Looked fairly bush with the outdoor seating do I figured why not... looks are deceiving to say the least. Delivery was fast, Pizza was hot. Love the crust snd the crunch it provided. One star. This place feels overly pretentious, and the service can come off as quite rude. While the pizza itself is good, it's simply not worth the attitude. There are plenty of other pizza spots that offer better food and a much more welcoming experience. read more

We stopped in on a whim while out shopping, and I'm so glad we did! The ambiance was fantastic--fun, lively, and full of energy. As if we were back in the 80's. They played upbeat old-school music that really set the vibe. We sat at the bar, where the service was top-notch, and we even got a bit of a show from watching the staff in action! Everything we ordered was fresh, and you could truly taste the quality. We had the pepperoni pizza, and it was absolutely amazing--I even enjoyed it the next morning! The only thing I wish they had was a bigger selection of adult beverages, but overall, this spot was a great find. I'd definitely come back! read more

When you walk into this pizza parlor, the smell of garlic just absolutely blows you away. We ordered a Caesar salad and a cheese pizza pie. My coworker introduced me to Home Slice pizza and I loved it. A week later, I had to go for myself. There are 2 restaurants, one where you dine in and the other is a to go restaurant with an order windy and patio chairs. I loved the concept and was able to get in and out fast. I ate the pizza so fast I didn't get a picture but will get one the next time. Everyone was friendly and showed me the ropes! I can't wait to go back. read more

This place was insanely good! We saw a ton of people outside when we walked by earlier in the day so decided to venture back for dinner. The smell was soo amazing we were drooling and couldn't wait to have it. It was the best NYC slice I've ever had not in NYC. It actually may even be better than any slice I've had in NYC. read more

-Absolutely amazing pizza dough and sauce, some of the best I've had, maybe even the best I've had. We loved the chopped Italian salad, dressing, pizza, and calzone. We were seated outback on their patio which was so fresh and quiet compared to the inside dining room. The place is neat is neat and the servers were friendly for the most part. I was not very impressed with the pizza itself thought. Ordered a margarita pizza and there just wasn't much to is. The crust was very good though I'll give them that. Next time I would try something else though. We sat outside in the back which was nice cause the weather was perfect for it. Home Slice! How do I love thee. When it's late at night and I don't want a P Terrys, Home Slice always welcomes me in, with its neon pizza man tossing dough, I know I can stop in for 2 slices, ranch and an oversized rice crispy treat. Offering pizza by the slice or whole pies. I'm usually one slice of cheese and one slice of white. Both always hit the spot. I love to dip thr cheese slice in ranch! And their ranch slaps! Service is always quick and friendly. The place is small with a few spots indoors and picnic tables to watch the action going down on south Congress (which is always fun people watching). I've been to home slice a lot since moving to Austin and it never disappoints. Pizza slices are really big and the place is super homey. I like the different options they have especially the special pizzas. However, I wish they had all of them available since it's on the menu but when I went only 2 were. We stopped by this pizza place while shopping around South Congress, and it was a great choice! It's a popular spot, especially people walking around the area. The location is perfect, there are lots of shops nearby, so it's a great place to grab a quick bite during shopping. We went on a weekend and the pizza place is small inside, so it can be crowded, but they also have outdoor seating. We tried a cheese slice and a Mediterranean slice, and both were delicious tasted like New York-style pizza - thin crust. They also have an open kitchen, which was really fun to watch as they made the pizzas fresh right in front of us. It was a hot day, so we sat inside. It got a little crowded, but we were lucky to find seats near the open kitchen. The crowd had a fun vibe, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the food. parking is all luck , they have street parking and if you are lucky you will find street parking nearby on a weekend. Overall, I really loved this place -- tasty pizzas, great atmosphere, and a perfect stop for a quick meal while exploring South Congress! read more

