Food was good, service was excellent and they even gave us a free cake as we're celebrating birthday as well. We didn't expect it but thank you so much for. We highly recommend this restaurant . Detson was very kind too and always checks up on us if we still have water

Staff was very lovely! Everyone showed great hospitality. In terms of ambiance, Hoo Izakaya is smaller in size than you would expect, so I'd recommend coming here with smaller parties. There was an incense in the room that I wasn't a huge fan of and felt the smell was a bit too strong. Prices were a bit up there, but it is what I'd expect from an Izakaya. Hotate Onsen: This was my favorite appetizer. Very unique blend of flavors and refreshing. Chicken Karaage: Portion size was appropriate, and chicken was not too greasy. The batter itself didn't have much flavor, so I think it could be improved with a sauce at the side/as a topping. Sushi Rolls: Yummy rolls. Nothing outstanding in my opinion but also not bad.

Nice experience for dinner. Service was great and it's a fun environment to be in with a group of friends. We tried the hamachi sun-kissed. Fish was fresh with a little bit of spice from the jalapeño. Wish it had a little more of the dipping sauce. The fries with spicy mayo were crunchy with a good seasoning. The chicken karage was a nice size portion. It was crispy and flavorful it paired well with the fries spicy mayo sauce. Hubby loved his spicy tonkotsu ramen. Said it's one of the better ones he has tried in the area. Glad to have this spot close to us. Can't wait to be back and try some of their fun cocktails.

We visited during their soft opening, so I understand there might still be a few kinks to work out. The location is relatively easy to find, right next to Gu Thai-- We were greeted by the host, but honestly, the service could have been a bit more helpful. It seemed like some of the food was sourced from Gu Thai, while other dishes were specific to the new restaurant. The appetizers were tasty, but the entrees lacked the bold flavors we were hoping for. The ambiance was great, with EDM music setting a unique vibe. That said, the bartender and what I believe was the owner were both very friendly and attentive, which made a positive impression. A downside was the lack of bathrooms, which would've been nice to have. Overall, the experience was decent. Looking forward to seeing how they evolve as they settle in.

How lovely is the staff! Everyone shows great hospitality and genuinely looks happy to be a part of the team that runs this place led by Jak. AMBIANCE: Hoo Izakaya is smaller in size than you expect, yet it's got room for lots of laughter, intimate conversations, and smiles at the bar. There is a large projector screen nestled in the back by the long table that serves a group. It shows the video matching the music, which is a type of EDM that could take you through a night in the bar - it's got a beat, varying tempos and volumes, and not too much variation. SERVICE: Knowledgeable for sure, it is clear that this staff spends time together exploring and developing their menu. They are friendly and certainly add to the vibe and appeal. Everyone that works here works as a team, and they bustle around in the background so that people have a smooth and customer-centric experience. APPETIZERS: This is the definition of Izakaya, and it's definitely fun to eat in the setting with the bar and music playing. Takoyaki - Yes! They have mastered this. The size of the takoyaki is great so that it doesn't fall apart and still maintains its crispy outside the center is warm and fluffy. To each their own when it comes to takoyaki size and texture, so do as you wish :) Chicken karaage - like all of its kind, this gets cold quite quickly. It's wonderful here because the pieces are an appropriate size and there is not an excess of oil or of breading. The batter itself doesn't have much flavor apart from saltiness, so it would probably fair well with a sauce at its side or some sort of topping. Tamago: This is more dense than a usual tamago. It's prepared welll and the mantaiko sauce on top does the trick. The density seems to add to a slight bit of dryness on the outside, but it's better than others. Tamago is usually a bit of an afterthought, especially since the flavor is difficult to exact, so I give them credit here. KAISEN-DON and SUSHI: The fish is definitely fresh, let's start with that. I really appreciated the options on this menu because of the room for customization and trying a bit of everything. The kaisen-don menu is easily digestible (no pun intended... I promise I don't make that joke often) in that there are 3 options that vary mainly in fish type. Each one can be "upgraded" to include uni and ikura or to include premium fish options. The descriptions on the menu are pretty helpful. This dish comes out on a really nice wooden board with seaweed to make a handheld experience (albeit there are only 3 pieces). It's a bit fisher than a nigiri, so be sure you like to eat a few different bites of raw fish. It's worth mixing the rice at the end with the soy sauce raw egg and pouring the ochazuke (a warm tea-like liquid) to make for a second experience. It ends up tasting like you'd think given the main ingredients are sushi rice and soy sauce/egg. The sushi options pair well with the chef's specials. You can choose nigiri in different combinations, and that comes with 6 pieces of a roll of your choice. These rolls are not a long list of specials, but rather a succinct list of simple rolls that are unique and pair well in taste and in plating with the nigiri. They are even still working together to expand and adjust their menu. I'd definitely order this again. DRINKS: The bartender is as fun as one should be. It's obvious that he enjoys the art of new recipes, and he is happy to describe any drink and make recommendations. Jose is always experimenting with the menu, and the customers' taste buds are a top priority. SIDES: Okay... don't write a review about eggs, girl. Sorry, I must! Lots of places do the ramen egg well, so this joins the crew. What I appreciate about Hoo's egg is that there's a subtle sweetness mixed with the perfect touch of vinegar so that it leaves a delicate taste. It goes without saying (well, a lot was said), that Hoo's has a Sugarloaf Duluth setting that is unmatched. Hop over here after Paris Baguette to enjoy the night as if you don't live in the suburbs!

