I chose the Melrose Georgetown because of location. I arrived to the hotel earlier than expected, about 1:30pm-2:00pm. I went to check-in,hoping that my room would be ready. I was told right away that my room was ready but there's a $50 charge to get into your room early. I thought it was a little crazy to charge someone extra to get into a room that is ready. So I paid the $50. They told me about the amenities. Including the $10 bottle of water in the room. The room looked nice. The Furniture looked high-end. But that's only on the surface. I'm not sure how secure the room is. I say this because the door latch/lock is about halfway off the door. Routine maintenance apparently isn't a thing. The room was also EXTREMELY dusty. The Bed: the mattress didn't have much give. To be honest, it felt like somebody had put a small pad over center blocks bed. It was very hard and extra firm. The sheets and bedspread was nice, but the fitted sheet appears to be worn out. Or maybe too big for the mattress. The fitted sheet does not take much to get loose and starting to raise up off the edges. I noticed just laying on the bed the fitted sheet becomes loose, a lot more than it should be The pillows feels like somebody took some padding and chopped it up into 1000 little pieces and then sewed it in a pillowcase. The pillows may have been top-notch when bought. They're definitely not now. The Bathroom also is where looks can be deceiving at first glance. The countertop and sink were fine, however the countertop did have numerous paint chips, but I guess that's just normal wear. There is a door that separates the toilet and the bathtub. Toilet seat is extremely loose and moves back-and-forth very easy. It would not take much for it to come flying off. The first day I noticed while using the bathroom, there are several brown stains and on the wall. If you're sitting on the commode, it is well within arms reach maybe a foot away from the toilet. I have no clue what it is, but I'm guessing either blood or poop. Either way, there is a big smear on the wall. And then other various similar brown marks around it. The bathtub has numerous rust marks. The tub is a broken hip waiting to happen. The tub is curved at the bottom so it's not necessarily a flat surface. If you're taking a shower, between the soap and the water, my feet slid around several times. Also, at the base of the door frame, where the shower is, the wood is split numerous times. The bathroom door looks like somebody tried to punch it open. There's a small crack above the door knob. The Hotel: according to Google, the Melrose Georgetown is a four star luxury boutique Hotel. Luxury or not there are several things that are absent. Trash cans in the common areas. Other than your room. The only other trashcan they have is in the lobby. Several times during the week I've had to go downstairs to put something in the trashcan. I'm not sure why, but I feel there should be a trashcan on each floor, even if it's by the elevators. Ice machines is another thing that's absent. They have one you just have to go down to the lobby and ask someone at the desk to get it. Depending on who's at the desk, you may get an attitude. There's one lady who's been there the majority of the week who seemed very irritated anytime I came to ask for ice or anything. I had several occasions where I would ask this lady something and it seemed that it was such a hassle for her just to answer the question. A few evenings ago I asked another one of the front desk clerks about Uber availability early in morning. She seemed very irritated that I even asked her a question. I got a one word answer "yeah". I wished I knew these ladies names. I believe I know one of their names. But these ladies are giving your hotel a bad name with their attitude. Convenience or not I definitely would seek out another hotel if I'm ever in the area again. Between the bed, the unknown stains wall next to the toilet, the rude staff member in the added price to get in a room that's already available is unnecessary. And with the price I paid for the room the bed should not be uncomfortable Also at checkout this morning I had an additional $200 in fees, such as Historical fees. I thought I had already pain in full (minus the room service cost). So this charge seemed like a surprise full of random fees. ROOM 832 read more