Somehow I lived in Austin for 22 years before finally trying Home Slice, and shame on me. I love the ambience inside, it is old-school Austin, or old-school anywhere, really. Dark lighting, red candles on the table, quiet and calm and lovely. But the star of the show, as good as the pizza was, is that Italian sandwich you might've heard people talking about. I've been in Austin for 8 years and have always done the walk up and order. Finally had a chance to sit inside and dine in with friends from out of town. I love their thin crust pizza. we opted for the supreme. It came out piping hot. The garlic knots and greek salad were perfect to tide us over while we waited. The staff are nice, attentive and come by often, despite how busy it is. We walked in on a saturday afternoon and were told about 25 minutes but were seated like 10 minutes later. Great pizza and sandwiches. One of my favorite items on the menu is the meatball and italian sandwiches, both are stacked with quality ingredients on fresh bread. Full pizzas as well as by the slice, this is more of a bar and restaurant than More Home Slice next door, however menu is the same. Always great service when I am dining at the bar. Decided to stop here during my walk/shopping around South Congress. It was nice day so we decided to eat outside. Love coming here for a slice of pizza and the day we went the crust was better than I remember. I love that their pizza sauce is overly tart like some places. It nicely balance with sweetness and tart. Great customer service, they came outside to yell my name and place my food at my table. This is the small Home Slice next to the actually restaurant so if you just want a quick bite instead of the entire restaurant experience this is the place to go. There are some sitting inside and some outside. They concert their small front parking lot into an outdoor eating area. Just keep in mind there is a single bathroom stall here. So if you need to use the restroom, you might be waiting if they are busy. read more

Believe The HYPE... Home Slice Pizza is the best slice in Austin, the state of Texas, and west of the Mississippi. The slice is as good as Joe's in The Village and Sal n Carmines in UWS, both in NYC. The slice here is an NYC-style slice. Thin crust. Crispy. Lite in touch. I have had more slices of pizza than I want to admit. But, The Slice is one of the simplest forms of food to make. But, the hardest thing to Master. Now, the slice and the pie are two different animals. I love the slice here. It follows pizza protocol. A perfect slice is one that after baking the original pie. You let it cool down to room temperature. Then heated to order. When you place your order. You want a slice that is crispy on the bottom and the border crust. You should hear a crunch n another crunch. Hot, crispy, lite with the proper ratio of cheese n toppings. Now, that is a SLICE. Home Slice does The Slice perfectly. Never had a bad slice. Meatball Parm Hero was delicious. While I have had some pies here. Not as awesome as The Slice. You won't go wrong with a Home Slice pizza pie, but sometimes the middle of the pie is a bit soft. Not the end of the world. Still delicious. Overall, Home Slice is the place to go for pizza. CC and very friendly staff. A small lot for parking; usually for to-go orders. Plenty of seating. Pro Tip: order ur slice crispy. read more

