From check in to check out everything was smooth. Our room, though small, did not feel cramped. Everything was clean and tidy. Too bad stored blankets were unavailable for sleepers wanting more warmth than their traveling companions. We had to make a second request for one. May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits. read more

The location of this JW Marriott is stellar! We could walk to almost all the sites or pick up the Old Town Trolley that they provided credits to take and get a free shuttle to the monuments and Smithsonian Museums. Upon welcome we received free Trolley tickets for one day and some food credits, probably based on our Bonvoy Status (we travel all the time). The price for a room I guess because of the multiple conventions in the place was excessive. I think for a room, not a suite, it would have ben $750 per night during the week. I thought that was a lot so we used points, and the 1st night they had not held our King Room for us, and despite being our anniversary, we had to sleep in a double room and move the next day. Unfortunately, the double room was quiet, and the King Room had an adjoining door and we heard every little thing from the room next door. I would put this down one point, but the service, staffing and helpful Concierge made this place really nice for us. read more

I stayed at this hotel during the Washington Monument America 250 light show and fireworks. It is a decent hotel in a great location. I'm not sure it's worth the price without the location, the hotel staff weren't particularly friendly or accommodating, and although the rooms were nice, certainly not luxury or as well kept as other JW MARRIOTT locations I've been to. As an Ambassador with Marriott, I was pretty dismayed that I was misled about my room type and sort of dismissed when I could have been in a more front facing room. Not sure I would stay here again unless I wanted a specific view of the George Washington monument. read more

2025 was very busy for me but 2026 has been NON STOP too! Had the pleasure of being a plus one to a black tie event that was hosted at the JW Marriott. Since my friends know I love to dress up, I said yes to this opportunity, it's been a while since I had put on something super super fancy! I made this into a staycation because why not! JW Marriott is exquisite in every way possible. My date rented the presidential suite on the 12th floor and it had a terrace looking at our beautiful city! Views were stunning! Compared to my little king room this presidential suite took the cake! I literally could have saved $600 (last minute rate) on a room and stayed in the suite as it was literally like a mini apartment. This is the JW my friends but because it's so busy that "bougie" feel is missing at peak times. Banquet hall was beautifully decorated and food was great! Would come again! This JW Marriott is a beautiful and clean hotel, located near many D.C. sites, great restaurants and bars. Staff is wonderful and I was warmly greeted by bell staff, front desk and room attendants. As others have shared, it takes a bit to get used to how the elevators work, to get to the room floors. But once you get the hang of it, it is fast. The on-site 1331 Bar is nice for drinks, light bites and a meeting, but it gets pretty loud at night. The amenities in the room are nice, especially the aroma therapy soaps and lotions. Loved the makeup wipes! My only complaints were that my shower door didn't work right, unless I wedged a washcloth in between doors, and I could hear a lot of sirens and street noise from my first floor room. Also, the in room toilet paper seems pretty cheap for what you pay nightly here. However, the beds and pillows are quite nice and the desk is perfect for getting a little work in. I appreciated the variety of convenient electrical outlets and lighting in my room. Be sure to visit the gift shop in the lobby. They have a lot of toiletry needs, a wide variety of snacks, and Stabucks coffee. read more

