Little spot in a non-descript strip mall, big on flavor. Everything was fresh and flavorful, menu is large enough for good options, but small enough to ensure everything is prepared perfectly. The wings are perfectly crispy. Ask to sit either Christian, he's a delight!
Honestly the food was really good. And I feel like this has been the best ramen I've had in Jacksonville. The chicken karaage was probably my favorite of the night. It was super crispy, but the meat was still so juicy. And the sweet and creamy sauces just finished the perfect bite. The ramens were pretty solid too. The matcha broth was super creamy and light. And the tonkotsu was so flavorful, with really tender chashu and a perfectly soft boiled egg. Plus the noodles were a really good texture. The restaurant itself is really cute too. They also have a convenience store type of ramen station in the front, which I really want to try. As well as a little arcade game that you can play in the front while you wait to be seated. However, I was really not a fan of the service. It's nothing really against the servers because they were super nice, but they just seemed so frazzled. We arrived around an hour before closing, but it took forever for us to be seated, despite seeing a few empty tables around. By the time we were seated, we were told kitchen would be closing in two minutes, so we had to hurry and put in our orders. All of that was fine and I didn't mind. But what I did mind was that our waitress checked our order twice when we first have it. And she came back to our table within the next five minutes to check our orders again for a third time to make sure she had down what we wanted. I wanted the matcha ramen and was most looking forward to having some chashu and egg. So she confirmed my order three times that I wanted matcha ramen. But when it came out, she gave me the vegetable bowl. I knew the kitchen had closed at that point, so I just ate it, but I was really disappointed. (I did get to try a bite of my friends egg and chashu, which also didn't really help because it was so good and made me wish mine came with those even more.) When we were finished eating, it took forever for the checks to come out. This I also didn't mind that much, because the servers, again, looked really frazzled trying to close up. But at this point we had waited until well after their closing time, so part of me was hoping they could just close us out first and then finish closing down the place. I think we waited at least half an hour from when we first asked for the check (at which point we had already been waiting a while) to when we finally got our cards back. I did see they charged me for the vegetable version of the matcha ramen so it was whatever, but then also I was confused - so it wasn't a mix up in the kitchen, she rang it up as the vegetable one from the beginning! Even though I never mentioned it and she never said vegetable when confirming my order. It was a dollar less to get tofu instead of an egg and chashu which doesn't seem worth it. Writing this all out, I'm sorry to rant, because the food really was good. And looking at other reviews, it looks like the service is usually pretty good. But again, it was just disappointing. That being said, I am really hoping it was a one off thing because I would go again and try some other menu items too.
I have to say this is one of my top places to go! Brought a close friend who has never tried Ramen so here we come! She had the chicken broth ramen with chicken breast and curry. A little shy with curry, she quickly learned it was superb! I had the veggie curry, which as always, OUTSTANDING!!! If u never tried Modu, it's a must!!
Nice restaurant with multiple food options! Love the self serve ramen bar and all the fixings you can add to it, such a fun option. Staff is quick and knowledgeable. Their tonkotsu ramen was okay, I like the option to add spice at different levels.
Food is amazing, made to order. One of the best Ramen places around. They added the make your own ramen, fun! The dessert bowls are BINGSOO and delicious! Server was friendly, attentive time, and eager to help w suggestions. Ambience takes me back to Tokyo with the small booths, the decor, and fragrant broth smells. Accommodates small and lg groups. Drink list includes the reg sodas, tea, and Beer,sake, plum wine, and a few other options. Music is pleasing & traditional.
Still very excellent. I've gone at lunch times recently and it seems very busy then--or more people are finding out about this place! They are still going through an experiment phase here and there, so don't be surprised if your dish varies here and there with slightly different things (different veggies, up to 3 slices of chasu or down to 2 thicker ones), etc. It's all good! Also, they are playing with adding some desserts (mochi ice cream) and they have given us fruit jellies with our check. If you can go with the flow, it's fun to see what is new! I had a lovely talk with the chef. He's so nice and his family really sweet; not to mention, talented! He personally built all those wooden booths! He's toying with adding the Korean black noodle dish to the menu (jjajangmyeon) if I understood it correctly. So he's always looking for ways to improve or add! I finally tried the KFC (korean fried chicken). Spicy is not that spicy, so let them know you really want it spicy if you like it. I also suspected I was accidentally served the honey KFC. But not sure. It was a wetter glaze and sat on a lot of it on the plate. Personally, I like my KFC not in a lot of saucand smaller sized (yeah weird, I know) and with less breading (a la Domu or BonChon). But my husband *loved* them. So it's just a matter of taste. I got the shio ramen recently, because it had the enoki mushroom--a favorite of mine in ramen! It was delicious! My husband got the shoyu I think, and this time it came with bok choy (its in the description but wasn't there the previous time he ordered it). That looked really good too! He likes the tonkotsu broth the most tho. Anyways, still loving it and urge you to try different dishes! :) It's a good sign too, when you see lots of other Asians there!
