I stayed at the Hotel Lombardy on a recent business trip. Overall, the two nights I spent at the hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue in Foggy Bottom were decent. Most of the amenities were good, and the location was perfect for where we were meeting at the 2000 Penn Building across the street. However, certain elements kept it from being perfect. For where we spent most of our time between Foggy Bottom and Georgetown, Hotel Lombardy was close to everything, no more than 10 to 15 minutes with an Uber ride. The doormen and most of the staff were friendly and polite. I appreciated a doorman being holding the door open for me when I arrived close to 11 PM on a Sunday night. Checking in was super easy, taking no more than a couple of minutes. The interior was very elegant and classy for the lobby and first floor; small but very elegant with its vintage crystal chandelier, red velvet chairs, and oil paintings. There is a bar and lounge that almost has an Indian energy to it and serves most spirits that you may want for a cocktail or neat pour. I didn't imbibe alcohol on this trip, so I couldn't experience that, but it looked cool. The Cafe Lombardy back towards the front of the lobby hotel on the lobby floor offers at least breakfast in the morning -- and complimentary breakfast if you order it with your hotel room when you book. Just note that if you include the complimentary breakfast, you're limited to the Breakfast Lombardy, which is two eggs with a choice of meat, toast, and potatoes. The eggs were good, and the bacon was ok, but I didn't touch the latter two items. The service could have been faster and more communicative, which was part of why I forewent the second day. Upon taking the narrow elevator up to the seventh floor, my room comprised a fairly spacious suite with a small doorway once you opened the plantation door (a very stylish, colonial touch for each of the rooms on every floor) and the main door. There was the main bedroom with a king-sized bed, large glass desk, a dresser, with at least four lamps. The doorway and vanity table area had light switch dimmers that was nice if you wanted not to have the lights being a full brightness. There was a sliding door closet and the bathroom that had a shower bathtub, with a vanity table, mirror, and seat in between the former two that was great to apply facial products and do my hair. Additionally, there was an additional room that had a table and a kitchenette station for if you wanted to have coffee or order grab anything from the mini bar to charge to the room. However, while the master bedroom had a regal look and appearance as well as the vanity station, the kitchenette station in the second room was bare and made you feel like you walked into some extended stay hotel where dreams died. The bathroom had some good counter space to place your toiletries in addition to the sink. The bath soap and shampoo were ok to use in the shower, but the drain wasn't draining well when I took a shower in the morning. The toilet had a jigger that sometimes got stuck and didn't fill up the tank until you jiggled with it. While the king-sized bed was very comfortable and the lighting needed to be more adequate, the TV was very limited channel-wise, with an inferior reception for most stations available. While I didn't mind that there were no streaming options, not being able to watch TV without seeing static and hearing bad feedback properly was disappointing. Additionally, there are also the sounds of a car or truck occasionally honking in the middle of the night or someone shouting outside that can wake you up. Overall, there are more advantages than disadvantages with staying at the Lombardy, especially, with its convenient location to the activities and business I was engaged during my short stay.

This hotel is a true gem! The service was incredible door greeter, water delivered at night, restaurant onsite, what more could you want? The location was perfect for visiting George Washington University, with all the DC attractions being within a 2 mile walking distance or short Uber ride. The rooms were perfect size with a comfy bed, good AC, ceiling fan, hot shower with great pressure. Most major hotels no longer offer daily housekeeping and Lombardy still does. This hotel is a renovated apartment building and has such great charm.

We had a positive experience at Hotel Lombardy. Prices are not cheap but I think on par with what's expected for NW DC. We booked the cheapest room (superior king) but unbeknownst to us, we got upgraded to a room that was bigger and even had two small sitting areas. The only reason I found out was because a couple we knew also stayed in the hotel the same weekend (this was planned). They happened to stop by our room and marveled at how much bigger ours was. So that was a pleasant though unplanned surprise. The front desk told me each room does come with mini fridge. Of the two sets of elevators, one is definitely much smaller so having even three people in it feels tight. There's only valet parking but hopefully you won't need a car in DC since Ubers are galore (and there are generally some taxis in front of the hotel) and the nearest metro stop is close by. There's also a doorman which is helpful although we didn't need much assistance. The water pressure in our shower was happily potent. Unfortunately I found out when trying to call the front desk that I was not able to reach them or housekeeping using the room phone. It seems like those calls just didn't go through so I ended up having to reach the front desk using my cellphone. We just needed an extra bar of soap and someone did bring it up pretty much right away. Overall, we had a great experience here and would come back. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on their food. Breakfast is not included.

