Things went okay until the end. It was my first time staying here. I was quickly greeted and checked in. I even enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine before heading up to my room, which was a nice way to forget about my flight. The hotel seems a little tired in the lobby and hallways. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the rooms. They were spacious, comfortable and well maintained. I did have any issue with the TV remote not working. It wouldn't change channels. Probably needed fresh batteries. I called early in the evening and they promised me someone would be up to fix it. I never had anyone come by. This was a big miss for me. Don't make a promise and not follow through. My biggest complaint was on checkout. I needed a receipt but they said they were running an audit and couldn't provide one. They couldn't even email me one. I really needed the receipt but the front desk receptionist-Chris was what he called himself, was rude and unhelpful. I even needed a taxi and he seemed put out to have to help me. This is not the level of service I expect from a hotel like this. read more

I really wanted to love this hotel because the pictures were beautiful. I'm person though - not great. Carpet was dirty, the bathroom glass shower door was coming off the wall burn screws, bathroom mirror lights wouldn't stay on, the bathroom door was a slider and huge gaps where you could see in. First night there we pulled out the couch bed and there were dirty socks underneath - so clearly it hadn't been cleaned well. Everything was just lacking the extra effort - it was all dusty and worn. On our second day there was a well used, adult dirty diaper sitting outside by the steps to go in. We saw it all throughout the day so clearly no effort was made to be presentable. Could use lots of TLC for sure. Location was fine though. read more

I love Kimpton, but the George is currently renovating their restaurant. No meals, no room service, etc. Rooms are comfortable, but small. Staff is the same at every Kimpton - top notch. Valet parking in the city is a must. Location isn't the best, convenient to Capitol Hill and Union Station, but that's about it. read more

I have to say my stay here has been very pleasant. I was quite surprised on the facilities here, very comfortable bed, Sheets are amazing, towels are soft and clean. The room was spotless. Staff wet out of there way to ensure I had a good day. Only problem was of the two elevators only one worked. That was the most annoying part as you have to wait 10 to 15 for an elevator. Great location a short walk from Union Station & the Capital. Our king room was lovely. The marble bathroom with a separate tub & shower was wonderful! Comfortable bed, great sheets. Having an in room Nespresso machine was a lovely touch, as was real classes & coffee cups. I was worried about being near the elevator, but it was very quiet. Our first 2 mornings the breakfast was very sparse, but then apparently a delivery was made & it had plenty of choices. A highlight was the evening wine hour--and front desk staff Sydney was a wonderful hostess. We had fun mingling with the other guests, sharing stories of our day, and getting dinner recommendations. Our week's stay was marred by broken, basic hotel room and equipment and unresponsive staff who took days to respond to requests to repair them. The single USB power strip didn't work. It took 3 days for someone to finally repair it even though we asked every morning and afternoon. Light bulbs were burned out in the bathroom; I ended up replacing them myself after asking several times. The $12.99 WiFi advertised on Expedia was a lie. Instead we were charged $32.99 a day for reasons that are still not clear. Management said they would remove three of those charges for our troubles but never did. I finally submitted a charge-back to my visa. Overall, this was not the experience I expected from an IHG property. The hotel itself was clean but shabby. I expected a much better hotel experience for an IHG property, especially when we paid IHG prices. read more

It's V-I-R-G-O season, so you know we just had to stay somewhere official. Accommodations: Premium Room, 1 King Bed with Sofa bed - 8th floor. NICE. Very nice. This room was spotless! Absolutely no dust, dirt, or stains were found during my first of several scrub downs. (I have always traveled with cleaning/disinfectant products.) This was a great first impression for a hotel. One of the great amenities of this hotel includes a FREE happy hour for hotel guests. We arrived in time to enjoy Whiskey Wednesdays. Enjoying wine is still an option. Each room is stocked with @atelierbloem skin and haircare products for your use. There's also a fitness center with plenty of equipment (including a Pelaton!) and workout options to suit your workout needs. The restrooms are pristine. Super helpful staff includes: DANIEL (front desk) - Reservations were made in advance, so my check-in was easy-peasy. He explained the amenities and such, and we were on our way. EPHREM (bartender) - Our gracious host during the weekend happy hour. The set up was done nicely and he explained our wine and spirit options. We already can't wait to return! Pro tip/Gentle reminder: You are near Union Station, so be mindful of the riff-raff in the area. They don't necessarily lurk about in the shadows, but they are present and bold enough to approach you to panhandle. Disappointing. Not up to Kimpton standards, but they charge Kimpton prices. The staff is very kind, but the property looks shabby. Worn carpet, needs painting and general sprucing up. In our room, the sliding door to the bathroom was very difficult to move and the shower head needs replacing. The fitness room is above average for its equipment, but like the rest of the hotel, looks shabby. The elevators look dirty, adding to the overall shabbiness. read more

