    Spring Rolls (4 Pieces)
    Srihan B.

TLDR: casual spot with great combo sets as well as yummy sushi for a great price The place is right on the corner in PB, very casual sushi spot that has a ton of booths and bar seats as well as 4 tables for two. The miso soup was good, it had a good tanginess and normally I'm not the biggest fan but I enjoyed this. May b I hungry The entree came with so much and it looked beautiful The salad was very fresh, the dressing was flavorful but not heavy The California roll was standard, tasted good The spring rolls were spectacular, I always order spring rolls everywhere- standard crunchy and soft inside with more of a garlic hint which I like, and it comes with the sauce! The PB chicken was big and crunchy, it was pretty good just tasted like Panda Express I do not like how the rice is not enough for the chicken. It seemed even less than a scoop too The lemon salmon was quite good, the lemon is the main note and the rest was mainly crunchy. The imitation crab inside pairs really well with the salmon. Service was amazing!

My boyfriend and I stopped into PB sushi after a beach day and we were impressed! We ordered two rolls- the big shot and veggie tempura rolls, as well as garlic edamame and cucumber salad. Additionally, we ordered a draft Sapporo and a bottle of unfiltered strawberry sake. The big shot roll was a huge hit with my boyfriend, he said he would absolutely get it again! I enjoyed my veggie tempura roll, but did not find it to have a ton of flavor. However, you can only get so picky with vegetarian sushi so I don't fault them for it. The cucumber salad and garlic edamame were both fantastic! We especially liked the raw garlic flavor on the edamame and thought it was some of the better garlic edamame we have had in San Diego. Finally, we loved the strawberry sake and would recommend anyone going to share a bottle of it! It tasted like a dessert and just blew us away. The ambiance was to be expected of a mid range sushi restaurant in PB (clean, well maintained, but nothing to write home about). However, the service was absolutely phenomenal! We did not catch the man who was helping us out's name, but he was so nice and helpful and far exceeded service we have received from much nicer restaurants. PB sushi is a great place to stop into for some reasonably priced sushi after the beach! While there is better sushi in San Diego, for the price, service and location you can't beat PB sushi!

I order delivery and oh boy what a disappointment. The agedashi arrived with no sauce. Yes. No sauce. The hand roll as you can see in the pictures very poorly rolled and there was almost nothing inside. Other places add strips of cucumber and carrots. Look at the pictures. The Alaska roll was really a California roll with tiny pieces of salmon on the top. No chopsticks, no soy sauce. I spent $56. As much as I want to be kind this was really bad. I'm really bummed out.

Miso was cold, sashimi was good aside from the tuna, cucumber salad and edamame was fine, California roll was not how we like it as it was mixed with a lot of mayo. Service was great. They had the game on tv. They had Diet Coke & grenadine so they get a point for that.

This spot holds a special place in our hearts as it was our first date night!! During college we went here often and always had the best time. This was the first place I ever had sushi - the OB roll so good!! We've visited twice with our kids and I was surprised to find that it's a very family friendly location, the server was great with our kids. There was something for everyone and the sushi seemed very fresh. Everything came out quickly and the veggie sushi rolls were phenomenal. My husband had one of the chicken dinner entrees and loved it. It came with so many sides - miso soup, California roll etc. We all shared the sumi salad and Edemame which were both great. We'll be back for sure!

    Salmon Roll

Found sea shells? Or glass in my salmon avocado roll. Cut the roof of my mouth and now I am bleeding. Front desk lady was so nice and accommodating but other than that the fish was very fishy and not good at all.

Amazing service, even better sake bombs. The ambience is knarly I would recommend...Shturnem

This place was a present supprise. The vegiterian sushi felt fresh and crisp with good flavor combos and the staff was super friendly and quick. A long time ago I had a Mexican sushi fusion place that left a bad taste in my mouth so I was hesitant to get something similar at this place but on recomendation I did and it was great. The Pico de gio, crisp veggies worked well without feeling out of place. It was a big roll so it was pretty much impossible to do it in one bite but that is not that big an issue. The parking was surprisingly not too bad and free juat a block away. Overall a good spot to grab a bite. There weren't a tone of veggie options but the ones we got were good.