Finally got the chance to try this super hot spot. Service was excellent with great and accommodating severs . The food came out fast and piping hot . The ramen is amazing. The inside is cozy and beautifully designed.
Hyped-up, but not quite hitting the mark. Modu Ramen is set up with a visually interesting concept--a fusion of Japanese and Korean décor with semi-private booths, bold signage, and a self-service ramen bar in front. However, the layout doesn't seem fully functional. Despite having the cooking station upfront, there's no way to order directly there, so diners carry their ramen from the booth to cook and back again--likely for the novelty, but it feels inefficient and confusing. Seating is tight--the booths are laid out with narrow walkways and oddly placed chairs that are perpendicular to the booths. We even saw a cart carrying food bump into a chair, causing a chicken wing to fall off. Unclear if it was replaced, but it wasn't reassuring. Food: Appetizer: Korean Chicken Wings - A letdown. Not double-fried, just basic wings with gochujang spooned on and garnished with green onions. Honestly, you could recreate this with Publix wings. Wouldn't recommend. Tsukemen (Spicy Level 10/10) - The broth was flavor-packed, umami-rich, and had a real spicy kick. Easily the highlight. But the noodles were stuck together from sitting out too long, and the soup had developed a skin layer, with the nori flopped over. It felt like the dish had been prepared too early and left out while the rest of the order was completed. A shame, because flavor-wise it was excellent. Tonkotsu Ramen - More standard but also had solid broth. Freshly made and much better in presentation and temperature than the tsukemen. Mango Cheesecake Bingsoo - Visually underwhelming. Expected a bowl like the promotional photos, but was served in a boba-style plastic cup. Thankfully, they used actual shaved milk ice, not crushed ice, so the taste and texture were on point--but the portion and presentation didn't justify the price. Environment & Cleanliness: Uncomfortably warm inside--no or weak AC made it stuffy, especially while eating hot soup. Restrooms were disappointing: dirty, no soap, barely any hand sanitizer in the women's room, and none in the men's. This raises food safety concerns. Staff: The staff was fantastic--friendly, responsive, and helpful throughout the visit. No complaints there. Overall: There's a lot of potential here with the creative concept and flavorful broths, but the execution, cleanliness, and ambiance really drag down the experience. With a few key changes, this place could live up to its hype--but as of now, I left disappointed.
Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Heard good things about their ramen so had to try. They advertised spicy Korean fried chicken so started off with that. It came really crispy and tasty but not that spicy. I ordered the bulgogi ramen in chicken broth and my bf ordered the curry ramen with tempura chicken. They were generous with the bulgogi and the broth was really good. But the star was the curry ramen. That broth was amazing! Super curry forward (but not too much) and it went well with all the ramen fixings. Service was a little slow and not really attentive but overall it was a good experience. It's a cute restaurant and would go again to order the curry ramen!
This ramen was to DIE FOR. I normally have shrimp or chicken but Modu has a new Bulgogi ramen and the taste was divine. A perfect blend of spicy and flavor. Also i cannot go to Modu without getting the koren fried chicken wings - Half spicy/Half Honey of course! A great dinner that i can eat daily to be honest!
The ramen broth of the Tonkatsu does taste like I'm in Japan! Its light yet flavorful and not too salty. I loved the taste of the chasu pork in it too. The noodles were a bit different than im used to but it was still delicious. The server was attentive and nice. The decor and inside were cozy and it does feel like a ramen shop. Its my fave ramen spot now.
Ramen Ramen and Ramen yumminess!! First off, Ashley, our server was so friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and just a pleasure to speak to. Secondly, the food came out quickly and hot. The flavor of the pork was amazing. Tender and delicious. I had the Matcha Ramen, my daughter the Tonkatsu.. both were really good. The Matcha was, in my opinion, much tastier and delicious. It had depth. I wish there were some edamame and corn added or some other veggies. The Oreo binsu dessert is 1000% worth it. It's light, sweet and melts in your mouth. Overall, the food and service were great the location is lackluster in terms of decoration, presentation and plates/utensils hence the 4star. If I were local, I'd definitely eat here again!