This hotel is absolutely, undeniable AMAZING!!! The George is easily in the top five of the best hotel I have ever stayed, both in the US and abroad! I picked this hotel on a whim and I am so glad I did, my stay was very enjoyable! The decor of the hotel is gorgeous. Personally, I love cobalt blue and gold is the perfect accent to the rich color. All of the decor, pictures, and other accent pieces played well into the George Washington theme. From the lobby, to the hallways to the actual rooms, the color scheme and theme continues. Our actually room was equally gorgeous and OMG, the bed was soooo comfortable! I swear, it was very hard to depart from my bed at checkout time. Thank God checkout wasn't until 12pm, which was also a HUGe plus for me. But the hotel wasn't just appealing aesthetically, the George was also very clean. I was surprised at the cleanliness of every inch of the hotel we touched. With Covid numbers increasing once again, this is of the upmost importance for any hotel stay! Lastly, I was also thoroughly impressed with the staff who were all equally amazing. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. My family and I did a short DC weekend getaway. Kimpton George was not only reasonably priced but very close to Central Station. This was a bonus for us as we rode the Amtrak into town. The hotel itself has a perfect DC theme and despite not being the fanciest in town, the people there make it a must-stay destination. The staff at Kimpton George make you feel like family! Never before have I stayed in a hotel that checks in on you throughout your stay to see if you need anything or simply to see if your stay is going well. As an added bonus, they offer a wine hour daily (we were served by Ephrem... he's the best!) and comp $10 in Uber trips daily, providing receipts. We would 100% stay again, our new home away from home. read more

