We did a staycation at Riggs and it was fine, though I'd not return. Check-in staff were friendly. I immediately noticed how dirty the carpet was at the front desk. Elevators are slow and I think one wasn't working, which made for an unpleasant wait. The room, though pretty, was tiny. It had a shower/tub combination, which I didn't realize was still a thing these days. I normally do not stay in rooms with that combination. Function seemed not to be a concern during room design. The toilet paper holder was at an uncomfortable level. The glass shelf in the shower was at shoulder level, which was very concerning. The hand towel ring was stuffed next to the sink. These items all could have been placed in better areas. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The minibar was stocked with fun items, though we did not partake. The climate control does not go below 67. We called to the front desk to ask and they did not know that, so they sent an engineer to our room. The engineer told us. That means sleeping was miserable for me and I cannot imagine staying here in the summer. We had late checkout, but the keycards stopped working at noon and need to be re-keyed. I was floored. Riggs is in a great location and it is beautiful, but it's only masquerading as luxury. read more

My college bestie and I did a weekend staycation at the Riggs Hotel. Our alumni holiday party was being held at a National Portrait Gallery, which was just across the street. How convenient! We also got to explore the Holiday Market and other nearby spots, including Dirty Habit and Urban Roast. We were able to book the hotel online weeks prior. There was a Black Friday sale going on so the price was really good! Well worth it. Didn't do the valet parking which was $64 a night. Checking in was super easy and the rooms were actually pretty spacious for a boutique hotel. The room was clean. They greet you with a glass of bubbly upon arrival. Definitely a nice touch! We were planning to have drinks at the speakeasy downstairs, Silver Lyan but it closed early Friday night for a private event. Saturday it was booked up. It was awhile since I'd been and wanted to go back. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays! My only real "complaint" was that upon checking out, we discovered someone billed their dinner to our room. We never ordered anything. They might have been at the bar and just provided a random room number (mine). It was immediately removed but still. Yikes! Perhaps a name confirmation should be required. I would definitely stay here again if needed. The beds were comfortable and the staff was riendly and helpful. It was really easy to do rideshare from here. read more

I'm usually loyal to Marriott Bonvoy, but I took a chance on staying at the Riggs and I'm so glad I did! The hotel is beautiful and full of character, housed in the former Riggs National Bank building that handled the personal finances of 23 U.S presidents. I was able to check-in early and even got an upgrade, plus a few nice perks through my Chase Sapphire Reserve. The room had a great view, gorgeously decorated and perfect for a weekend stay. The location is fantastic and an easy walk to restaurants, shopping, and museums. The gym has great weight and cardio options. Café Riggs is conveniently located in the hotel and quite popular, so highly recommend reserving a table ahead of time. My only regret was not making it to cocktail bar Silver Lyan, which is located in the building's original vault space. read more

Stayed at the Riggs just for one night. It was a very cute hotel that used to be a bank. The area where you check in still has look of bank teller set up. The staff was friendly and provided welcome champagne for us. The bell hop and the valet drivers were nice as well. While the hotel itself is beautiful.. the rooms were a bit small. We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms which was larger than the standard but still small to me. The decor was beautiful and they had slippers and totes for us. There was a fridge in the shape of a safe. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was spacious. The hotel also had a "speakeasy " downstairs with some very unique drinks. The Riggs cafe brunch was also excellent. Overall it was a great stay at the Riggs. The hotel is in walking distance from restaurants and some museums. Definitely recommend the hotel despite the small room. read more

