    Rooftop season
    Melissa G.

Tis the season for rooftop vibes! This is a cute rooftop located on the top level of Thompson which is a Hyatt hotel. Came to pregame with a friend staying here before heading to a concert at Capitol One Arena. They have a happy hour (yes even on Saturdays) from 5-7 with some light bites and drinks. The view is nice and wraps around 2 sides of the building. They also have a private space for private parties. The prices are as expected for DC life. The happy hour is minimal but is good enough. I arrived right around 5 so it was slow but it definitely got packed within the hour. They had 2 bartenders on staff. I ended up getting a dirty martini and some dip. Both were decent but not remarkable. Would definitely go back.

Think before booking. I wrote below to manager after recent stay. Hello, I wanted to share some feedback from my recent 4 night stay at your hotel. I had high expectations because the hotel has a great design and location, but several things fell short of what I would expect at this price point and compared to other Thompsons I've stayed at. A few observations: * I specifically booked a King Corner Room based on the advertised amenities, but the room did not have the listed minibar, separate sitting area, or work area/desk. The room also did not appear to match the photos I had seen online. * The condition of the room was disappointing. The fabric headboard and curtains had significant staining, and there was visible damage to the bed frame and rug. The hotel is beautifully designed, but the upkeep does not seem to match the original quality of the property. It's a shame - I feel this location is at a pivotal point; either take care of it better or become a cheaper brand with different clientele. * I was offered an Amex Platinum upgrade (after asking), but the front desk actually offered to upgrade me to a smaller same cheaper/same price room, which was disappointing. It's almost like they tried to trick me and talk me into a downgrade. * The restaurant was understaffed. We had to wait to be seated while the hostess was away handling room service. After being seated, no one came to take our order for 10-15 minutes, and the hostess eventually came back to take it herself. She was pleasant and a hard worker, but trying to do too much. The food was good, but the service experience felt disorganized and like no one other than the hostess and food runner (think chef) really cared. * The rooftop bar has a great setting, but the drinks were not well made, and the last-call interaction felt unnecessarily abrupt and rude. I'm in my late 40s, but it was like I was back in college - they literally flipped on the lights and told everyone to leave immediately. Overall, I think the hotel has a lot going for it, but it feels like the operation, staffing, and maintenance need more attention and polish. Everything just seemed half baked and on the way downhill. I rarely write reviews, but was so bummed because I chose your hotel (and paid for a nicer room) over other options. As a frequent traveler and former DC resident, I travel often and hoped this would be a place I could come back to. Hopefully you can work to improve both the property and staff to their full potential.

This was a beautiful hotel. I'd definitely stay here again. I only took off a star because the wash cloths were dirty. The staff at the bar and the restaurant were so nice.

Let me start by saying the view at this place was amazing! Service was great, the staff was attentive and suggestive based on the menu. The spinach dip was creamy and was a good portion. Wings were good, had them with mumbo and sweet sauce. Can't wait to return!

From beginning to end my experience with everyone that worked at the Thompson was so kind and helpful.

I stay at this Thompson frequently for business (and play!) , and it continues to exceed my expectations. From the moment I arrive, I'm always greeted warmly by the staff, (Too many to name, because they are all GREAT!!) who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. The level of service is outstanding--everyone is friendly, professional, and attentive to any needs or requests. One of the first things I notice when I walk in is the inviting scent in the lobby--it's fresh, clean, and instantly makes the space feel welcoming and relaxing. It's a small detail, but it adds to the overall atmosphere and makes coming back after a long day feel even more comforting. The rooms are consistently clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it easy to unwind. The hotel's restaurants are another highlight. The food is always fresh, delicious, and well-prepared, making dining in a convenient and enjoyable option. The restaurant staff is just as wonderful as the rest of the team--friendly, attentive, and always ensuring a great dining experience. Whether it's breakfast at Surveyor to start the day, a relaxing dinner after work at the lobby bar or a small snack at the rooftop, the quality and service never disappoint. Even when my work takes me farther away, I still choose to stay here over other Hyatt locations because of the exceptional service, attention to detail, and overall comfort. It truly feels like a home away from home, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other business or leisure travelers looking for a welcoming and high-quality stay.

Roof top event: Great venue! Parking is a bit of a headache. Glad I wore flat shoes because we had to park and walk. They do have valet but the drop off line was long and no attendant present. When we left our friends that did valet had to go retrieve their own vehicles after waiting for a long time. The food was everything!! We were surprised how tasty everything was. Especially the gyro sliders. The bar staff seemed to be over whelmed. One even decided to go back and forth with my sister and I. I don't argue with men but he wanted to continue his unprofessional behavior, glad we had men in our group to deescalate the situation. Bar lines were super long and hectic, served by rude bartenders. One bar tender told the young lady ordering next to me she better have her order ready only to ask her to repeat it several times before she ever went to put the items into the kiosk and then forgot to make items she charged her for. Had me on my toes and ready to run off my groups order. Would have been efficient but the bartender was slower than expected, since she seemed to be rushing patrons for their orders. Overall the experience was cool, especially because we arrived before the rush and were able to grab a large table out on the roof top area. Beautiful view and a great vibe for our group. Out celebrating my husband's birthday!!

Part of the Hyatt Family of hotels, I stayed two nights at the Thompson in DC. This establishment is modern chic and I sincerely appreciate that it was very clean. Two friendly employees were at the front desk and greeted me warmly. Check in was quick and easy. I was provided with two bottles of water, which I desperately needed after such a long travel day. I had a nice quiet room at the end of the hall. I didn't mind the pretty walk because I'd rather not be placed near the elevator, plus I need to get my steps in :) One of the first things that I check before I settle into a guestroom, is how clean the bed sheets are, and how clean the bathroom is. Fortunately, both items were spotless! I read a review that a previous guest didn't like the shower setup....for me, I adjust the shower head so as to not splash water outside of the shower and I'd prefer not having a stinky shower curtain LOL Now other than being at home to sleep in my own bed, this was probably the best two nights of peaceful sleep that I've had LOL thanks to the quality mattress and pillows. Room temperature is easy to adjust to your comfort as well. DC has grown a lot since the last time I was here. Lots of luxury apartment buildings nearby this hotel and the streets are clean. This hotel is situated in a safe area with many eateries in walking distance. In fact, there's also a CVS nearby in case you need something. Before you leave, be sure to visit their rooftop bar and take in the views! Their friendly bartender makes great drinks. See their list of Happy Hour specials, including delicious food. For sure, I will return to this hotel the next time I'm in DC!! This was a great experience and all the employees were friendly and helpful.

Overall, a stylish, safe, and seriously fun stay. More details from my review on Google: Rooms: The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The turndown service was a lovely touch, and everything in the room was perfect throughout my stay. Safety: The hotel elevators felt extremely secure and high-tech. Guests must use a key card to access certain levels and floors, which added an extra layer of safety and peace of mind. It's a great security feature and made me feel very comfortable during our stay. Walkability: The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of plenty of things to do, as well as the locations I needed to access for work. The location made my stay easy and convenient. Food & drinks: The hotel restaurant and bar had a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, but everything felt extremely overpriced. Charging $24 for one drink is absurd. I enjoyed the experience overall, but the prices make it difficult to recommend. Noteworthy details: From the moment I arrived, I was treated like a regular. The staff made me feel genuinely welcome and at home-never like an outsider in an exclusive club. Their warm, down-to-earth hospitality made the experience truly special.

From check in to check out everything was smooth. Our room, though small, did not feel cramped…read more Everything was clean and tidy. Too bad stored blankets were unavailable for sleepers wanting more warmth than their traveling companions. We had to make a second request for one. May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits.