My un-hospitable stay at the Kimpton George lasted 3 unfulfilling days. The hotel is wonderful, great property, clean, neat, and slightly boutique. But for whatever reason people were hyper-fascinated with my presence there as a guest, though I spent 90% of the time comfortably inside of my room. Nevertheless, that did not stop the targeted malice of others. One morning, beginning shortly after 8AM, housekeeping tried to enter my room several times between 8:05 and 8:25 - they just kept coming back again and again. I was asleep! I would not engage them because 1. there was a Do Not Disturb sign on my door, and 2. I should not have to wake up, get out of bed, answer the door to strangers to have a conversation with ANYONE! Period! There's a DO NOT DISTURB SIGN! It's there for a reason! Please LEAVE ME ALONE! STOP! And since they kept coming back, refusing to accept that I was not going to engage them under any circumstances, I began to record each time they returned, opened my door, and tried to rattle the door until someone responded to them. Which, in this case, was never, because I refused to. I'm a solo female traveler, I shouldn't be awaken and terrorized by a whole team (there were 3 voices outside of the door) of housekeeping staff at 8 in the morning and made to feel prodded and attacked while a guest at a $400/night hotel. That is just unacceptable on every level imaginable. I can't fathom how all of the people gathered in the hallway outside of my door, discussing why I won't get out of bed and come to the door talk to them while they have used their house key to open it WITHOUT ANYONE'S PERMISSION, felt comfortable terrorizing me, alone in my room, in this way. What horrible people! What on earth man? I called down to the front desk to notify the manager on duty, Ibrahim, that I was basically being harassed by his housekeeping crew, and as a courtesy, Ibrahim did discount my last day there to $380 for the inconvenience. Which I do appreciate. I truly do. And then later that evening my cable went out and the engineer had to come to the room to troubleshoot the TV. And then sometime after that, room service knocked on the door with a dinner that I didn't order. Oh, and can't forget to mention that there were kids roughhousing in the hallway, whom also decided that they would knock on my door and then run down the hall. Except, I happened to get to the door in time to catch one of them - and I happily took a photo of him/her/they/whatever the child's gender is. So since it was on everyone's list of priorities to provide as stressful an experience as possible for me while a guest at Kimpton George, it was on my list of priorities to relay this entire experience to all future guests who are looking to plan a vacation in Washington, DC, and are looking for a peaceful experience at a hotel at the top of its game in hospitality. Great location on Capitol Hill, walking distance to the Capitol Building and Union Station. A few restaurants dotted around, but I struggled to find much beyond fancy-ish steak houses on a Friday night. This area caters to M-F, 9-5 crowd I guess, as many restaurants that came up on Google Maps were closed until the following Monday. The boutique hotel is small, but unique; classy but with fun little twists that are common with Kimptons. Checking in was fast and friendly. My room was bigger than I expected, already cooled for my arrival (bless the heat wave I landed in). Bed was comfy and bathroom had a tub and a shower. Lots of plugs and USB outlets, too - super handy. Everything clean and orderly as you would expect from this chain. Free wifi worked a treat in the room, lobby and the restaurant. I arrived during their free happy hour (wine and beer) and the server was super friendly and encouraged me to come back for refills if I liked (nice that seconds are not frowned upon). I took my drink upstairs with me as I was only just checking in after a long travel day, which also was thankfully not frowned upon. I picked this spot due to its proximity to Union Station where I had a train to catch early the next day; otherwise I'd likely stay closer to Penn Quarter where the majority of attractions are (but even then only a 15 min walk) read more

I wanted to like this place, as there were some very positive aspects of our stay there. Unfortunately, also some negative things. Pros: -Location: right next to Union Station. Convenient if arriving by train -Rooms: Room was clean, nicely appointed and bed was very comfortable -Service. We requested a crib, early check in and late check out and were offered each. Cons: -Location: There is literally nothing in the immediate vicinity. I got sick and needed to get over the counter medication and had to take an Uber 25 minutes away. $50-$60 for round trip just to get meds. -No breakfast. We were under the impression that a complimentary breakfast would be available but this turned out not to be the case. The only options were to go to the hotel's restaurant or to one of the few restaurants nearby. But we just wanted a simple breakfast and nothing huge of expensive. I wish they would offer even a basic breakfast of fruit, toast, yogurt and cereal. -Service. Service was friendly and professional overall, however, one thing that really upset us was when we asked for extra blanket / sheets three times (both by phone and in-person), were told by the person at the front desk that someone would come to drop them off, only for nothing to ever happen. No one came by. I felt lied to and honestly, this is the most basic request a hotel should be able to honor. -Room. There was a large sofa that was positioned in such a way that it impeded my path to my side of the bed. It had a metal rod in the corner that anchored the sofa to the floor. Needless to say, I stubbed my toe on this rod three times while trying to walk into bed at night (when lights were off). I wish people would test out the rooms and think about these things before subjecting guests to this. -No information guide. This is maybe the first hotel I've stayed in where there wasn't an information book in the room that contains info on hotel amenities and things to do in the surrounding area (not much as it turns out; though the Capitol building is close by which is cool) ... but despite all these negatives, at least our room came with a yoga mat.... read more

I've stayed in a lot of shoddy hotels while in DC over the years, but this Kimpton George Hotel isn't one of them. The location is ideal, just a stone's throw away from the Hill and many other prominent government buildings. Overall ai appreciate thr comfortable beds, modern amenities, and occasional good rate. Like most things in DC the hotel isn't all that large. The lobby, rooms, and amenities are solid but in line with the modestly spaced hotel rooms in the area. I recall the hotel being somewhat dated during my first stay close to a decade ago. I'm not sure when the renovations happened, but they certainly did a nice job getting the place up to speed. I've found the bathrooms to be pretty clean and the beds + pillows seem to have improved. Service is good overall and made my stay, as well as others with me feel welcomed and comfortable. The rooms I've stayed in usually range anywhere from $110-180 a night. For anyone groaning at the latter half of the price spectrum, this is a pretty common rate range for DC proper. I've found that they're a bit more likely to drop, especially during the cold months. read more

