Cream cheese wontons are always a hit! Service always super friendly and attentive. So many great rolls here, you will have to try them all :)

Cute little spot in OB we tried for lunch. Service was quick and friendly, we were greeted and sat right away. Was not a huge fan of the huge pieces the roll was cut into, they were too big for me but others might like it hefty like that? Otherwise everything was fresh and tasted good.

Good place if you want decent straight-forward sushi. We got two rolls, calamari, and the stuffed jalapenos. My favorite of the four items were the jalapenos but the calamari was cooked very well. Not rubbery at all like most places. Service was pretty speedy, but the restaurant wasn't that busy at the time. Towards the end our meal more diners started to file in and the vibes were good. Decent if you want a simple sushi happy hour.

I've been coming here for years! We've even had a few birthdays here. I love the fresh sushi here. The prices are great and the food is always good. The service is always 100 too. Thank you Sushiya :)

My buddy is a regular here so when we walk in, they pretty much have his drink ready and sushi being prepared. The staff is friendly, and will check on you often. I highly recommend the OB Lighthouse roll. It is so good. My favorite roll, possibly anywhere. Clean restaurant, and only a few blocks from OB Pier. Awesome spot. Check them out and try the OB Lighthouse

You can find better quality sushi for better prices in San Diego, but if you're in the area, it's not a bad choice. The place is a bit run down and small, but you're in a beachy area so that's expected. Staff is friendly and will leave you alone until you need them which I appreciate.

Samurai roll 10/10

It's a very different pho experience…read more I ordered the original pho. The soup did have the full spectrum of unami. Slightly less herbal aroma than average pho, I think. But what made this very different than usual, was the soup didn't feel complete when I tasted it. Until I put the lime juice in it. It added the punch that soup needed, and flavor felt complete. And that's what I thought was interesting. Usually, lime in pho is optional, at least for me. This is a first pho where I have to have lime juice in it for full experience.

It doesn't matter if the music is so loud it gives us all a headache. These are the things I never want to put in a review. If you enjoy very spicy food, order the house fried rice. And please don't ask for less spice because they put it into the mix so there's no room for adjustments. They add so many interesting vegetables providing crunch, so many different meats and when you hit a 'flavor spot' in the rice, you know why people order it. With the Aloha Spirit on my mind lately, Leilani's Cafe had caught my attention. I have no idea which spirit may have been looking out, but we pulled right up to an open street parking spot nearly in front of the place. The blessings didn't end there. There was no line to order when I walked in & we found an open table immediately. But that changed shortly after my order was in. It got super busy with a line out the door to order. I had ordered the Hilo Loco Moco & Spam Musubi Leilani's Style. My fiancée got the French Toast. The food didn't take too long, as I was just ahead of the kitchen rush. It was all quite yummy & decent portion sizes. Trying some of my fiancée's French Toast, that ended up being the most interesting dish to me. I've never had that made with sweet Hawaiian bread before. & now I'm convinced that's the best way to make French Toast. So, on a day when Hawaii happened to be on my mind, Leilani's Cafe was a nice taste of the islands. Undoubtedly cheaper & more convenient than the 2,610 miles flight out to Honolulu. Though that is certainly a trip worth taking...

The band was great, the sound system was on point and the bar was very busy without feeling overly packed. We went upstairs to use the bathroom and get our drinks before the show started which was definitely the right choice. Not nearly as busy up there and only one person ahead of us to use the bathroom. I saw some folks eating the infamous OB Noodle House wings and taking peanut butter shots, I had half a mind to stay up there for a while but we didn't want to miss the band! There's also an awesome rooftop patio with a view of the ocean that we didn't go to that night. Highly recommend checking it out for their happy hour. Back downstairs for the show and I've gotta give their staff props, they did a great job sweeping through the crowd and picking up empty drinks throughout the night. My only beef with this bar is, there were so many people smoking on the patios that you couldn't get away from the smell pretty much anywhere inside. I don't remember that being an issue on previous visits but it was horrible that night.

Our server was so friendly and brought out menus quickly since it was self seating. The outside seating was the perfect spot for some people watching and generally enjoying the weather. Now in terms of the food.. we enjoyed the little pickle platter. Unfortunately it came out much earlier than the rolls and we were quite hungry so we ate most of them before our rolls came out. They would have been great pairings with the rolls themselves. The kabocha squash roll was so unique and surprisingly tasty. A sweeter creamier roll for sure. The salmon skin roll was a nice savory balance to the squash roll. I'd have to say the salmon skin roll was my favorite. We'll definitely be back to try some of the other rolls!

And this review is after that experience, so we can compare and contrast things like pricing and quality. When you come here you must bring a loaded wallet. To try a sour beer or any of their Russian River beers, (which was a surprise to us that there even was beer coming out of Russian River, a place I love for wine) .... is $19 for a bottle. And if you've never tried a sour beer and no one likes it, there are no returns. You pay your money and you take your chances. They are creative at The Joint. I mean an eel roll with macadamia nuts is a brilliant twist on sushi. The second thing we try is their soft shell crab roll. Delicious. Everyone at the table 'seconds' these comments. I ask someone on the way in, seated at a table eating sushi if it is good. He says: "I'll let you know". Later, he comes back to our table to let me yes! It's really good". So is this a good place to go for Sushi? The answer is yes. Is it a little confusing as an asian fusion place to have so many diverse choices? The answer is yes, but I also admit I do like all the options. Again, they call their Happy Hour food 'Tapas'. Is that Spanish, or is it just me? Japanese fried chicken or an arugula salad or oysters? lol Your taste buds must travel all over the place and that's hard on the palate and my headspace of 'what am I eating'? Is it overpriced? The answer is yes! And if I'm being honest, it surprises me that no one else on yelp is mentioning this. If money is not an issue and you want good sushi, our group recommends trying The Joint. Just don't count on happy hour having happy prices. $4 for an oyster is not happy! It's regular priced. Maybe even over priced for a happy hour menu where oysters come in at $1 and $2 for happy hour. And today, they are all out of oysters. lol We usually just tell you what to order when you go to a restaurant. This is the first time we have felt the need to let you know what you're in for, price wise. Sorry to the wonderful staff and great chef. No idea why they need to represent themselves as 'happy hour noon - 6pm every day', leading me to believe there is good pricing. But it's not my zoo, not my monkeys. Service was ok, most of the time overlooked because "sorry everyone came in at once" was the justification when nobody walked in and the rush lunch crowd was finishing up. The menu had plenty of offerings. LOCAL MANILA CLAMS ($18)- steamed in white wine, cilantro garlic butter & salsa fresca. Served with toasted bread (gf). First and foremost, the broth was a bit too wine-y and felt they could have cooked it down a little more to rid the alcohol taste. The amount of clams was generous. They were cleaned pretty well (very little grit found) and cooked nicely. The toasted bread helped get down the broth but still the wine flavor was overpowering. I'd like to come back and try some fish and chips but after this experience I'm not in a rush for it. Until the next review....
