60 Explosive Chili Pepper Chicken. Too spicy, not edible
    Joyce T.

I visited and enjoyed Home Eat branches in Cupertino and Sunnyvale, I was excited to see their counter at the Milpitas Great Mall food court. Who knows, this was my worst experience. I had Chili Fried Chicken, which was overly spicy with absolutely no other flavor, give up after one bite. Shrimp Pork Wontons were also bad with very thick, doughy skins and a tasteless filling. Their monthly promo drinks item were either too sweet, or too watery, it was pre-mixed and no way to adjust sugar or ice level. Won't be back.

They offer delivery at several locations and are available on DoorDash!

Our friend said this is her family's favorite place to order for parties, I didn't know what everyone would like, so I said, surprise us! She ordered the Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken Wings, Combination Chow Mein, Special Pork Bone and Tianjin Eggplant for us to share family-style. All of their dishes are made fresh to order and I could taste the love they put into them! 5/5 stars! Thank you to our friend Daisy T for getting DoorDash from their Milpitas location and welcoming us into your home! They have several locations that I would love to check out, especially the inside! SYOY! :-)

Full scale restaurant in the mall. Pleasantly surprised that they have so much to offer. Ended up getting beef chow fun, hot and spicy noodles soup, the shredded potato salad and the beef and tripe. I really liked the food but my spice tolerance level is not there. Everything was too spicy for my tolerance level. I loved loved the shredded potato salad but could only have so much. The hot and spicy noodles were filling but had to split it over a couple of meals as it was too spicy. Also tried their beef wrapped rolls. It was nice but I would prefer to have a bit more hoisin sauce in there. Overall, will need to come back and try different things on their menu and love their concept of having a full scale restaurant in the mall and don't' have to worry about the tipping policy.

Ordered 3 items that were all not good. Shrimp pork won ton soup was boiling hot, and the won ton dumplings were all dough and little meat. The chili pepper chicken 辣子鸡 were way too spicy! They didn't even taste salty, just bitter from the chili pepper. It was so spicy we had to get a beverage-- which their strawberry juice was bad as well. Too sweet and very artificial flavoring. Maybe it's just because this branch is inside the mall but overall will not recommend.

I got the side of pig ear. I forgot the other dish I got. Flavor was good! I wish the pig ear was crunchier.

Consistent taste and good pricing very fast service and good selections ! Better than pandas express ! Continue support !

    Their appetizers are sooo good!

They increased the price on bento. Two items for $15 and they weren't even good! Portion's small and not worth it. The female staff was nice enough to add a boba milk tea at my request for only $1.75 (prob. because I speak their language.) But the boba drink was terrible! Watered down, tasteless and with tons of ice. Tapioca pearls were hard and not pleasant to eat. Not liking home eat and switching to other alternatives in food court.

I was surprised/happy to see home eat at the great mall. They have a pretty formidable presence in the Bay Area with several restaurants already. They are in the food court section in the great mall and occupy the space of almost 2-3 regular sized stalls. They offer cold and hot dishes, the hot dishes are similar to Panda Express style. On top of that they also have their regular menu offerings including all the specials they offer on a weekly/monthly basis at their other restaurants. I got the special for the week- salt and pepper fried fish. It was an instant gratification for some cravings after my long walk through the mall. It was delish but undeniably greasy. I ended up with a tummy ache after I devoured 5 of the fish pieces. Anyway, fish itself was soft and well cooked, outside was crispy. No weird fishy smell and the fish was tossed in some aromatics.