Service was great. I came during lunch time. I really enjoyed the ramen bar the have for shin ramen. Reminds of my time in Japan. The Tonkotsu ramen was very good. I ordered a heat level 5 and that was plenty! If you are more adventurous you can go higher up to 10. I will return here!
A Delicious Experience at Modu Ramen! We recently had the pleasure of dining at Modu Ramen on Baymeadows Road, and what a wonderful experience from beginning to end! One of the highlights of our visit was getting to meet Chef Kim, who came out personally to speak with us and walk us through the menu. He took the time to explain the different dishes, flavors, and ingredients, which made the experience feel so much more personal. You can truly feel the passion he has for what he creates. And a big shoutout to Christian, who took such great care of us throughout our meal. The service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. It made us feel right at home. We started with the Vegetable Gyoza and Corn Croquettes -- both were delicious and the perfect way to kick off the meal. For ramen, we had several different bowls so we could experience a little bit of everything: Beef Bulgogi Ramen -- tender beef bulgogi with chicken broth, a soft egg, Naruto, and bok choy. One thing I really appreciated is that if you don't eat pork, you can substitute the broth, making it easier to find something that works for your preferences. Curry Tonkotsu Ramen -- rich, flavorful curry broth with chicken, mushrooms, and corn. So comforting and packed with flavor! Vegetable Curry Ramen -- a delicious option for veggie lovers, with that wonderful curry flavor and plenty of satisfying ingredients. Of course, we couldn't stop at the food! Mango Sake -- fruity, refreshing, and such a fun pairing with the meal. Butterscotch Latte -- sweet, creamy, and absolutely delicious. A perfect little treat alongside dinner. And then came dessert... and this was definitely something special! Mango Bingsu -- light, refreshing, and full of mango flavor. Tiramisu Bingsu -- such a fun twist on traditional tiramisu! Creamy, indulgent, and the perfect way to end the meal. What I loved most about Modu Ramen was that it wasn't just about having a good bowl of ramen. It was the whole experience -- the welcoming atmosphere, Chef Kim taking the time to personally explain the menu, Christian's wonderful service, and all the different flavors coming together to make the meal memorable. Modu Ramen - One of the Best Ramen Experiences in Jacksonville! What an incredible meal at Modu Ramen on Baymeadows! This was easily one of the best ramen experiences I've had in Jacksonville. The flavors were so authentic that with every bite, I felt like my taste buds were taking a trip back to Japan. I loved that the ramen is customizable. You can choose vegetable, chicken, or pork broth, adjust the spice level, and select from different curry and spice options. This makes it easy to create a bowl exactly the way you like it. We tried the Vegetable Gyoza, Corn Croquettes, Beef Bulgogi Ramen with chicken broth, soft egg, naruto and bok choy, Curry Tonkotsu with chicken, mushrooms and corn, and Vegetable Curry Ramen. Every dish was flavorful, and the portions were generous and hearty. The Beef Bulgogi Ramen was a standout for me, with an amazing combination of Japanese and Korean flavors. The curry ramen had a wonderful depth and authentic spice. The broths are incredibly rich and flavorful, and you can substitute the broth if you don't eat pork. I've had similar styles of ramen in Japan, and Modu Ramen really brought back those flavors. The spice, depth of flavor and overall authenticity were outstanding. My taste buds were honestly in food-flavor nirvana! And I have to mention the Mango Sake--my favorite drink of the evening! We also enjoyed the Butterscotch Latte. For dessert, we finished with Mango Bingsu and Tiramisu Bingsu, both delicious and a refreshing way to end such a flavorful meal. Chef Kim was amazing and personally came out to talk with us about the menu and the dishes. You can tell he takes great pride in what he creates. Christian provided excellent service--friendly, attentive and quick. Modu Ramen isn't just another ramen restaurant. The combination of authentic flavors, customizable bowls, generous portions and Korean-Japanese influences makes this place special. Food was a huge miss for me. Bao bun was okay. Chicken wings were better. However, I came for the Japanese curry, and that was an utter disappointment. That's the problem when you deploy and hope to find the same magic in the states. I won't be back, but give it a try and form your own opinion. read more

Amazing place. The vibe gives authenticity. So much variety on the menu. Me and my three friends all got something different. I get the veggie ramen and it was so yummy. Wish the tofu was cooked a bit more, hard to bite off. The broth was perfect with all the toppings. On a personal note, the K-pop music was on point. I was singing and dancing in my seat, lols. Would love to try more next time. read more
