The dark ambience of the restaurant was great

I went to the restaurant on my birthday and as I was dining solo, I was skeptical before going there. When I arrived there, it was a perfect ambience for my introvert self and was seated in a cosy indoor table. I knew that the serving for the food is too big for the solo diner, so I asked the waiter what they would recommend. The waitress was very helpful and she suggested me the Fried chicken which I ordered along with the tasty egg rolls (always wanted to try the Korean style) and I was NOT disappointed. As the regular Soju was not available, I asked the waitress for Soju recommendation, she suggested the Jinro Soju in Grape flavour. It was delicious and went great with my good order. I had a really good time at the restaurant and was very pleased to go there for my birthday. The only thing I felt bad about was the time limit for the table. Another waitress told me that I only had 15 minutes left to complete my food. As I was drinking, I didn't realise it had been an hour. So I wrapped up and paid my bill and left. The bad thing was that she only asked me to leave while the other customers were still sitting and enjoying their dinner. (They were their before I arrived at the table). I suppose this must be because I was dining alone. Yet, my bill was $100 which was not low for a solo diner. Anyway, I would recommend going there with friends.

We had a quick dinner before some night shopping. Whenever we are in the area K Town, it's hard to pick any other cuisine than Korean. We wanted some soup or stew for dinner and found HongDae using Google maps. It turned out to be a very good pick. There aren't many options when soup and stew that's not spicy or don't have shellfish but we are very satisfied with the pork soup. There are sooo many pork in the soup and the soup is very hearty. Aside from the soup, we also ordered grill pork hock and soy garlic fried chicken. We definitely ordered more than we can eat but the pork hock was really good. It was actually my first time eating pork hock and I don't mind ordering it again for sure. We ordered the medium size fried chicken because we thought the pieces were boneless and small but we were wrong! The bone in fried chicken is juicy and big! We quite enjoyed the food and the service. The staff was very attentive to my allergy. We will definitely come again.

Another korean restaurant in coquitlam that opens till midnight. The army base sausage was damnn good but the chicken were a little bit weak honestly. The chicken is too overflowed with the sauce and almost was just tasting the sauce. I wouldnt recommend to get the chicken here but the army base soup is something to get. Cheers!

We are exploring new favorite Korean restaurants and I found Hongdae korean restaurant on Google and IG. I am surprised that it's not on Yelp yet! We had ordered some of their signature items to try, and most of them are pretty good. * Fried chicken (small) - came with 4 pieces of rice cakes and about 5 pieces of chicken. The drumsticks are big. The skin was so crispy and well seasoned. Meat is so juicy as well. Thanks to the freshly made-to-order fried chicken that warm up this cold rainy day. * Pork bone soup (regular) - I am the one who can eat pork bone soup everyday and never get tired. Hongdae also added kimchee to the pork bone soup and no potato. I like the soup as they were very flavorful. Portion size is reasonable and can really fill you up. * Pork gut soup - it came with some seasoning, a bit of noodle and chives. The smell of the bone broth is very rich but taste light in the same time. You can add as little or as many of the seasoning as you want, which is quite a healthy option. * Hot grilled somked pork hock (small) - it was quite big when it came, and I think this can better share between three people. It's a saucy stirred fried dish and I feel the sauce was a bit too salty for us. It was a good dish and I really like the crispy rice cake they added in, but just can't eat too much since the saltiness on the heavy side. Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam had so many Korean restaurants and sometimes they are underrated because it's just too many to try/find. Hongdae is a good find for us.

This place, tucked away just 5 minutes' driving distance from Coquitlam Centre, is clearly beloved by the local Korean community. The portion sizes are generous. They are perfect for sharing with family or friends. We saw many families and younger groups dining in, which gave it a cozy, homey vibe. We can taste the love and comfort in every bite. Here's what we ordered: * Beef Tartare Bibimbap - Not your typical bibimbap! The raw beef was beautifully seasoned and full of flavour. This was hands down our favourite dish! * Naengmyeon - Cold noodles in a super refreshing broth. Perfectly chewy with a balanced, savoury tang. A must-have on a hot day. * Japchae - Excellent portion, great price. The noodles were springy and not greasy at all--just the right balance of flavour. Great value, quality ingredients, and authentic flavours--Hansol is definitely going on our go-to list whenever we're craving comforting Korean food. We are highly recommend it for students, families, or anyone who loves real Korean cooking! Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Price: $30-$40 each person (dinner) Presentation: 3/5 Parking: 4/5 Tips: * Free refillable banchan (side dishes) * Must-try: naengmyeon (cold noodles) * Hidden gem: beef tartare bibimbap-flavourful and beautifully presented. * Limited seating - expect wait during peak hours * Tasty, affordable, and generous portions Would I Return: Yes ‍

We ordered short rib BBQ, Beef tartare Bibimbap, and original-flavor deep-fried chicken wings. Beef tartare Bibimbap was served in a hot stone bowl with a variety of vegetables on top of the rice. The gochujang sauce was served separately, allowing us to adjust the spiciness to our preference. It was a pretty good dish. The short rib BBQ was very tender and nicely seasoned. It was slightly on the sweeter side, very delicious. I will definitely order it again. The original flavor deep-fried chicken wings were served fresh and hot. They were incredibly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside--very good! Next time, I should order them with a flavored seasoning, as I already knew the original version was cooked with less saltiness, meant to be paired with a sauce. Overall, I really like this restaurant. The food tasted good, and the most notable point was the reasonable price! It was a very good deal, and it has now become one of my regular go-to places.

