I stopped by here on my lunch break and was happily surprised! Service was fast, my order was ready in less than 10 minutes. The place was very clean and well kept, and fairly large for a sushi place. Both of the things I ordered were delicious. My coworkers were also very happy with their orders. My only complaint is that you have to grab all of your utensils and condiments at a separate station which we didn't know, so we almost walked out without chopsticks! Every time we have family coming over and don't want to cook, we order the party tray which is the bomb. You get so much for such a great price. They are friendly and quick with their service. I've only been inside once but the ambiance seemed relaxed. They had customers going in and out so it seems like it's pretty popular. Sushi tastes amazing as well. We ordered the chicken tempura roll, shrimp tempura, rock shrimp, chicken hibachi, clear soup, teriyaki chicken, snow mountain roll, house salad, harumaki rolls, chicken gyoza and udon noodles with chicken, shrimp and steak. So the two stars were not for the sushi itself, which was not bad. We ordered from the website as we're from out of town, staying in AirBnB.... They charge $.50 for extra wasabi, give NO soy sauce (maybe you have to ask and pay extra for that too?,) and no chopsticks? And in looking at the bill, there was an additional $1.50 charge for Menu FY- for ordering online? They really need to have a better plan, you locals should know about all this bs. read more

My boss treated us for my birthday. I also ordered clear soup, crab ragoons and dumplings. I was very impressed by the steak. It was so juicy and tender. I'm currently on the office couch letting it settle. I decided I was going to stuff my face too much. It was worth it though. Bendoya is a nice little restaurant located off of University near Memorial Hospital. They serve reasonably priced Japanese / Chinese food along with specialty items such as boba, a rare find for this restaurant as I've mentally categorized it as a takee outee. However they do have plenty of chairs and tables as well as booths if you prefer to dine in. The restaurant itself is very clean. I love all of the labeled food picture decor on the windows and walls because it makes decision making so much easier when you have no idea what you're in the mood for. I was greeted by friendly faces. I always appreciate friendliness (who doesn't). I'm very big on customer service and they definitely get 5 stars for that. I ordered a Bento box hibachi steak but instead got the lunch special hibachi steak. Luckily, I wasn't very hungry so I'm a little grateful they got my order wrong, otherwise it may have been too much food for me. The steak is pretty good. It doesn't have that wow factor but the texture was great and it was quite juicy. Everything is made in front of you! I had carrots and broccoli on the side, seemed like they were just steamed fresh. I'm a huge carrot snoot because I feel like everyone should have Wasabi's sweet carrots. The carrots I had were quite boring and healthy lol. Which means no salt or seasoning whatsoever. No complaints though, I always have shrimp sauce on the side to drench my food in. I do love my shrimp sauce. I think this place has a lot of potential. I love the layout and their food is good. I highly recommend if you are craving take out and want something substantially better than reheated fried rice and MSG-filled lo mein. Located at the old Baldinos subs spot - I really miss those subs. I think the quality was just too much to keep up with and they just couldn't reach that level of traffic needed to turn a profit. If you never ate there, trust me when I say you missed out. Something else moved in after Baldinos but I never had a chance to try those subs. Next thing you know, it's now Bendoya. I read good things about the ramen so that's what I came to try. I opted for the roast pork soy ramen and it was very good. One of the standard items included bok choy which sometimes costs extra at other joints so that's definitely cool. Flavor profile was good, protein size was ample, and egg was cooked perfectly. It's counter service with an open kitchen so you can pretty much see what's going on behind the scenes. I'll definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more