I went here yesterday on a Saturday for lunch with my wife, her sister and her boyfriend. We all enjoyed our Ramen. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen (spicy). My wife had the Shoyu Ramen (spicy) and her sister and boyfriend both had the Curry Ramen (spicy). My sister-in-law wasn't a fan of Ramen until she had the Shoyu ramen here. My wife liked the Shoyu ramen as well saying it's her favorite she's had so far. We ordered some apps of Spicy Wings, Honey Wings and Gyoza. All were tasty. They make their noodles in-house. Now, if they only had some Bao buns with pork belly and Kara-age Chicken (like Crane Ramen has). They were out of Takoyaki, too. So if they had those items, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

As we walked in we were immediately greeted and asked to put our names on the list to be seated. Not even a minute passes by and we were sat at our table. Once seated the waitress took our drink order and wheeled us out menus and gave us a quick rundown of the menus. We ordered kimchi dumplings and a couple or ramen bowls and let me tell you we were impressed! The broth was the heartiest ramen broth I have been able to find in Jax. Modu Ramen was so delicious. I randomly saw someone post on social media about them having Bingsoo which I'm obsessed with since I first had it in Vegas. I decided to come on a Friday night, and I was pleasantly surprised to not only enjoy dessert but a fantastic meal. I was fortunate to try a few items on the menu. I loved everything, but a few items that stood out had to be the pillow soft bao buns and the crispy fried wings. The crunch on the wings were fantastic and the bao buns were just perfect. Moving on the ramen, the flavors were so rich, and you really got the umami flavors. I had the pleasure of trying the ramen that you dip in broth known as Tsukemen. It was so delicious. My cousin in law got the miso ramen, and she loved the rich flavors. Finally, the star of the night had to be the mango bingsoo which is a fantastic Korean shaved ice that will have your taste buds dancing. I was literally dancing in my seats eating this treat. This dessert alone will have me coming back. If I could give this review 10 stars, I would hands down. read more

I'm writing this review from the experience of two different visits, which were both great! As far as the food goes, with me and my lady's experience, it's been amazing. Both bowls in the photo as well as the kimchi were very good. The pork is amazing, super tender, and tastes awesome. The ramen, broth, and soft boiled egg were all very good as well. On our previous visit we also tried the Bau Buns, which were so so yummy. The meat was nice and crispy, the buns were so soft, and the sauce was the best part in my opinion. In terms of the food, we have loved everything we tried. As far as the service goes, we were helped by a younger guy the first time, who was very helpful in explaining things to us and had great service. Our most recent visit, we were helped by a younger woman, who was also very very nice and always had a smile on her face when attending to us. In summary, both the servers that we had on both our visits were very amazing. If I remember to get their names before we left, I would've gladly left them here to give them the credit they deserve. As far as the general vibe of the place, I would say it's really nice, but nothing to go too crazy about. The place has a nice general cozy feeling, with it being small and the booths are very cute with the little tapestry style curtains on the windows. Also, I loved the music choices from both our visits! Playing things like Daniel Ceaser, Tyler, the Creator, and Shade on our first visit. On our second it was a lot of older Japanese city pop sounding tracks. Both of these choices in music are very pleasant in my opinion. Last couple things I'd like to mention, I really enjoyed that they used metal chopsticks as opposed to the cheap wooden ones that most places use, I always get paranoid that the little wood pieces when you split them will end up in the food. Also, I find it funny that there's a little arcade machine in the front, and the arcade stick has Jin from Tekken on it, but the actual game on the screen had nothing to do with Tekken at all lol. But this isn't disappointing to me in anyway, just funny. read more

Best Ramen in Jacksonville! Whenever my wife and I go out on date night we like to get ramen. After going to all the places in Jacksonville we decided that this place is our favorite! We always get the tonkotsu ramen and an order of their wings. The ingredients are fresh, the servers are nice, and the quality is consistent. read more

I was really excited to try this place! The decor is perfect. Really feels like they captured the essence of a Japanese ramen shop. My waitress was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the spicy wings and the spicy tonkatsu. I try to stay away from pork, so I would have preferred one of the chicken broths, with some chicken protein in the soup. They didn't have any option to add chicken. What's the point of a chicken broth, but no chicken to add? So I decided to go with the tonkatsu to give this place a fair shot. The soup was very tasty. Great authentic flavors, a very well crafted bowl of ramen. The wings were very so-so. Not much spice or really any flavor to them. Overall, I give this place 4 stars for the authenticity and tasty soup, but minus a star for the lack of non-pork options and the mediocre wings. read more