Clean rooms and nice area. The staff was very friendly and hotel was very nice inside. The shower pressure was so off, I think the shower head needed to be cleaned. But the water got really hot. I thought for the price we paid, it would be a better shower but it wasn't. The pillows were horrible and hurt our necks . For the price we paid (one night was $700 and the other was $200, not sure why the prices were so different), I thought it would have been nicer. No microwaves in the room, but you have a mini fridge. Just for the price alone, I wouldn't stay again (especially bc I stayed at a cheaper/nicer hotel around the corner). read more

Had to go to Washington DC for work and have never stayed here before. I was put in room 410. None of the electrical outlets in the bathroom work. The closet is tiny and you can't use the drawers to put things away because when you open the cabinet doors the the bed is in the way, so they don't open fully and the drawer won't pull out. They had no food of any kind available on Sunday. Not worth the money but a good location. read more

Love, love this hotel. We booked 6 months in advance through a third party work website (not Kayak) and I was a little nervous that the reservations would hold through but... they did! I called a few days before to confirm and request an early check in. They politely accommodated as I mentioned this was our honeymoon trip. As a boutique, concierge is there strong point. They suggested a free cheese tray for our room which I gladly accepted but we ended up with a chocolate cake and bottle of wine. No complaints, though! My husband and I thought it was very kind with a hand signed card from the desk. Our room was the cutest, quaint thing with old school clocks, deep blue walls, George Washington script and modern George art. Hubs and I are political nerds so we adored the hotel. We did not partake in the nightly wine hour or the restaurant. We asked about the free bike share but unfortunately they were reserved for the weekend. I wish we would've known we could've reserved bikes but there are two Capital bike shares nearby. The location is perfect, nearby Union Station, the Corner Bakery, the Dubliner and most importantly for tourists, the US Capital building. read more

I've stayed at a few Kimptons and this one is ok, not the best one I've stayed at. Needs some updating. A few things in the bathroom looked pretty rundown. The bathroom door was warped, there's a light underneath the sink that was sticking out, the faucet needed to be replaced. The rug and the hallways were also pretty dated. I stayed in a deluxe queen queen sofa sleeper room, it seemed rather tight for the sleeper. The beds were comfortable. The temperature was hard to control, the air kept blowing even when the temperature was set high for heat. I had to put it on 82 to get some heat blowing, and even then it would still try to blow cool air. The location is very good, it's a short walk from Union Station and close to the Capitol. The staff was very friendly. As with other Kimptons, they have a wine happy hour in the lobby which is always nice. What makes this hotel is it's convenient location to Union Station, but otherwise it's pretty dated and needs some updates. It's not up the caliber I've come to expect from Kimpton hotels. I'm not sure if I would stay here again, I would probably try one of the other Kimpton hotels in the area before coming back here. read more

