Let me start by saying the view at this place was amazing! Service was great, the staff was attentive and suggestive based on the menu. The spinach dip was creamy and was a good portion. Wings were good, had them with mumbo and sweet sauce. Can't wait to return!

I stay at this Thompson frequently for business (and play!) , and it continues to exceed my expectations. From the moment I arrive, I'm always greeted warmly by the staff, (Too many to name, because they are all GREAT!!) who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. The level of service is outstanding--everyone is friendly, professional, and attentive to any needs or requests. One of the first things I notice when I walk in is the inviting scent in the lobby--it's fresh, clean, and instantly makes the space feel welcoming and relaxing. It's a small detail, but it adds to the overall atmosphere and makes coming back after a long day feel even more comforting. The rooms are consistently clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it easy to unwind. The hotel's restaurants are another highlight. The food is always fresh, delicious, and well-prepared, making dining in a convenient and enjoyable option. The restaurant staff is just as wonderful as the rest of the team--friendly, attentive, and always ensuring a great dining experience. Whether it's breakfast at Surveyor to start the day, a relaxing dinner after work at the lobby bar or a small snack at the rooftop, the quality and service never disappoint. Even when my work takes me farther away, I still choose to stay here over other Hyatt locations because of the exceptional service, attention to detail, and overall comfort. It truly feels like a home away from home, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other business or leisure travelers looking for a welcoming and high-quality stay.

Roof top event: Great venue! Parking is a bit of a headache. Glad I wore flat shoes because we had to park and walk. They do have valet but the drop off line was long and no attendant present. When we left our friends that did valet had to go retrieve their own vehicles after waiting for a long time. The food was everything!! We were surprised how tasty everything was. Especially the gyro sliders. The bar staff seemed to be over whelmed. One even decided to go back and forth with my sister and I. I don't argue with men but he wanted to continue his unprofessional behavior, glad we had men in our group to deescalate the situation. Bar lines were super long and hectic, served by rude bartenders. One bar tender told the young lady ordering next to me she better have her order ready only to ask her to repeat it several times before she ever went to put the items into the kiosk and then forgot to make items she charged her for. Had me on my toes and ready to run off my groups order. Would have been efficient but the bartender was slower than expected, since she seemed to be rushing patrons for their orders. Overall the experience was cool, especially because we arrived before the rush and were able to grab a large table out on the roof top area. Beautiful view and a great vibe for our group. Out celebrating my husband's birthday!!

Part of the Hyatt Family of hotels, I stayed two nights at the Thompson in DC. This establishment is modern chic and I sincerely appreciate that it was very clean. Two friendly employees were at the front desk and greeted me warmly. Check in was quick and easy. I was provided with two bottles of water, which I desperately needed after such a long travel day. I had a nice quiet room at the end of the hall. I didn't mind the pretty walk because I'd rather not be placed near the elevator, plus I need to get my steps in :) One of the first things that I check before I settle into a guestroom, is how clean the bed sheets are, and how clean the bathroom is. Fortunately, both items were spotless! I read a review that a previous guest didn't like the shower setup....for me, I adjust the shower head so as to not splash water outside of the shower and I'd prefer not having a stinky shower curtain LOL Now other than being at home to sleep in my own bed, this was probably the best two nights of peaceful sleep that I've had LOL thanks to the quality mattress and pillows. Room temperature is easy to adjust to your comfort as well. DC has grown a lot since the last time I was here. Lots of luxury apartment buildings nearby this hotel and the streets are clean. This hotel is situated in a safe area with many eateries in walking distance. In fact, there's also a CVS nearby in case you need something. Before you leave, be sure to visit their rooftop bar and take in the views! Their friendly bartender makes great drinks. See their list of Happy Hour specials, including delicious food. For sure, I will return to this hotel the next time I'm in DC!! This was a great experience and all the employees were friendly and helpful.

