I went to this Italian spot with a couple of Mediterranean twists pretty recently with a decently sized group. The place inside was pretty quiet, as there weren't that many diners, and the server we had was friendly and professional. The prices are on the higher end, but it's an Italian spot on the Upper East Side, and they serve seafood primarily, so it's to be expected. To drink, I had a decent negroni from the cocktail menu. It was $20 and was called Unico, named after the amaro of the same name. I don't remember the other details of the ingredients, with the drink having bitter orange flavor along with a bit of sweetness and some light licoricey notes. In short, it was alright. They gave us some warm, decent bread with pretty good olive oil to begin with. I was in the mood entirely for seafood, so I started with a crudo. Before ordering, while someone else got a glass of wine, I asked what the daily crudo special was. Apparently, it was tuna, presumably sliced from his description, and served with plums, scallion, and olive oil for $24. Instead, I went with the standard Tuna from the menu for the same price, which was cut tartare style and served with stracciatella, pistachio, lime, and parsley oil. The tuna was plentiful, and the meaty tuna worked well with the relatively rich cheese. The pistachios added some crunch, while the lime helped reduce the richness, though I do wish there was a bit more. Others enjoyed the burrata duo, watermelon salad, or arugula salad, though the burrata looked a bit overpriced at $30. My main dish was the $37 Swordfish alla Mediterranea, consisting of grilled swordfish steak served over tomato and Taggiasche olive sauce, along with some toasted pine nuts. It was a relatively large portion of swordfish, and it was cooked beautifully, being tender and meaty. I liked the sauce as well as the crunch from the pine nuts, and the occasional sour bite from either the cooked-down tomatoes or olives. My only complaint would probably be that there wasn't enough sauce on the bottom, but the fish was good enough that it was almost unneeded. Others enjoyed the rigatoni sausage & peppers, the linguine clams, or the halibut. I didn't try any of them, but apparently, the pasta was delicious, though the portion size was definitely on the smaller end, with most pasta dishes ranging from $25-$30. Having already spent a good chunk of change on the appetizer and entree, I didn't bother having dessert. Someone enjoyed the Cannoli for $12, which came with three miniature ones, making the price more reasonable. Three others got an order of the $15 Double Chocolate Mousse, which they all seemed to enjoy. This was a tasty meal. Going to bump up my rating a bit as it's new, but would still get a bit over a 4 if this wasn't the case. Would recommend if you are in the area and looking for fancier fish. read more

We've visited Adria as a couple and with family members several times. Yesterday, my wife and I brought our 18 month old for an early Mother's Day dinner. Dining with a high energy toddler is by no means a simple feat. That said, Luciano and his team did a wonderful job. They were able to accommodate every ask, were incredibly friendly towards our little one, and killed it on the cocktails and food. Some of you might not wish to be around children while out for dinner. Sorry, as parents, we're doing our best! Like many of you reading, I'd prefer to not have dinner at 4:30pm, but the service and quality of food made up for our early reservation. 5/5, as it's been every time we've visited Adria. read more