Just because you leave your room and pass 3 housekeeping carts on the way down the hall does not mean your room will be cleaned. Our room was cleaned one of 3 days and I had to call for that to be done. Getting the attention of a server in the bar area to order was very challenging on two evenings, which weren't busy. I attended the Principles First Summit 2025 at this hotel, so my review will be for the JW Marriott as an event venue rather than the hotel portion. JW Marriott is a GREAT location for any conference hosted in DC. Parking is valet and pricey, but several parking garages are nearby and can save you money. Metro Center station is just two blocks away, and you can get to both Dulles and DCA airports from that station. Numerous lunch and dinner options are close by, including SPIN (ping pong themed bar), The Hamilton, and fast casual options like Potbellies and District Taco. Starbucks is inside, so if you are looking for coffee, no need to leave. This is also one of the closest hotels to the monuments and museums of DC, and the White House Visitor's Center is across the street. The staff were attentive and took great care of us for the conference, which was held on the floors below the ground level. We had a happy hour and the bar crew did a great job with both making drinks as well as setup and cleanup. Even a day or two into the conference, they were still on their A game. The facilities were clean and elevators worked well. The escalators are a bit narrow but otherwise accessible. While I didn't stay in the hotel, the rates for our conference's block of rooms were not bad for those who did choose to stay here, and they included a food and drink credit. I would return to the JW Marriott for future conferences or encourage event committees to consider this location. read more

I stayed at the JW for several weeks for work, during which I did not try many services or restaurants but had thorough experience with others. The good: A fantastic location right by the mall and practically on top of a metro stop. A striking lobby with lots of open space. Rooms with a view of the Washington Monument. Extra features like shoe shine and a shop. Comfortable beds. The bad: The rooms are relatively small and cramped. The outlet next to my bed (arguably the most important outlet) only worked after fiddling for ten minutes and catching just the right angle (and other guests I know said theirs didn't work at all). Inconsistent temperature controls. Dated clocks that only had charging ports for iPods and no USB ports. Unclear and expensive mail service. And this last one was the most annoying. Because I was there for so long, I sent an envelope and a package to hotel--something I have done many times before at many hotels. But it took them almost a week to locate my envelope, and my package ended up at some inconvenient FedEx center that was not open 24/7 and wanted to charge me $4 to get my package. Because I couldn't make it there during their operating hours and I did not want to pay $4 to get my $5 item, I just left it there. Good riddance. If you're going to charge for a standard service, that should be told to folks at check in. read more

We chose JW MARRIOTT WASHINGTON, DC, mainly due to its proximity to The White House and rate. We had passes to a self-guided tour on April 15, 2025, and wanted to be within a comfortable walking distance. It was only 5 minutes! We stayed for 4-nights at the tail end of Cherry blossom season. The front desk staff, concierge, housekeeping, and dining staff at Avenue Grill were outstanding! Everyone was kind and a pleasure talking to. Our room was on the 12th floor and linens and amenities were perfect. The air temperature controls were fixed, so it could not be adjusted any lower. I was warm most times! And due to the spring weather, my sinuses were bothersome. Everytime the A/C stopped, it was never ending sneezing. Hopefully, our neighbors weren't bothered. There's an all-in-one gift shop/convenient store/coffee shop next to the front desk. It carries a lot of great merchandise. They brew Starbucks, but the app is not eligible. The two dining options onsite that we frequented during our stay were 1331 Bar Avenue Grill for a late night drink and Avenue Grill for breakfast. I loved the breakfast buffet - the oatmeal and omelet stations were great! We needed a Uber a few times and found that the pick up area was a bit complicated for both drivers. The valet area is a tight squeeze and curb parking was always full. So there was always a delay either getting in or out. The Metro station is off of 12th & F St, about a 7-minute walk. We really enjoyed taking the metro and it was user-friendly. The city is very walkable and getting around was easy once you figure out the area! read more

Recently stayed at this hotel and it was absolutely amazing. From the warm greeting to the clean, cozy room to the fond farewell, everything was superior. Also, the location, can't get better than this. It's right at Pershing Square and the WWI memorial so it is just a few minute walk and you're at the national mall and all the museums or your right across the street from the Washington Monument and the World War II memorial. I booked two rooms at the JW Marriott due to its proximity to DC monuments as we had friends in town. They were very accommodating and allowed us to check in slightly earlier than the check-in time. The lobby is very nice and staff was friendly. There's a bar for drinks in the lower level and there's also a lounge for BonVoy Elite members, but it's (sadly) closed on weekends. Rooms were on the older side but freshened up. Our view was of the National Mall, with a good view of the Washington Monument. Unfortunately, the second room did not have a view and faced The Willard Hotel, which at the time was hosting an official state delegation from Japan, so streets were blocked off and there were sirens at all times of the night. Absent VIPs across the street, the room likely would've been quiet at night. This is a great place if you're just booking a room. The parking price is a bit outrageous, so I'd recommend finding a nearby garage instead. Lower valet (the only option available) and a lounge open on weekends would make this the perfect place to stay downtown. read more