Staff are friendly but understaffed. Once the place filled up they were swamped. Signature steamed seafood pot - definitely on the pricey side, but they don't skimp out. Special mention for the presentation. Plenty of goodies including an entire lobster, half a large octopus (tenticle/arm half), snails, oysters, scallops, prawns, and fish balls among others. Basically everything without fish. Served in a large tray (the ones seen at banquet buffets), and everything cooked in broth. This was enough to probably feed 4-5 adults (assuming average appetites). So pretty. Deep fried squid with fries - honestly this dish was meh. Basically exactly what it sounds like. Squid is tempura style. Nothing special. I'd skip this one. Bossam (pork belly wraps) - served with tofu and spicy kimchi and some vegetable (kelp?) as well. They don't really give enough wraps compared to the pork slices. Decent portion size. My friends and I gobbled this up. This place also serves makgeolli (Korean rice wine) for a very reasonable price. Goes well with the food. Overall my friends and I left happy. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try some other dishes. Recommended.

The servers were extremely attentive in asking about refills, whether that's the rice, meats or even side dishes. A great bang for your buck for all you can eat these days. I was craving this soup and glad I tried it here because it hit the spot! Tasted delicious, didn't have to wait for a table, and it was reasonably priced then. Came back here last night for dinner with my family and was finally able to try the bbq items. It was a hit! We ordered 2 of the combo A which was the perfect servings for 2 adults and 3 (very hungry!) teenaged boys. Not only did it come with 3 meat types (thinly sliced pork belly, marinated beef Bulgogi, and one other thinly sliced beef), it also came with soup, banchan, and a big bowl of Bibimbap. We also ordered their seafood pancake which was perfectly crispy and not too thin or thick. The actual bbq grill itself was the best one I've seen at a Korean restaurant because it was non-stick, temperature controlled really well, and it didn't leave us smelling like the food after dining. The ventilation must've been good here as it wasn't super smoky at all. The best dish was definitely the bean paste soup! We all loved it and had never tried it before, so next time we have Korean, it will be a staple in our order! It wasn't too busy last night so we were seated right away. Staff were friendly and while they were short-staffed, they were quick enough to get what we requested and ordered in a timely manner.

This place is the most authentic Korean restaurant in all of Vancouver (I swear on my mother), but if you're coming here and not ordering anything of the organ-variety you've come to the wrong place. Intestine and blood sausage can be hard to approach, but with the right seasonings and preparation, these dishes really hit the spot (ESPECIALLY with drinks oh my god). Not only does the family-owned place clean every piece of meat super well so that their intestines avoid tasting gamey, but the side dishes are also really delicious. Instead of eating basic tofu stew or spicy rice cakes at a gentrified place in downtown, try out the Makchang and Soondae Soup at this place!

Very flavourful. If you love onions, order this. Came with PURPLE RICE. I love Korean purple rice (which I believe is a mix of many different grains added to white rice). Unfortunately most Korean restaurants in Vancouver do not have purple rice. -Cold Noodle (14.99$, but they have a lunch special where, for 16.99$, you get two potato pancakes): At first I was hesitant to order this because I love buckwheat (dark gray/purplish colour) cold noodles, and these weren't those, but am so happy we did. I love the texture. The flavour of the broth was also excellent. My only qualm was the "cucumber garnishes" that, in my opinion, were actually too-sweet pickles. Other than that, highly recommend. Potato pancakes were also very yummy. They served complimentary barley tea, and had yummy banchans (kimchi radish, fish cake, and soy sauce pickled onions). The waitress (daughter of the owner-her mother) was very kind and patient with all my questions. Affordable, delicious, authentic, with good portion sizes.

I tried their Lunch Special - Jeyook rice set. For this dish, I've had better in other Korean restaurants in Vancouver. The waitress said it would be medium spicy -- it was not spicy. The sauce covered up how shredded up and fatty the pork slices were if you really looked. The flavors were just not there. The side dishes were also pretty bland for me and didn't have my usual favorites - it included shredded carrots, a mushroom-like dish, and kimchi that was not memorable. They offer some other items like Sooda Boxes and hot plates with melted cheese, etc that looks photo-worthy and probably would appeal to larger groups to share. Maybe those taste better.