Decided to check this sushi spot based on the reviews and it was a good experience! Definitely AYCE menu and at a great price! Close to the pier and other establishments. Easy parking and friendly staff!

Chose DoorDash for this specific order but honestly, I was surprised how much we liked it here. I was a bit skeptical from other reviews, but for the price it was great. I'll be back to try in person.

Good spot for quick sushi and good dinner. It's pretty decent too! Staff was very helpful and sat us quickly. The food also comes out fast so we were able to eat at a good pace. I love the varied of sushi you can pick from. Decently priced too.

After driving by this spot for years, I finally gave it a go after a night out and was not disappointed! The veggie tempura (especially the asparagus) was sooooo good. We loved all of our rolls especially the toro. I would probably pass on the miso soup next time as it wasn't as flavorful as I'd expect and it got cold quick. Would definitely recommend this spot especially for the late nighters.

Everything was great - the service, decor and most importantly, the sushi. I ordered the protein roll, a Philadelphia roll and a beer. Everything tasted fresh and given that we're a beach city, I liked how the protein roll came on a dish in the shape of a shell (see photo). I was happy that they had my Ichiban beer, as not all places serve it, but they only have it the large size and normally I order the regular size. They had comfy booths to sit in and a beautiful mural on the wall, which added to the ambiance. I felt like the restaurant was clean - a very important factor when eating raw fish! I don't get to downtown La Jolla very often, but I will definitely go back here again when in the area. Parking can be a little bit tricky, but we came in the early evening to avoid the later dinner weekend crowd. So we drove around for a bit and finally found a spot. The restaurant is definitely worth the effort!

We asked if we could sit on the patio since there was another couple already dining outside, but we were told no because the only available outdoor table was reserved. We ended up sitting at the bar instead. The food was excellent. We especially loved the Rockfish Tempura and the Akami Sushi Roll--both were fresh, flavorful, and easily the highlights of our meal. The cocktails, however, tasted different from what we expected. After asking the bartender, we learned they were sake-based cocktails rather than liquor-based, which would have been helpful to know upfront. What stood out, though, was that the "reserved" outdoor table remained empty for about 45 minutes after we arrived. By the time we left roughly 90 minutes later, it had only just been seated. We asked how we could reserve one of the two patio tables in the future and were told to make a reservation in advance and specifically request outdoor seating. So that's exactly what I did. After a few weeks, I made an OpenTable reservation for six about a week and a half in advance, specifically requesting outdoor seating, and even called to confirm. When we arrived, we were seated inside, where happy hour isn't offered. After nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth, the host and Stephan insisted I had no reservation and suggested I booked the wrong date. I showed my OpenTable confirmation with the correct date, time, party size, and outdoor seating request, but they still denied it. The host acknowledged the mistake and offered to honor happy hour, but Stephan refused any accommodation, was dismissive, and even told me I was "lucky" they had a table for us because they were booked tonight. When I asked for a manager, he said he was the bar manager and there was no one else to speak to. We stayed because our friends had already arrived, but the issue wasn't missing out on patio seating--it was how the situation was handled. We were told to reserve outdoor seating in advance, which we did, yet even with proof of our reservation and confirmation call, the staff refused to acknowledge their mistake and instead made it seem like it was ours. Cherryfish has good food, but they need to improve both their reservation system and customer service. It took a long time to order the last time we came with family as well. Mistakes happen, but accountability and professionalism matter.