Alway enjoy the stay here. We've been a couple times for conferences and the location is absolutely prime! Right down by all the stuff you want to see, and within walking distance of almost everything else. For the most recent conference, we ended up hanging here for about three days. The beds are always great, they've got a nice lounge on the 14th floor, they've got good workout facilities, and the conference facilities are also very nice. The staff are always friendly, and they were even able to accommodate our request for extra bedding as we have a little guy who likes to sleep on the floor. My family loves how close it was to the FBI museum, the national mall, the White House and was within a 20 minute walk of Chinatown as well as a number of good Ethiopian restaurants. I stayed at the JW Marriott in October 2025. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very warm and welcoming. The hotel has a nice bar that's great for hanging out at night, though the drinks were definitely on the pricey side. One thing to note: they charge for internet access, but this wasn't mentioned at check-in, which was a bit disappointing. Parking is also a separate fee since it's handled by a third-party vendor, they also charge a resort fee. Where is the sauna and pool? Extra expense for no reason. I wanted to love this place but no. You charge me a resort fee and you cant even give me a free bagel? Make it make sense! The gift shop is cute but quite overpriced. I was there for a two-day conference, and I really appreciated how conveniently located the hotel was -- close to everything I needed. Overall, a good stay with a drawbacks. For as expensive as a hotel as this is won't be coming back. 95% of the staff were rude. Only house keeping was nice. I had an issue where house keeping didn't come after a mixup on their part. I called twice to arrange several cleaning and they didn't come. Ended up finally getting someone to come around midnight after a long day. The sheets had stains, holes in curtains. Food was way overpriced and not very good and now I have been waiting on the checkout line for 30 minutes and they have workers just standing around. read more

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 9 days before inauguration. We had a nice time! I will say, the location is fantastic. Right where the national mall is and only a short walk from many of the free museums in the area and the metro station. It also had a view of Pennsylvania Avenue (we got the monument view room, though), so if you wanted to see the inauguration, you could. My sister and I had a particularly iffy experience with one of the cleaning staff, and the fact breakfast wasn't included, takes this down a star. Two stars for this JW Marriott. I'm basing this rating on a JW standard. This JW falls very short of expectations for this level of Marriott hotel. After my last two days in this hotel, I decided to read the reviews onYelp. I see many reviews with the same kind of issues that I have faced. Clearly there is a management leadership issue in this hotel. On my visit as a titanium member, no room upgrade was offered and when I asked, I was told nothing was available. The lounge or Marriott club was closed, thus they were offering a continental breakfast in the Avenue Grill restaurant. They did have a separate section in the restaurant for platinum and titanium members for a continental breakfast, but all they had available for this was bread, different types of bread. I asked the one lady working in this area where the rest of the food was, and she said if I wanted to pay, I could go have the regular breakfast which was just a few feet away. The Avenue Grill..... wow, the absolute worst JW breakfast of any JW. No way was i trying lunch there. A real rip off, $25 for for breakfast plus ta and tip. It was basically scrambled eggs, omelet, bacon and sausage. Similar to what Townplace Suites offers for free. Except no waffles. A real disappointment for a JW. No attempt to be exceptional at any level in this hotel. read more

