They're okay for a stealership, but you have to watch your invoices and recommended services like a hawk for phantom charges and decline repetitive work your car doesn't need. Example: got spark plugs replaced at 75K per the service schedule. Yet, every time I get an oil change, the same spark plug service is 'recommended' again. Same with the fuel and induction service. This is a service recommended every 30K for direct-injected engines. Fine. But stop trying to get me to pay $300 every visit to have it done again. That's a bold-faced scam. I don't understand this process because it hurts their reputation. People talk. I tell friends not to go to a particular dealership if they're shady. Shady service department practices hurt the sales floor guys in the long-run, right? How is this difficult to understand? Trust requires every department to be transparent otherwise the entire business is looked at as dishonest. It's the same with any industry. Also, just the other day after an oil change they recommended an alignment without even so much as a road test (because I was there for a simple oil change). I just had new tires put on and paid $130 for an alignment after having the lower control arms swapped out. What are they smoking? The car tracks straight as an arrow (if they bothered to drive it). They're literally just making stuff up and hoping gullible people will pay. That bothers me. It used to be dealers would try and up-sell you on things like engine air filters and cabin air filters for an extra $30 bucks. These days they try and get you on multiple $200-$300 dollar 'repairs' every 4-6 months. It's an incredibly disingenuous process that drives away repeat customers. And the mind-blowing thing is, all dealerships do this. And before someone says, "well, it's Mazda's maintenance schedule for your car's mileage that just shows up on their screen," I just have this to say: Can the service department's software cross-reference my car's history (the stuff I've paid for recently), before automatically generating a redundant recommended service? It seems like this would be a cinch with a custom LLM deployed across their back-end platform. But obviously that would cost them money and only benefit the customer so, of course that'll never happen. Another thing that's very strange and annoying about this place, is that if you request a maintenance special from their official service department website, the service managers act confused and demand I show them proof on my phone (as if I were lying). Guys, it's YOUR promotion, on YOUR website. Why am I educating you on what your dealership is offering this month? The website deals aren't even printable like coupons of the past, so I'm not sure how they expect people to claim these without hassle. Perhaps service managers need regular refreshers on current dealership discounts. The only reason I take my out-of-warranty car to this dealership anymore is the occasional 33% discount on oil changes. You'd have to be out of your mind to pay $120+ for a retail-priced oil change for a 4-cylinder car. Lastly, I keep all my invoices and receipts, and on my last visit, there was an unexplained $4.99 fee at the bottom (not part of the itemized labor and supplies at the top of the page). I didn't appreciate that and it wasn't worth my time to drive back and have it explained. Very annoying, especially since I come here often. That being said, everyone's generally pretty friendly, and the work is (usually) performed in less time than anticipated. Not only did Mazda Horne Tempe lose a sale--they lost me as a customer. I have consistently had issues with the service department here, and this experience was the final straw. I arrived at 7:30 a.m. There were no cars in the waiting area, and the dealership did not appear busy. Troy came out and asked what I needed. I explained that my car battery had died twice and asked if a technician could take a look at it. Before I could even finish explaining, he cut me off and said, "Just so you know, you're going to have to keep your car here." I asked why, since I was only asking for someone to inspect the battery. He told me, "Because there are other scheduled appointments, and we can't look at your car before yours." I asked how long it would take, and he said, "Several hours," while speaking to me in a tone that made it very clear I was an inconvenience. I told him, "Alright, I'll go to another Mazda dealership." His response? "Okay." No attempt to help. No effort to find a solution. No concern for the fact that I was reporting a potentially serious battery issue. Just "Okay." As I was leaving, I saw multiple technicians standing around talking rather than working on vehicles. I wasn't asking for a major repair or demanding that they bump someone else's appointment. I was simply asking if someone could take a look at my battery. I live only seven minutes from Horne Mazda, but I drove another 16 minutes to Mazda Mesa instead. That decision immediately confirmed that I made the right choice. Mazda Mesa had six cars waiting when I arrived, yet they still provided excellent customer