    Amazing breakfast at Hotel Lombardy.

Excellent overall experience at Hotel Lombardy for college graduation weekend. Charming boutique hotel that is spotless clean, and well kept. The location is perfect, with superlative service and very polite and attentive staff. An added bonus, our breakfast in the hotel restaurant was the best. If I lived in the area, I would definitely be coming here on a regular basis for breakfast.

    Dim hallway. Dated carpets.

We stayed for one night only. There is enough room for about 3-4 cars right out front for unloading. The doorman/valet guy was friendly and attentive but cautioned us not to leave our car unattended too long. Valet parking costs money but we parked elsewhere in a garage. Check-in was super easy, no wait, and the hotel seemed mostly vacant, which was perfectly fine with us. The hotel is old and somewhat renovated. Some of the legacy features still exist like a tiny tiny elevator for literally two people and another own slightly bigger. Mirrors help give the illusion of a bigger space than it is. Most of the lighting is dim. The hallways are spacious but also dim. Room doors have a louvre fire door. The faucet in our bathroom leaked water and trickled into the sink. The shower was strong and had a long duration for hot water. The view from our room was to the alley with dumpsters aplenty. Checkout was easy as well--brief wait and efficient service. I would stay here again simply for its convenience to the downtown area.

We have never stayed here before so this hotel ended up being an unexpected delight. The rooms in the hotel itself are beautiful. The café downstairs is especially charming. But more importantly, the service here was exceptional. Edith, the housekeeper, was incredibly friendly and helpful. She has been here 28 years which says a lot. Mohammed in the Venetian room downstairs was also very accommodating and welcoming to guests. Gamil in the café, was very professional and made us feel at home. The food was also very good and worth every penny. We will definitely come here every time we need to visit Washington DC. While this is two blocks away from the nearest metro, The exceptional service, beautiful rooms, and overall experience makes this stay absolutely worth it in comparison to a big box hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised Came here to stay one night in DC . Booked it via Booking.com. I chose this place to be close to the Renwick Museum near the White House ... most places were 300 and up per night and other boutique/trendy hotels in the area that I normally like to stay in had bad reviews . We were literally 4 blocks walking distance to White House and maybe 4 more blocks to the National Mall near the National Monument . Get some good walking gear and you are set to see some sights/ visit museums !! Lol This is a historic hotel with a 1920's feel. Even though - it was historic - place was well maintained, clean and has lots of character. Door men greet you and assist you. there is a valet. $42 plus tax ... like $48-50 bucks for your car to stay overnight. FYI - all the hotels in the area will charge you 45-50 bucks to overnight your car Check in was easy Two elevators... one very tiny and a larger size one next to it. Rooms had cool wood screen doors that open before you open the actual door with your room card Room was very clean We had two double beds. Beds were comfy. We slept like babies. Bathroom was decent. Shower had. Good water pressure. Clean for a all white bathroom . No fan inside bathroom tho to help with condensation or ventilation . Bring your POOP-pouri with you if you are coming with someone . Lol There was a cute vanity station for the ladies . Very cute although The lighting is dim in there and in order to put on makeup etc- u are better off in the bathroom. There was a business desk, a decent TV and also a mini kitchen. With two seats and breakfast table Ice - if you want it- all front desk and they will bring it up to you There are no frills - no spa, no pool , no rooftop bar but unless you actually want those things then you would be paying more for that in the area All staff were extremely friendly and helpful My only gripe is that as soon as 9am came... banging /construction started below and the walls were thin enough to hear that. I called the front desk- the were very apologetic but by the time they got the workers to stop banging , I was already fully awake and unable to go back to sleep. Very annoyed with that. At the same time- the cleaning lady came by at 9am . Yeah we didn't put the sign up on the door handle and she was apologetic when she knocked . But It was made the morning worse with the banging. Mind you - you can hear the vacuum in the hallway . Yeah so unless that changes when you visit - then expect to wake up at 9am. lol Complimentary water x 2 given CVS and Wawa nearby for snacks if you don't want to pay $5 for a can of Coke etc :) There is a "Venetian bar" that opens at 4pm. Serves wine only no cocktails Saw a small restaurant also near the lobby/check in but I didn't eat there Anyway Other than the noise at 9am - I enjoyed my stay and would come back again