We were looking to stay in DC overnight near Nats park on a Saturday and we thought we should come back since we had a good stay last time. Coming in the valet stand was pretty backed up and took a few minutes for them to get to us. Check in was also a little rough. The person at the desk got us mixed up with someone else and we had to come back down to get our real room number. Room itself was ok but mostly clean. It seemed significantly smaller than the room we booked last time but it came with a balcony (2nd floor). Only thing we weren't fans of was the open shower. Lots of splashing on the bathroom floor. Checkout was a lot smoother and they were even nice enough to hold our bags while we went out. Valet was nice and quick retrieving our car as well. The experience was a little rougher than last time. Not sure if it has to do with the ownership change but something has definitely changed.

I had the honor of attending the State of the Union Address on March 7th and needed a place to stay afterwards I was not interested in staying in a dive nor in contracting bedbugs, so shopped around online and found Thompson which is owned by Hyatt. Everything was to perfection, from the doorman to check in to the room. The hotel was spotless, and every single person, at least thus far, has been most gracious and helpful. I've not eaten here nor enjoyed the bar as I was under time constraints. They provide valet parking, and I felt quite safe. Now for the price...$374.37 for one night. You get what you pay for and I have no regret.

The Thompson was awesome. From the was quick check in to the large, clean room, to the great lobby bar. All was tremendous. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bartender at the lobby bar, Blue, was outstanding. Highly recommended staying at this hotel.

The spa experience was amazing - it is tucked away inside of the hotel and has two levels. I had an early week appointment in the morning and there weren't many others in the shared spa areas which made for a very relaxing experience. I had the Zen body experience and throughly enjoyed. I also experienced the dry sauna and vitality pool which was very clean and relaxing. The staff frequently cleans the areas and removes towels, etc to keep the areas clean. It was easy to check in and the staff was courteous and honored my AMEX benefits which was nice. I stayed in a king bedroom with waterfront view (upgraded through my AMEX benefits) and the room was bright, airy, and clean. There is 24 hour room service and I ordered a late night pizza and it was delivered within 30 minutes. The water pressure in the bathroom was good in both the shower and tub and the water gets very hot (which I personally enjoy). I did also utilize the gym (new gym equipment and all the machines and accessories for various types of movement and activity) and indoor pool area. The only thing taking away from my experience was the amount of younger guests during my stay (which I know cannot be controlled) however lounging in the pool area was not as relaxing and during breakfast there were younger guests open mouthed coughing in the buffet line and touching the utensils so there were just some food items I did not feel comfortable eating. Overall I had a great stay and would definitely stay again, recommend for out of town guests, or to visit for the spa experience alone. Valet was $86 to park overnight as of 4/7 $$$

The lobby soundtrack casually bouncing from Chaka Khan to Aaliyah to Frank Ocean like it's my own curated Spotify playlist. Lighted closet bar racks so you can actually see what you packed. A phone holder next to the magnifying mirror in the bathroom (genius for getting-ready multitasking). Bedside light controls so you're not playing gymnastics to turn off the lamp. Then there's Matthew, the bartender, who improvised a "Matthew Cunningham Special" for me that I think included tequila, ginger beer, grenadine, juice, and somehow made it taste like vacation in a glass. The bell staff and front desk were the kind of friendly that feels genuine, not scripted. Add in cozy slippers, a Nespresso machine, a separate soaking tub, and beautiful DC artwork that reminds you how lucky we are to have this city... and suddenly it's the small details doing the heavy lifting. Luxury isn't always loud. Sometimes it's just really, really thoughtful. And after reading Sheila Johnson's book, I left not just impressed with the hotel, but proud of the woman behind it.

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

I thought that was a lot so we used points, and the 1st night they had not held our King Room for us, and despite being our anniversary, we had to sleep in a double room and move the next day. Unfortunately, the double room was quiet, and the King Room had an adjoining door and we heard every little thing from the room next door. I would put this down one point, but the service, staffing and helpful Concierge made this place really nice for us.

I'm not sure it's worth the price without the location, the hotel staff weren't particularly friendly or accommodating, and although the rooms were nice, certainly not luxury or as well kept as other JW MARRIOTT locations I've been to. As an Ambassador with Marriott, I was pretty dismayed that I was misled about my room type and sort of dismissed when I could have been in a more front facing room. Not sure I would stay here again unless I wanted a specific view of the George Washington monument.
