I love this place. We come here all the time. The staff is friendly. It's not huge and they always seem to be busy but there's never a line. The food quality is very good. Sometimes I grab takeout and sometimes we come in and hang out. I've never had anything bad here in the dozens of times I've been here. The sushi is well-made and pretty, everything is tasty. I'm sure I'll be here in the next week or so again. If you're on the west side, you should definitely give it a try. read more

We have a Japanese restaurant nearby that never fails us. Sushi and Hibachi is mostly always decent, however their pricing continues to go up. Hokkaido popped up on Google maps one day. It's about a 15 minutes drive with good reviews plus their sushi is cheaper. I decided to try them one night for dinner. I placed my order online and paid online. There's no email confirmation nor anything that let me know when the order would be ready. So I left 15 minutes after I placed the order. It was ready at the front counter when I arrived. I ordered a chicken hibachi which came with a salad and fried rice. The usual place included udon noodles along with a soup even if I ordered a salad. So they win there, but the food was on par. My wife ordered the spicy tuna, California, dynamite, and I might have ordered the shrimp tempura roll. All were good. She wasn't a fan of the dynamite roll. They included chop sticks, forks, teriyaki sauce, shrimp sauce and soy sauce in the bag. We were very satisfied with the food. A little further but I think the next visit will be for dine-in. read more

Today's lunch was amazing. Went to lunch with coworkers today and it was mostly an empty house. Staff were very attentive. Coworkers and I ordered Hibachi Lunch Combos. Some of us Chicken and Shrimp, Steak and Shrimp, and I ordered Chicken and Salmon. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced for lunch. And it was a great amount of food (I opted for the 2 rolls + 2 sushi + ginger salad). Ordering over the phone was quick and painless, plus my estimate was only 20 minutes which was great. The restaurant looked small but cute inside, though I didn't stay. The C19 Spicy Salmon Roll was creamy and the perfect amount of heat. The C22 Alaska Roll had a good ratio of ingredients and tasted fresh. The Salmon Sushi was creamy and had a good ratio of fish to rice. The Salad had a great ginger sauce. I ordered the gyoza, shushi lunch special with the dynamite roll and a bowl of pork ramen with pork belly. Gyoza, cooked well and tasted good. The sushi combo came with either super salad. I got the miso soup. Miso soup was great, with green onions and tofu. The sushi itself was great, fresh and tasty. Six pieces of sushi, not too thinly sliced either. 5 pieces of fish and one squid, no Tamargo or shrimp which does not count as sushi in my book. The reason for four stars and not five is because of the ramen. Although all ingredients looked fresh noodles were a good texture, good color broth, it had an old meat smell and the broth tasted slightly of old meat as well. Old meat as in being on the verge of going bad. The pork belly that came in the Ramen tasted good so it wasn't that Perhaps they use a continual pot to make the broth? Whatever the case was it was not edible. Restaurant itself is cozy very clean and well decorated. The staff was very friendly and prompt on service. I do recommend this restaurant however I do not recommend the Ramen pork flavor. Bon appétit. read more

Had dinner at Hokkaido. It was good but the experience was a little weird. The woman who "greeted" us basically led us towards our table and said sit there, while tossing the menus at the table. There was a setting for two and she didn't bother to add an additional for our group of three. She then asked in a gruff voice what we wanted to drink. We all ordered hibachi style- but they do not cook in front of you here. It is all table service. I ordered the steak and shrimp, not the filet and shrimp. I also ordered a vegetable tempura appetizer. My husband ordered the filet and our daughter ordered the vegetable plate. The appetizer was good. It consisted of two pieces of broccoli, two mushrooms, two onion rings, and two sweet potatoes- all tempura style. My dinner included vegetables( onions, squash, zucchini) and "fried" rice which was basically white rice with some sauce on it. There were no eggs, or carrots or vegetables in the "fried" rice. My steak and shrimp were both very good though. My husband's enjoyed his filet and had the same rice and veg with his. Our daughter had a large plate of veggies which were the onions and squash but she is a vegetarian and she really liked it. Plenty of food for her. The inside of the small restaurant is pretty cool and the gentleman who did most of the waiting on us was very nice. I will say that I noticed after we left that they charged me for a fillet and shrimp. I'm not sure if that's what I got. I didn't go back and question it, but just saying I ordered the steak and shrimp. Anyway- we would probably skip this if we were passing back through. P.S. No military discount here read more

