A friend and I decided to try this restaurant, because neither of us have never been there before. Upon walking in the ambience is great very warm very inviting, culturally sensitive. The food I will say whisk OK. The chicken with green onion presented well not very much flavor which was a little disappointing. As an appetizer, the portion was adequate. With regard to the sushi it was nothing to write home about. It was OK. Finally, the service I can't say a lot about it because I don't know that it was all that great. We really did not see the waitress much, and though friendly, just really didn't go above and beyond it was kind of difficult to get a hold of her when we needed something. Overall, this was OK. It's been awhile since I last visited (looks like 2015). Came here for lunch to celebrate my brother's birthday. It appears to be under different management now since 2015 but looks quite the same. I don't remember all the rolls we got but could name a few: Rainbow Roll, Yellowtail Roll, Happy Dragon Roll, Cosmo Roll, Samurai Roll, Yellow Monster Roll (?) and two others. All the Rolls were great and definitely would like to try out more of their menu. Love sushi and happy to say it's better than our last experience. Glad to revisit and try it out again. My husband comes here often during the week b/c it is close to his work. We were out shopping during the weekend and decided to stop in. We both immediately noticed how hot it was inside the restaurant. Almost as if they had the heat on during a 70+ degree day. After about 10 minutes I got used to it enough and decided to stay. We both ordered Miso soup and a Sleeping Beauty roll. The miso was good but had way too many scallions in it (and I like them just very overwhelming amount this day). I have to say I really enjoyed our sushi rolls. The sleeping beauty has tuna inside, avocado I think cucumber, krap on top, spicy mayo etc. Really really great roll. I would order this again in a second. Service was attentive without being overwhelming and she checked on our drinks twice which was appreciated. This is not some cheap place that uses poor quality fish or ingredients. You'll get some excellent food here for a fairly reasonable price point. I very much like getting the 3 roll deal for around $12. Highlights are their cucumber roll, avocado roll, and tempura sweet potato roll. Fresh, flavorful, and incredibly filling and delicious. The place is very clean, well decorated and played a great soundtrack throughout the restaurant! I don't know if it was Japanese music or not, but I had not heard it before. The Sushi is wonderful! I got the Lunch Special Rolls, 2 for $7.50 or 3 for $9.95. They were fresh, pretty to look at and even better tasting! They didn't overpower you with a lot of rice and the fish portion was substantial. My sister got the Sushi Special, buy 2 rolls, get 1 @ 50% off. Comes out to about the same price as my three rolls, but this way we got to try different rolls. Hers were just as good and we had to take a lot home. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! Now I don't know about their weekday lunch, but I can only imagine that it is packed and you would need to get there early or come for a later lunch. read more

New to JAX so I'm not sure how convenient this location is for the people that live here. But Phillip Sushi is a nice pit stop for those who are randomly craving for some sushi along their travels. Loved the soft piano music they play in the background. The interiors of the restaurant are already nice to begin with, so the music adds to the ambiance. The service was quick. Moment I walked in, the host greeted my right away offering me any seat that I would like. I was the only one there, sure, but it was still nice. I ordered the Miso Soup, Fried Crab appetizer, and their version of the dragon roll. All of it was delicious. The Fried crab was crispy and meaty with crab and the dragon roll tasted great. The avocado, the shrimp, the rice, all of it seemed like it was made fresh for me. Sushi places can taste the same after while. I had decided beforehand that after getting out of the movie theater, we'd head next door to get some sushi. I hadn't had sushi in a while so I was excited to see the high marks on Yelp for this place. First off, this place is small compared to the other restaurants in the same shopping center but I guess you don't need a whole lotta room for good food. We walked in and it wasn't that busy. A server greeted us and told us to sit whereever we wanted. A guy and his lady friend waved for us to sit at the table in front of him. My friend and I looked at each other, shrugged, and sate where he wanted us to. No biggie. Without missing a beat another server came by and greeted us, gave us menus, and took our drink orders. My friend chose water and I chose Green Tea. Tea came out in a handleless mug and was nice and hot. The server came back shortly afterwards with hot sake purchased by the the guy who wanted us to sit at the table. Awww how nice, free sake from a stranger. We turned around and thanked him kindly. I had been avoiding alcohol for a while just for personal wellbeing but I believe the universe had decided that the time had come. I believe I drank most of it though. I'd never had sake before and boy was it strong. I liked it though. There was a lot of sushi choices so we took our time going over the menu. My friend finally decided on the Twin Roll (spicy salmon, eel crunch caviar, and salmon on top) and the Yummy Roll (Soybean paper wrapped lobster salad, avocado, lettuce and mango with shrimp on top w. special sauce). He really enjoyed both of them while I liked the Yummy Roll over the Twin Roll. I ordered the Baymeadows Roll (Soybean paper wrapped shrimp tempura, krabmeat, cream cheese, avocado & mango w. special sauce) and the the Godzilla Roll (Spicy tuna, white fish, krabmeat, avocado, deep-fried w. chef's special sauce & caviar).