Eventually you figure it out, but the first minute feels like defusing a bomb. The Molton Brown wall-mounted caddy looks luxe. In practice? Press. Hesitate. Wheeze. Dribble down the bottle. Maybe a surprise glob if you're lucky. High-end branding, mid-level pump performance. Towels? Not sized for traveling Americans who are old, tallish, and buffet-adjacent. Functional, yes. Generous, absolutely not. Now let's talk parking -- because this is where the real adventure begins. If you grew up navigating a metropolis with limited parking (Seattle instincts never die), you are conditioned to hunt garages like prey. The Melrose has no dedicated self-parking. And there it was -- the downhill driveway to Varsity on K, 930 K St. With SpotHero and a grip of luck, I secured overnight parking for $25 instead of $76. Three right turns into destiny. So here's the verdict: Fantastic layout. Excellent bed. Smart small touches. Bathroom engineering choices that chose chaos. Limited outlets. Parking requires initiative -- but victory is possible. Still a strong four stars. Jen absolutely closed the trip out right. Four stars -- because comfort was king, but the bathroom and outlets chose chaos. Booked this hotel through AAHotels. Checked in and left to attend a work event. The room was very dilapidated. Returned with some food to eat for dinner. After dinner, while getting ready for bed, I looked at the bedspread and saw not one, but three bloodstains. Tried to call the front desk, but the phone did not work. I went downstairs to complain. The front desk again switched my room to another on the same floor and offered an apology. Additionally, when I check out that front desk agent tried to change me an additional $30+ in taxes that I was not told about. I found this very scammy considering I had a prepaid reservation. This hotel sits comfortably in the "fine to fine plus" category. Nothing wild, nothing tragic. The location is the real win. I walked to Georgetown proper in under eight minutes, and I ran to the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument in about ten. The building is definitely older, but the rooms are surprisingly spacious. Water pressure was fine (the shower head is definitely going to fall off soon) and there was a separate desk space that I took advantage of to get some work done. Just a heads-up on the views...it is very possible to end up staring directly at the dumpster zone in the back. I was in room 102, and found myself generally uninspired. HOWEVER...I booked my room through Dayuse, was only there from 9am to 4pm, and paid $99 (plus a resort fee for who knows what). For a first flight in, last flight out workday, it was exactly what I needed. If you're here for business and want to be close to everything, this place checks the "fine" box. If you're planning a more substantial trip, it's probably not your top pick. And one more thing: the AC was set at 66 and still barely whispered at me. Not a huge problem for my quick daytime stay, but I'd keep that in mind if you're visiting in peak summer. read more

Quiet hotel and free internet. Great working desk. Well-kept common areas. Location in the Georgetown area has many walking distance places. Valet parking (only option to park) is on par with any other valet place in Washington DC at $70 daily; but it is the most convenient way. I was excited to stay in an historic boutique hotel in Georgetown, but too many things went wrong to give it more than 2 stars. I was there for a multi-day meeting in the lower lobby. Checkin was pleasant. This is an old hotel so the elevators are a bit cramped. No big deal. There is coffee service in the morning in the lobby close to the elevators. The coffee was good. My room was large and nicely appointed. A Lavazza coffee machine and a refrigerator were nice touches. Most hotels have movie channels included, but but not here. Just a small number of TV channels. The grout in the bathroom needs some serious cleaning. I forgot to take a photo. The shower was strong, but only pumped out warm water. I notified the front desk after the first morning and it seems like if you shower at 7AM you cannot get hot water. That never got fixed. After waking up the first morning I noticed it was cold in the room. I reported the cold room to the front desk and they said it would be taken care of. It wasn't. I had to report the issue the second morning and they finally brought me a space heater. We had a large group meeting in the Potomac rooms. The meeting room was freezing and it took quite some time to get the "engineers" to fix the cold air blowing. Meanwhile we all wore coats. I checked out the hotel restaurant menu, but could not afford the outrageous prices. An egg was $8 and toast $5.50. Sodas are $5. Breakfast was not included in the room rate. There is a nice alcove in the room with a desk. But I think it's furnished to write pen and paper letters like in the 1900s. The chair is too short to use a computer and the glass top will not work with an optical mouse. The workout room is good and old. I did enjoy the Peloton bikes. But the rest of the equipment was really old and had ancient iPhone connectors. They were supposed to have TV, but none of them worked. The last evening of my stay the fire alarm went off and we all took the long journey down the stairs. Seems it was a short in the laundry room. The last day of my stay the power went out in my room as I was getting ready to go to my meeting. read more