service and immediately offered to look at my vehicle. They specifically told me that the battery issue could be dangerous, particularly if I were driving on the freeway. They were accommodating, professional, and made me feel like my business actually mattered. I also called Mazda Horne in Avondale to obtain a copy of my service records and retrieve my battery invoice. They were equally helpful and willing to assist me. The contrast between these dealerships could not have been clearer. My brother-in-law is a manager at Mazda, so I am very familiar with Mazda's services and pricing. Based on my experiences, I have serious concerns about the way the Mazda Horne Tempe service department treats customers, communicates with them, and handles charges. At this point, I have no reason to return to Horne Mazda Tempe, and I would not recommend their service department to anyone. Save yourself the frustration and take your Mazda somewhere else. They said they wanted to buy my vehicle, had a need for it, and could offer a very fair price. I said I'd never heard of a dealership doing that, and they insisted I bring it in, saying it would only take about 30 minutes and they guaranteed a fair offer. I emphasized five times that I didn't want to waste my time driving a half hour each way only to get a lowball offer. They reassured me it wouldn't be. So, I went, and exactly what I warned them not to do happened. They made a ridiculous lowball offer. My vehicle was listed for $10,500, and they offered me $5,000. What a complete waste of time -- 30 minutes there, 45 minutes waiting, and 30 minutes back. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Horne Mazda's service department. Our vehicle was brought in for recall work only, yet it remained at the dealership for nearly three months. During that time, we received excuse after excuse, including: * The foreman was sick.* The foreman was out of town.* The foreman would come in over the weekend to finish the work (which never happened). The only time we saw any progress was when we personally went to the dealership to check on the vehicle. When we arrived, we found our sports car sitting outside covered in dirt and dust. We specifically requested that it be cleaned before pickup. I used to come to this dealership for service on my Mazda, I decided to go to them again for a deal on a new car and they just proved they are the same sleazy car salesmen you'll find anywhere else. Contacted me with a windows sticker on a 2026 MX-5 RF in Soul Red with manual transmission that was in transit and told me they'd give me 5,000 off MSRP for 35,970 + 599 window tint, VLT and Tax for a total OTD of 41,332 (they padded the VLT an additional $400 on initial message). I scheduled an appointment to go down there on a Sunday morning to make a deal. When I get there, they try to sell me on a 2025 MX-5 Soft top that I never expressed interest in. Then they tried to sell me on cars in transit to other dealers instead of the one we initially discussed that they had in transit. The 5,000 discount all the sudden was only $3,600 and then they tried to tack on another $1198 in "Installed options". Their salesperson Jorge told me "Oh that's for the installed options like cargo net, first aid kit" which I countered that is already included in the full MSRP of the car on their window sticker. The add-ons also only came out to 925, not 1198. Their 5,000 off was now only for the soft top they had in stock that was never discussed and was not the car they had sent me the deal on. They go back to their sales manager who finally comes out and again will not honor the $5,000 discount they had text me about to get me into the dealership and tried to claim the additional $1,198 they tacked on and never mentioned before was for paint protection and vin etching. I can get a full front PPF done for 1200 from Auto Cosmetics 2 miles down the road which is way better than any dealer installed "paint protection" scam and vin etching is free from a Sheriff's office. Bait and Switch. I found a Mazda6 at a good price and called to inquire. As shown in the first photo, on 5/23 the price (before doc fees) was $19,999. On 5/26 it was changed to $19,899. That is the number I saw (see second screen shot). I called to inquire, as that was a good price for the vehicle. After I called in and spoke to the sales rep, the price increased by $1,600. The price I saw on Carfax was a "mistake" I was told. But the price had been reviewed on 5/26 and REDUCED by $100. A customer shows interest, and suddenly "whoops, we made a mistake", twice. Even if it was an error (twice), this wasn't off by a decimal place, where the price is simply ridiculous, it was within a reasonable window. A company, and person, with integrity would honor the price, but make clear no negotiation would be allowed - perfectly reasonable. Instead, when I suggest they should honor the price, and the point out the price DECREASE on 5/26, I received a metaphorical shrug (this conversation was via text). When I inform them I'll be complaining on Yelp, the response was "Have a nice day". Based on the clear indifference to either fairness, ethical practices or customer satisfaction, I can only assume that this is standard business practice. While I'm sure not illegal, it certainly enters ethically ambiguous territory. I realize honoring your word can be challenging when it ceases to be in your best interest, but for these folks the concept seems never to have crossed their minds. read more