Everything was delicious and served quickly, even with the aforementioned dinner rush. 10/10 would order the same items again. Home Cut Pizza off South Congress is Austin is a New York style pizzeria that might be comparable to the pizza in New York City. Wow, starting with the crust, this was some of the best pizza I've ever had. My Rating as a Whole: 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) The atmosphere at Home Slice Pizza is dim, cozy, and there will be a wait if you come during busy times. In Home Space, there is a section just for taking things out. Although there is outdoor seating in this area, I dined inside the restaurant, which reminded me of a New York City pizza joint. Dark, cramped, with a bar right next to it and professional pizza makers tossing dough in the kitchen. The best part is the background aroma of garlic knots baking. Our server provided excellent service. Despite the fact that downtown Austin is a haven for hipsters, I was dining with my kids and felt very at ease. He checked on us numerous times, was attentive, and overall was excellent. 1 Star. Food: As soon as you step inside, the incredible aromas of baking garlic knots will have you spellbound. There are four knots included in one order, but they can be added via cart. I like to dip the hot, soft garlic knots in the marinara sauce after peeling them. I additionally requested the caprese. Not great, but not terrible. Be that as it may, I was hanging around for pizza. Let me also say that the crust is a must. I ordered an olive oil-based white pizza with pepperoni and spinach on one side. The real star of this dish is the crust. It held up well and was crispy. It wasn't necessary for me to do the NY fold when I took a bite of my pizza. A bonus is that popular pizzas can be ordered by the slice (such as the cheese pizza). Perhaps the best New York City style pizza in Texas. 2 Stars. Will I Come Back? - Yes. Every time I visit Austin, I think I will go to Home Slice. That much is good. Very good NY style pizza. Probably the best version I have found here in Austin. The sicilian style pizza they occasionally have on offer is sometimes good and sometimes not so much. The last time I ordered a slice of it I got something dried out that had zero cheese on it. That wasn't so fun. I ordered a whole sicilian to go once and got a long speech on why I couldn't have it half cheese half pepperoni and also why they could not add any extra cheese to the pie under any circumstanmces. It was very long winded but the upshot was that it's just so good and they refined their recipe over time so they know absolutely nothing needs to be added. And that's why I couldn't get extra cheese to ensure I didn't end up with another dry cheeseless slice. I wanted to skip the order entirely after that lengthy pompous exchange (which honestly made me think they must get it frozen and that's why they can't change it) but there were other people counting on the food that night so I just let it go. Luckily the cheese pizza that came was actually quite tasty and had actual cheese on it so I was less annoyed after eating something. Sadly, 2 weeks later when we ordered a pepperoni sicilian it was again barely cheesed and was not particularly tasty. So it seems like maybe the rest of the staff could use a refresher course on the perfect recipe I was lectured on as they don't seem to be very consistent with the quality. I;m going back to regular slices since they seem pretty clear on how to consistently make those well. Salads there are also good. If you want a calzone call ahead - unlike a real NY pizzeria this place will make you wait 20-30 minutes for one of these treats, which may be worth it but who wants to sit foodless while the rest of your party enjoys ready made slices? read more