This is my first time trying this place and overall I have a really good experience. The servers were very attentive and patient to explain the menu to me. The environment is well decorated to fit the theme of the restaurant. I have the mini Kaisen Don and spicy tonkatsu ramen. Both are delicious. But I love the mini Don more. Cool little place to check out.

I ordered a pick up for one of the bowls and found hair in the rice. Other items I ordered were good.

It's okay. Menu is not same as you see on Yelp. It's typical Korean own Japanese restaurant, That's I thought. Little too much TRYING I see as Japanese. And the Egg souce thing... no bueno. Why? Ponzu??? With egg??? No to me.

Really good pork Tonkatsu ! Loved the marinated egg. Would recommend for dinner or lunch

(SOFT OPENING) just okaaaayyyy.. food was mehhh but drinks were FIRE! The bartender here is GREAT! food tho, not so great. The "Viral Japanese Kaisen-Don"'is NOT worth almost $40, don't waste your time or money on that. The vibes in here are awesome, but it's also super small. So if you have a group more than like 4 people... get ready to wait. Definitely want to come back for grand opening to drink more of Jose's cocktails and try out any new possible menu options (2 be continued.......)

    Hamachi love Tuna

We tried this place for the first time and it didn't disappoint. There were two of us and we ordered 3 rolls which was filling for the both of us portion wise which is similar to most sushi places we go to. We tried the Double Crunchy Roll, Spicy Salmon, and Hamachi love Tuna. The texture of the Double Crunchy Roll was my favorite I would definitely recommend to someone who likes tempura shrimp. The taste of the Spicy Salmon was really good it was just a slight spice so the flavoring was good without being too overpowering. The Hamachi love Tuna would probably be my least favorite roll. It was a combination of the main component being tuna and it being hot in spice and temperature. I think the combination of this with the other rolls was also off putting. If you like tuna and hot in spice and temperature I would recommend just a warning. The ambiance and area itself was really nice I like how it felt homey almost with the seating and decorations. There were photos of staff and customers with some funny images which I liked. It was a very inviting place. I will say the water tasted a little odd to me could be since it was tap maybe but I just have a weird preference for water. The service was decent I will say since we came late they may not have many people working hence it being a little slow. There was one man taking orders, making drinks, and serving. I would assume there are more people working earlier in the day. I will definitely be returning since the quality of sushi was good might have to come earlier in the day though.

