I stayed here three days for a conference and I was very impressed. The good vibes start the minute you come through the revolving doors, when you are greeted with the signature Westin scent, which I think is White Tea for everything. If you've been stressed from traveling, this makes you want to take a deep breath and let it all go. The front desk attendants were very helpful. Check-in was a breeze, they had me in a gorgeous king size room with a nice window view of the surrounding neighborhood, and prior to the conference they had accommodated a special request I had for my reservation. Everyone is very well-trained and customer focused. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed felt like a dream when I got into it every night and I slept well. There was a robe in the closet, a good 6 or 8 substantial hangers that I used to hang up my work clothes, several drawers including one that housed a personal safe, and a small refrigerator. I was a little baffled that in a room with a fridge there was not a small microwave to heat up any leftovers you might be refrigerating. I'm guessing it's possible to request one but I didn't ask. Nice little sitting areas throughout the room and a wonderful shower. Also nice little touches like a motion sensor soft light that comes on when you enter the bathroom, and a little aromatherapy roll-on on your bedside table. White Tea toiletries in the shower, so you can leave your own shampoo, conditioner and body wash at home. Those are on the wall and refillable, one of a number of sustainability features I noticed throughout the hotel. Another is a metal water bottle in your room that is yours to keep and refill throughout your stay at the hydration stations on every floor and throughout the hotel. We had a couple drinks at the beautiful lobby bar, and they were thoughtful enough to think of a couple mocktails that aren't just juice. We didn't eat there but everybody's food I saw looked very good. There is a Starbucks in the lobby that was seeing a lot of business. Tons of nice spaces to meet or relax or work throughout the lobby and the rest of the hotel. This space is very well-designed, especially for business. The conference rooms and all of the spaces on the conference floors were exactly what you needed them to be. Some really thoughtfully designed seating areas throughout if you need to take a call or get some work done. The primary thing that loses a star from me is that the sit-down meals at the conference were really not very good. They redeemed themselves with the more buffet-style meals including one especially good salad bar concept with minestrone soup. Don't let the neighborhood, zip code or brand fool you! The hotel is in a perfect location for shopping restaurants and the riverfront. Inside a beautiful hotel with a decent restaurant and bar. My room was nice aside from the cleaning staff leaving a bottle of cleaning solution and Each night I was there I was awaken about 2pm to a malfunctioning smoke detector. Beep beep I attempted to call downstairs, but using the phone I received the automated system. First attempt I was directed to security and received a busy signal.. I called back asked for housekeeping again busy signal third call front desk signal. Not knowing the circumstances of the sound if it was a malfunction or an emergency, I took to the stairwell because I was not receiving a response from any department. I attempted to contact the "800" number with my cell that was a loop. The short of it; Poor response, miscommunication and not being believed by the manager. The manager said he checked the phone system and it's functioning as normal. The manager stated he went to several rooms to check the theory. He insisted nothing was wrong. So in the end, I had him come to my room to "his" astonishment MY room phone didn't function as I said! He then became very apologetic. At that point, I was already offended so the apology was just a standard yeah yeah yeah. No sleep for 2 days!! Other things happened, but that would be too lengthy for this review. This is a Westin? You've got to be kidding. I've stayed at other DC Marriott properties and am shocked that this considers itself to be part of the brand. Upon checking in, as Platinum member I was told the concierge lounge was under renovation and was not available. The front desk offered free breakfast daily as a consolation, and I was told I was getting an upgraded room. The "upgraded" room on the 5th floor, had broken drawers that continue to slide open randomly and an air conditioning unit that sounds like an industrial furnace. Everything is very beige like an old Courtyard property. The view looks over the bar in the lobby with no natural light; but worse - it neighbors closely to other rooms on an angle, which means that if you open the curtain you will not feel you are experiencing any privacy. Other rooms can see directly in. The shower has new tile but is a traditional tub. It has a half glass partition that often leads to getting water everywhere. I looked at other Yelp photos and it appears there are plenty of updated rooms on other floors, and surely that provides a different experience - it's disappointing that the front desk lied about providing the upgrade. Just simply tell your guests an upgrade is not available! I would definitely not stay here again. read more