what a charming hotel. We were chairs of a conference and stressed to the limit. while we waited for checkin we sat in the cool, charming, big lobby and enjoyed mint infused chilled water. The front desk was so helpful and also granted our request for a lobby level room. The bed was so comfortable and room spacious and charming. Although we didn't use them it was nice to know the closet had an umbrella and a bathrobe. We found weekend parking nearby in about ten minutes of looking. I had an overnight stay at Melrose Georgetown Hotel. Overall, it was a decent stay in a nice area close to restaurants. The room was a decent size. A few things in my room were a little out dated but nothing to say the room was bad. Something interesting was how big the closet was. It really was quite spacious which may be a benefit if you want to put your luggage in a space to declutter. Probably a pro for families. Downstairs has a nice bar, and I believe a restaurant. stayed there for 3 nights during my trip to DC. 4.5 stars would be most accurate. In general the experience was satisfactory. The hotel is itself a historic building (marked as a historic site actually) with classical designs. You can also experience this in guest rooms. For my stay, it undoubtedly met my standard expectations including nice front desk, spacious room, daily housekeeping service and a good fitness room (though not large). There are also some surprises. One is the design I mentioned above; another one is that instead of water, they provided fruit water in lobby (still you can get pure water in e.g. the fitness room). Moreover, its location is perfect, at least for sightseeing! It is about 5 min walk from Georgetown, 12 min walk from White House, 4 min run from Georgetown Waterfront Park, and there are several bus stops and trail stations nearby. It also has a restaurant which serves breakfast lunch dinner but due to time limit I did not have a try. Some suggested improvements: 1. The hotel had better add a room key-access system to the elevator to protect guest safety. 2. Would appreciate it if there were a self-service laundry. Still, considering all the factors it would definitely be one of my choices for staying in DC next time! read more

We stay there because we were on a bus tour and this was the starting point. It's centrally located and easy walking distance to lots of restaurants. Helpful staff at the front desk. It's a historic hotel so it's OLD and we didn't expect it to be top notch. Breakfast was included in our tour package, it would be much better to eat at the other restaurants around the hotel. The Hotel restaurant was always under staff and the service and servers reflected it. As they constantly mentioned several time I'm doing the best I can. We are on vacation and this is our 2nd visit here , and 2 nd time we've asked for a mimosa or a Bloody Mary and they seem to have it on the breakfast menu but can't deliver .. it's same excuse , bartender night before didn't " leave it out" ?? This is now my favorite hotel in DC after many Family visits and college tours here in the past. It is a historic hotel with a unique interior design that combined rich american history and modern decor throughout the hotel. In our one bedroom suite, I particularly love the writing area with "We the People" theme, and a super comfy mattress and fluffy pillows for a great night sleep. The service was attentive especially when Geo turned back and checked us in right away when he saw us walking toward the desk (he was on his way to lunch in the lobby). Thank You Geo! read more

I forgot my backpack there when I checked out my luggage from the hotel and I noticed when I got to the airport so I came back not even an hour after the lady at the front desk told me the hotel is not responsible for it, then told me to talk to someone that works for a third party PNC and it's not responsible and when I called the hotel once again they said they are not responsible for lost bags in the hotel because I already checked out. This hotel is beautiful and has a great location! It was easy to walk to upscale shops and restaurants and other local places. We did encounter an issue here that compromised our safety and scared us, but Aki is so professional and made us feel better. His professionalism and empathy was just what we needed during this breach of security to rectify the situation. The workout facilities is small but equipped with a medicine rack, 2 peloton bikes with guest trial workout videos, and large tv, headphones, and the usual work out equipment like treadmills and dumbbells. We did get in a workout while visiting, so overall it is a really nice facility. Valet parking is pretty efficient. it's a small little wait but thats expected for valet. Truly, AKI is the reason this hotel has earned 5 stars! read more

This property gets a strong rating for a few reasons. It is close to the White House and other tourist areas on Pennsylvania Avenue. It is old-school luxury with Bellman that will take your luggage all the way to your room. THE PROS It has a comfy lobby that is a great hang out with a fireplace, bar, restaurant and business center. The front desk usually has some sweet treats but this trip they didn't have any. They also have fruit infused water all day and in the morning coffee and tea with my favorite tea mighty leaf. The rooms are a nice size with comfy beds, refrigerator, dish network TV, robes and slippers and great shower gel and loofah. For those who like to keep active and stay in shape even while traveling their gym is equipped with one bike three treadmills weights three ellipticals and the bonus is they have two peloton bikes! A FEW MISSES There is a set of stairs to get from the check-in desk to the elevator so you have to drag your luggage up those stairs. Sometimes there may be a bellman there to assist. Elevators are very small.My bathroom area had a very very small counterspace. There were no towel racks near the sink to hang my washcloth. I was missing slippers this trip. Overall this is a good place to stay and you should enjoy your time here. read more