Regret going here! I was leaving the package store and this place caught my eye... I decided to get a menu people were coming left to right. I ordered the bento plate with crab rangoon. Maybe it's me but a bed of onions ugh.. Noooo! One little half broccoli. I'm used to different veg mixed. Shrimp tasted burnt and was hard and dry. It didn't even taste like teriyaki! Suppose to be Fried rice was hard tasted like white rice with a little coloring ( probably a spec of soy ) I did enjoy the California roll. The crab Rangoon was nothing but cream cheese. Hokkaido has been a regular spot of mine for a few years now, and I think it's time I give them a review! The waitstaff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and the food is always very good and correct. When I dine in, service is prompt and polite, and when I get it to go it is just as good as if I ordered in the restaurant. Sushi: I am super picky about the quality of tuna and salmon (that's my normal sushi order, nigiri style) and I have never been disappointed at Hokkaido. Being used to Hawaii sushi, and also having experienced Japanese sushi, this was a wonderful thing. Appetizers: my go-to are the gyoza (fried or steamed) and the edamame. Both are fantastic! I have recently added the hibachi filet mignon to my regular order and it has always been wonderful. The udon is also very very good, perfect for a rainy day! (Or a bad hangover day, if that happens to you.) Definitely worth the stop if you enjoy good sushi in an area where you wouldn't expect to find it! read more

The fried rice was thrown away because it was literally so hard and crunchy it couldn't be eaten. Not my favorite sushi place and ordering over the phone is a little ridiculous because if you don't ask for your soup or salad then it doesn't come with the meal when that's what it's advertised as....Not a fan of that or having to ask for a sauce because they will not provide it with the side or meal unless asked. Again, when it's listed it's a small argument to not be charged to get it corrected. The last time we tried to give it a shot because it's convenient and close thankfully it wasn't terrible but that's because a nice young lady was understanding and presumably newer to the staff. Asked waiter about picture of Sashimi- about 9pcs it was on a menu. She told me thats it is 2 Roses. When I ordered it was 1 pcs of very dark tuna- super thin and long- never had such a cut of Sushimi. Salmon was the same 1 pc, but thiker. Very misleading. Not happy! read more

Met a friend for dinner at this restaurant and must say the food was very good. We ordered the Happy roll to share and it has to be my favorite sushi roll to day. Of course it's fried so it has to be good, right lol. We both had the hibachi chicken and were surprised at the amount of meat they give you. It comes with a salad and fried rice. The fried rice is in a separate bowl so the plate is strictly the chicken and vegetables. We both had plenty of left overs for another meal. The chicken was very dry, but tasted good. Sadly, the salad is very poor with only lettuce, half a cherry tomato and two tiny, and I do mean tiny pieces of cucumber. They're so tiny you might miss that they're in it. Service was very good too with the waiter constantly keeping an eye ok our glasses to make sure we had plenty to drink. For a strip mall Japanese restaurant I was impressed. Prices are better than most Japanese places I've been too and portion size far exceeds the rest. Will definitely be back to try other items read more

I was driving looking for sushi and came across this place. Ofcourse I Yelp to see reviews before heading in. Not too sure how this place has such high ratings. My experience from beginning to end was "eh". It started with being asked what I would like to drink and I kindly asked if they had Thai tea. The server smirked and chuckled saying no. Then I just asked for a water. As he walked to the back to get my water I over heard him laugh and discuss with a coworker that I had gone in asking for Thai tea. (NOT SURE IF HES AWARE BUT MANY SUSHI PLACES ACTUALLY OFFER THAI TEA) just saying. The miso soup was a 5/10. The crunchy roll had very little rice and it was EXTRA chewy. Probably second to worst crunchy roll I've ever had. And I eat sushi at least 1-2x a week. It was the first crunchy roll I ever had with a kick of spicy-ness to it. The shrimp tempura roll was okay. But again had a chewy consistency compared to the crunchy roll. The salmon sashimi was the best thing on the plate I ordered. I eat sashimi regularly and it was pretty good. 3 stars for the attentive refills on my water and the sashimi. But apart from that I don't think I'll be returning to this place. read more

Promptly, warmly greeted and seated . Started with the shrimp tempura which was fresh, hot and crispy- it came with some veggies too! MMMM I had hibachi chicken cooked to perfection with fresh vegetables Also cooked perfectly. My husband ordered eel Rolls- eel was bbq perfectly and expertly rolled and Fresh fresh. He ordered shrimp hibachi - another home run with shrimp and fresh veggies- great service and reasonably priced. Oh, and the hibachi dinners come with soup Or Salad!
