers, and live harp player. We started off with the glass of Veuve Cliquot and then ordered our teas (lavender earl grey, cherry blossom, and ginger yuzu.) We absolutely loved the presentation of the tea sandwiches and pastries. Everything was so tasty--a special shoutout to the scones. Some of the best I've had! I also loved the mint lemon curd spread. Sooo yummy. An absolutely perfect way to spend the afternoon in the springtime.

High tea is an experience. We enjoyed a pleasant tea experience here and then a few apps afterwards. The Caesar salad is nice and cheesy with perfectly cooked chicken breast on the side.

Beautiful old world charm . Had crystal Chandelier in the bedroom ceiling (that was a first for me). Had quite a decadent feel to the whole experience.

We came for afternoon tea and loved the experience! The venue was decorated beautifully for cherry blossom season and our server Cristhian was wonderful. Sanjay was also helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The sandwich and dessert assortment was delicious and I loved my cherry blossom tea! Highly recommend!

I made an error in booking the reservation for afternoon tea as I didn't go on the correct page. Since we were there, they were able to accommodate us for a lunch reservation instead. Upon arrival and walking in, was in awe of this whole restaurant/ lounge / check in area. Open atrium feel with sky high glass ceiling and elegant decor. Our table was by the bar and the best in my opinion as there's no one at the bar so we had views all around. Mehtu is the best waiter we can ask for. He's attentive, courteous, funny, accommodating. Towards the end, we mentioned that it was my birthday and I made an error in booking, he added some special touches to our dining experience to make sure I enjoyed my lunch even more and I sure did. Every single dish was perfect - from presentation, flavors, taste. I cannot rave about this spot enough and when you dine here, you'll understand.

We arrived for our appointment. The valet parking process was efficient. We visited the spa. The check-in process was easy. We were escorted to the area to change into our robes. Though our appointments were late in the day, we had a chance to relax in the lounge area, where there were refreshments available. The spa services that we had were relaxing. I would definitely return.

This amazing hotel is a family staple for brunch and dinner with my family who still Resides in DMV but is now my favorite hotel to book while in the city. Luxury at its finest and the ambiance and white glove service is unmatched . This hotel is centrally located, close to the Smithsonian's, an absolutely beautiful. The amenities were wonderful and I would highly recommend this for a special occasion or a splurge or just a night for drinks or dinner .

Was a very nice stay, staff were great to deal with both at the hotel and restaurant (Peacock Alley), though the food at peacock alley wasn't very good. We were traveling with a 2 year old and a baby under 1; so what was cool is at check in the hotel staff also offered us a pack and play, not just a crib; you don't see that in hotels very often. We were there during the Christmas holiday and the vibes were perfect in keeping up a holiday spirit. One last thing we really enjoyed was when we walked in for check-in it was tea time so there was live music playing and that was a special fancy touch.

Extremely disappointed with our experience at the Waldorf Astoria. Our event was booked in April 2025, yet we were *blindsided in January 2026, just one month before our reservation, with a demand for full prepayment that had never been disclosed. We are not from DC and had 35 guests traveling from across the U.S., so transparency was critical. We even reached out to confirm our reservation and were given the runaround for four days before finally speaking with event staff, only to be hit with this last-minute policy. This information came from Beatrice (event coordinator) and Abdelilah (General Manager), who claimed it was policy but never provided any written documentation to support it. We offered to put a credit card down in good faith and were denied any flexibility. To make matters worse, we found multiple other venues that were upfront and willing to work with us without requiring full payment upfront. For a luxury hotel, waiting months to disclose major payment requirements is unacceptable. Proceed with caution if you're planning an event here.

I remember when the building was the old post office pavilion. The Waldorf Astoria is luxury and excess. One night's stay is about the same price as purchasing a cruise special. The lobby is beautiful. The Peacock Alley bar is a place to gather while enjoying the district. The restaurants are quality and expensive. The clock tower offers beautiful views of the city. Tickets are free. The park service limits how many people can be in the tower. You might have to wait to get inside.

    Food presentation at fall tea
    Steve N.

We experienced the fall tea at the Waldorf Astoria. The tea is very well done and our waiter was top notch. Five different teas, savory items, and sweet items. The highlight was the mini Lobster BLT and mini duck sandwich. On the sweet side was the Sweet Potato cake. Never thought I would like it but it was surprisingly good. I am not a tea person, so I was glad a fall inspired cocktail was available. Great time, service and atmosphere!!

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.