The bed provided me some of the best sleep I've ever had. Room service didn't miss a day of cleaning my room. It was perfect. This is definitely not a 4 star hotel and I don't think I would consider it a 3 star either. Upon our arrival, we thought the hotel was going to be really nice based on its lobby but we were very disappointed once we entered our room. When we opened the room door, we noticed there were huge scrapes all along the wallpaper and the room was really dark and dingy. The carpet was so outdated and looked like it should have been replaced about 10 years ago. It also had a huge black stain on it by the chair in the corner. The bathroom layout makes no sense and is so extremely tiny that closing the door is not an option. Claustrophobic people need to stay clear. There is a towel hook on the back of the bathroom door but there is no way to use it unless you close the door. Instead we had to hang our towels on the shower curtain rod, which resulted in water splashing all over the floor while showering in the tiny tub--- terrible design and layout, yet there are two large closets across from the sink, which makes no sense when that space could have been used to relocate the toilet or expand the size of the bathtub. I dreaded every shower I had to take in that tub. The tile in the bathtub was filthy and the grout needed a deep cleaning. The tub had a lot of scratches in it that made me not want to step foot in it because I couldn't distinguish if it was dirt or deep scratches. In attempt to hide these mysterious marks in the tub, I placed a towel down since I did not plan to bring shower slippers to this "4 star" hotel. The bathtub isn't inviting at all and after a long day touring all DC's museums, it was the last place I wanted to shower barefoot. I must say, even though I cringed during every second spent in the bathtub, the shampoo, conditioner and body-wash was the only pleasant part of the experience. Maybe this place was a 4 star hotel back in the 80s or 90s but it definitely is not a 4 star hotel today. I could see how this place could have been very nice once but everything needs updating. I have stayed in plenty of old boutique hotels before that were quaint and charming-- but this place is just old and outdated. Other than the terribly tiny bathroom and cringeworthy tub, the towels were all very clean. Also, the bedding was clean and comfortable which made our hotel stay bearable. The location is okay; it's not in Georgetown as stated in the name, and more on GWU's campus in Foggy Bottom. The metro is close by and the hotel is about 1 mile from the National Mall. When we return to DC, we will definitely be staying elsewhere. read more

Check in was a breeze. Our room was very nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. We ate dinner downstairs in the hotel at Jardenea and it was very delicious and the service was phenomenal. The following morning we ordered room service for breakfast and that was pretty darn good too! It arrived to the room in a little cardboard box. So unique! We were here to care for our granddaughter facing the battle of her life. The staff at Melrose bent over backwards to offer help and support in Whatever way they could. We were constantly amazed at their care for us. The rooms were beautifully appointed and the Pure rooms were an added benefit for our sick granddaughter. The Melrose Hotel is a two-star hotel in my opinion. Their bar does not have regular hours and not open late, their maid service only visits your room every other night, their "bell hop" doesn't really help with car services and you have to just call your own Uber or Lyft ride for large parties instead of them handling it for you. Waiters do not speak English very well. NOT a high end hotel with high end services. No microwave in your hotel room. Small and dated bathrooms, wallpaper peeling off the walls. read more