The inside is really cool. Feels like your time travel straight to a hole in the wall in Japan. I got the spicy tonkatsu and it was the perfect spice level. It's rare to find Kirin Ichiban on draft, if you haven't tried it and like beer give it a try. The bar tender Jose is really cool and attentive. Definitely will be coming back here for all my ramen needs. Thanks Hōō

    Spicy tonkatsu
    Alijah B.

Very good ramen spot to try. I was pleasantly surprised to walk into the restaurant and feel like I was back in Okinawa. The artwork strongly resembled ramen spots I'd walk into in Japan. I didn't have high hopes for the spicy tonkatsu but, it turned out to be incredible. And the servers were welcoming and attentive. I'll definitely be back with some folks.

The manager (or, I'm assuming he was a manager, because he never said he was or was not) named Chef was the person I spoke to about being hired. He told me to come back for a shadowing session on Monday to see if I was a good fit. He told me to text him to confirm the date the weekend before, and when I texted him on Saturday, as we had talked about, I received no response. I texted him again several times on Sunday, and got nothing back until late that evening, less than 24 hours from the shift we had talked about, asking if we could do it Tuesday instead. I agreed and returned the following day. Right off the bat, it was weird; he never took down any information from me aside from my name and phone number, and showed me how to clock in and then told me to go right to the woman at the bar to look over the menu. He didn't tell me anything about pay, hours, a resume, experience, tasks, or even offer me a tour of the place, which I thought was odd. For reference, my boyfriend and I have both had a lot of experience managing and owning businesses, so we understand the process, and he backed me up on this when I brought it up to him. About 30 minutes into my shift, they ended up mentioning that their host never showed up, and I told them that I had experience and if they gave me a quick training talk, I'd learn it quickly. They put me up front, but didn't give me any instructions or check in with me the entire time, while I sat up there. About halfway through my shift, the woman at the bar called me back and asked me to go to Walmart and pick up some ingredients for them with some cash she offered me. I thought it was a bit strange, especially since they didn't have any information on me yet, but I agreed. I returned and continued my shift, and still nobody checked in with me the entire four hours. Well, eventually 10 o'clock rolled around (the time we'd agreed I would stop), and yet nobody showed any signs of coming up to tap me out. And then 10:30 came, and I ended up walking up to Chef, and a gentleman I assumed was another manager, and later realized may have actually been the owner, and he was at the bar smoking a hookah and drinking while still on shift. I asked him if they were trying to get me to stay till 11 or something, or if I misunderstood the time, but before I could tell him that I needed to leave soon because I'm also a full-time medical student, he ended up telling me that I could stay, like he thought I was asking. I thought I maybe could've phrased it better, so I ended up biting my tongue and went back up to the front for another 30+ minutes. While I was on shift, I noticed many more red flags that made me uncomfortable. For example, many of the on-clock staff were at the bar drinking and smoking the whole time with the owner. At some point during the jazz band, one of the employees ordered at least two mixed drinks and sat down with all the customers to watch, and apparently got wasted from what I heard. They also told us that we aren't allowed to say no if somebody orders us a shot because it's rude, even if it made us uncomfortable. (I looked it up with my boyfriend later, and we both confirmed that working while under the influence is against federal law.) They also said that servers would need to carry your own cash around because they didn't carry cash in the register, which means that the waiters have to break their own bills and bring in at least $50 worth of cash in order to start their shift, and risk losing out on money if we can't break a bill or something. My shift finally ended at 11:20, another 20 minutes after our agreed time, only because I basically told them that I was leaving instead of asking. And that whole time, no one once said anything to me about hosting, when they wanted me to return, pay, or anything. After I left around 11:30, I heard nothing back from Chef until two days later, after he completely ignored me until then, when he asked if I could come back in an hour after he messaged me. I told him I would not be returning because of how uncomfortable and inattentive it felt, and I asked about pay, since I had worked about a 5-hour shift for free thus far, and he never replied. I didn't push because, honestly, I just wanted to walk away from what had happened from how sketchy it was, even when I was encouraged not to. For bonus, the backroom was really gross. The whole area smelled like the dishpit hadn't been cleaned in days, and the towel room was basically just cloth thrown about. I've worked in a lot of restaurants, and this was by far the most unclean and untidy one I'd seen. I won't be going back, and honestly just want to leave this behind me, and warn anyone who may apply there in the future.