We really enjoyed our stay! He upgraded our room at check in with no problems. We were on the 2nd floor and had a view of the bar & dining area, typically I prefer natural light but it wasn't bad at all. Our room came with a lot of extra perks, food/drink vouchers, complimentary tickets to the Museum of Illusions and there is a Starbucks in the lobby. It was really close to a lot of shopping and dining spots as well. There was beautiful art on the side of the building. There was a random mini pop-up art show (on a Tuesday, that's unheard of lol) that we really enjoyed. The room was clean, bed was cozy, shower was great and robe was comfy. Beautiful room, gorgeous lobby, friendly service, lobby action for drinks and there is a freaking Starbucks in the hotel. Say less. Attentive housekeeping. I loved that the floors weren't carpeted. I always feel icky walking on hotel carpet. The room was minimalistic, contemporary and comfortable. The shower was AMAZING. A few dials to give you a handheld shower experience as well. I loved the motion light in the bathroom so if you have to go in the middle of the night you don't disturb your partner. If I had to pick a dislike, it would be no microwave, fruit flies in the lobby drove me nuts and there were loud kids on my floor. The gap at the bottom on the door makes it easier to hear everything in the hall. The floors make it easy to hear your upstairs neighbors walking all day also. But I still highly recommend this location. Close to shopping, food, museums, metro, Chinatown and even a grocery store is nearby. read more

I visited the Westin near the Convention center on 7th in DC, for a special dinner, and it was so magical and a wonderful experience. I was able to get my bag and coat checked which at the event. The food was so good! Mushroom toast: crunchy and so delicious Shrimp: was salty! Perhaps the greatest hotel rebrand is Westin. Transforming into a wellness hotel brand, their magic worked on me. Checking in for a two-night staycation, my family of three enjoyed our stay. Here's why. 1) Rooms: We stayed on the 14th floor with views of City Center. With adjoining rooms, we had a king-sized bed suite with a living and dining area and a connected single room with two queen-sized beds. The entire hotel is recently renovated, so the rooms are new looking and clean. It comes with all the usual suspects like a safe, iron, etc. What sticks out are the little things like a full tray of toiletries like tooth paste, deodorant, and mouth wash. They also leave you bathrobes that you can take home. The beds are very comfortable and the AC/heat work well. 2) Space: The renovation makes this hotel pop. With a modern yet simple design, the entire hotel reminds us of the nearby Conrad (a Hilton luxury hotel). The lobby is spacious with a full restaurant and bar. Being a wellness hotel brand, their third floor gym is massive! It comes with one huge room with Peloton bikes, treadmills, weights, etc. There's a separate yoga room and towels and water. 3) Amenities: Again, the gym is massive so pack your workout clothes. The hotel restaurant and bar (Root & Vine) serves quality food and includes better-for-you food and more healthy portion sizes. The lobby has three kinds of water for guests. Each floor has an ice and water room. There's a Starbucks and a little market with snacks, wine, and grab-n-go food in the lobby. There's valet parking and on-site parking garage for $36 a day. 4) Service: Everyone is kind, especially the restaurant staff. They are attentive and offer help if you need it. 5) Parking: There's valet parking and a parking garage that connects to the hotel. 6) Neighborhood: In a central location, there's plenty to do within walking distance from Luna Hall, an Asian food hall, to Planet Word, an interactive museum about language, to A Baked Joint, a popular restaurant with delicious breakfast biscuits. This hotel is beautiful and amazing! The fitness center is top notch - theres Peloton bikes and a massage gun machine. The staff is so kind and helpful - I have never stayed somewhere where the staff was so attentive! They answered any questions I had and even brought up toothpaste and toothbrushes to my room when I asked if toothpaste was for purchase in their shop in the lobby. While staff were kind and welcoming, the room clean, and the breakfast good, we were very disappointed in the "nickle and diming" -- the extra fee of $40 per night tacked on to the base cost. I recently had a bit of a staycation when my friends came to town for a visit and decided to book us a room at the Westin Downtown DC. The Westin is a gorgeous hotel with a beautiful lobby (on-site Starbucks and car rental!), top-tier gym (I would "join" today if that was an option), and comfortable/modern rooms. It's very clear that all the details in the hotel were carefully considered to make for a great guest experience. I was informed the hotel has been recently renovated and if that is the case I must say Marriott did a great job! The only "negative" was when we first booked I wasn't a huge fan of the destination fee, but was pleased we could use a $30 daily credit to enjoy the on-site restaurants, which provided great service and tasty food options. Parking is also VERY expensive but that is expected at any downtown hotel I suppose. I would've rather my destination fee went towards that but for the full weekend we landed just shy of $80 by self-parking in the garage. The hotel itself is centrally located with lots of options in walking distance for food, drinks, and exploration. There was also easy access to the metro stations to get around the city. The last minute decision to grab a room at the Westin was a great one and I'm planning on "hosting" more friends and family there in the future. read more