This is one of the OG sushi spots in San Diego, and I've been coming here on and off for decades…read more It had been quite a few years since my last visit, though. With so many new sushi restaurants opening around town, it's a little out of the way for us, and honestly, I had almost forgotten about it. I'm so glad we decided to come back because it's every bit as good as I remembered. I made a reservation for the sushi bar, which is always my favorite place to sit at a traditional sushi restaurant. Instead of ordering my usual rolls, I decided to splurge on the Chef's Choice nigiri. I also asked the chef to serve each piece one at a time rather than bringing everything out at once. I love taking my time, enjoying each bite, and watching the chefs work, which is another reason I prefer sitting at the counter. The Chef's Choice was absolutely worth it. Every piece was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. My favorite was the aged toro, which had been aged for three months. It had such a rich, buttery flavor and completely melted in my mouth. My husband ordered a few specialty rolls, and he was very happy with both the quality and the generous portions. I also upgraded my regular miso soup to the clam miso soup, and I'm so glad I did. The broth was delicate and flavorful without being overly salty, and the clams added a wonderful sweetness. Even though I was already pretty full, I couldn't resist ordering three pieces of tempura after seeing them come out for another customer. I rarely order tempura in the U.S. because it's often heavily battered, when authentic Japanese tempura should be light, crisp, and delicate. If you've ever been to a dedicated tempura restaurant in Japan, you know exactly what I mean. This tempura was surprisingly close to what you'd find in Japan--light, airy, and perfectly crispy without feeling greasy. For dessert, we shared the green tea Basque cheesecake. It leaned a little on the dry side, but I still really enjoyed it because the matcha flavor was rich, bold, and not overly sweet. We also had a chance to chat with Akira-san behind the sushi bar, which made the evening even more enjoyable. The hospitality and attention to detail really reminded me why I've always loved this place. With so many trendy and expensive sushi restaurants in San Diego these days, this restaurant continues to stand the test of time. The quality of the fish is outstanding, the atmosphere is authentic, and I honestly think the prices are very reasonable for what you get. It's a classic for a reason, and I'll definitely be making the drive back more often.

Definitely a restaurant I would return for some good Japanese food. O Toro and Yellowtail Belly sushi were simply mouth watering. The way both fish just melts in your mouth and the proportion of rice to fish being just right makes a difference so that it gives you the perfect sushi experience. Shrimp Tempura was tasty. Not overly oily and a nice layer of tempura that wasn't thick. But the best is the shrimp! Definitely didn't taste like those frozen ones and the quality of the shrimp (size, texture, and tasty) was delicious. My son ate 2 out of 3 on his own - and he's very picky with shrimp tempura. Ota B was yummy! It was such a balanced meal of flavor, texture and variety. Even the rice itself was good, I kid you not! Definitely a good value to have if you're there. Our kids didn't want anything else but ended up eating two bowls of just udon. All because it was good udon. What can improve (hence the -1 star) is the service. The server wasn't friendly to begin with, probably because we have two young kids in a nice Japanese restaurant, and perhaps because we didn't order too much since we had a delayed lunch but had this place reserved for dinner already.

Some highlights: * The A5 Wagyu Tataki was delicious and one of my favorite dishes of the night. * The Uni Pasta was good, honestly some of the best uni pasta I've ever had. Rich and flavorful, but not heavy. * The Bluefin Tuna Belly, Hamachi, Hamachi Belly, Unigyu, Salmon, and Salmon Belly sushi were all fresh. * The Hon-Maguro Toro Tataki literally melted in my mouth. The toro itself was delicious, although I thought the ponzu sauce was a bit overpowering and would have preferred less of it so the fish could shine. The only item that didn't quite work for me was the Sweet Shrimp Sushi. The shrimp itself was good, but the lemon/cream topping overpowered the natural sweetness and felt unnecessary. I also wish the sushi pieces were a little bigger for the price haha. Parking can be a bit challenging since the lot is small and the spaces are tight, but there is street parking nearby. I'd come back and would recommend it to anyone looking for sushi in La Jolla. Yum!
