Beautiful and open inside! I love the wooden decor and various lanterns. There is space for hibachi tables, but there are also booths and tables as well as seating at bar. I sat in a booth and I know that this is so picky, but the seats were so far back from the end booth that I had to sit on the same side as my friend to reach the table. Not a dealbreaker, just uncomfortable. The food was great though! I had a tempura shrimp roll and found it crispy and yummy. The vegetable udon was the star and it was packed with flavor. Haven't been to a hibachi place before and decided to go with my brothers family. appointment is 7pm which they confirmed, upon arriving staff mentions there's only 2 hibachi chefs and they both busy and we had to wait, when it hit 7:30pm we was already fed up because there was still two groups ahead of us and waiting too (would have been another hour or two so we decided to leave with the appetizers, half the sushi we ordered was wrong and they were poorly assembled. Love this spot! Kaika Teppanyaki has become one of my go to places when I'm in 5 points. The sushi is always delicious, my favorite (outside of the yellowtail) has to be the sweet potato roll. The hibachi chicken never disappoints and the gyoza, spring rolls, and shrimp fried rice are all excellent. They even make it easy for my son, he loves their chicken nuggets and fries, which is a nice touch for families with picky eaters. I've honestly never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here. The vibe inside is dark and moody, which works great for both a couples' date night or a family dinner. We used to love coming here, but they ripped out all the hibachi grills and are now just an Asian fusion restaurant which Jacksonville has so many of those. The service was alright nothing above and beyond but nothing terrible. The food was the biggest disappointment like I said we loved the japanese steakhouse hibachi food it had so much flavor and seasoning to it. Tried this place out for the first time since I was in riverside area. Came in 30-40mins after they reopened, the place is a hibachi as well a sushi restaurant so that's pretty cool! The service provided by Matt was good. The atmosphere well it's a bit too dark imo. Here's what we tried : Salt and pepper ribs - 7/10 it was good but abit dry, I thought there would be sauce provided for the ribs. I've visited Kaika several times since my first visit. The hibachi is always delicious. They've since made changes to their menu. One being the option of soup or salad. They used to offer soup and salad during lunch or dinner. They also took scallops off the lunch menu. I used to order shrimp and scallops or scallops and steak for lunch. Now that option is only available for dinner. My most recent visit was for my sister's birthday dinner. They allowed us to bring in balloons and gifts. The hibachi area is dimly lit and the tables have warm light. I ordered scallops and steak. Everything was delicious. I love their noodles. Yelp really helps when you are in a city that you know little about and are getting to the point where you think you could eat your own arm off. We decided for the sake of time to just get a table and if we wanted anything from the hibachi grill, they will still bring it to you without the big hibachi show that they put on. We started with the mushroom soup, fried dumplings and seaweed salad. I have to say that the mushroom soup was a little disappointing because it only had two very thin sliced mushrooms in the entire bowl but the dumplings were on point. I loved that the filling still had crunch to it and they were very flavorful. The seaweed salad was a little different in that it had red pepper flakes to give it a little kick but it wasn't over powering. For our sushi rolls we got the Lonely Christmas, Jimmy Smith and Angel. The Lonely Christmas comes with fresh jalapenos on it and I removed those right after I took the picture because that is too much heat for me but watch out, if you forget to remove the seeds it will still get ya! This is such a good spot in a fun location with tons nearby! There are a bunch of restaurants to choose from but we were craving some hibachi. We opted to sit at the table by the bar vs at a hibachi table but it was still fun to see the chefs cooking it up to the groups at hibachi. The food was sooooo good!! 11/3/18: Bumping my previous review rating from 4 to 5 stars. We went to Kaika Teppanyaki to celebrate my Father in Law's 76th birthday. I have to say that despite the place being busy, we got seated right away. Our waitress came out quick, greeted us and took our orders. It did not take long to get our drinks and our starters, which is the soup and salad, that most Japanese restaurants serve. Our chef, Jessie, was a phenomenal chef. Great cook, entertainer, and quite the comedian. The food was made just right and was delicious. We had about 3 rounds of Sakes that night to boot. I have been to Kaika Teppanyaki a few times, both as part of a work group and with just a couple people, always at lunch. The restaurant can get a little busy but they move quickly and the wait hasn't been very long. I have sat and watched the hibachi presentation and cooking and have sat in the more intimate restaurant section. Both are great. When we did the hibachi, our group of 9 had a table to ourselves for lunch and it was great. They were very entertaining and also quick. The orders were all accurate and we were in and out in about an hour, perfect for a weekday lunch. When I have gone with a smaller party, three or less, the service is just as good. The food is always excellent and tastes freshly prepared. The hibachi is good. I have had the steak and shrimp. It comes with vegetables, rice and noodles along with soup and salad. I have not been able to finish it. I ordered my steak mid rare and it was perfectly mid rare. On my latest visit I had the lunch bento box with Chicken tempura. I substituted the California roll for a bagel roll. There was a small upcharge (totally fine with that) and they were great about it. My bento box was fantastic and really included a lot of food! It had the chicken tempura, vegetable tempura, spring roll, fried rice, my sushi roll and an orange. It was absolutely wonderful! I will gladly go back to Kaika Teppanyaki in the future! The service is always great and the servers are very friendly. My orders have always been accurate even with customizations. This used to be one of my favorite places to come and get hibachi and sushi. The last couple times, I've been disappointed. With the current climate were in , everything is more expensive...but this place literally took that and ran with it. And to top it off..the quality of food isn't the same as it used to be. 3 premium sushi rolls gonna cost you anywhere between $43-$56. That's not even including the $28- $31 you're gonna spend on hibachi... $17 if you want veggie hibachi. The drinks from the bar... watered down. Hmm, what makes you think that? I'm glad you asked. Whiskey and ginger is the one drink that I get 100% of the time I go out and there's whiskey available. I even overheard another patron at the bar say "this Jameson doesn't taste like the Jameson I have at home" The customer service was indeed decent. For the day that we went; there were 2 servers working in the hibachi area. For the guy to be tending to the many families that made up the 6 full hibachi stations...he did well. I won't say I'll never be back...but I'd definitely consider other options and maybe even going without before i return. read more

