My family and I had just finished at the Met and were looking for a late lunch/early dinner before heading home. One of my brothers had suggested Home Kitchen - since it was close by with an inoffensive menu and good reviews, we decided to give it a try. That being said, we took the short walk over from the Met to check it out. Home Kitchen has an almost unassuming exterior besides the outdoor seating it pretty much blends into its surroundings (not a bad thing). Walking in, the size and setup is typical of a neighborhood Manhattan spot. It's not a large space, but is decently-sized with a bar immediately to your left and tables scattered throughout. The decor is fine, nothing too noteworthy but they have several NYC-esque pictures on the walls which I thought were a nice touch. HK offers brunch on Saturdays and Sundays in addition to their all-day menu. We were there during the changeover from brunch to dinner service, so we ordered from the latter menu. The selections were mostly American dishes - some apps, mains, pastas, salads, and sides. I wasn't in the mood for anything too outrageous so I decided to get their burger. This was relatively simple, cooked to my liking and topped with lettuce, tomato, and my choice of cheese (I chose Swiss). The burger was good - tasty and I appreciated the thickness of the patty. The burger came with fries which were fries. Service was great - everyone was super friendly and made us feel very welcome; I would honestly say that's the most noteworthy thing about my experience. Overall, while I wouldn't consider Home Kitchen a destination spot by any means, it's a solid neighborhood eatery and an inoffensive option if you're hungry after visiting the Met. read more

They were lovely with preferences and substitutions, which was so appreciated, and even split the salad for us. My wife and I stopped in here after a long day of walking around the Met. It was only a few blocks away so it was pretty convenient. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. We shared the fried cauliflower bites which were tasty, but I didn't really like the sauce. We had the spaghetti and the cheese ravioli, and both were good. The pastry was great, but the veggies were undercooked and there were no chunks of chicken, just shreds of it, which included hard pieces of cartilage. After eating about half of it, I had to stop. After enjoying a morning tour at the Met we took a 5 min walk to Home Kitchen. You can dine curbside or downstairs in their main dining room. Since it was Sunday their brunch menu was being served (we were there at 2pm). Their were many options to choose from and not knowing what I really wanted I went with the Brunch Platter for 2 ($36). I'm glad I did because everything on the tray was wonderful. Bacon and sausage were spectacular, eggs were fluffy, and the avocado was fresh. Their coffee was nice and strong being served table side in a French Press (3 cups). Service was friendly and all were working to help every tables.
