Customer service is non-existent. Here are the facts. Decide for yourself.
I've purchase several pieces from Homeworld in the past two years. Apparently, if you don't buy their extended warranty, they don't care about you once your product has been delivered.
November 2015 - Purchased beautiful wood table and chairs. A couple of chairs had to be switched out after initial delivery but I was ultimately satisfied with my purchase.
December 2015 - Found 2 giant screws on my kitchen floor. Figured out these screws had fallen out from the chairs as the chairs had begun to fall apart. No big deal, screwed them back in. This has happened multiple times since.
December 2016 (*Note: it has been one year since purchase and I am fully aware this item is no longer under warranty) - I had guests over for the Holiday, needed to expand the table. This would be the first time the table has even been moved since it was delivered. Expanded the table fully and one of the latches wouldn't close. No big deal. Leaf seams stable in expanded position. Two of us proceeded to move the table back into place after opening it up and A LEG FALLS OFF. We were both holding each side, so the table didn't fall. The leg is heavy. I have a dog, small children, and 92 year old grandmother in the house. If the table had fallen and injured anybody, we would have an entirely different issue.
We screwed the leg back in but it would stay screwed in tight. It still holds the table up, but the leg is unstable. If you try to move or lift the table, the leg will fall off.
March 2017-April 2017 - My mom is uncomfortable with the instability of the table so she calls Homeworld customer service, speaks to Kila, explains the situation, told she will get a call back.
Didn't hear anything for a few days so she calls back. Speaks to Kila, says she will have someone call. No call.
Didn't hear anything, calls back, speaks to Kila, says she will follow up, no call.
This happens 3 times before I physically go into the store to see if there is somebody I can talk to. Turns out Kila doesn't work in the store, I speak with an in-store employee and she looks into my account and says to me "I don't see anything in your history regarding this issue, but let me call her and see what's going on"
She calls, but Kila is out to lunch. She speaks with somebody else who basically tells her that we did not purchase the warranty and to give me two numbers. One for a third party technician and one for an in-house technician.
First of all, I know that it is not under warranty and so did Kila. So why didn't Kila just give me this information? Who have I been waiting for a call back from for nearly three weeks? Secondly, we never asked for or expected any kind of compensation, store credit, or a new table. We simply wanted to know what we would have to do to get this fixed. I'm not paying a technician to come to my house and tell me that I need a new leg.
I asked if the product was still being sold in the store, if it was still on display, and if I could get the name of the manufacturer (order a new leg maybe?). Why I have to do her job is beyond me. She prints out the info and asks an associate to show me where the table is located. He basically tells me that I could probably just use glue to secure the screw to the leg. True story. A little annoyed that I would have to do this to a new table, but it would probably work.
I told my mom that I will just glue the screw back into the leg and that it should be fine. She is still annoyed that Kila told her that "someone" would reach out to her and nobody has. She calls again. Kila is not there, but she speaks to Kawena. She apologizes and said she will talk to a manager and call back. You guessed it! Nothing yet.
Now i'm just curious as to who was supposed to call us back?! Can I get this persons number so I can call them?! If company policy for products that are no longer under warranty is to just give me the information for a technician, why wasn't that information passed on during the initial conversation? We probably would've have just called and had the leg "fixed" for $100 without question. We sat around for weeks like idiots.
Everyone we spoke to seemed perfectly pleasant. They were just inefficient or very unapologetically dismissive of our situation. I know they don't have much competition in Hawaii but it is ridiculous to continually tell a customer that you will call them back and not follow up.
What have I learned? Use gorilla glue to fix everything. read more