    Fried rice + 2 entrees

Home Eat is located at the food court in Great Mall and offers both fast food takeout and more restaurant like to go options. For their entree boxes, think of Panda Express but higher quality. You can order a base of fried rice or chow mein and then add entrees. They don't skimp on the portions here and pile it on really high. The entree box was just standard to us. The fried rice was on the blander side but I didn't have high expectations given its fast food style. The broccoli beef had more broccoli than beef so I was missing some of that protein but tasted pretty standard. The mapo tofu on the other hand was pretty good; it carried a spicy sichuan flavor profile that I wasn't expecting so it had a good kick. The portion for the price is a steal though and you can also add a soft drink to it. What I really liked was ordering from their kiosk where things are made to order. If you have time to wait the food comes out fresh. We ordered some salt and pepper wings and they did not disappoint. They were piping hot, crispy, juicy and tender, and had great flavor. Portion size was large, too. Would definitely come back for the wings and to try more things from their menu. Overall, lots of options to choose from whether you're in a hurry or can wait!

    Combo plate, $11.99 6-piece chicken wings, $7.99

IMHO We had 90 minutes to kill before our "Wicked: For Good" movie time, so we headed to the Great Mall Food Court. My daughter found Home Eat, and after being offered a sample of their orange chicken, (yummy!), we decided to share a combo plate of fried rice, orange chicken, and green beans w/chicken, $11.99. We added a 6-piece side of chicken wings, $7.99, and one bottled water, $1.99, for a total of $24.02. The food was hot and delicious. We even had leftovers! Yeah, if I'm ever back in the Great Mall Food Court again, I'd hit up Home Eat again.

    80 Beef Chow Fun

Does the job. Probably one of the better options at the Great Mall Food Court! It's pretty greasy compared to the other locations in the Bay Area though. I wasn't crazy about the Beef Chow Fun :( but the Tianjin Eggplant was DELICIOUS!!! These items don't come with rice, so be sure to order some on the side! The Tidu Beef Pot is also great and flavorful, but has lots of peppercorns!

Authentic delicious Chinese homeland foods. Seriously, this place deserves recognition as the staff employees are always helpful and you can feel good management operations. It is busy as heck during lunch hours on most days, especially with many takeout orders queued up on the screen. Excellent chefs. Good ambiance for takeout or dine-in environment for great foods in a popular area of the Great Mall. Every dish I had has been excellent in taste so far and I'm loving it very much. It's really authentic in flavors and there's always great deals posted daily/monthly/seasonally. Very satisfied. Tried the cold dishes section of menu and it definitely impressed me. Good cold meat selections too! Boba milk tea $5.25. Seaweed salad $6.99. Spicy steamed chicken $6.99. Numbing spicy beef & beef tripe (my absolute favorite) $6.99. Ginger onion steamed chicken $6.99. I tried them all and they were excellent in quality and value. Note, if you order a la carte from the front counter, you can get two cold items for $6.99 (current promotional over the counter price). They are worth tipping here. Foods are great for my tastebuds and I always come hungry while leaving with satisfaction. Definitely try their cold dishes. One order portion is good enough for 1-2 people. You can order 3-4 dishes to share. Decent foods with good prices. I'll keep revisiting for sure.

While shopping I was starving so I made a pit stop here to get wings. I think I paid like $13 for about a dozen wings. They were super flavorful, moist, and perfectly cooked. Filled me and and left me satisfied. No regrets whatsoever. This location in in the food court and has pre-made quick stuff and made to order items. There is just so many different options and items on the menu. They even cater here as well. If you are craving Chinese food at an affordable spot then this is it.