Hotel: Beautiful lobby and decor is upscale throughout hotel. Only downside was my floor had some very loud guests. Room: Very clean and spacious. I like that the toilet and shower are separate from the sink. There is a lovely sitting area in the room along with a desk area. Beds are comfortable, surprisingly the sheets are low quality (percale most likely) and pillows are a little on the hard side for me. Front desk: Polite and efficient, only one staff member. Valet: They were not around when I pulled up so when I checked in at the front desk they called valet. It's more expensive than most hotels in DC at $48/night. Valet is available 24 hours a day though. Room service: You can preorder breakfast on a sheet and leave it on your door by 3am. I got the brioche French toast ($14) which was delicious! Having been to D.C. 6/7 times in the past 18 months, I've gotten pretty good at figuring out where to stay, what's important during my visit and how to make myself comfortable. The Melrose contributed greatly to my most recent visits' enjoyment and comfort. Here's what I found appealing: Cold A/C in the common areas and room - nice for a warm D.C. summer visit. Spacious room, nicely appointed. Comfortable bed & pillows. Quiet. Fast elevators! Coffee 12' from the elevator (in lobby) for early morning caffeine. Location was excellent for my needs. Friendly and helpful doormen and front desk help. If anything could use improvement, it would be the bar help at happy hour. Not bad, but really strange. On two separate visits, I found the bartenders to be a bit disengaged - especially the young lady working. I noticed she was friendlier to other patrons offering happy hour suggestions, but I just got a blank stare a few times. Oh well, maybe I looked like just another goofball who was in D.C. moving my college kid into her dorm? Overall, I loved the place and had a great stay. 4.5 stars. It's disclosed in the fine print when you book but this is nothing but a pure money grab and a way for the hotel to look cheaper when comparing it to other area properties. I just stayed here for three nights and was very pleased. Loved the room-especially the bed! I usually wake up with pains all over, but not after staying here. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Nice historic hotel. Very unique I stayed in a suite with a couch and dinner table very nice but if you are tall over 6'1 this furniture is for short legs. But suite was large and spacious had a nice view of the city. But furniture need to be sized for at least 6'1 or taller better to big than small. read more

If you consider finding a mouse trap with a dead mouse inside at 1:00 A.M. a nice perk then the Melrose is the place for you. I found the mouse while I was trying to find where the ants were coming from. Hotel didn't have any rooms to move me so I got a horrible nights sleep before an important meeting. The night manager offered me a discount on my complimentary breakfast. I replied I don't choose to eat at places with rats. The meals I had before I knew Ratatouille was the executive chef were not awesome. For $300 plus a night I expect better quality than a roadside motel. So gross. read more

So, this is a nice hotel. This was our base for our week of touristy activities. They serve coffee and hot water for tea in the lobby in the morning till 11 or so. They've got a nice gym with very nice equipment, as well as a cold and hot water dispenser. Our room had a solid (heavy) door, which was misaligned, and you had to give it a slight kick or yank to open it. Room had a safe built into one of the drawers to keep your important stuff somewhat secure. Not recommended for stuff you cannot lose. We arrived tired and hungry after 11:30 PM. Luckily we found George's King Falafel a few blocks away opened till 1AM. Otherwise, this hotel is close to bus and metro stops for easy access to the various touristy locales you may want to see. A close hike to National Mall if you're into walking a lot. We ended up using the DC Circulator a lot cause it's only a $1 each ride, with a 2 hr window for transfers. But that ended up making us walk more to our destinations. If we were to do it again, we'd just take the regular buses to save on walking and only use the Circulator for around the National Mall areas. This hotel was designated as a historic sight a couple months after we'd made our reservations, which they used to charge us the extra fee for the historical site maintenance, Oi vey. Of note, the bathrooms do not have a ventilation fan. Anyway, we enjoyed our time here. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a broken toilet paper holder and a missing button on the shower curtain which made showering a leaky experience. The holder was fixed quickly when we reported it. We wanted to wait for regular cleaning to replace the curtain, but it took an extra call when we returned in the evening and noticed it wasn't replaced, guess the word got lost to the day shift staff. Overall an enjoyable experience and one we'd do again if coming back to town. read more

What a gem of a hotel! Upon arrival we were greeted by two gentleman who took our bags and valeted our car. The lobby area had a series of well designed living rooms to relax and feel welcomed. We had been driving forever by the time we arrived, and were frustrated with traffic etc. I was telling the front desk about our travels & he called room service and had two glasses of wine ready for us. That took the edge off a crazy day for sure! I was equally delighted to see the spacious room, comfortable bed and well designed bathroom. The accommodations, the staff and the walkable area make this hotel a fabulous find for any traveler! read more