    Tiny but very white bathroom

Excellent location, quiet, quaint, but with spacious rooms and excellent service. The mark of a great hotel is in it's staff. This one tops the pile. My husband and I went out for a date night and decided, on a whim, to stay overnight somewhere downtown. After hemming and hawing on Yelp, we elected Hotel Lombardy, booked through booking.com, and walked over from Foggy Bottom. It's a fantastic location, by the way. FYI: Every hotel in the area charges ~$50/night to valet your car. Self-parking isn't great in the area so we actually parked in a garage about 7 blocks away overnight, as we were downtown for a show at the Kennedy center. The hotel is beautiful, the doorman was exquisitely polite, within 25 minutes of booking, our reservation was in the system. We were greeted by a receptionist who was professional, polite, and I didn't even have to show them my reservation, it was already there. WIN. The hotel is well-done. Small, but extremely well laid out, tastefully decorated--nothing sticks out, but in a good way--and impeccably clean. The elevator is tight, but newer, quiet, and, again, clean. I cannot imagine fitting more than one person in along with a wheelchair and a bag or two, but it was just us, so plenty of room. We were assigned a room on the 7th floor with a king-sized bed and sitting room. We walked into a narrow hallway featuring a small wetbar, a mirror, and the door to the bathroom. It was well-lit. The hotel is historic, from the 20s. The small touches give it away. The windows have been updated--the rooms are exceptionally quiet. All of the doors are very thick as is the carpet. I thought the entire floor was unoccupied until we left in the morning! The sitting room is quaint and faced out onto the square. The bedroom window faced an inner courtyard. This keeps the sounds down as well when the streets get busy. The linens are excellent. I always inspect the bed, and I found not a stray crumb, hair, or any other indecipherable horror. The bed was firm (how I prefer them to be), but not so firm as to be uncomfortable. There is tons of storage space and the mini-bar is well-stocked. If you had children, this is an ideal location to stay because the bathroom and sitting room are outside the bedroom, and all have their own doors. I could easily have put a pull out cot and a crib in the sitting room. Yes, there is that much space. There is a restaurant downstairs that we were itching to try, but we had an appointment that we were late for the next morning. The only downside is that WE found that the bathroom wasn't that well stocked and, unfortunately, the tub was backed up and not draining well. Standing in sitting water makes you loathe to take a luxurious shower! The room had only one hand towel and very few other toiletries--this is not an issue if you're a normal traveler and not a weirdo who just decides to go to a hotel with nothing! The staff quickly brought additional towels, lotion, and they also provided toothbrush and toothpaste. This hotel is definitely a sleeper. In this location, I would prefer it over almost anything else. Though we live locally, if I had an occasion to stay downtown again, we would definitely come straight here!

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

This hotel is an 8 min walk to the White House. We arrived late on a Sunday and they have valet parking ($70/night). You could park yourself in a lot right across the street for only $30 but who knew? The room was small with 1 king bed, desk, ottoman type "chair/stool" BUT! It met our needs. The bathroom was spacious and the water was hot. It had a closet for our coats and a hallway which we utilized for luggage. The free coffee was Godsend and the free breakfast 6am-10am was perfect! Cereal, breads, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, sausage patties, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, juice and probably more. They had a lot of of options for even picky eaters. The buffet was clean and well stocked. When we came back from our event, we were harried to check out but the front desk staff was patience and gracious. We were able to sit in the nice lobby, with free wifi, and have a hot coffee. I highly recommend this hotel for its location, amenities and excellent customer service.

The staff was super friendly and I was able to check in early when I arrived super early in the morning. I stayed here for about a week and had no issues. I love the variety of our breakfast options for all types of eaters. The beds were super comfy along with the pillows. I would totally stay here again.