This was a random lunch spot we chose driving by with no plans. It's in a great location behind the historic 5 points area - towards the Riverside area vs. the St. John's. Simple and sleek modern decor, the place was empty at 2:00 on a Friday. We were greeted and seated promptly and service had appropriate timing. I opted to try their Malaysian roti to start and it came out quickly. It was served sliced into triangles with a curry dipping sauce. It was good but I've been spoiled with a version just around the corner. I was leaning towards a bento box but at the last minute ordered beef pad Thai. Their spice level options range from 1-10 and if you know me, I'm asking for 10. Actually I would normally order at 11 but my last experience doing this proved that I need to calm down just a bit. While the pad Thai was ok, the spice level was nowhere near a 10. My lunch party ordered a 6 and said it was quite hot. It leaves me to wonder if there was a mix up in the kitchen as mine felt more like a 2. I know it's subjective measurement but it was at a level of mild chicken wings. Overall it leaned toward the bland and unimpressive. It wasn't a horrible experience but I don't think it's a place I would add to a regular rotation. read more

Giving Kaika five stars because it has everything you would want at a teppanyaki restaurant with a few surprises. First of all, this restaurant is in a shopping plaza, which meant there were plenty of parking out front. I was very glad to find out we didn't have to circle around for street parking. Not only was our server very attentive, but the hibachi chef was also very funny and entertaining. We took advantage of the Yelp check in to get free hot sake. Everybody got a small hot sake. What a great way to start the meal. There is a bar and dining section inside if you didn't want to sit at a hibachi table. The cocktail selection has some fun offerings. The most pleasant surprise, were the noodles that came with the hibachi meals. Not only do you automatically get fried rice at no up charge, you also get a portion of teppan noodles at the end of the meal. SCORE!!! I was beyond excited to learn this from our server. Option of miso or onion/mushroom soup. House salad can be topped off with their ginger dressing or ranch. I decided to order the scallop and steak combo. Everything tasted good to me. Our chef also tossed broccoli in the air for my table to catch. Fun times. I picked this for dinner because it was my friend's birthday. We wanted to surprise her with a cake at the end of dinner. Our hostess helped us store the cake in the fridge while our server helped take it out lit with candles we prepared when it was singing time. Not only that, the birthday friend's boyfriend proposed to her, which was a complete surprise to me. The restaurant gave us a free bottle of champagne for a group to enjoy a toast. Our chef even came back out and sang a song to congratulate them accompanied by his ukulele....! Palm on face! Was it because I went with good friends that made this so enjoyable? Was it because it was my friend's birthday? Was it because I also got to witness her engagement? Was it just because the food and service was great? I would have to say all of the above. Sadly I was extremely unimpressed with my experience here and only because with such high Yelp reviews, I would've expected much better Teppanyaki. I will begin with what I liked: 1. Atmosphere 2. Filet was good 3. Shrimp was good 4. Chef was friendly Now with what I did not like: pretty much all the food. The salad was not mixed greens as written on the menu, but exclusively iceberg. There was one piece of cucumber and a giant drop of thick chemical-orange ginger sauce. The salad was bland and not good at all. The miso soup had hardly any tofu and was super salty. The worst part of the meal were the vegetables and fried rice. Fried race is supposed to be the staple of Teppanyaki; a delicious well made fried rice is what we all love. The fried rice here was just terrible. The only ingredients were rice, scrambled egg, and soy sauce. No onions, sauce, carrots, peas, sesame seeds, etc... The vegetables were soggy and had no flavor as well. Even the dipping sauces (shrimp and steak) were not good and seemed to be from a wholesale distributor and not made on site. I really wanted to like this place with the great reviews. Finding great, fresh, authentic, and well prepared Teppanyaki can be difficult and I'm sorry to say that this place did not make the cut. Went for lunch. I had the chicken and shrimp hibachi, lunch partner had shrimp and steak hibachi, spicy tuna and Philly roll- 2 iced teas. That's it. Food was pretty good. Our chef was nice and chatty and we enjoyed watching him cook. Server was nice and attentive. What's give for the 3 stars? Well.., they had a 20% gratuity to all parties - doesn't matter the size- and the sign said they tip share. Ok that's fine I guess... I usually tip a little over 20 if the service is really good so that won't be happening.... So when I got the ticket there's wasn't an itemized bill and my total was $75 - for lunch! Our lunch portions were $16 and $18, 2 rolls, and 2 drinks. Portions were definitely lunch size so I can't say we had "big" portions. What really irritated me was on the ticket it didn't show the 20% added- which it clearly was and prompted me to add MORE of a tip and even gave me suggestions to meet the 15, 20, and 25% option- this is tipping on TOP of the tip. Seemed a little presumptuous or tricky if you ask me. Prob won't be back. I plan on tipping when I go out to eat and plan my budget for a good tip but not a 35 or 40% tip.