They accommodated an early check in which was great. Upon arrival we found out the overhead bin wouldn't fit into the garage associated with the hotel, the owner there named Solomon was super helpful in helping us find parking which ended up being free which was awesome. The hotel was clean, rooms were nicely decorated and they offered a free cocktail hour for guests! The hotel was conveniently located near the capitol building in a safe area. Absolute Perfection. I don't write over-the-top reviews. Go check. This place deserves it. When you check-in, you are treated by what might be the friendliest hotel staff either, but not in a cloying, irritating way, but in the way that makes you feel like they genuinely want your business and want to make your trip pleasant. Boy did they. After I checked in and they scheduled my included breakfast to be delivered to my room the next morning at the time of my choice, I was handed a glass of wine. And offers of help with my luggage. The room is spacious and nice, not ostentatious. The marble bathroom has both a bathtub AND glass-enclosed shower with I-dare-you-to-use-it all the way turned to hot water (pro tip, don't do it! It's hot & plentiful!) The Keruig is stocked with plenty of coffee & decaf, and the entire hotel is spotless. There were vacuum cleaner lines on the upholstered chair so you knew it was cleaned before you walked in. Oh, and the sheets? They're not advertised as anything special but they're delightfully soft. The front desk & staff are what make this hotel. Uber? Turn in your receipt for a $10 credit. Want to bike? They will bring one right up. And then they'll want to hear how your ride was. Need a cab? Or pretty much anything else? Yea, they'll do that too. Personable, personal, and professional service at every turn. The manager, Sergio was available and personable, but with staff this great, you don't need to talk to him... Hotel was pretty clean. Staff was fine, although we had little interaction with them. I would not return for 2 big reasons....the bed and pillows. Well I can definitely, Kimpton is probably one of the cutest hotels I have ever stayed at. It all started with a company trip, I was looking for hotels near the venue that I was planning an event for, and this was on the list of recommended hotels near by. I booked a room for me and my co worker and was pleasltly surprised once we got there. There were a couple itemst that instantly stuck out once I was there. The hotel design was very pretty and very themed, it really felt D.C. There were decor items with President Washington which I thought was a pretty cool feature. The staff were really nice when we were checking in and told us that there is a nightly wine hour, I think it was at 5 p.m. The room was large and clean, the bathroom was large. There was some parts which I thought in the bathroom could be cleaner. My overall take on the hotel was: good, clean and nice value for the price. read more

Not a bad hotel; good location for walk ability around the national mall etc. There is a nice bar/restaurant attached, but I didn't have time to try it. Offered some kind of social at 5pm, which sounded great, but sadly, I couldn't attend. They have a small fitness area; no pool or jacuzzi. They have direct TV with HBO. The few things I did t like was the elevators and hallways had a musty smell; very odd. The beds were okay, just okay. No real view, but oh well....you'll have to get out and explore. Overall, I'll be back when I have a longer stay and utilize some of the amenities and location. One of the nicer hotels if your staying on the Capitol side of DC. read more

Kimpton saved the day! Originally I had booked a room at the Holiday Inn by the mall area. Save yourself the hassle and do NOT go there. We decided to switch to the George Hotel and I'm so glad we did. We checked in around 9pm and were greeted by a friendly and helpful front desk associate. Our room was so wonderful. Very classy and comfortable. The room had a huge bathroom with plenty of counter space. I loved the Nespresso machine--nice touch! A perfect little morning pick me up before venturing out to get more coffee :-) The bed was so cozy and we slept so well. The location is wonderful. It's in a very walkable area. The door person was WONDERFUL. So professional and helpful. We loved our stay here and would recommend it to everyone. read more

When visiting the capital city of this great country it only seems right that we stay in a hotel that uniquely honors to the first president of the United States. That hotel is 'The George.' I'm not kidding you when I say that it honors George Washington. The whole hotel has a George theme... his face is all over the hotel - but not in tacky way. Each piece of art I saw had a different way of giving tribute to the Pres, which I thought was really cool and creative. Besides all the George artwork - the hotel is just beautiful. The lobby is clean and bright with comfy chairs for lounging. The hallway walls leading to the guest rooms are painted a striking blue and contrast with the striped black/white/blue carpet brilliantly. Our room, however, was totally tranquil with just a few pops of blue. Creamy walls, bold yet monochromatic wallpaper, white bed linens. The bathroom continued the theme with its white marble floors and dark wood counter top. The staff at the George is fantastic. Everyone we encountered was really really nice. Blair, Greta and Devlin (I really hope I got all their names correct!) were especially great. And maybe we just picked a good weekend - but we found the hotel to be totally quiet which was nice. The street had little weekend traffic, and thanks to some good acoustics we didn't hear our neighbors in the next room or anyone in the hallway. My only complaint for George was for the AC/heating in the room. The thermostat is easy enough to work... but if we kept it lower than 70 it ended up being freezing in the room (the bed was located directly across from the vent.) If we raised it to even 71 - the heat came on. Weird and a little frustrating. But not enough to ruin our stay here, I would absolutely stay again. A few other notes: It's true - there is a Keurig machine in the room with both coffee and tea k-cups. If you sign up for the Kimpton rewards program you get free WiFi throughout the hotel and a $10 Mini Bar credit which we used to score a couple Honest Tea's for the ride home. Parking on site is valet only and will cost you (after taxes) about $53 a night. We parked in the garage across the street (opens at 5:45am and closes at midnight). For two nights it cost us $33 total, which is much better than the $106 it would have cost us at George. Parking garage staff had no problem letting us park once they confirmed we were guests at the hotel and simply told us "just don't park in a reserved spot." No problemo. read more

