    The Tabard Inn website

Wonderful inn, unique rooms (stairs so perhaps challenging for some), lovely people in every position, great common space/bar to hang out in, and a restaurant locals come to. Warning: make SURE you book directly with them. Two different friends were tricked by google results: they thought they were booking directly with the inn but it turned out to be a third party (expedia) Expedia booked one of them into THREE nonrefundable reservations for the same time period. He made the reservation by calling a number that actually answered the phone "Tabard Inn" when it wasn't. The other booked online only to learn, when she checked in and said she was going to leave a day early, that the reservation was made through a third party...because the google search misled her. Luckily the front desk helped resolve both of these problems but who needs the stress! Just make sure you see this website before booking!

The rooms have a lovely ambiance.

My husband, adult son, his partner, and I needed to plan for a short stay in DC, more business than pleasure, but we thought a unique hotel would make it more fun. We chose the Tabard Inn for its history and overall aesthetics. We were not disappointed. The inn is colorful, unique, and provides all the ambiance anyone could ask for. The staff for both the hotel and for the restaurant were all friendly. Prior to the trip we suddenly had to extend our stay by a day. When l called to see if these arrangements could be made, I was helped immediately and was able to extend our stay without having to deal with a rate change that sometimes happens when a weekday stay becomes a weekend stay. They make it clear on their site that because of the nature of the inn, that there is no elevator. This is important to know when you have a room on the fourth floor. The stairs were daunting. Don't go into a stay there expecting to have the same experience you would in a more modern, typical hotel. It has quirks. But if you are looking for somewhere with atmosphere that is interesting and welcoming, give them a try. We took the chance and absolutely loved our visit.

Beautiful hotel!! I had no idea what to expect when I booked the room. It was on a whim and the price was right. The room was stunning. Private bathroom in the room. There is no tv or mini fridge but they have a restaurant and lounge downstairs and free WiFi. We also valeted our car next door for $49. Very nice guys!!

With Pooka at The Tabard Inn: Boogie Night The place is just packed this evening, and Pooka and I entered the dining room being led by the concierge. There was (literally) a collective gasp, and then exclamations of joy and approval from all the patrons having their Chrisnukah feast. Pooka was in top form, and grinned and wagged her entire butt as she dived into the fray. Much holiday love and adoration was had. I told all that asked that she is an Ayatollah Bordello Hound. We went up to our room to get settled in, and then went down to the bar where I sipped whiskey, and Pooka continued to hold court and get chummy with the staff. My first "real" job was at The Tabard Inn in 1977. My mom was besties with the head chef, an up and coming Austrian cook, Nora Poullion. Nora hired me as a dishwasher, and baby, I did a lot of dishes! That year in July - tropical DC summer - "Boogie Nights" by Heatwave dropped, and the pop radio stations went bananas. At one point it came on the kitchen radio, and EVERYONE in the kitchen started grooving. Then. When the song ended, the station DJ said, "People, that was too good; gotta turn that motha out again!" And the song started again, and everyone in the kitchen whooped, and everyone dropped what they were doing and started dancing, and I was over in the dishwashing station getting totally amped, and washing that pile of dishes like it was my funky mission. And THEN, the DJ played that song a third time, and the radio got turned up to 11, and the party spilled out into the bar, the Ethiopian waitress grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the dishes, and we all shared an absolute triple charged ecstasy. Radio still really mattered then. That's where you heard the new stuff. Subsequently, Nora's boyfriend, Steve told her that my mom was too old to be a friend, and that it wasn't a good look. Nora told my mom this, and utterly broke her heart. You see, mom had given Nora her first cooking lessons in Bangui (Central African Republic) when Nora was a clueless young newlywed with a French husband who had certain "expectations". In the following years Nora discovered her true calling, and became a culinary rock star. I kept the job for the rest of the summer. I highly recommend The Tabard Inn. It's employee owned, had a cool vibe, and not only is it a dog-friendly establishment, but is sincerely so. Also, as a hotel it is probably the best goddamn deal in downtown Washington, DC. I also found rock star parking out front.

