This is a mom-and-pop Asian eatery in the North PB neighborhood that has been around for several years. The nearby curbside parking situation was quite easy this time probably because the rain had kept people inside. I remembered that the seating capacity used to be larger than what it is now which was only sufficient for about 10 diners. It could be a reflection that the vast majority of their business was from takeout orders. There was a laminated two-page menu sheet at the service counter. Appetizers, soups, and salads were listed on one side. The other side displayed the chef specialties, curries, entrees, fried rice, noodles, sides, drinks, and desserts. At least half a dozen dishes had an X mark next to them which meant they were unavailable. From the four Fried Rice choices, I picked the Crabby version ($22). Jasmine rice, egg, spring onions, garlic, and real crab meat were the ingredients along with Thai seasoning. When the item was rung up on the register, it was priced at $24. I don't know why there was a discrepancy, but I didn't want to initiate a dispute so I kept quiet. I took a seat at a table and soon afterward, a bowl containing the contents was brought out. The rice was steaming hot. I asked for mild spiciness at level three, however it had more kick than I expected and left a buzz on my palate. The portion size was good, but not for $24 which was the most expensive I have seen for a crab variety. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dinner at Hot or Not Thai. read more

This is a textbook hole-in-the-wall gem. It's not much to look at but the food is great and so is the value for your money. I went with a group and everyone liked their food, whether it was an appetizer, noodle dish, rice dish, or curry (which was the staff's recommendation). Most of us took home leftovers, too. Their selection is pretty classic, and they offer a nice range of spicy-ness. Some of us went hot, some of us went mild, and all of us left happy. My family and I stopped by here again on Sunday (1/19/25). I was really hungry and craving Thai food. This place does NOT disappoint! They didn't have the crispy pork that I really liked but the kra prao was just as amazing! I got it with beef. My son ate the Thai fried rice and my husband got that pad Thai with beef. This place used to be reliable five years ago, it was never the absolute best but it was usually pretty good and decent. I got the spicy basil noodles, which is a standard classic dish. Not only did it not have any spice at all but it didn't have any flavor whatsoever. It tasted like plastic, there was no flavor at all. The huge pieces of onion were barely cooked, which why are there onions in this dish anyway but ok, and there was no garlic or egg in it at all let alone any seasoning. I ended up not eating it that night and going to the store the next day to buy my own seasoning to add to it, and it was a little bit better when I added flavor but why should I have to do that?? I was disappointed it had been flavorless the night I ordered it. The cream cheese wontons were good, not enough sauce provided though so once again I used my own sauce that I have at home. They need to do better. I am however grateful that delivery is available like it was in the old days i.e. without having to go through pricey apps. read more

Lovely Thai food restaurant with unique dishes. We love both their Tom Yum and Tom Ka soup as well as other menu items. I picked up a large Tom Yum for lunch today . it has plenty of lovely enoki mushrooms and tender chicken . My husband will be happy that he has have to soup as a leftover. read more

I thought this was a ghost kitchen when it first popped up on the delivery apps, because of the name. Thankfully years of Yelp photos showed me this spot is legit. We loved our order! Starting with the Tom kha- loaded with mushrooms and chicken! Often restaurants will be skimpy with chicken, but not this spot! We shared the pineapple fried rice and pad see ew. Both were excellent as well. Much better than some of the other local options, although not as incredible as some of the top Thai I've had in SD. For a neighborhood option when we just want to feast in our pajamas- it's top tier. We ordered our dishes either mild spice or medium spice. Medium was perfect to get our noses running a little without overpowering the dish. We were glad to have something mild to sooth our palate every few bites. Beware this place can get really busy really fast! But, it's worth the wait. I got their Chicken with Cashews and I think a spice level of 5 and it was delicious! I ate the entire thing no problem. The chicken wasn't chewy at all and I loved the flavor the cashews added to each bite! After searching for a Thai place to eat. I came accross this hidden Gem in San Diego. I browsed the menu and it sounded appetizing. So, I called made a Reservation, which is not needed but went ahead and reserve anyways. You never know if its busy around dinner time. Got to the restaurant an hour before my reservation. However, it was empty when i areived. Since most people were doing take out. I ringed the bell and a person came and attend us. I told him I had a reservation but was there way too early and he said, "not a problem. Just sit anywhere in the patio area and ill take you the menu." Picked out where I wanted to seat and he came shortly and handed the menus. After browsing the menu we all order Thai Tea with boba. Unfortunately they didnt have boba. But, the Thai tea was good. So i was happy with my choice of drink. As for dinner we decided to get pad thai with beef. Level of spice very spicy. We also got pineapple fried rice. The pad thai was very spicy but really delicious. The feied rice had lots of ginger flavor but really good. The waiter was awesome! Overall, this place rocks! The interior isn't that large and it isn't the cutest, though the service is very kind and quick. The portion sizes are above average for the price (though the protein portions are small compared to the mountains of noodles). We came here for the Khao Soi and it was okay. I had to ask and add lots of lime and chili to get the flavor right (it was too salty and not sweet enough at first - strange combo). As someone who spent time in northern Thailand i was looking the traditional version of this dish. I WISH they used pickled mustard greens in their version of this dish! To me skipping out one the pickles is a huge mistake, but for $13 is not a bad deal. Worst Khao soi I've had - so @veganicthaicafe still reigns supreme. The other menu items had good portion size, so I'll be back to sample some other items like the Rib Eye Panang or BBQ ribs Glad it is close to home as these cold nights demand hot noodles! read more

Food 3/5 - Crisp Garlic Crab ($12)-- crispy but had no flavor. - Chicken Pad Kee Mao ($13)-- not what I had expected. The noodles had no flavor and glistened with oil. Chicken meat was on the dry side. Portion size was generous though. - Kao Soi Ramen ($12)-- salty (to the point not edible) and overly sweet at the same time. Service 5/5 JJ, our waiter, who also multitasking did a great job of trying to make sure we had a good experience dining here. He brought out our dishes as soon as the cook was done preparing them. The food was piping hot. JJ noticed my husband barely ate the Kao Soi Ramen. After JJ realized what the problem was, he offered to redo the dish. My husband turned down JJ's offer. Before we had our left over packed to go, again, JJ made the offer to make KSR less salty. This time my husband agreed. JJ took KSR back to the kitchen and have it fixed. After it was done, he packed the ramen and Kao Soi soup separately. That was good service! Because of JJ's effort to fix our Kao Soi, we will give this place another chance.