The Brussels sprouts were the hardest to eat they were basically raw, just thinly sliced with sauce poured over. It would've been much better if they were at least steamed or grilled a bit. The mushrooms, though, were absolutely BOMB! If I didn't know what it was, I would've thought it was some sort of meat dish super soft, flavorful, and delicious. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The Wagyu, on the other hand, was a big disappointment. For the price, it was tough and chewy when it should've been buttery and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Overall, the place is cute and the vibes are nice, but the food was overpriced for what it was. I'd only come back for those mushrooms they were that good.

I placed an order for everything on the carte menu. Food was fun and a few of the dishes caught me off guard, in a good way. Pros. We loveeed the maitake mushrooms. This dish was one dish my friend and I had low expectations for. Ironically it's the only dish we would go back for! The bucatini I also had low expectations for. I hardly order pasta, from non pasta specialty places, because the pasta is 99% of the time going to be overcooked. BUT this bucatini was cooked perfectly al dente. The sauce was rich but not too heavy and just enough to cover the noodles without drowning. The crab taste was pretty faint. If it weren't listed on the menu I wouldn't even think it were in the dish. Cons. The brussel sprout salad was honestly almost inedible. It is a raw shaved brussel sprout salad, dressed as a Caesar salad. Although not bad tasting, the core of the sprouts was not tender but dry and hard. There was also a lot of it. Most disappointing was the "waygu ribeye". The quality was pretty horrible. The piece we got had silver skin as well as chunks of fat. I wish I got a picture of the leftover fat from the steak but if you look at my picture you can clearly see slices of just fat. I love a little fat on a well cooked ribeye and do not mind paying for it. But paying $50 for a probably 8oz "waygu" ribeye with only half of it palatable is wild. Regardless, I'm actually going back in a couple of days with my husband because of those amazing mushrooms.. though as I am writing this review I'm debating on canceling my reservation, ordering the mushrooms to go, and just going elsewhere. lol

They have a few TVs for viewing and had a live belly dancer briefly perform. They didn't have a DJ. It seems like they were playing music from a music playlist, which was a mix of RnB and Hip Hop. Their menu has food, drink, and hookah options. They had nothing on the menu except for Suya; so, we didn't have food. The drinks were pretty good and reasonably priced, given that they were served in plastic cups. The hookah was pretty good and lasted awhile. Of note, the bartender couldn't take cash because she didn't have enough change in the register to return; the only option was card payment.

The sign would advise they open at 5, but doors wouldn't open until nearly an hour later. They would frequently do grocery runs to Walmart then charge you the same amount for items such as wings that were clearly different and finally arrived right before they close the lounge. So you literally had to box them, then pay your bill to close..... With that said, The recent visit I made last week was MUCH better. Decor of this locale is real loungy and sleek. Nice ambiance for a Gwinnett experience...The staff is very pleasant, and the Siracha wings are amazing!!! Presentation was so simple but nice... My friend got another chicken dish, that kinda looked like a Cordon Bleu, and that was quite tasty as well. Drinks are fair, (tiny portions with ice), and the music is good. Mix of African/Reggae/HipHop. In all, I recommend this place if the consistency stays like this....but I had to be honest about my previous experiences.

Service is always attentive, but not pesty. Burgers on the menu are always a great casual lunch or dinner. The 007 burger is my favorite. This visit they had a mascarpone ravioli with scallops, spinach, sundried tomatoes, and lobster-butter sauce. Outside seating is a winner with umbrellas for the summer and propane burners for winter. The service was already terrible when we were told to sit down wherever and then this guy comes out of nowhere and sits us down at a terrible spot, and keeps coming back to asks questions even when we ordered steak he came back to ask what temperature which is very odd because it's normally asked when you order THE steak. Ambiance is okay very simple and bland, could be more vibrant.