As someone new to Austin, I was excited to try out the city's culinary offerings, and I stumbled upon Home Slice Pizza. I was immediately drawn to the fresh aroma of pizza wafting from the restaurant, and the old-fashioned exterior only added to the charm. Upon entering, I found the interior to be on the small side and quite noisy, but my group was quickly seated and attended to by our friendly and attentive waiter, Roy. We ordered the margarita and pepperoni and sausage pizzas, both of which were good but didn't quite blow us away. While the pizzas were hearty, they didn't have that "wow" factor that we were hoping for. The inside of the restaurant was tastefully decorated with wine bottles adorning the walls and artwork that added to the lively and welcoming atmosphere. Initially, the strong scent of pizza was overwhelming, and it took some time to adjust to, but the overall experience was pleasant. The only standout dish was the ranch dressing, which was surprisingly delightful when paired with the pizza. I don't typically dip my pizza in ranch, but I had a feeling about this one, and I was not disappointed. Overall, I rate Home Slice Pizza a 4.5 out of 5. While the decor could use some refreshing, everything else was fantastic. The sauce is good, toppings are right on and gourmey-ish, and somehow manage to serve non-greasy pepperoni pizza (i did not know it existed). Servers are always friendly, but really small interior, cool but fly infested patio/outdoor seating in the rear. Now drawbacks, -minus .70 stars b/c no jalapenos served...wtf? ok i understand you are trying to be brooklyn/williamsburg type of place, but we are in Texas. Mushrooms, pepperoni, jalapenos are the staple of good pizza for my taste.... I put jalapenos on just about everything, and pizza without jalapenos is like tacos without hot sauce... still good, but not quite as good. they do offer sliced peppers... but just not the same... Minus .05 stars, if home slice used a wood fired oven/charcoal oven, how much better would it taste? Not quite sure, thus the minimal deduction. Once upon a time, I bought a slice of sausage garlic pizza to-go from More Home Slice. I took a bite, fell in love, and accidentally dropped it on the floor. My mama always told me "don't cry over dropped pizza," so I picked it off the ground and continued to eat. That may sound gross, but it still tasted heavenly and I didn't die. I lived to tell the tale and eat another slice. I visited the full-service Home Slice this week. I got another sausage garlic and also the #4: spinach, roasted red peppers, green olives, and onions. If you are a garlic freak like me, you will love the sausage garlic. It's so much more savory than your typical sausage pizza and is definitely worth eating off the floor (although you should keep it on your plate or in your belly if at all possible). I didn't think I would enjoy the #4 because I'm a meat lover, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was super flavorful and the spinach wasn't burnt or soggy. It tasted like they sauteed some of the veggies before putting it on the pizza. If you're going to eat a veggie pizza, eat this one. The outdoor seating area is great for larger groups. Literally the best pizza I have ever had! When my husband and I were thinking of moving here we went to Home Slice when we came to visit and we have fond memories from that time. We have continued to go after having lived here for 6 years. There are so many amazing restaurants in Austin we typically don't go to restaurants more than once. Especially restaurants on Congress Street which is notorious for being overcrowded with tourists. So us braving the traffic and tourists all while in the midst of the downtown mania shows you how much we love this pizza. The crust is crispy and is cooked in a real pizza oven. The cheese is high quality you can tell, it tastes fresh and amazing. The cheese they top it with is just the right mix of cheeses. It's just salty enough and the sauce isn't too sweet and it's just the right amount of it. I normally get a cheese pizza with garlic on top. The garlic is chopped to just the right size where it blends seamlessly with the texture of the pizza and doesn't overpower it. The atmosphere there is amazing! The lights are dimmed and its a very romantic atmosphere, great for date night. The outside has a fence completely made of old doors and lots of cute Austin-y decor. This restaurant is one all other restaurants can take some tips from. I enjoy pizza probably way more than I should and from the moment we walked in the hostess was extremely personable and gave us her perspective in regards to what was great in her eyes. There was a 30 minute wait but it was late on a Saturday, regardless the bar and waiting area in the back was quite spacious. The bartender in the back was equally as knowledgeable with IPAs and pizza. Again very friendly and exactly how I expect to be treated, the wait ended up being only around 15 minutes. The pizza was fantastic the server was good, friendly, but not fantastic, it took a while for him to come back but nothing that ruined the evening. My entire time there from a service and food perspective was great and easily deserving of a 5 out of 5 stars. I would come back here every time I went to Austin if pizza wasn't so deliciously unhealthy... but regardless if you at like pizza check out Homeslice Pizza! read more

By far the best pizza in Austin! I DID grow up in NYC and this is truly NY Pizza. I know that they take their employees to NYC to taste pizza so they know what they're going for and it comes through in the quality of the crust, the cheese and sauce. It's all just right, too often here in TX pizza's are just overloaded with cheese and the crust is soggy-never the case with HS. The only downside is the waits are long- I called for a pie on Saturday night and they said it would be 2 and half hours! It's impossible to eat in most nights but lunch time is nice. I haven't been since the recent expansion so this may have improved. Take it from someone who spent 30 years arguing St Marks vs Ray's Famous VS Famous Rays...Home Slice is better than all of them, hands down. I would recommended the #6 with Ricotta and Sausage or the classic mushrooms and peperoni- you can't go wrong here, just be prepared to wait. Oh and the ceasar dressing has anchovies..mmmm read more