The location was perfect--close to key attractions and great dining options. The only downside is if your on the lower floors you will hear everything from the street. The room is simply beautiful. I had the king looking out towards the library. Baby I slept real good. Spacious with a place to sit and my other favorite part was the bathroom. Specifically the shower. Visiting with big group and so check in took some time but not more than 15 mins. Since our events were predominantly at the hotel, we had to engage a lot with staff; from car services to food servers. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. I even enjoyed the staff at the Starbucks. I would recommend for a short stay. Lots of restaurants near and other attractions. However, if you are in the mood for things like the national mall it's a good hike. 44 mins on public trans. I stayed at this property for 5 nights on business travel. The property's common areas are clean and bright, the front desk staff were very helpful and the location is great! I was in a king guest room on an upper floor, facing K Street and the Apple Carnegie Library. The room wasn't huge but it had a very efficient layout that made it seem larger. The chaise in front of the window was actually comfortable--most hotel furniture just is not--and the bed was heavenly. Perhaps my favorite part is the water fillers (in the lobby and by the ice machines) that allowed you to fill your travel cup instead of buying expensive, single use water, one of my pet peeves of travel. And if you didn't bring your own, two (admittedly pricey) bottles were available in-room for purchase, or from the lobby Starbucks. Starbucks staff was friendly and fast, as was the lobby bar/restaurant. Close to metro and all sorts of shopping and food, I will stay at this property again! read more

Overall we have had a good stay at this hotel. I am Titanium Elite with Marriott and was paying for this stay (not using redemption nights or points). I had done my research and knew it was a recently renovated rebranded Westin. The gym in this hotel is definitely second to none. It's huge, with a wide variety of quality equipment options. The lobby is beautifully renovated and is a huge open space. And this is one of the few hotels I found that had self parking, which I prefer. As for the rooms, we were initially in a 2 Queen room with a city view; the room was not large but was big enough. Beautifully renovated, with comfortable beds and bedding. My biggest pet peeve with it was the bath/shower combination (with a shower curtain). I was hoping for a decent upgrade at check-in but even with my status only received higher floor/better view room. I did end up going back down to the front desk and was able to pay a reduced rate to be upgraded to a King 1-bedroom suite, which was well worth it and a huge improvement (and had a stand up shower with a glass shower door). One of my favorite things about Westin's is their continental buffet breakfast, and I am not sure if this was recently discontinued as a brand, but this hotel did not offer them. As a Titanium elite you get a $17 credit per day for your breakfast, which at this hotel does not cover a breakfast and coffee. Not the end of the world, but something I was looking forward to. I do want to mention both George and Bridgette at the front desk who assisted me. They were both helpful and friendly. I did need to have extra bedding brought to my room and did not have to wait long for it. Overall I found the service to be amazing throughout the hotel. read more