I used my own eyes and saw the vibe and then went in without checking anything on the internet. And I was very happy that I did. This is a very CHINESE place. I have heard of such hotpot places in China. They cater to the customers very well. The bathroom has toothbrush and toothpaste and other stuff to get you cleaned up after eating hot pot. There are endless appetizers and Chinese desserts, as well as snacks for you to load up (all free!), and there are lots of sauces and whatnot for you before you even order. All self-served. The hot pot broth is very tasty, and you can then order items to put in the hotpot. For those of us who cannot decide, they have combo mushrooms platter so you don't have to choose, and beef offals mixed platter so you get a little bit of everything. The types of items available for hot pot is distinctively Chongqing stuff, so don't get too turned off if you don't see the usual hot pot stuff. It's not the run of mill kind of place. You get a nice booth and you get to refill the broth whenever you want. My favorite are the nice cold mung bean noodles that you would otherwise pay at least $10 to get as a side dish. It's free and endless. This is all you can eat and free. The second favorite thing that I couldn't get enough of is the different sesame balls they served up, all freshly made and incredibly tasty. My absolute third favorite is the various Chinese desserts that are locally found in Sichuan. Again all free. Onto the items we ordered. I really liked the thinly sliced lamb beef and hand cut beef (thicker), as well as mushrooms, veggies and beef offals. You don't have to decide on one thing, love the combo selections and very reasonable in cost. I also ordered pork blood which my parents liked. The price point is medium to low. Comparing to other hot pot restaurants, it's definitely very inexpensive. So I am surprised that they are making money honestly but that made my parents happy as they like a good deal. My parents really enjoyed the ingredients, the process and the endless appetizers and desserts plus local Chinese snacks that you can load up while eating the hot pot (individually packed quail eggs and tofu snacks). The restaurant chain is from China. So they cater to what the new gen Chinese hot pot goers want. Lots of variety, good price points, and a good beginning to end customer oriented process. A slight interesting observation - they have hair ties up front, in case you need to tie up your hair before getting down in business. I eat everywhere in the world because of my job and demanding travel work schedule. I am usually not impressed by food but this place is definitely top notch. I think I ate at least four variety of sesame balls. Yes they are fried, but they are fresh and delicious. It took an hour to get there, but it's totally worth it. Bonus points, made my parents happy in advance of Chinese New Year.

We came with a group of eight and were able to comfortably share one large table, which made the experience feel really fun and communal. We ordered a big variety of meats, veggies, noodles, and rice for our split pot with a mild Szechuan broth and a tomato broth. As soon as the waiter took our paper order, all the food came out at once, which was super convenient. They placed everything on a small side table next to us so we could cook and eat at our own pace without feeling rushed. There was also a great self-serve sauce bar with lots of sauces, small snacks, and soups, which added a lot to the experience. Overall, the quality of both the meats and vegetables was really good, and everyone left feeling very full and satisfied. The only downsides were the service and the spice level. It was pretty hard to get the waiters' attention if we needed water refills or more soup base, and they didn't check on us after dropping off the food. Also, we ordered the "mild" Szechuan broth, but it was much spicier than expected -- more like a medium. It was also quite oily, so we had to skim some of the oil off the top. Overall though, I'd still recommend it for the food quality and group-friendly hot pot experience.

We didn't expect the Tom Yum broth to have such a strong coconut flavor. I didn't enjoy it. We mostly ate from the green rattan pepper broth, which was very spicy but pretty good! For sides, we got the lettuce, mentaiko fish balls, tofu skin, udon, enoki mushrooms, and Angus eye steak. I wouldn't get the lettuce again, since it gets too soggy in hot pot. I would opt for other vegetables instead. That said, one issue I had was that a fly flew into my sauce while we were eating. There were a couple of other flies flying around, likely because we were seated near the door. Since it was just my sauce, I was able to replace it, so I didn't mind too much but I'd avoid sitting near the door next time and hope they keep it closed. Overall, with so many hot pot places in the Bay Area, I'm not sure if this one will stand out especially with strong competition in Milpitas and San Jose. The quality is good, and the restaurant concept is cool. However its expensive compared to other places! I just hope they invest in better marketing, since we only discovered this place while heading to another restaurant in the same plaza. Their $17 lunch specials are pretty cheap so maybe I'd come back for a lunch special one day.

I was pretty disappointed that there weren't many options to pick from and out of the ones that were on the menu, a lot of them were grayed out. The prices seemed fair initially until the food arrived. The proportions were incredibly little. The angus beef only had 5 slices (though big, you can eat it in one bite). While nothing tasted bad, the value and options made the experience very underwhelming for a whopping $75 for two people. They charge almost $20 for the broth too which I think is unreasonable.