Brought in my Mazda RX8 for an inspection, as this was the only place I could find with a "rotary specialist". They checked out my vehicle, and after a week of it being there they told me what the issue was, a mass airflow sensor. I took it home and did the repair myself, and that didn't solve the issue. I messaged them and they told me I needed a specific MAF from their website which is expensive. I troubleshooted myself and turns out the MAF wasn't an issue at all. I fixed it by replacing the solenoids. Only reason i'm rating 2 stars is because I got an alignment and it went fine. My co worker also bought a Mazda CX7 from them, and within a week it started leaking tons of oil, they sold him a crappy car. Would not do business with this place again. read more

It appears to me that up to the purchase of a vehicle the Horne Mazda personnel take good care of their (potential) customers, however, after a purchase there is dead silence (including from their GM Kylor Messmer). I still have not received a confirmation or any document showing that the 2025 CX-50 Hybrid I purchased a couple of weeks ago is in fact a Mazda-certified pre-owned vehicle as claimed with up-to-date maintenance performed. So far, I have had a great experience with the service department here, mainly Troy, which is the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1. However, I highly do NOT recommend working with the salesman Brian at this dealership. He wasn't very knowledgeable and had to fix multiple things on his end during the deal. He didn't know which features the car had that I had already inquired about and scheduled an appointment to look at. He went back and forth on how things were going to go during the deal multiple times as well. Then, after all of that, I noticed that there are some large white spots of spackle or something of that nature on the outer door panel of the driver and passenger side doors. He promised me that he'll order the parts and get it taken care of, I'll just need to drive the hour back to the dealership to have it completed later. Annoying, but fine. I texted him over a 5 month long period asking him when the parts would be in. He kept saying "soon" and he'd "get back to me." He never got back to me. Then I messaged him letting him know a few weeks before I was going in for an oil change so he could make sure to have the parts ready for me then. He responded "k." The day of the appointment, I dropped my car off, texted Brian who I left it with and he read my text, didn't respond, then blocked my number! No apology or any accountability whatsoever. It's safe to say that I will not be going back to Horne Mazda for any further car purchases if these are the kind of employees that they keep on the sales staff. I bought a used Volkswagen Jetta from Horne Mazda and was given two keys--but only one of them works. The second key doesn't operate the ignition or doors. When I brought this up, they told me I'd need to go to a different dealership (a Volkswagen dealer) to fix it and that it might require a new ignition stem. This is extremely frustrating. I purchased the vehicle from Horne Mazda, not VW, and I expected them to stand behind what they sold me. A car should come with working keys--basic stuff. Instead of taking ownership and helping me resolve it, they passed the responsibility and left me with a potential repair bill. Very disappointed in the lack of accountability and customer service. I bought a used BMW that they advertised and they said that the vehicle will be inspected 160 points which was a lie and when I asked for the reports they said that they will look in to it at the end of the deal when everything was finalized, they said that they only check for safety. One week later car over heated and come to find out that there was no coolant in the radiator and contacted the dealership and got the run around and finally Manager called me back with a apologies and no help at all. Car is leaking coolant from oil filter housing and the estimate for repair is $2400. Horne Mazda once they collected their money they don't care about customer relationships or care. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone at all. It is very sad to say that they are all about the money and no customer service!!! read more

The service department here are total crooks. They serviced my son's car recently, and he just last week sold it to somebody else. Great car, drives like a dream. After it sold, the new owner took the car here for an inspection, and they tried to sell him on some of the EXACT SAME THINGS they had just replaced on the car just a few weeks ago! Total slimeball move. I got a bad taste from them a few years ago when they "met us half way" on a repair that Mazda knows is a common failure point and I'm certain Mazda corporate offered a "goodwill repair" at no cost, as manufacturers are known to do when they're exposed to a common and expensive post-warranty repair. But the dealership charged us half the repair expense anyway and pocketed the money. read more