Stayed here for a recent business trip. Positives: Super clean. My room had an updated bathroom. All staff that I encountered were friendly and helpful (at all hours of the day too! I checked out at 330 am!) Great views! Within walking distance of the national mall. Negatives: I feel like hotels in this area always run on the pricey side. You are charged a destination fee. They give you food credit, but the one restaurant wasn't open during my stay, and the other opens at 430. TV didn't have many channels. Also, I don't know what to say about their elevator system. Found it strange you enter your floor on the outside, and then it tells you the bay. The inside of the elevator had no buttons. read more

First time in DC and we enjoyed our stay at JW Marriott. We were there for just an overnight stay and there was a medical conference there but they kindly gave us an upgrade to a corner room with a slight view of the Washington monument. It's much better going to visit the monument. The room was quiet and clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom was a bit small, safe is in the last drawer in the dresser, robe and slippers, small fridge. I liked that both sides of the night stand had a charger. A lot of hotels, it's only on one side. The lounge was closed and they didn't offer complimentary breakfast for platinum+ but the destination fee, you get a daily $37 credit at 1331 bar & lounge or the breakfast place on the first floor, you just have to charge to the room. We stopped by 1331 bar to get a drink but it was super busy there so we ended up coming back after dinner and it was much better then. We didn't know they had turn down service and when we came back, it was a nice surprise. My husband got a nice note, chocolates, ear plugs and eye mask, extra water bottles, they pulled back curtains and had the room ready for bedtime. I would say the check-in person could have done a better job at telling us a little bit about the hotel and didn't tell us about the destination fee benefits. We ended up stopping by the front desk later to ask about breakfast options and were given the destination fee card details. The value I received for the 202,000 point spend for 3-night stay was wasted points! At best, the quality and tiny size of the room, minimal amenities, and poor service was equivalent to a Hampton Inn, at best 30K/night. I was charged a daily resort fee. I don't mind paying this if there are "resort-like" amenities, such as a large resort pool, tennis courts, sauna, use of paddle boards and/or kayak, use of bikes. This hotel offered no resort amenities, but still charges for it. Daily parking fee is outrageous so glad we didn't have a car. I was hoping for a top of the line experience, especially since it was a vacation with family, but overall, a total disappointment, expecting more from a JW property. Unfortunately my rarely requested use of upgrade awards was denied. Lifetime platinum member and room view was of algae filled fountain. On a lower floor and, very noisy hallway with kids running up and down playing ball each morning. The tiny room was tired and worn out, badly in need of an upgrade! I was given a card for In lieu of lounge for Sat breakfast which said continental breakfast available in Avenue Grill, served until 11am. My husband went down at 10:30 am and they said breakfast was moved upstairs, so they went to the new location. And at 10:35, the hostess told them it was now closed. At this point I joined my husband and we went back down to the Avenue Grill to tell them the new location was closed. She seated us and said she would get back to us. She came back. Now 10:50, and took us back upstairs only to meet the same hostess, now that we are with another employee escorting us, the new restaurant was open, and she made a mistake. I would expected she would be knowledgeable about hours of operation. Foodwise, some items depleted. Not a JW Marriot experience I would have expected. The hot water was turned off late morning on July 4th, multiple attempts to call to inquire on the issue went unanswered. So we went down to the reception desk and was told "the city has shut off water for a large city grid". We thought this was odd, as we had cold water running, so obviously the "water was not shut off" in hindsight, when I'm being lied to, I will most always bring that forward, challenge the answer that is illogical and unreasonable, but in this instance I did not as the hotel reception was busy. Upon return to the hotel, again checked in with reception desk and this time was told "an emergency shut off of the hot water was needed, but now it's back on". Neither instance did the hotel employees take accountability for the issue being hotel breakdown/maintenance related. The cleanliness of the room was ok and staff did a good job with daily service, however the shower tile grout had mold growing. Again, definitely not my expectation for a JW Marriot. read more