What an absolute gem of a restaurant, I'm so happy we came across Adria, it was one of my favorite meals we had in the city. The ambiance, service, experience, and food all coupled together to make a really nice time! We didn't have a reservation but luckily (and shockingly) there was plenty of room. We opted to sit outside on the patio as it was a lovely evening, and the inside was a little on the fancier/nicer side for our vibe and how we were dressed that night. Three of us ordered a bunch of stuff to share. We told our server what we were getting and he offered to bring the meal out as courses, which made it a really nice elongated dining experience, great since we were catching up and chatting a lot. The meal started out with bread, it came with 3 different kinds, and while all were good, the focaccia was fantastic. We ended up asking for more of that to enjoy with the meal. Next up was the Grilled Octopus, it was cooked slightly past its prime, but the flavor was great, as were the potatoes it was served with. Our next course was pasta, we got the Truffle mushroom fettuccine and Ziti Alla Genovese. The truffle wasn't too overpowering, and there were plenty of mushrooms so this dish was a big hit. The Ziti Alla Genovese though, that was perfection. I loved this dish so much, it was one of my favorite things I had in the city. Our final course was Orata Acqua Pazza, a pan seared filet with clams. The cook on the fish was perfect, the skin nice and crispy, and the fish delicate and flaky. Weeks after eating it my boyfriend and I were still talking about it. They had a good wine list, lots of Italian and some French options as well. What a gem! Came in on a Sunday night for a casual dinner and had a lovely experience. For starters, we had the octopus which was very good. The purée under it was tasty, and the seasonings were good as well. The octopus itself was a little bit overcooked and rubbery, but by no means inedible and was still very enjoyable. For my main, I had the Orata and really enjoyed it. Someone told me that this was their favorite fish in the city and while it might not be my favorite, it was definitely very good and I would suggest ordering. Service was good. Nothing to write home about, but our waitress was attentive and although not overly friendly, provided great service. The host/manager who seated us was very friendly and as we were waiting for our Uber he came over to us to check in and make sure we enjoyed everything which was very appreciated and one of those small things that makes a difference. Ambience is great as well very casual, but still classy. The kind of place where you could take your parents, a date or a dinner with friends. Overall, very happy to have Adria in the neighborhood and will definitely be coming back as there are a bunch of things on the menu. I want to try. read more

This restaurant was a upper East Side surprise. The food was good, the service was on point and the place was quaint, quiet and comfortable. It was almost empty on a Sunday Brunch time but no line was a plus for us. I tend to avoid trendy places cause I hate to wait. There were 5 of us and we had a lovely lunch. The appetizers were large and well prepared. a couple of us had the $30 lunch special which came with appetizer and main. It was an excellent deal. I thought it would be smaller portions but was regular size. All of us had various pastas and they were excellent. I will put this place on my list as a place to go. read more

What a Fantastic experience!! On a last minute decision, I decided to stop in here for dinner and was truly blown away at the service food and atmosphere! With some of the best service I've ever had, every recommendation was spot on & the food was fantastic from start to finish. It was all so fresh and flavorful! Even the bread to start with olive oil was so good I almost ate a whole loaf of bread! The cheesecake was homemade and you could tell with the fresh blood orange on top, and thigh usually not a fan of chocolate mousse, this one definitely had me coming back for more! As we walked past Adria, we paused, read the menu, and decided to dine there on an impromptu choice. And I'm so happy we did. Exceptional service, delicious food, and a charming, sophisticated ambiance. Our meal began with fresh bread and olive oil. The bread was lightly salted, and honestly, I could come here just for that. We started with the grilled octopus, which was phenomenal. The potato cream accompaniment truly made the dish stand out. This is a nice dinner option after a night at the Met (it's within walking distance if you're up for a 15 minute stroll). The restaurant is well appointed and feels chic but not too formal (they're going for "casual fine dining") And the food does not disappoint. My family and I just had dinner here and it was perfect. The restaurant staff were polite and attentive. We had a 1yr old and 3yr old but our dinner went so smoothly because the restaurant was accommodating to our requests. The food was perfectly cooked. We got the calamari, grilled shrimp, ravioli, and halibut. Every single dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. They also cooked our toddler regular butter pasta on the side and it was delicious. My husband and I commented that we would order the dish ourselves. The sauces that came with each dish balanced the meal so well. The restaurant was spacious and well lights. A number of Italian restaurants have popped up in the area in the last year or so. L'Incontro, Amarena and now Adria. We have tried them all and had the same lack luster experience at each. Adria is painfully mediocre, from the decor to the food. Our server was very nice, but that was about it. I just took a look at the reviews for the aforementioned spots. Mostly 4.8 stars which leads me to question the authenticity of the reviews. That, or people are just used to settling for less at this point. Pasta should really not be that hard. read more

My friend and I came to Adria with high expectations and were severely disappointed. The waiter was absolutely horrendous. He started the meal by judging us for not ordering any drinks (claiming we should because it is a Saturday night). We asked for a suggestion between two pastas and he did not provide any help. He didn't bring our appetizer and then when we asked about it he claimed we didn't order it. We also realized that instead of the lobster Paccheri he brought us the paccheri pomodoro (unsure of what we were charged for). The dishes are neither over-salted nor over-buttered - a common mistake that we are critical of at many restaurants.