The George doesn't disappoint and they treat their guests VERY well. They accommodated a 8am Friday Check-in! That evening, after a day of sightseeing we returned to handwritten note, a bottle of wine, and a small pastry from the Corner Bakery to welcome us the The George and to DC. They are the first "smaller" hotel facility we've stayed at and were a little wary of the boutique-ish nature, but we were delightfully amazed and the quality of our stay. They have everything, all the necessary amenities. I would have preferred name brand individual toiletries, like tiny souvenirs. I'm not really a fan of the refillable body wash, shampoo, and conditioners. These dried out my skin. Fortunately, I did bring my own, so I was set. The decor is so garish, but so very cool. They do a nightly happy hour, free wine and socialization. They have the Bistro Bis attached, which is a pretty nice french cuisine spot. read more

This is such a great Washington themed hotel. I absolutely love the room with the blue gold throw pillow like a colonial outfit. The Constitution Wall really screams, "hey, you're in the Nation's freaking capital" which is so cool. I love the candle style lights in the bathroom. I don't really recall the customer service. The hotel is only a few blocks from Union Station. There is a restaurant downstairs attached to the hotel where CBSN tapes its webcast Friday mornings. read more

WAY too pricey for what you get. Sheesh. 1. No fan in the bathroom, which is RIGHT next to the bed 2. Doubled checked the booking website to get a queen bed with a bathroom that had a separate tub/shower...definitely paid for that kind of room. Didn't get it. Got the SMALLEST room -- I mean you couldn't walk around the bed small. 3. Huge water stain on the ceiling, gross stain in the toilet 4. Someone else's hair in the shower when we arrived...gross. 5. No movies! I'm serious. No movies to rent in the room. It's a hotel?! What?! Overall super underwhelmed with this hotel and won't be staying here again. read more

This is a really quaint boutique hotel conveniently located close to all those judicial constitutional governmental buildings! Free wine tastings in the afternoon (which you can take up to your hotel room!) The bf and I stayed for a few days while we were doing the whole tourist thing in DC. Everything was clean, the hotel smelled good, and there was a horse lamp in the lobby area. I thought it was cute and fitting that the hotel was George Washington themed. There were a lot of thoughtful touches all throughout the hotel that gave it a whole lot of personality. Notes: - there is no hotel parking so we were told to park across the building in the structure. Kind of sucked because 3 days of parking in there cost us over $50. Take that into consideration. - but once you're there, it is so easy to get around the city using the electric scooters or lyft/uber! - during our stay, one night the fire alarm went off at 5am. It was strange because they never told us what happened and everyone was really calm. Glad it wasn't an actual emergency but I would have liked more clarification the next day over why we were woken up. Overall, thought this place was cute, good value for what it was, and would definitely consider staying again if I was ever in the area! read more

I booked a room over the phone and was quoted the same rate found on the internet. However, when I received the confirmation email, the rate was more than $30 more per night. When I called the hotel back, they said the original rate was no longer available unless I would be willing to take a handicap room. Sam, the front desk manager, refused to talk to the agent I had spoken with no more than 10 minutes earlier. He said accept the higher rate or he would be willing to cancel my reservation. Clearly, this is a bait-and-switch tactic. I expected this cheating behavior from Washington politicos, but not from a four star hotel. So I canceled the reservation and booked the original rate online. They should be embarrassed that they cannot see internet rates. Wake up and become internet savvy and customer centric. Hopefully, their rooms will be better than their service and the front desk manager will be fired before I arrive. read more