Booked this through Chase travel for Christmas week. Didn't know it was a Michelin hotel. We had 2 dogs and stayed two nights and only needed to pay a one time fee of $100 which is amazing! There was a thoughtful, personalized note waiting in our room, and the staff at Riggs Restaurant and Silver Lyan all took the time to acknowledge and celebrate what this trip meant to our family. Flawless and impeccable are words that come to mind. Professional, clean, hospitable, and nearly perfect. Can't think of any complaints. Security followed me around a it when I was lost which kind of annoyed me but they were doing their jobs. Besides that I have zero complaints. Great bar. Great restaurant. Great rooms. Great service. Tourist/government neighborhood near to to train stops. I would definitely stay here again. Edit: I forgot, after security followed me around and confronted me, "can we help you?" I was annoyed and was like "yes if you wanna unlock my door" haha as I had been up and down for a key and it wasn't working. Pleasantly surprised by this boutique hotel. The stars are the rooftop bar, the lobby bar (yes the lobby bar), and the speakeasy in the basement. The rooms are quite nice too with stylish decor. Note this place is pet friendly and they do not offer rooms that do not allow pets. I always call in advance to try to ensure my room is dander free. Allergies can kill a trip. They usually deep clean it. However upon inspecting my bed, it was ridden, I mean ridden, in animal hair on the mattress cover (zippered). So they definitely don't clean those unfortunately. There was no room for me to move to because they were sold out, so they lint rolled it with a commercial roller. They replaced the bedding afterwards. They seemed accommodating. The room had a mini bar, umbrella, and a tote that you can take home. Very nice touch. We were welcomed with a glass of champagne, but it wasn't consistent. I had to ask because I got the scoop that my colleague got a glass upon checkin. They also lost my food bag that I checked with the bell attendant. That was an ordeal, and I gave up. They recognized it and comped my dry cleaning. After all of that, I would still go back because the hotel itself is a hidden gem with the food and beverage options onsite. The valet even held my uber while the stuff was looking for my luggage/lost item. "He isn't going anywhere without you." (Because my luggage was already placed in the trunk. ;)) read more

My husband and I stayed at Riggs a few weekends ago and it's a nice hotel in a super convenient area of DC if you're spending time at the National Mall or Smithsonians. It's located in an old bank (built in 1891), so it has some really cool architecture and decor. The check in process was good (really nice staff). We didn't eat the cafe, but it looked great (and so does the menu). The room was nice (although my biggest complaint is how tiny the bathrooms are - it's hard to even close the door because you have to squeeze past the toilet and then close the door behind you! We usually stay closer to Dupont Circle but this location was great for us on this visit to DC since we were eating dinner at a restaurant that was walking distance from the hotel, but it's a really convenient location for a lot of DC attractions. read more

I throughly enjoyed my stay at the Riggs Hotel! It was swanky, perfectly located, and was just a really nice hotel. PROS: 1) The valet guys were amazing! Especially Coach! They were always kind, friendly, and overly accommodating. 2) Location was perfect. Steps away from the metro and I could walk most places I wanted to go in 15 mins or less! Not to mention so many great restaurants nearby. 3) SWANK. FEST. There was so much to take in, so much to look at, the whole place was just aesthetically pleasing. CONS: 1) The rooftop was closed the entire stay. 2) The elevators are sloooooow 3) The cold water didn't work in our room, which I wasn't necessarily a con, but was when I wanted to take a cold shower after the intense humidity. 4) The space is quaint. There wasn't a lot of storage space anywhere. The closet, no drawers, no counter space in the bathrooms. I lived out of my suitcase for 5 days. I would definitely stay at the Riggs again! We were here July 4th weekend . Had called them a week ahead and requested early check in . We did not get our room till 4:30 pm . It's a beautiful hotel very friendly staff . Unfortunately our room 825 AC was not working . We kept calling them from 9:30 pm They did not send any one till 11:25 pm. They send two fans around that time too. Nor did they change our room as we requested . It's the hottest day temperature over 90 degrees. We expected better service , I would never recommend this hotel . read more

The Riggs is a top-tier hotel in the center of Penn Quarter, the heart of DC! Highly recommend for a stay in DC. My wife and I recently stayed at the Riggs to celebrate our anniversary and it exceeded all our expectations. The staff were welcoming, the rooms were spacious, the bed was fantastic, and to top it off, the hotel was decorated for the holiday season. The Riggs does a great job of keeping the bank vibes alive with nice touches in their lobby, rooms, and especially the bar inside the vault downstairs. The Riggs lives up to its historic location. Giving this hotel 2 stars because it's beautiful, perfectly located in the city, and everyone working there was absolutely sweet. Why am I taking off 3 stars? We definitely ran into issues. I'd give it 2.5. I booked this hotel for a fun girls staycation - a lot of planning went into this. I booked the deluxe double room for 3 people. I called prior to showing up to ensure it would be enough room for 3, and they actually said it can fit 4. The suites were all booked, and the atelier suite only has a king bed. I get to the hotel first to kind of spice up the room for a girls night, and found the room to be very snug. It was the first thought that came to mind, and honestly didn't look as spacious as the deluxe photos on the website. I remember asking, where's the wood floors and extra room? I was so lost. The bathroom was EXTREMELY SMALL, so small to the point I couldn't close the door before walking behind the door. It was awful. Also, there's no where to put your clothes unless you hang them, no drawers, just a small closet. We literally had no where to put our clothes. Our suitcases stayed in the hallways, making the room even smaller. My friends visiting from out of state were so annoyed. We go to complain about the space and how it's so tight, the only option they had for us was to get connecting rooms, but we would have to pay an extra 200 a night. Like what? Also just defeats the purpose of a staycation with girlfriends. So then we decided, okay we'll stay one night, and book another hotel. We stay the first night, and our room is hot. We had to call to get fans placed in our room overnight, it was just so awful. You would think a hotel would reimburse you for everything... we got 20 dollar drink vouchers lol We left and had a wonderful stay at yours truly. Oh, and they accidentally canceled my brunch at cafe riggs the day after - we showed up, and the restaurant was like - you cancelled yesterday. It was a mess, but the restaurant worked it out for us. All in all - hotel is gorgeous. Space is limited. Go on a solo trip, or just a stay for two people. read more

