Solo lunch dates are my favorite way to discover hidden gems, and Oishii did not disappoint. I came in craving two very specific things: chicken yakisoba and yellowtail hamachi. Luckily, Oishii had both. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall sushi spot, but honestly, those are usually the places with the best food. I started with the miso soup, then ordered the chicken yakisoba and yellowtail hamachi. The yakisoba instantly took me back to Little Tokyo in Los Angeles...it had that authentic flavor that's surprisingly hard to find. The yellowtail was incredibly fresh, buttery, and exactly what I was hoping for. The service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and everything hit the spot. I love that they offer lunch specials even on Saturday. We ordered the hibachi chicken for my 19 month old twins and they devoured it. Toddler approved! This business has been here for over 10 years and this is our first time and definitely not the last. Came here on a Friday for dinner. Place is quite small but we were greeted and seated right away. Ordered the Shrimp Tempura roll for appetizer and it came out fresh! However, it does not come with the pickled ginger and wasabi and I had to ask for our server for them. She came back with only the ginger, oh well, we still enjoyed it. My husband got the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice and it taste like an authentic Japanese curry! Very flavorful! I opted for the Chicken Hibachi which comes with vegetables but I substituted the fried rice for noodles. I combined the veggies to the noodles and it was perfect! The chicken was tender and tasty! I've been here several times ever since the last review completed in 2015. So now, it's time for an update in 2020. As usual, great place to get really good sushi, ramen and japanese curry. I've always been impressed with the staff of this establishment. Their presentation is always great and their fish always tasted fresh and clean. Came here with a girlfriend that I havent seen for almost a year. This is our go-to spot everytime we meet up because we both like this establishment. The decor and ambience is always great and the staff is attentive and friendly as always. As a starter, we chose Takoyaki and for our entree was the Sushi for two (2). Takoyaki - definitely a good starter if you like seafood condensed into a ball with some good sweet sauce and fish flakes. Sushi for Two - you get 10 pieces of sushi (nigiri - fish on top of rice), 24 pcs sashimi (raw fish by itself), 1 regular roll (your choice), 1 chef special roll (your choice), 2 soups and 2 salads. As a regular roll, we choose the Rock N Roll and as for the chef special, the Golden Dragon Roll. The Rock N Roll consisted of shrimp tempura, cream cheese, crabmeat, avocado and tobiko (the orange fish roe). The Golden Dragon Roll consisted of eel, avocado topped with spicy crab (shredded), tobiko, crunch and special sauce. Both absolutely tasteful! Everything was delicious and fresh. My absolute favorite had always been the sashimi and nigiri as I always liked the taste of fresh raw fish. We both are never disappointed and the staff also treated us with two fried oreos as dessert (by that time, we both were already full). When in the area, there are an abundance of dining options. I have to be honest, I had never been in this dedicated shopping plaza until my date night with bae. Oishii wasn't perfect, but the sushi here is spot on! The space is much smaller than I anticipated. Like many Asian restaurants, you cannot see inside when standing outside. However, the glare during sunset is brutal, and I can see why they shade the windows to cool down the space. If you're facing the front door when it opens, be prepared to be blinded. You have been warned! Let's get down to business. Oishii specializes in sushi and that's what I recommend you stick with. They have the classic cooked and raw rolls, deep fried rolls, hand rolls, chef's specialty rolls (with pictures), and even sushi boats. Caterpillar Roll - Spicy crab, cream cheese, avocado, but the seaweed salad on top was the kicker and the most scrumptious. Really enjoyed this roll thanks to the fresh bite from the seaweed. Lion King Roll - Shrimp tempura, cucumber, soy paper, and topped with extremely delicious salmon. The special sauce paired wonderfully with the fresh fish. Zero complaints with the sushi. For me, the lack in star is because of the kind of run down atmosphere. The bathroom needed a touch up, the booths were old, and the menu were sticky. Tuna was fresh and seemed like good quality to me. The curry doesn't look like much, but was better than expected. Since there was an option for duck katsu, I went for it of course. The breading was crispy, not as fluffy as I like, but pretty good. The meat also seemed a bit thin, but the flavor was fantastic. It was a