One of the worst hotel experiences ever. Did online check-in, which said I just needed to stop and get keys at the front desk, but the incompetent person on the front desk wasn't able to handle the task, had to show multiple proofs and credit cards, ended up taking almost 30 minutes read more

If you happen to book this through Marriott Bonvoy be ready for a $30 + tax "destination" fee. It's not listed under additional charges on the app, and when I inquired about it was told they wouldn't credit it. Why this hotel has that fee and not so many of the others we have stayed at, I really can't answer. Nothing special here. We were told the fee can be applied as a credit in their restaurant. We weren't able to go due to other plans and were gone by 6am the next day, so getting stuck paying this fee isn't sitting well with me. I emailed back and forth with one of the managers about it, and asked him why it wasn't mentioned in the welcome email they sent me, and I was told it's because it's NOT charged to all customers, just those who book through Marriott.com. I realize it's not a huge amount but it's the principle here. Be aware Marriott Bonvoy app users. Bye Westin! I won't be back. Ever. read more

The location of the Westin Downtown is unmatched. We stayed here for the location to the Capital Center to view a Celtics game. The lobby is gorgeous & the staff in the lobby is excellent as well. Unfortunately the bar was woefully unstaffed for a busy Friday night. The bartender was doing the best she could, but we waited a very long time to order drinks and snacks. Our room was definitely on the smaller side (2 queens), however updated and nicely decorated. The letdown was the bed linens, the comforter was burst at the seams in a couple of places and the top blanket was more of a worn throw. I just expected better. read more

Once I found it, the hotel changed names and not all apps have been updated, I had a great stay. The room was clean and updated. My room was on the 7th floor, but I never had a long wait for an elevator. The food served was great. It is rare that I can travel and stick to a low sugar, vegetable, and whole grain diet AND enjoy the food. The only issue is check in. It takes a long time. That is the bad news. The good news is that the staff focus on you and what you need. They work hard to resolve any issues or simply delight. Asked what room I wanted, I said I had no preference, but I was given a room with a great view of the former Carnegie library. This turned out to be a great landmark for navigating the area. The location of the hotel is great. It is walking distance to shops, Chinatown, museums, and healthy restaurants as well as the bus stops to everywhere I needed to go. I may go back and edit at the end of my stay. But arrived 2 hours ago. Checkin took 20 minutes, and the queue was backing up. I am here for a convention where this is the HQ hotel, and one would think they would have been prepared for a rush. Second - on a Sunday afternoon, the only "food" available was Starbucks. Restaurants closed down and the so-called market was closed - they were tallying up receipts. No food service at the bar. Lovely - needed to walk 3 blocks to get a p*** p*** Potbelly sandwich. Third - well there is a small table and chair to do work on, but need to crawl down to get electric outlets for my devices. Room quality and cleanliness looks fine at this point. Bottom line - If Marriott wants to label this as a Westin, they need to upgrade their game, or else this is a Courtyard. read more

I would have left a 4 1/2 star review as the restaurant was not up to my expectations, however the beyond amazing service from Shariff at the front desk more than made up for it. He not only welcomed me and my nephew with the biggest smile and most positive attitude, he clearly communicated what our stay entailed and all the benefits we were able to receive as elite members. His energy and good vibes were very infectious and we were lucky enough to have him check us out at the end of our stay. He remembered us and what our purpose for our stay (educational vacation for my young nephew on his spring break) and he had the same infectious positive and genuine energy that I so appreciated which really made a huge impact on our weekend. Our room was very nice, clean, and had a great view; the restaurant staff was a dependent on the lead so it was a hit or miss on customer service (one of the bartenders made the best mocktail for my nephew and the best adult beverage for myself and the cashier in the to go restaurant was amazing); the food was "meh" especially for the high price and room service ordering wasn't working on the app; and the rest of the hotel staff were very courteous and helpful. Room 826 had a serious odor issue that was never fixed during our stay but other than that everything else went well. The rooms were still very clean and the shower is as well. The location was great and in a central location which makes getting to places simple. Valet Parking team was phenomenal! Business manager responds quick if you have issues. read more
