We came to have dinner one night and had such an amazing time. Very beautiful inside and great service. We had one employee who really stood out to us. His name is Sam and he was so patient with us and took so many photos for us. We really had the best conversation with him. He gave us the history of the hotel as well as recommendations for other places around the city Whenever we needed anything he was right there and beyond accommodating. We will definitely be back and will make a point to ask for him next time. It's pretty rare now to get a server who is hard at work but also will stop and take the time to answer your questions and make genuine conversation. read more

The room was very clean and the common areas of the hotel were very clean as well, especially since as busy as they were I found that to be nice. First: A $288 hold was annoying as I was not aware that there would be holding any money. Second: PARKING!! There's no on sight parking. Valet was $70 per day at the hotel! This review is for the Spa. I had an absolutely excellent experience. I wanted a last-minute massage but couldn't find an appointment that was after 5 o'clock. Luck would have it. I found the Spa at Hotel Washington and they had a 6 o'clock appointment. My masseuse was Tiaira. She was absolutely amazing. And I will be back to see her. My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Washington for a long weekend in mid-May 2026 to celebrate his GWU graduation. We really loved the unique decor of our room and the hotel overall, and the top-notch service. I must give special recognition to two exceptional staff members, Fish (bellman) and Brandon (front desk). They are my HEROES! I had left my cell phone in the taxi that dropped me off at the hotel from the airport. Fish and Brandon both went above and beyond to help me, and I eventually got my phone back. And they also ensured that in the middle of this crisis, I still got to my husband's graduation on time. I cannot thank Fish and Brandon enough for their caring and consideration. The roof top restaurant & bars have wonderful views of the Washington Monument and the White House. The lobby is spacious and has lots of charging stations. Booked over 6 months in advance and one week prior to arrival they cancelled our reservation. They offered to book us at another hotel that they chose which wouldn't work for us. They didn't care at all. There was no legitimate reason to cancel our booking other than to sell our room to someone else more important or for more money. The event I was attending was at that hotel. They gave no reason other than "internal reasons". Don't use this hotel. There's a reason it has low ratings. read more

** brunch review ** We attended a wedding brunch here in the top floor. It was a great, large space for people to mingle and for kids to run around. There are huge windows. I was impressed by the tastiness of the food and how the team kept replenishing the buffet. The team did a great job clearing tables, too. The OJ was fresh. The hotel was nice. When we checked in we had a couple mishaps but our concierge Fabio did a wonderful job fixing the mistakes. We did encounter another concierge who was very rude to us while we were trying to figure out our debacle. Our bags were sent to the wrong room and we were trying to figure out where they went. My friend was asking the other concierge if there was a way to radio the bell hop to let him know he is going to the wrong room and he yelled at my friend saying it wasn't his problem and then stormed off. It was pretty off putting by the way he acted. Being in hospitality myself I would have never treated a customer like that and would have probably been fired on the spot. This was our first encounter at this hotel that we had never stayed in so we were a little turned off but tried to push past and make the most of our stay for the first time here in DC. read more

Good location, not a great. hotel. I would not stay here again The hotel has a European / Boutique feel to it. The rooms are very small, with an unusual layout. The rooms don't have closets, only hooks on the wall to hang your clothes and two small drawers. No desk, only a mini table and a child size leather chair. The bathroom is a shower and toilet and has a transparent wall that you can see through into the shower from the room. The mini size sink is located outside the bathroom and it has a very small counter area to store your toiletries. The walls between the room s are also paper thin and you can hear everything from the rooms next door (the good, bad and the ugly)... The nespresso style coffee maker in my room only made expresso (despite pushing either button) so you are out of luck if you want a regular cup of coffee. The elevators are also really small and super crowded. Be prepared to wait 10 minutes or more for an elevator during busy times. The only highlight of the hotel is the rooftop bar and restaurant, although the view is cool the food & drinks are pricey and mediocre. Also I forgot the mention, don't bother trying to call the front desk or room service. The "at your service@ and / or front desk always has a busy signal (morning, noon or night.). read more

Pros- -renovated rooms, with the latest technology, including smart mirrors and smart TV, with access to Netflix log-in, etc. -located literally right next to the national mall, walkable distance to most landmarks (most appealing thing) such as the White House, national monument, etc. - check-in staff was nice. Shout out to Jamal. He was wonderful. - $15 voucher for the hotel restaurant Fireclay upon check-in. - they text you before your stay, and it's not an automated chat, a live person you can ask questions with. - valet staff out front 24/7, great for safety purposes as you step outside and gather your bearings, especially if solo. Con's: - no early check-in. - as discussed in other reviews, room walls are paper thin, you can hear a pin drop, even coughing or sneezing of your neighbor in the next room. -Vue rooftop bar, Fireclay, and the Patio- all of the bar and restaurants are pricey. read more