successful duck katsu. Naturally, the curry was not spicy enough, but I WD-40'd that with some sriracha and hot pepper mix. Other than that, the flavor, contents, and thickness are all excellent. There's some meat in the curry too. The white rice was also a softer kind more fitting for Japanese style curry that absorbs the sauce nicely. The clear soup they offered as an appetizer also has a nice flavor. If they just put noodles in this, I'd probably be happy. I was going out to celebrate my birthday this weekend, and prior to seeing a movie, I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat with my friends. Going inside, there wasn't a giant wait, and we were able to order right away. For dinner, we ordered 1 side salad, 1 miso soup, 1 fire dragon roll, 1 fusion roll, tonkotsu ramen, warm sake, and 1 other roll I cannot identify. Moving on with my review, neither of us felt truly satisfied with the food and service that we recieved that day. The best parts of the meal I felt were the salad, which possessed a nice creamy ginger dressing with fresh greens, and the miso soup that had a nice miso aroma to it. As for the major courses, the sushi was assembled together well, and fish was fresh. However, the rolls themselves didn't pack a whole ton of flavors, and it seemed like the restaurant accidentaly messed up our 2nd roll ordered. The ramen we agreed was also a dissapointment, as it had been skimpy on the chai su pork & egg, weak broth, and claimed fresh made noodles but tasted like egg. Moreover, if you thought the food wasn't good, the service we recieved that night wasn't any better. Whenever we asked our server for silverware or sauces for the table, she seemed to get pretty irritated. This is my second time coming here this week. The service is excellent; the server was always checking up on us and making sure everything was okay. We got complimentary crab rangoons as an appetizer and fried oreos as dessert. The tako yaki was sooo yummy! The katsu don had so much flavor but I wish the pork was crispier, I think the egg on top made it a little soggy. Regardless, the portion is quite large and it's well seasoned. I decided to try this little place out today for the first time. Upon entering the place, there was a cash register to the left and the prep area straight back. Seating was a combination of booths and tables, and what I like to call "boothables" - tables with chairs on one side, and a bench type cushioned seat on the other, against the wall. I waited at the door for 2 to 3 min and saw no one in the building besides the handful of people eating, except one in the back prepping rolls. Finally, another customer said i can just take a seat. So I did. Service came right away and I ordered clear soup and a soda. There are lunch specials and so I found my choice of 2 rolls, which comes with salad or soup. Since I already ordered soup, this option works nicely. All for 7.50. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll and Dynamite Roll. The Spicy Tuna Roll was pretty good but the Dynamite Roll tasted llke old frying oil. It wasn't too good. Overall a decent experience, but I think that when it's busy they may cut corners and rush it. read more

Situated near the heart of Southside, it faces a lot of competition being situated in an area where you can literally see another sushi place just standing outside in the parking lot. I was eager to try their ramen and I won't lie, this is not their forte! Nevertheless tonight's dinner was a pleasant surprise. I was floored by how outstanding the customer service was and how efficient the staff was at preparing our meals. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to our server Nancy for handling a large party of 10 with great ease and impressive attentiveness. She is the kind of waitress who doesn't need to be called on for anything because she can read your mind and anticipate what you are about to ask for! Very sweet and very fast! She is hardworking and genuinely friendly! I absolutely enjoyed having her! This place is highly recommended because of the amazing customer service. The food: My problem with the food was the ramen noodles. It wasn't the thick kind that I like. The Tonkatsu pork belly ramen was very shy with its flavor. I like my Tonkatsu bold and screaming with swine fat flavor! This ramen had a broth that wasn't "rich" enough for me. My kids however (12 and 3), LOVED every bit of this ramen. They couldn't get enough! They liked the texture of the noodles and even the flavor of the broth. The sushi was very delicious. I ordered the Oishii special in addition to the Tonkatsu pork ramen and The Shrimp Tempura dinner. The "Southside"sushi was apparently really good too. The shrimp tempura was crispy and flavors were just right. Because we were celebrating a birthday, the celebrant got fried ice cream on the house! My my!