It pains me to write this because the hotel was decent and accommodating (hence the 2 stars) except when I mentioned having bites. Called and the lady was accusatory and took my name and room number then hung up saying someone would get back to me. It's been 10 days and still no call back to discuss after I came home and we confirmed bed bugs and had to pay a couple grand to exterminate our house. Otherwise the hotel was a fantastic location. It was helpful on a work trip that I also coupled with a family trip. Accommodating for those with disabilities. They allowed an early check in and a late check out which was helpful with an older guest and a child younger than her 5years old. Very close to the Museum of National History (and the Mall in general) and the National children's museum as well as the White House. The hotel breakfast buffet is reasonable and has many options and the kids menu is the best I've seen with healthy options not just pasta and nuggets. It is a massive hotel that is perfect for large functions and celebrations. Beautiful views from the windows. I've just never had a bug issue before and am disappointed in how they've handled addressing it. If it wasn't for the bugs I would've given them 4 stars. For a last minute choice, JW Marriott delivered on customer service! I paid for a 2-night stay that costed $519.46. Upon arrival, I got checked in and given the option to create a membership with their hotel to receive points every time I visit one of their establishments. Although I don't see myself making great use of this perk, it's nice that they offer this for those who are avid travelers. In addition, when you are checking into the hotel, you are given a paper that recommends you to events nearby the area, including the Spy Museum and the Monuments by Moonlight Tour. I ended up going to the latter, and it's a worthy trip if you want a brief excursion around D.C. Every employee was exceptionally gracious and patient whenever I needed further explanation on certain things. They're present 24/7 as well, so when I had to leave at 5 in the morning, there was a lady who was happy to check out my room. This also refers to the valet, who are also available day & night, and give you a card with their number that you must use in order to retrieve your vehicle again. When I left in the early morning, it only took about 10 minutes for my car to come out. If you choose this hotel, you'll be greeted by good hygiene. I can't recall anything that wasn't clean. Its location is fantastic, with it being walking distance from some of the most iconic locations in D.C, from the National African American Museum to the White House. It's suitable for anybody, solo travelers, couples, families, etc. They have amenities such as a breakfast/lunch restaurant on the bottom floor, a bar, gym, and conference rooms. Their hotel is the first one I've been to that has a unique way of using elevators. You'd have to choose the floor number you want to go to first, then an elevator will open that sends you to that exact floor. So, no other people should be crowding over an elevator and pressing multiple buttons, with you having to wait patiently till you get to your stop. Every time I used one at Marriott, I never had to be waiting on anybody else. The guest room I stayed in had a king-sized bed that was honestly a little rough to sleep on. I'm more used to my softer bed back home, and this one was just a tad too hard that I struggled to get quality sleep. Plus, none of the outlets on my side of the bed were working at all, and I switched between different plugs too. I had to resort to charging my things on my family member's side of the bed, which was inconvenient. I never saw a safe compartment either, which can make some visitors feel concerned about leaving their things unattended without one. Normally, that's where I'd keep my laptop, but without it, I left it underneath the extra pillows in the closet. Thankfully, it wasn't stolen. This is a nitpick, but I really didn't like the door to the bathroom because it made me feel like anyone could still hear my business from the outside. It was also difficult to close at times. While I did have some qualms, that doesn't take away from it being an excellent place to stay. Some of my concerns could be more personal, and the true problems can be fixed with some extra attention that I trust the employees will attend to. I was rushing to find the best hotel to stay at in D.C, and I found it. That's all I needed, a place to stay and rest my head- and JW Marriott delivered on that. read more