What a charming place and very unassuming and actually a hidden gem in a rustic hotel situated on a NW street near DuPont Circle in Wash., DC! I met a very good friend and a visiting priest friend from the Netherlands for a beautiful breakfast. My friend had the Chicken & Churro waffles, Father had the classic Eggs Benedict and I enjoyed the famous Tabard Donuts (they give you two cinnamon sugar donuts) and vanilla whipped cream in a ramekin, Gouda Grits (in honor of Father who is from Holland, where that traditional Dutch cheese is from), and I had the Brussels Sprouts and bacon. Simple? I loved the donut, I only ate one & brought the other one back to my office to eat later; the Gouda Grits were good and a lot in the bowl. He tasted it too and approved, although he said it was also rich. The grits were topped off with decorative chopped scallion. I thoroughly enjoyed the Brussels Sprouts, in fact, I have never had them this good actually. They were excellent. My friend and I wanted to have Aperol Spritz but waiter said it was too early for the bar. So Father had an Earl Grey tea and I had a latte and my friend had a coke. It was an enjoyable breakfast and I would love to return again hopefully to enjoy the Aperol Spritz with breakfast and those excellent Brussels Sprouts and more on the menu to try. Had the waiter been service-oriented, personality wise, I would've given 5 stars!)

The staff and management did an outstanding job and left nothing to be desired. They went out of their way to ensure that our first anniversary celebratory dinner was an absolute success. We were greeted with a warm welcome and two cozy seating options (indoors or out). We chose indoor seating since the temps were running low that eve. Compliments of the chef we were offered a dry brut rose' along with a personalized anniversary card signed by the entire staff. Without further ado, the kale frisée' salad with feta and grapes was the perfect 'get your greens in before the main entree appetizer. We chose the veal porterhouse for our main course which was out of this world and paired with their Tempranillo by the glass. Although a bit cliche, it was honestly the best bone in veal we've ever had, so compliments to the chef. Also Tabard has wonderful tea and decaf coffee selections to pair with any of their deserts. I can honestly say that the food availability, portions, customer experience has improved significantly since our last visit. We look forward to returning for their, brunch, cocktails or lunch sometime soon. Kindest regards Cheers

The staff is warm and gracious. One cannot beat the location for proximity to everything . Our room was spacious and decorated to match the hotel's rich history. The lounge was perfect for an evening conversation and a night cap. The breakfast was delicious and abundant. The three issues that hold me back from giving more stars is that the mattresses were almost unbearably hard, our room was bathed in light at night, and the noise of late night pedestrians, some super joyful and others very angry, invaded the room until 2:30 a.m. Recommendations for future guests - bring ear plugs, night/eye shades, and be prepared for a hard mattress. Perhaps the hotel could offer ear plugs and eye shades for sale or as a courtesy to light sleepers.

    In our beautiful room!!

Stay at the tabard in to get transported to a different country and a different time period!!! So much unique art, culture, winding staircases and cozy fireplace nooks. It feels like being at home and in a fantasy world at the same time! I booked a room last min for my husbands birthday and they provided complimentary champagne!! They also let us check in 3 hours early because arrived early! We will 100% be staying here again!! They also give you a $10 voucher for the restaurant/bakery so we tried their cinnamon sugar donuts - they are AMAZING!!!

I went back and fourth on my review of the Tabard Inn. I loved staying there, and was so glad I chose it over the cookie-cutter "fancy hotels" that were part of my conference. The place is charming. The bed was very comfy, and possibly even had a new mattress. Super soft sheets and quilts adorned the bed. The space was large and comfortable with a walk-in closet nearly as big as the bathroom! I really enjoyed the cozy seating area and fireplace that were in the room. There is tons of space, and no tv included (just how I like it!) and the staff was friendly and attentive. An ironing board was included in the room and I was able to borrow a nice new iron (much better than the ones usually found in hotel rooms) from the front desk. The A/C worked very well and each room comes with a water container. The parts that left me torn were the label-maker labeled soap, shampoo and conditioner bottles. I had no idea what kind of soap was in them, likely cheap soap. Usually in these kinds of quirky places there is effort to make some sort of eco friendly, local or great smelling soap in the bathroom. Not the case here. The shower fluctuated from hot to cold regularly each day while I showered for no apparent reason. This particular room is also very dark. With no overhead lighting, and even with the wall length windows open fully, it does not receive much lighting. By turning on each lamp (and there are many) in the room, it reaches a semi functional brightness. And lastly, I was woken up at 7am each morning by stomping and banging on the wooden floors above me. It was quiet all the rest of the time, and I was generally up by seven each day anyway, but it seemed unnecessary and I assume for folks who would like to seep a little later it would be cause for annoyance. To echo some of the hotel reviews below, this hotel is a great find for a certain kind of traveler. I am that kind of traveler. I hate staying in normal hotels and don't expect it to be fancy, but choose culture and experience over most things. As a note of caution, the staircase is very narrow and steep! If you end up on the higher floors you will have a workout lugging your suitcase and bags up through the tight and twisty staircase. The hotel is happy to offer assistance, however. There is no elevator so you must be able to brave the stairs. I enjoyed my stay and would happily book again, aiming for a different room next time (each room is individually styled!) This review is likely specifically for Room #4, since I assume many do not suffer from the same darkness or noise concerns that mine did.