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the comforting aroma of freshly baked dough and the warmest welcome from the staff. The menu has an impressive range of pizzas, with something to suit every taste. I ordered the Pepperoni and a specialty pizza topped with truffle oil and wild mushrooms, and both were out of this world. I got lucky and a take out spot (15 minute max) was open. I love that they offer pizza by the slice or a whole pie! Got a take out order of two slices to go. I got a slice Pepperoni and mushroom and margherita. In crust we trust! The margherita pizza was TO DIE FOR. So so so so bomb! I highly recommend! Home Slice is definitely a great Austin staple. As everyone says, there is usually a long wait line, but I think the wait is worth it. The pizza is always divine-- my favorite is pepperoni and mushroom, especially since it's also topped with fresh basil. The drinks and salads are also good. I have to rave about the service here. The staff is fantastic -- really friendly and personal! I haven't heard of a clam pizza from other pizza places. I haven't heard of crusty dough and the greasiness of a fine New York thin-crust pie down in the south. And I definitely haven't heard of such lines for pizza. Yet something about Home Slice makes it distinctly spectacular. You can get almost anything on your pizza, and they'll make it perfectly. The only complaint I have is that the clam pizza sometimes had pieces of shell in it, but it's clams, so obviously that's a possibility. I haven't been here a lot, but do know that getting a take-out order will greatly benefit you - the lines here can be around an hour. Take the pizza and then go out to a park or someplace else. This establishment was started as a small place, and now they get so many customers that you'll never find a place to sit. read more

Poor Service -Extremely Disappointed!!! We were in Austin for the first time and were told this was a great place to grab some pizza. We checked in with hostess who said it would be 30-45 min wait. We decided to wait patiently although we had 3 children that were HUNGRY!!! After waiting an hour we asked hostess how much longer. They proceeded to tell us it would be another 45 mins. When we questioned them on the extended time, they tried to act like we were wrong and that our wait time had always been 85 mins. (Even though this was a new hostess from the one that originally checked us in) So if you are interested in waiting hours on a slice of pizza, maybe you will enjoy. But not me. Never again! To be honest the reviews that they have are very fake I went to get some of their subs and the waiter told me that the chicken Parmesan is a good choice I told him I want to add some spinach and tomatoes and onions and all the sudden they told me 15$ for wat??????? Ohh yeah we charge 1.50 for each vegetable whaaatttt ok and the sub came to be all tomato sauce that they put on the pizza with 2 pieces of chicken raw chicken with some cheese and I can barely taste the veggies that I added. What the hell is this place people are crazy about it for what my fiend told me that she had a bad experience but I said we'll let me give a chance highly don't recommend and never be back I threw 15$ in the trash becuz I couldn't even eat it read more

There sure are a lot of great reviews for this place, and I couldn't agree with them all more!! I loved how large their pizza slices were, and the cheese pizza was simple yet delicious. The long lines and lack of sitting areas available sure does stink, but with how great the pizza is, I don't mind! The crust is thin, and the pizza is thin, but it reminds me of my home New York style pizza, and it's hard to find good New York style pizza in Texas! If you happen to be on Congress and are looking for something easy and quick to eat, I would definitely recommend going here! I know there are a lot of places that offer pizza around Austin, but the history and taste of Home Slice Pizza is different and worth going to for me! read more

Being a Brooklyn Transplant, I thought I would never have another piece of pizza till I went back home to visit!! And that was true, until I stepped foot into Home Slice and sank my teeth into that old familiar crunchy thin crusted...perfectly seasoned sauce... slice of pie!! OhMyGod .. I thought I died and went to Brooklyn if not Long Island... There isn't one thing on the menu that doesn't remind me of home.. One of the best popular pizzas in the city. The place was awesome and very chill to dine in for pizza. It was a comfortably great experience and this place gets so busy sometimes but always served a very delicious and good quality of the pizza. They also have a bar that served awesome drinks with a great punch of taste. Perfect pair with their pizza. The bartender was great, friendly, and helpful. Good selection of local craft beer and pizza. They have the best NY pizza I've had tasted and my wife actually likes the pizza there too. Ingredients were top-notch and well-created pizza. I know that at some level good pizza is good pizza and then it comes down to personal taste but I think Home Slice has the best pizza I've ever had. The quality of their ingredients is excellent. The margherita is amazing but if you really want your mind blown visit the restaurant on a Monday or Thursday and order the off menu Sicilian pizza. It will change your life. Another off menu item is the Vatican - an Italian sub wrapped in a meat calzone. I haven't tried it but it looks insane. If you want a table at nearly any time besides right around opening you're gonna wait a while but it's worth it and there's an area out back with a bar where you can hang out while you wait. read more