The Riggs Hotel in Washington DC. is in what used to be an old bank, lending to some cool architecture. The bar downstairs is even in the former building's original bank vault. This venue boasts a fantastic location in the Penn Quarter, near historical monuments and the White House. The staff's friendliness added a welcoming touch to the experience. However, I found the room's layout to be somewhat odd and the lighting a bit dim, which detracted slightly from the overall comfort. Shouting Staycation, Staycation! I've been waiting for the @riggshotel to fully open. Brand new luxury addition to DC. It has been 2 years in the making. Right when the restaurant caferiggs and the lounge silverlyan open the C-word hit and everything was shutdown. The main hotel just open on August 11th including the Rooftop and caferiggs. Unfortunately, the Gorgeous silverlyan lounge remains closed. It was the first Spot on my list to visit. I love a fashionable decorated lounge over a rooftop any-day. To add the talented Jacu Strauss from Europe decorated the hotel. I truly enjoyed my stay here and especially the gym. The added bonus for me was the 2 Peloton Bikes, Boxing Bag and high seating water rowing machine. Which none are offered with my membership at Equinox. The staff was welcoming and provided excellent customer service. I cannot wait to return. If you are looking for a hotel to stay at in Washington, DC, I definitely recommend The Riggs. It's an upscale, modern hotel inside an 1891 former bank building, one of the last remaining Romanesque Revival buildings in the city. It was once the bank of presidents, a place where more than 20 US Presidents (including Abraham Lincoln and Richard Nixon) did their banking. It's also rumored to be built on the site where "Honest Abe's" assassination was planned. The Ford Theater is right around a corner. It's kind of daunting when you step into this massive building, knowing it's history. Straight ahead is a restored barrel-vaulted elevator bank. To the right is the reception area with a large L shaped desk, reminiscent of a teller counter. To the left is the lobby, which is also a full service restaurant and bar, Cafe Riggs. It's truly beautiful, with towering ceilings and original marble columns. I really adored all the different choices in seating, from tables to couches, and comfy arm chairs. A short elevator trip downstairs will transport you to the Silver Lyan Cocktail Bar which is located inside of where the bank's enormous vault once stood. The humongous vault door is still there just beckoning you to photograph it. The cocktail bar, was not only exquisite in appearance, but the food and drinks were delicious. The meticulous attention to detail was noticed and appreciated. Our room was adorable and immaculate, we had a hip suite that was spacious, it included a bedroom and sitting area, with two TVs. The couch pulled out to a full size bed and the king size bed had a swirled flowery fabric headboard that was just beautiful. The mini bar sat on top of a little fridge and safe that were disguised to look like a little vault. The complimentary slippers were also a nice touch. Of course a beautiful hotel is nothing without great customer service and this place was brimming with it. Everyone on the staff was warm and welcoming and so very friendly. Despite only being there for one night, the bellman that took our bags when we checked in, (Mr. DC as he called himself) knew our name each time we left or entered the hotel. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday and there was complimentary champagne served to us at the Café and the Cocktail Bar. The concierge, Tiffany got us a brunch reservation that we wanted but couldn't get. The only regret or disappointment that I had about The Riggs was that we weren't able to stay longer. I feel like there was so much more to explore and enjoy! read more