I've stayed at Hotel Washington twice; once a few years ago for a girls trip and more recently for a business trip. It's a clean hotel with a nice, posh lobby. Check in process was simple and quick. The rooms are definitely a little small, same with the bathrooms. However, both trips were short, so it didn't matter to me too much. You can't beat the location, it's minutes away from the White House. There's also a great rooftop restaurant with beautiful views of the city. read more

The hotel, service, location and roof top restaurant the "Vue" are good overall. However they failed at "hot water" for the shower twice. I inquired the first day and was advised it would be remedied. The second day same issue and upon check out they promised some form of adjustment. Never occurred. The hotel is very nice and clean. The location is great, close to the monuments and museums. Walking distance to every thing! Dinner at the rooftop restaurant and bar was very good with wonderful views! It is quite loud in there though from the music so if you want to have a conversation during dinner I would suggest going elsewhere. Breakfast at the Fireclay was average, lukewarm and overpriced for breakfast. I suggest going to the cafe a block over for cheaper better breakfast options. We stayed on the 10th floor in a monument view room. It was a very nice room, small but great for my husband and I. Updated and clean. The view of the Washington monument was amazing! However, I would not suggest paying the extra money ($1100 for 2 nights) for a room on the 10th floor. Unfortunately you will not be able to get to sleep until well after 1am due to the music and noise from the rooftop restaurant/bar. It was terrible both nights. read more

We were in town for a wedding and this was a recommendation from the bride. The hotel was very close to the wedding reception and other great restaurants as well. The star of the show is the staff. The valet was professional and patient. The front desk staff were personable and accommodating in every way. The rooms are modern and the layout is thoughtful for the size of the room. The rates were reasonable, however parking rates were expensive. Over all a great place to stay with practically a view of the White House lawn. read more

We stayed here way back in the 80s when my sister-in-law got married. It was a beautiful hotel back then and is still gorgeous today. We didn't stay at the hotel during this visit but visited the lobby and the lounge. Both were stunning. However, we were shocked at the price of a cocktail in the downstairs lounge. My husband ordered a black Russian, which is basically Kahlua and vodka, and it was $28 plus tax. read more

I admit that there was an *asterisk there about adding taxes, but it didn't mention destination fees other fees. It really is steps away from the White House and the Vue Rooftop restaurant and bar inside the hotel proves it. (There are few better views in the city.) First opened in 1917, Hotel Washington is a small luxury hotel in the heart of D.C. Walk inside the lobby and you'll see the luxury blended with quirky art and decorations proving D.C. isn't all stiff and professional. It has a fun side too! For one night, my wife, six-year-old daughter and I stayed in the seasonal Grinch-themed suite. It came with two adjourning rooms decked out with Grinch-themed pillows, blankets, robes, slippers, books, stuffies, toys, and more. They thought of every detail. After dinner, they rolled in a hot cocoa, egg nogg, and cookie bar. It went perfect while we watched the Grinch movie from bed. The hotel itself has a sizeable gym, spa, and lobby restaurant and bar. There's valet parking. Service is excellent. (Our visit was comped, but views are my own. They did not ask me to post.) read more

Ok, I had such a wonderful experience at this hotel. The bathroom layout is super small and horrible but everything else, Amazing! My friend and I ate at their roof top bar, the restaurant and the bar. We stayed 3 nights. The hotel is directly across the street from the White House. The view from the roof top is just breath taking. This hotel is clean and well run. The staff is so warm, welcoming and accommodating- ALL OF THE STAFF. The food, ALL OF THE FOOD- was not average but exceptionally delicious with gorgeous and thoughtful presentation. The food is a bit pricey but take into account location but most of all the excellent quality of the food. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner and fully enjoyed all of the meals and everyone who served us was attentive and friendly and knowledgeable. Customer service seems to be lacking in this country, but this hotel gives me hope. From the door men outside taking our luggage, to the check-in that didn't take forever but was also very pleasant, to the wait staff, to the spa check-in and the service, and the staff that kept our room clean and gave us what we needed when we didn't want our room cleaned. I just want this hotel to know that it is very difficult to find good people to walk out the vision these days, but you guys are doing an excellent job at servicing people and helping them feel safe, pampered and actually enjoy spending their money in these difficult times. Thank you for the respite that my friend and I desperately needed. We had a very smooth check-in experience. My wife and I were traveling with two teenagers, and although our originally requested room with two queen beds was unavailable, Mary at the front desk was incredibly helpful. She went above and beyond to accommodate us by providing a complimentary additional room, ensuring the kids had a comfortable place to sleep. She was also exceptionally kind and took the time to explain everything clearly. The rooms are on the smaller side but thoughtfully designed and well-appointed. One note for travelers: the showers feature frosted glass and offer limited privacy, which may be a consideration if you're sharing a room with someone you're not entirely comfortable with. We dined at Clay and Fire, where the coffee was outstanding and the breakfast delicious--though slightly on the pricey side. The service, however, was excellent. Overall, this is a great hotel in a fantastic location. We would definitely stay here again. read more