There is free wi-fi and continental breakfast downstairs in the morning. This place is a great alternative to the pricey hotels around DC -- it has a private, relaxing feel and yet is close enough to the Metro that it is also pretty convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

Manisha and Prashsant, owners of Stone Manor Inn, were personally involved in making sure all went smoothly with our cocktail and dinner party, and it most certainly did! SMI is a lovely old country inn on 14 acres, I believe, with a number of different venues (indoors and out) for meetings, parties, and weddings. The rooms (7 in total) were eclectic, in a good way. All four of their largest rooms that we occupied were spacious, with king beds and spa tubs with separate showers. All were well maintained and clean upon check-in. We had no complaints. I'm not sure when we will return to the area, but when we do, we will not hesitate to return!

I was on the fence to book this place given its hefty price tag, and glad I went for it and completely agree with the glowing 5 star reviews. The bubbly host Manisha is very warm and welcoming. She cordially gave us a 20 min tour around the property, which was built in 1908, and even gave me a bonus tour of the other rooms afterwards. She kindly answered all of our questions and didn't rush us. The Peacecock Room is the most spacious and best room (aside from the bridal suite), elaborately decorated in peacocks. We loved it! The little touches like the handmade soap, a set of wine glasses, and a wine opener made the stay so memorable and special. While the rooms aren't temperature controlled, the electric flameless fireplace kept the room warm. The double capacity jacuzzi was perfect for my hubby and I and even had lights (some of the other rooms have smaller jacuzzi, so be sure to check). The rooms were clean minus a couple of lady bugs and stink bugs (which is too be expected out in the country). Dr. Fauci's assistant stayed here and Manisha informed us of the extensive sanitation process, even the pillows and decorations are quarantined for 6 days! The backyard is well groomed and really spacious with a nice patio and heat lamp, which kept us warm sitting outside in the frigid winter. Our dog loved running around! You can see the stars and constellations really well. It would make a great wedding venue! The Christmas decorations around the property are really nice. The owners really go the extra mile and put a lot of TLC into the property. The 6 course breakfast is delicious and bursting with flavor. Between the veggie quiche, cheesy potatoes, scone, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh OJ, I was stuffed! The fresh butterscotch scone was divine and devoured my mine and my hubby's! The cheesy potato had a nice spicy kick. Everything was so fresh and delicious. All the courses come out at once on a large tray. While my hubby and I chose to sit at the communal table (the chairs are roughly 6 feet apart), you can take the tray up to your room. Manisha and her family greeted us and thoroughly explained the dishes and chatted with us for a bit, even her son made an appearance! The bed and breakfast has a nice bar with wine, cider, and alcohol based on an honor code system. Water and soda is complementary, they even had Coke 0! The complementary fudgy brownies by the breakfast area during the day were sweet and tasty. Again the little complimentary stuff gives this bed and breakfast a nice resort feel. Very relaxing stay and looking forward to coming back!

We started with the baked brie, and it was the perfect opener. Warm, creamy, and beautifully rich, it had that comforting, indulgent feel without being too heavy. It was the kind of appetizer that makes you pause after the first bite and think, "Okay, this is going to be special." We also shared a salad that was far better than any "starter salad" has a right to be. The greens were crisp and fresh, but the real surprise was the croutons--light, buttery, and so tender they practically melted in your mouth. Every bite felt balanced, simple in the best way, and clearly made with care. For the main course, we ordered the chicken under brick and the scallops risotto, and both were genuinely memorable. The chicken under brick had a beautifully crisp exterior, with juicy, tender meat underneath--full of flavor and cooked exactly right. The scallops were seared perfectly, with that delicate golden crust and soft, buttery center. Paired with the creamy risotto, it felt luxurious and comforting at the same time. It was the kind of dish you keep talking about afterward because it is that good. Dessert somehow raised the bar even more. The chocolate tart was rich, smooth, and deeply satisfying--pure indulgence. The fruit tart was fresh, bright, and perfectly balanced, with a delicate crust and vibrant flavors that made it feel light and refreshing after such an incredible meal.
