Karaage
Marcus C.

Visited Ramen Ryoma for the first time after hearing glowing recommendations, and the experience was a pleasant spin on a classic ramen night out. Kicked things off with the karaage chicken, which really nailed it, crispy, flavorful, and clearly a must-try on the menu. For the main event, I went with the butter corn ramen in a shoyu broth. It was a smooth and warming bowl, though it didn't quite deliver a standout moment compared to some of the other ramen shops I've tried over the years. Service was friendly and moved at a good pace, keeping the vibe relaxed and comfortable, even if nothing particularly memorable stood out. While I have to admit I've had ramen with a bit more wow factor elsewhere, Ramen Ryoma still offers a cozy atmosphere and satisfying flavors that make it a solid spot for a casual meal. I may not have found my new go-to, but it's a nice option for anyone on the hunt for good comfort food and great fried chicken in town.

This has been a staple in Pacific Beach for years. We decided to try some where new and ended up here. The decor is amazing, they even have a male Transformer like statue made of metal(check out the pic!). I ordered the Mayu Tamago Ramen. The roasted garlic was black and made the entire dish taste burnt. It was not edible. My companion ordered the Spicy Ramen and added the roasted garlic and again destroyed the flavor of the dish. We tried the salmon loves lemon roll. It was good but I must say the salmon on top of the roll was paper thin. The best best part of this place is the service! Staff kind and accommodating. Helped us throughout our experience and made all the difference in the world. Five stars for the staff and decor zero for the food.

Enjoyed all my food here: fire cracker sushi, Deluxe Ryoma Ramen, and Mayu Tamago Ramen. Employee was friendly. The staff greet each customer that enters. Ambiance is comfortable, chill, laid back. Found another favorite spot in PB. Would definitely return.

I never write reviews but this place was amazing! My daughter and I walked up right from the beach and staff was so welcoming. Food was AMAZING. I live 2.5 hours away but will definitely eat here again once in the area. SO FLAVORFUL. You can even SEE the flavor. They even gave my daughter "trainers" for her chopsticks. We've been to many ramen spots, even lived in Japan, and have never seen such thing. 100% recommend! I ordered the spicy ramen with miso broth. The only thing I will say is meat wise they only have pork for the ramen. There is a veggie ramen though if you prefer no meat.

This is their ramen - not worth the time or the money, especially when served in plastic.

Plastic ramen. Was super excited to try this place for the first time ever after passing by this place maybe 100 times. I ordered and left a tip and they actually served this to me in plastic container. This is 100% not Japanese and not authentic Ramen. Avoid this place at all costs. Gross disgusting plastic noodles. Guessing it's very likely there food also has parasites.

Miso is as advertised... In shop crafted and super delicious!

First off the service was par excellence! Standard Japanese greeting upon entering any reputable ramen shop. I'll say it now... I'm biased towards shoyu ramen and this place delivers. Normally when in town we DoorDash it.... But since we were in PB this time we walked right up. Being from the SGV it's very difficult to find shoyu ramen. Everyone is making tonkotsu. Wife had the miso ramen and I had the shoyu.. Both deluxe style... The chashu was the best we have all had in a long time and the shoyu delivered as always. Same with the miso. As is, this is a must have if you appreciate ramen.

We were craving ramen on our visit to Sam Diego. We had been eating Mexican food for a couple of days. I looked at Yelp and found this place had good reviews. This place is pretty popular. We had to wait about 15 minutes. It was worth the wait. I ordered spicy pork belly ramen with an egg. Usually, the other places give you more broth and less ramen. This place had a good quantity of ramen and a nice balance of broth. The broth was very flavorful. I wish there was more pork belly. Service was great and the ambiance was amazing.

Are any of their broths vegetarian? The vegetable ramen appears to still have the pork-based broth?

Vegetable broth is an option, made from soy milk and miso.

We were there 15 minutes before they opened. Although, we were eighth in line, we were seated first since no one else was around. Once we were seated, our server came around and took our order for drinks and appetizer. We started with seaweed salad, fried gyoza, and tuna carpaccio. The tuna carpaccio was delicious and I loved the garlic. I wanted to order everything on the menu, but was sold on the rolls. I ordered the spicy hamachi roll and the cherry blossom roll, which was recommended by the server. Both rolls were the freshest sushi I've had in a long time. The flavors were perfect and they weren't flashy rolls. They were classic rolls that showcased the fish so well. The service was incredible, everyone was so friendly and I really enjoyed the whole experience. I can't wait to come back, especially on a colder day to try their ramen!

I genuinely thought people were exaggerating how great this place was, especially when it came to authenticity. They were not. Not one item we ordered was bad and we ordered about 20 dishes. The ramen was the absolute winner. Best ramen I have had in San Diego. I was blown away by the broth and the noodles. The sushi was great, including the spicy tuna. Everything tasted fresh and fairly priced. You really can't beat these prices. The fried chicken and tuna carpaccio were standout appetizers. Honorable mention to the chicken katsu roll. It was insanely massive and so good. We will absolutely be back to try more appetizers and the ramen. We recently went to Japan and this ramen has been the closest we have had to what we experienced there. I didn't even take a picture of it before it was in my stomach!

Located in a small shopping center with a few parking spaces, Tanuki is a great tapas and standard sushi spot. It leans more toward Asian‑fusion tapas with some sushi rolls and a limited selection of nigiri and sashimi. If you're looking for specialty fish, a huge roll list, or omakase, this isn't that kind of sushi place.