I have tried to contact Hotel Washington through its website contact form twice, plus I have called and left three messages for the sales office, and I have received zero response. We have opened an office nearby and want to discuss a group rate for corporate events, but I cannot get a response. Not a good way to run a hotel. read more

Please beware that there were bed bugs at this hotel, and the customer service is horrible. CHECK ALL BEDS for staining and bed bugs. I have photos of my experience (classic bites and clear BB stains), and I was constantly dismissed. They claimed the inspection found nothing, but unfortunately, in these situations, hotels are hesitant to admit liability. I also received several contradicting answers during my stay that nothing was found, when it became clear at that point that there had not even been a professional inspection. There were no offers to clean and/or treat my belongings, which I had to take upon myself. Only after persistent pushing did they refund for the night where I was bitten. I ended up bringing some home despite taking insane precautions, showing truly how advanced the infestation must have been. NOT once did a manager try to contact me. Every professional was shocked that I brought bugs home, after the precautions I had taken. For context, to "hitchhike" in a laptop, which is what I suspect happened, an infestation must be out of control; the sheets were horrendous with blood stains. Even without bedbugs, no hotel should have blood-stained sheets; it is unsanitary and unacceptable. The place should be checked by the department of Health. When I tried to ask the front desk to speak with the manager, they told me managers do not speak with guests. It was truly bizarre. I would have left immediately, but I was stuck here for a conference. After persistent pushing, I was told to file a claim through their security/insurance and assistant manager, and then security personnel contacted me. At this point, I was so distracted by the fact that I brought them home, I never had the time or effort to do so. More concerning was the second room I was moved to, which was also filthy; only the third room appeared clean, but at this point, the damage was done. I do not recall the exact room number, but it was on floor 4. I have lost hundreds to thousands of dollars in property, which has caused such a headache in not one, but two of my homes. This is no 5-star hotel, from the customer service to the quality and small rooms. AVOID, and if you must stay, please check everything and still take precautions like drying on high heat, so you do not go through what I have. Please note that I stayed in September of 2025, so I sincerely hope that whatever this is was possibly dealt with, but based on the way I was treated, I do have doubts. BTW-- After posting this on TripAdvisor they say they are so sorry, etc., still nobody has tried to reach out to me. This one night has truly ruined months of my life and has changed the way I will forever travel. Do not make the same mistake, avoid. read more

Stayed here so a couple of nights while in DC. Picked it for its centralized location and walking distance to restaurants, White House, monuments and memorial parks. Awesome location. You do have to bring your walking shoes but you will walk out to the WWI memorial next door, White House front across the street, 1/2 mile of National mall (Washington monument, WWII memorial, Lincoln memorial...). There were a couple of oops (see below) but the staff were nice and accommodating so no complaints. 1) when we initially checked in, room was clean but the toilet lid was down. When we opened it, there was a large poop (so we flushed it) but there was also small pieces of hair on the seat... we notified housekeeping and they cleaned it for us (we left to go for lunch and when we came back it was clean) however it was not a good first impression and make me question of the room was clean. read more

Came back for a weekend getaway. We got the room offer that included valet parking and 15% all spa services. I love how beautiful and modern this hotel is. The front desk is always so polite and makes you feel like a queen/king. Upon checking in they upgraded our room and since it was my husbands birthday they sent a free bottle of wine to our room before our spa appointment. The room, wow it was beautiful!! I loved the ambiance. The shower/bathroom is more private than you would expect. The beds are of course super comfy, I love the headboards in the room! There are different room lighting you can adjust to, which I liked. The room service was great. We got the complementary wine and then later ordered the cream brûlée with iced lattes. Delicious. Some of the items on the menu are a little pricey. The service was great and the way they make sure your all good before leaving the room is a good touch. The spa. Erica. That girl is the best. So sweet and did a phenomenal job on my massage. I felt so rested and rejuvenated. We finished with a glass of wine and sat in the steam room after. 10/10 definitely recommend Erica, she's wonderful. The night club seemed to be popping on Friday night. That's not our cup of tea, but I loved seeing the outfits and the energy. The hotel has a special line and elevator for the club. The location of this hotel is great. Close to a lot of museums, shopping, food and drinks. Love this hotel and I'll be back. read more

This review is for the spa only. Making the appointment was a breeze and the follow up and confirmation was great. Check in was also easy. I booked massages for both my daughter and myself. My daughter had an incredible experience with her technician. My massage was ok. But I would say that the "extras" are not worth the price you are paying for. In fact they should be embarrassed to charge for them. The lounge has furniture that is extremely uncomfortable and the locker room has one shower and is very small. I do massages all the time and for this price was expecting a little higher quality experience. read more