If you want to treat yourself to a staycation, then look no further! My friend was able to get us the pink room which was every little and big girl's dream I'm sure to stay in time. This hotel used to be a bank and I can definitely see the charm in the whole building. There's also a giant and I mean giant gumball machine on the first floor where you can ask for a token to try it out. I don't have photos of the machine so you'll just have to trust me it's there! Also through the gym, they planned to open if not already a hidden doorway to a speakeasy area so this hotel is worth the money for a great experience in DC. read more

Stayed here in June. Front desk personal could really use hospitality training. I personally felt uneasy towards the end of our stay because i left my sunglasses in the room, i remember exactly where I had left it. Called them back immediately after I left and let them know. They gave me the run around (this person will call you, etc) They called and said they didnt find anything. I called multiple times and gave them description, information on where it is but did not hear back after. Glasses were expensive & i loved them so much. Honesty will go a long way weather this was on the housekeeping part, or any other it just didnt sit well! read more

NOTE - this is a review for the hotel only, NOT Cafe Riggs (which is a 10/10). So, the issue with this hotel is that it comes off as a little snooty / too cool - primarily because of the service. The rooms are beautifully decorated, but the poor service actually started before we even arrived. We were trying to book adjoining rooms and were told inconsistent information via email and then on the phone. We got a pretty chaotic email about local attractions, and check-in was a little awkward (they had us pay again even though we prepaid and gave us incorrect info about a nearby event). A few elevators were out of service so it took a good 15 minutes to get upstairs, and when we tried to take the exit stairs back down we ended up in a kitchen? It was all very strange. On top of that, the room service we ordered never came, and when we called 2 hours after placing the order the reception was not apologetic at all. The rooms were beautiful and the beds were comfortable - views were amazing - but the room didn't come with a bathtub and the AC / heater was hit or miss. In short - I would stay here if I needed to be in the Penn Quarter area. The price was reasonable with the Black Friday discount they offered. That said, I would opt to stay somewhere else purely because of the poor service we experienced. TIP - if you are staying here, you can find much cheaper overnight parking through SpotHero. We parked at the E street theater for under $20 (and i think valet at the hotel is well over double - if not triple - that price). read more

The Riggs us located in the Penn Quartz of Washington DC. We stayed there because we watched a Warriors vs. Wizzards game at Capital One Area, and this hotel was a short 3-5 minute walk. The staff was amazing, they valet parked my car. I forgot my medicine in the car & they went out, grabbed it & delivered it to our room. I am forever grateful for that! The room was clean, beautiful & had such a unique vibe. The beds felt like heaven! I probably took 3 showers in one day just because the double shower heads were heaven! I went to Riggs on a Saturday night, my group spent A LOT of money in Silver Lyan and the service was sooooooo slow. For the amount of money we spent I did expect for things to be a little faster. My waiter was great! DJ, he deserves all the praise and I understand that he can't control the bar or the kitchen so no blame is placed on him. The place was not even full so I'm really not understanding why everything we ordered took so long. For instance, one person ordered donuts... only 3 donut holes come in the order and it took about 30 minutes. While everything took so long I'll admit that it was all delicious when we eventually got it. That may be the best lychee martini I've had, we also got the tater tots, fried chicken biscuits, and an ice cream sandwich, but due to the incredibly slow service I won't be returning. read more

This is luxury... Wow... former bank building turned hotel... fabulous. The service here is spectacular, friendly and efficient. We received a small welcome gift upon check in: a cute bag, small bottle of bubbly and a variety of hand sanitizers. The interior is stunning, all the old beauty preserved, yet with every modern day comfort you can imagine. In our room , the fridge was made to look like an old bank safe, nice touch. The only thing is, that in my humble opinion the bed headboards and the wall decor just don't fit together at all. The room also comes with complimentary slippers and another little canvas bag... yay. The slippers are just so comfortable, I took mine with me. You can also use and/or purchase robes and what nots. The bathroom is fully stocked with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer... and I'm not talking about these tiny little containers you generally get at hotels. And of course there are a lot of nice big fluffy clean towels. But the best part were the beds. Four big overstuffed pillows per bed. Not a bedspread, but a duvet with cover, which translated to clean since these duvets covers are washed between guests (or daily if you so choose). They are plush, yet very light. The mattress had a pillow top with firmness underneath. So comfortable. A wonderful experience. You are in for a good night's sleep. read more