Come here for a super casual, quick dining experience. Overall I'd give a 3.5 but this place doesn't deserve a 3-star rating. While there's not much to their ambiance or decor, service is very fast and friendly. ** Roasted Pork Spicy Miso Ramen ** I swapped out the ramen noodles for udon noodles. Broth was quite good, though not as spicy as I hoped it would be. I do wish there was a few more pieces of bok choy but the noodles were soft. I also ordered an extra side of pork for $2. My biggest disappointment was the egg. Most ramen places have runny eggs that just melt in your mouth. But their egg was fully cooked, so no yummy yolk goodness there. I ** Black Milk Tea ** It was ok but I just wanted to point out that the boba was on the smaller side and was extra chewy. Like the boba pearls weren't cooked long enough to be softer. --- The kitchen is set up so you can actually see your food being cooked. Ever since coming from the west coast I've been craving Asian food. Even simple teriyaki. Got the chicken hibachi. I don't know why all the Asian food in Jacksonville has so much oil in it. Not sure what happened but this trip was very disappointing. I have gotten their hibachi and fried rice several times, and it was always delicious. Today I had a craving for ramen, so I got the veggie soy ramen and added shrimp and egg. My son had the eel cucumber roll and shrimp tempura roll (his favorite to get any time we have sushi anywhere else). Sides were shrimp tempura and spring rolls. The ramen noodles, though thankfully not instant, tasted like they were boiled in plastic that shouldn't be boiled. The vegetables were char grilled before being added to the bowl (this is not how ramen is supposed to be done), and they also had a plastic-y taste to them. The egg was fried (in ramen it is supposed to be a soft boiled egg). The broth was the only thing that made this edible - it had a good flavor on its own. The spring rolls and shrimp tempura were very obviously bought frozen pre-made, and tasted like they had been in the freezer for too long. I did not taste my son's sushi rolls, but he said they were definitely not impressive. The staff are very pleasant, though! Maybe take sushi and ramen off their menu and just stick with hibachi. read more

The sushi here is SO good! Very fresh, and unlike many places who just use a lot of rice as filler, they don't skimp on the good ingredients! The service was fast and friendly. I came here to get some dinner to go on a Sunday night. I ordered through the website for pickup which was ready in about 15 minutes. The lady at the counter was very friendly and packed our order to go very well. Upon reaching back to my destination, my husband and I unpacked all of our order. Everything was packed well, no spillage. Everything was packed in a large brown paper bag and then a plastic bag to make it easier to carry and keep the food warm. We ordered the Baked Seafood Roll ($5.55) two hibachi dinners: H9. Steak and Shrimp ($12.25) and the H10. Chicken, Steak and Shrimp ($13.95) She even included some Sriracha and Shrimp Sauce on the side. There were napkins, forks, chopsticks and soy sauce included in the bag. I am not 100% sure if the sushi roll I ordered was right, because it was just krab salad, but that's okay, because it was still pretty good. The Hibachi meals were fantastic. I really liked the fried rice because it was all fresh and flavorful. The Steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly and there was enough teriyaki to not overpower the food. There was also fresh broccoli and zucchini and I like the carrots on the side. I really enjoyed my meal and it was a lot. I could have easily split it in half, but I hadn't eaten all day, so I was pretty hungry. I didn't take photos of my meals, which I tend to do when I am hungry. Sorry. The price is good, the portions are generous and the food is certainly good. I will be back for sure! My customers even asked what i was eating because it smelled good. read more

Continuing to explore Jacksonville's ramen options, I stopped in to Bendoya Asian Kitchen while running some errands in the area. It shares a plaza with T-Mobile, and the turn-in is on the T-mobile side. They have a fast casual setup here. Orders are placed at the front counter, then you can find a seat. The kitchen area is openly visible from most of the dining area, so you can watch them make your order. I was the only customer when I popped in on a Sunday evening. The young woman at the counter explained that they have soy or miso options when it comes to the broth. I opted to try their roasted pork spicy miso ramen, and a Thai bubble tea as a takeout order. The thai tea was a bit underwhelming. It had the right flavor, but seemed small for the price, was loaded with ice, and the boba were a bit chewier than usual. As for the ramen, it was packaged as attractively as you could expect in two containers. Seeing the egg had been fried was a bit of a downer, as I do like the yolk. But after a moment, I realized that's on me. There are really no better options for sending it to go. The pork was pretty good, and the noodles were soft and tasty. The miso broth pleasantly surprised me. It had a hint of spicy/sweet that I try again. Overall, some hits, and one miss, but overall I'm pleased with the experience. Next time I'm in the area, I'd like to give it another go as a dine-in experience. read more