I posted a review a couple days ago, but now I have a follow-up. I had purchased a used vehicle from Horne Mazda in Tempe a couple weeks. At the time of the test drive, I did not check the A/C because it was a cold, windy and rainy day. This week, when the temperature approached 100 degrees, I tried the A/C for the first time...........it didn't work. It just blew hot air. I assumed that the A/C unit just needed to be recharged. I called the dealership to see if they could check it out and whether it was covered or not. They informed me that it was not covered because I bought the vehicle 'as is'. So, I took the car to an independent auto repair shop. Long story short, it doesn't just need a freon recharge. Rather, the whole condenser is shot and needs to be replaced. Over $2000 in repairs. Now, to be fair, it is my fault for not checking it during the test drive. At the same time, I feel that the dealership bears some responsibility as well for at least a couple reasons: (1) they didn't check it before they resold the vehicle, or (2) if they did check it, they knew it didn't work and they did not disclose that to me. So, a good lesson for anyone reading this who may ever be in the market for a used car. Check EVERYTHING, question EVERYTHING and walk away if it doesn't feel right. read more

We used Consumer Reports True Car service and were intrigued when a local Mazda dealer was offering a discount of $5057 on a 2024 Mazda CX-5. Follow-up phone calls/emails with Colin, and later Alan turned out to be a huge letdown. In order to get the $5057 discount the dealer includes a mandatory $1997 of add-ons that are non negotiable. In other words the discount is only $3060. This is fraudulent and the only purpose is to draw you into the dealership where they get to play the 4-square game, or let us see your keys to evaluate a trade-in, only to claim they have no idea where your keys are at. STAY AWAY from HORNE MAZDA Alan's own words: "I have been on the internet side for many years, and understand how consumers shop. They shop for the biggest discount and you yourself stated the $5,000 off is what drew you to us over the $3,000 discount. Just proof that the ideology behind it works." "Let's be real with each other, the only reason you looked at us is because of the $5,000 discount, if you had seen only a $3,000 discount and the others showed $5,000, we never would have had an opportunity." Called about what was considered a luxury used car, premium plus Audi convertible. Guy on phone said he was a manager & that car looks & runs great, since I told him I live far away & didn't want to waste a trip. Took it for a test drive & found that none of the tech stuff worked: screen, back up camera, navigation, radio, CD player & more. The screen wouldn't turn on due to buttons being frozen. Also brought it to their attention large grease marks on the headliner near rear window. They said would notify service manager to fix & update me since I was still interested. Three days later I get a call from another guy who calls himself a sales manger, following up thanking me for my visit & if I liked the car. Told him about necessary repairs & he knew nothing about it, but would look into it & update me. Nothing for 4 days so I call, get the original 'manager' & he plays dumb then starts to tell me he doesn't know if they are going to fix this as "it costs money to do repairs." Wow, that's interesting. I stopped him right there since I realized these guys have no idea what they're doing & was very thankful I didn't enter into a contract. Imagine, a large, new & used car dealer doing business this way. I figure their so called managers are called that if they mange to get to work on time or manage to answer the phone. Came here for service for the first time. Made an appointment for 11am. I arrived at 10:40 and was told that it would take 2 hours for my oil change to be done. I had no way of leaving since I have my small child with their car seat so I just stayed and waited. Turned out it was almost 3 hours before they finished my car, for just an oil change. Very frustrating when you make an appointment and still have to wait so long. I wish the person who made my appointment told me it would take long regardless. On my way home from the appointment, My tire pressure light turned on (I've never had dash lights before) after they were supposed to inspect everything. Very frustrating and won't go back. Another Mazda dealership that I had previously leased at quoted me WAY more to start for same vehicle. When I told them Horne had better offer they immediately countered w cheaper price. Which actually annoyed me. Why not start there for a loyal customer?! Horne then beat that price. But even if Horne didn't I'd have gone w them because I just trusted them more.
