After enjoying a morning tour at the Met we took a 5 min walk to Home Kitchen. You can dine curbside or downstairs in their main dining room. Since it was Sunday their brunch menu was being served (we were there at 2pm). Their were many options to choose from and not knowing what I really wanted I went with the Brunch Platter for 2 ($36). I'm glad I did because everything on the tray was wonderful. Bacon and sausage were spectacular, eggs were fluffy, and the avocado was fresh. Their coffee was nice and strong being served table side in a French Press (3 cups). Service was friendly and all were working to help every tables. When I first found this restaurant, I was really excited. I will say they make the absolute best chicken pot pie I have ever had. One of the people with me had grilled cheese with short ribs and said it was fabulous. The prime ribs came out cold and the mashed potatoes were cold as well. Very small restaurant very limited staff. They say they deliver but it is a very big ordeal to get something delivered. Once I called and the man that answered the phone forgot to turn on his hearing aid! Next time someone told me they didn't know if they delivered to where I live.They do! They don't seem to have regular delivery people. Once the dishwasher came. Once the owner came. And today I got the person that had answered the phone. He seemed to have trouble understanding my credit card number. He told me he was a lawyer, but that he was stupid. Really much more than I wanted to know. I asked when my delivery came to have my credit card receipt with it. It did not! I had to call the restaurant and someone texted me a picture of it. The prices have been raised recently. This place is so cute. I went with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day and it was convenient because it was so close to the Met. I made a reservation about two weeks prior, and when I walked in, they already had my table waiting for me. The staff are very welcoming, holding the door for you as you enter and exit, and on top of that, the food is so so good. We got Mac and cheese balls as an appetizer, and they were to die for. I got the cheese ravioli entree, and it was very good. The dessert special, which was chocolate lava cake, was exceptionally well made. A crunchy-ish outer layer and a decadent and soft inner layer. Food was 7/10 service was 4/10. Chicken pot pie had a buttery flaky crust & a nice chewy center that's crispy at first and melts right in your mouth... which is exactly how I like it. There was an equal ratio of vegetables to chicken.. I would've preferred the base sauce to be a little thicker, but it was fine nonetheless. It was filling enough for one person. The second time server approached us he asked if we wanted dessert & very clearly said no, just the check please & then came back with the dessert menu... third time he came back he said so no dessert? And we said no just the check please. He passed by our table probably a dozen times (mind you there were only three tables with 2-3 occupants at each table - it was a late Sunday evening not very busy) & not once took our check... had to ask another staff member to grab our check & even that staff member passed off the task to him... could've very easily helped him if his coworker was busy. Time management was suboptimal. Will give benefit of the doubt considering could've been a long day. Might be a great place for others, but not looking to come back because food was okay and service was below average. Don't like to completely trash restaurants based on my experience, but it could be a nice place to catch up with friends or have a small family birthday dinner. I'm giving this place three stars because my initial experience was kind of mediocre but I think that was partially due to ordering poorly. This is a super cute little spot with a lot of potential. The muscles were the highlight for me, they came with a delicious red sauce that I could've drank all of it with a straw. The kale Cesar that I had was slightly underwhelming, not super crunchy and just was eh. The steak special that evening I believe was a skirt steak and it was fine, slightly under seasoned, but the price was way too high for the portion of meat and the quality. I came here a Sunday evening with my girlfriend for dinner and got seated immediately. The vibe was very calm, there were some older folks and families there. We ordered the pot pie, eggplant parm and Mac and cheese balls. The pot pie was warm and delicious, filled with yummy veggies, thick broth and juicy chicken. The space is clean and looks fairly upscale, the food was delicious, and really reminded me of a proper, home cooked meal. It made me miss home! We came to the city with a tour group, and our server was even kind enough to ask about our travel schedule to make sure our food would be out in time so we'd make it back to our bus! Where do I even begin! On Saturday I went to Home Kitchen for the first time with 4 people. It was a cozy restaurant and the atmosphere was great. We decided to sit at the bar where Dennis the bartender took care of us. He knew the menu inside and out, recommended tasty dishes and absolutely killed it with his Spicy Margarita. To start we got the Arancini balls, Burrata salad and the white bean bruschetta. OMG! Absolutely delicious. The bruschetta was bursting with fresh flavor and the arancini balls weren't greasy which is always a bonus. For dinner we got the Orecchiete with broccoli rabe and sausage, the Short Ribs and Home Kitchen Salad. Each dish was better than the next. The pasta dish was perfect and wasn't drowning in oil, and the short ribs blew me away! It's hard to find good short ribs, and these were probably the best I've had. The Home Kitchen salad was so fresh with string beans, tomato's, red onion and bacon and topped with butterflied shrimp. It was perfect. I do wish there were a few more shrimp, but I'm sure if I asked they would have no problem! To finish, Dennis made THE MOST AMAZING Espresso Martini I've ever had in my life.