Do not stay at the JW it is not nice. It is old. The only good thing about it is the view and the location no great customer service small rooms lounges dated with cracked seats. I have never been so disappointed in a JW in my life. It's not a very high standard hotel. I would say it's more like a old Sheraton. Also, I saw people bringing families of five up to the lounge. There was no rest or control of who went in the lounge. The JW has an excellent location. One of the best. Here during the inauguration. Also a Marriott Gold Member. However some very odd things happened. I guess only 6% of DC voted for Trump and it appeared the staff assumed all were Trump supporters. Seemed as if all questions were answered with "I don't know" as though the effort to help a "Trumpie" was the last thing they'd do. And, because the Inauguration was going on at the time we were in town, the rates were exorbitant! Almost felt like gouging. The bar is a bit small, always crowded, although it is convenient that one can eat at the bar. That saved time. The rooms? For the price paid they seemed small. However the room was clean and the bathroom was stocked with plenty of soaps, towels, etc. Not sure this will be my choice on the next trip. read more

This is a very upscale and classy hotel to stay in. It is 7 minutes within walking distance to THE White House. The Nation's Capital is a very busy place and this staff knows everything about where to go for food, activities, sightseeing, and even pharmacies. Our room was on the 10th floor, Rm 1048. It is a doubles room (2 double beds). We checked in on a Thursday Night, and requested a high floor. As a Marriott Bonvoy Member I am bit frustrated because my account normally defaults to extra towels, high floor, and foam pillows, but for some reason the settings are not sticking. I am going to contact the customer service about that once we get home. We requested an extra luggage rack for our room on the first night, we called the front desk, but it never came at all throughout our stay. The housekeeping staff is great. The property is clean and very presentable for so many travelers. The Starbucks is not a Starbucks but a private coffee/cafe vendor who uses Starbucks grounds. The drinks are not tasty, nor are the food options. There is a Starbucks behind the hotel that is a 800 ft walk from the hotel's drive up lobby area, its a much better option than the one inside of the hotel. Our event/convention we attended was great. Overall, our stay was very high quality. No bed bugs, no filthy animal hair, no gross remnants of other previous guests, and good customer service at the front desk in-person. read more

Enjoyed my mid week stay here... spacious rooms with gorgeous views of the parks and buildings. The hotel is conveniently located close to parks, the white house, the National Mall, museums, a CVS, McDonalds, Starbucks, pubs and restaurants, Tj Maxx and a Corner Bakery. There is a gym, a few bars, and a market with Starbucks coffee. There is plenty of room to space out and work throughout several levels. The hotel is in a very good location to shop, catch the metro, go to the capitol or see the Smithsonian museums and more. It's a page hotel so will involve some walking to get around. There is a shop with takeout food including Starbucks or you can order and they bring it to your room. The room was very nice with a desk, TV, small (empty) refrigerator and nice bathroom with some amenities that include multi-use shampoo etc in the bathtub/shower, WiFi is free if you are a Marriott member but otherwise you pay. I would have liked more charging outlets when sharing a room and didn't see a safe which I also like. There is a bar that serves foot in the evenings. If you use a delivery from outside, it will be left on a counter by the entrance door so best to be there waiting. I thought the location was really great and would stay again read more

Excellent! I stayed on a Thursday and Friday night in November. It's about a $20 cab ride from DCA, and pretty close to the Metro if you prefer that. It's a block away from the White House and only two blocks away from the National Mall. You can't beat the location! Check-in was easy, and the staff was friendly. Great location to the White House and the staff was great especially the concierge very accommodating with local tour tickets.

We originally planned to stay at the Dupont Circle Courtyard but after finding they had not followed instructions from our Ambassador in our reservation, we decided to move last minute to the JW Marriott Washington, DC. This hotel was a breath of fresh air. Where the Courtyard was dingy and looked worn, this space was open, clean, and bright. We loved our room and got one very far from the elevator. After setting up the reservation less than 30 minutes before check in, this JW Marriott was definitely more pricy than my original month old reservation for the Courtyard, but normally it doesn't seem to more than $50/night difference over the Courtyard - which is insane. The overall quality and cleanliness at JW was so much higher and the single block of distance to the White House just can not be stated enough. I would encourage everyone who is on the fence between the two hotels to choose the JW - it definitely made a huge difference in our trip and we would absolutely stay there again! read more
