It's really cute inside and decorated like you're in a Japanese Izakaya. Arya is also the best server, he's literally everything you could ask for. He's also really consistent. EJ the bar manager is so friendly and makes the absolute most banger drinks. What I've always admired especially is how upscale it feels in there while having many items that are affordable. The chirashi was delicious, 5 out of 5! Sashimi was thick, fresh, and I like the variety of sashimi they chose. Dish had good proportions as well. My friends got other dishes and they were all worth the hype. One of my favorites that I tried was the yellowtail jalapeño - I would 100% get that next time. Make sure to make a reservation because the wait can be long, as expected for such a popular restaurant. There were 8 of us so they are friendly to larger groups. The ambiance is super lively. The waitress was helpful and service time was reasonable. I noticed that all of our dishes came at different times - some longer than others. My only comment is that I had hoped all the entrees came out all at once for everyone. All the staff were courteous & polite- looking like they are just doing their job diligently. But every team member we interacted with justa little extra (from the server, to the bartender, to the wait staff, to the host), opened up & treated us like we were diners that had visited 100 times before. We even shared vacation stories about a specific brand of Japanese whisky with the bartender who asked me to wait a few minutes while the delivery of whisky I ordered was completed so he could break open the box for me! I really wish I could give this place a better review but unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience on my first visit here. My husband and I made a reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were sat quickly which was nice but the restaurant is very loud, almost like everything echos off each other. It's not a very romantic ambiance. We ordered two drinks, two appetizers, and three entrees. I ordered the yakisoba noodles with shrimp and chicken, and they brought the dish to me without the shrimp. They corrected this and gave us an additional entree made correctly, but our waitress seemed irritated that we were served incorrectly and it was awkward. They also never brought out one of the appetizers and when we brought this up to our waitress when paying for the bill, she didn't apologize or anything, she just left to the back of the restaurant, then came back in silence and handed me the handheld pay thing that had the appetizer deducted. Before we left, we ordered a dessert to go and they packaged it up for us. When we got home and went to eat the dessert, it seemed like almost a joke when I saw the size of the matcha tiramisu. It literally was TWO bites worth that we paid $10 for, and it was not very good. It's just mascarpone cheese with matcha cake and matcha powder. Not much flavor at all. It was also weird that throughout the night, they never acknowledged our anniversary. Normally I wouldn't care, but it was weird that they asked me if it was for a special occasion, if they don't use that information for anything? Outside of the dessert, everything we ate was good, but the experience will keep us from going back to this restaurant. read more

I've visited twice within 3 days of each other! Both times have been absolutely excellent. I was so impressed, I raved about everything to a friend and he was hyped to go. Truth be told, I've been waiting for something of this caliber to open in Jacksonville, as I'm from Chicago and very accustomed to restaurants of this quality. Service was excellent, especially while sitting at the bar. We had an uber friendly server named Ernie, who made the visit that more enjoyable. The first visit I went with a couple and tried the husband's dish, which was the Japanese Beef Curry. That too is going to be added to the list of dishes I will purchase. Took us to long to finally get to Nomu but after this trip I know i will not take long for us to return. We made a reservation for an early Friday Night dinner and I highly suggest making that reservation because it books up very fast. Once seated we ordered a few appetizers and food to share with the table. We went with: Karaage Takoyaki Miso Creamy Mentaiko Udo The Chicken Karaage was crispy and came out nice and hot plus had a great crunch. I did wish I came with a sauce for dipping. This was my first time having Takoyaki and I actually really enjoyed it and it's for sure a must try. Plus at $7 you gotta try it. The Miso Creamy Mentaiko Udo was a complete game changer and one of the best dishes of the night and first sure must try. Plus it's not like it's something you can get at most Japanese restaurants in the first place. It is for sure a little tough to eat with chopsticks but it's so worth it. The flavors just paired together so well and I wasn't expecting it to work that well. For my entree their were a number of Special Sushi Rolls that sounded amazing but I had to get the newest addition to the menu, that being the Triple Crown which was loaded with fresh fish and one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had. It comes with Bluefin Tuna, King Salmon, Yellow Tail Belly, Tobiko, Spicy Mayo, Avocado, Fried Onions, Wasabi Sauce, wrapped in Soy Paper, Chef's kiss a must try roll. I also go an order of the Otoro ( Tuna Belly) Sashimi that was market price at $28 for 3 pieces. It was fatty and very buttery but it was also a little stringy from the fatty which surprised me. If I had to pick a favorite it had to be the Triple Crown there. Ashley got the Wagyu Don with the Japanese A5 and that was one of the best pieces of beef I have every had. No pics of Karaage, Chilean sea bass, or Wagyu don which were all great but the bite of the night was the Kaiyo tuna. The Chilean sea bass was a close second for sure. First time trying this place. I hadn't heard anything about it, but figured we'd try something new. We liked everything we ordered. What we ordered: I got a Yuzu Mocktail for $9. My wife got something with Dragonfruit for $14 or $16, I can't remember which...I'm so glad I don't drink..I'd go broke. Then, for apps we got some Miso-glazed Brussel sprouts, and some Yakitori skewers. I don't like Brussel sprouts but my wife enjoyed them a lot. The skewers were good as well. Then for our mains I got Katsu Pork and also some Beef Curry added on for $8 more, plus $1 to change from cabbage to rice. So those together were $30. My wife got the Gyudon. I felt the beef curry was a nice comfort food along with the rice to go with it. The Katsu Pork was crispy and tasted good, but felt it could have been a little more juicy. My wife enjoyed her Gyudon, but felt it had a little too much fat. Over all, we would go back again. The place was quite busy and bustling with a lot of younger patrons. So, it was kind of loud for me. Real Izakaya's in Japan are much smaller and are not trying to be trendy or hip. They are just doing what they do without a lot of fan fair and buzz. This place is trying to create a lot of hype for something ordinary in Japan. I feel that is evidenced in the prices. On average, the skewers are about $5 each. I feel that is pricey for these small bites, though they are good. And $21 for Katsu? This was not being marketed as some type of high-end pork, either. WOW! I was so blown away with the flavors of everything we had here. The unagi roll was smooth, flavorful and eel was melt in your mouth. The salmon don was small but it packed flavor and the salmon was seared so nicely. It is NOT easy to find a good yakitori place anywhere (even in NYC there's only a few) and they did it so well here! Juicy, grilled well enough to where you can get a little crisp from a bite, season well with the sauce as they grill it, you can taste that. I've never had anything like the creamy udon, it has some kind of seafoody alfredo taste and I love it. Everything was just so flavorful and good. 10/10. I didn't know much about this place before going, it just ended up being 5 mins away from me and had a high rating. Genuinely no regrets. We started off with the takoyaki and the tempura cod roll. Get the takoyaki. It was so rich and the egg and the cod roe and nori like omg i've just never had anything like it before. I downed the whole thing. It is heavy but I was super hungry so it was fine. Ended with the matcha tiramisu. Was light and refreshing, not too sweet at all but definitely was lacking a matcha flavor. It was kind of like an earthy mascarpone cake but it was still great and a much needed sweet treat. This place exceeded all expectations. There was initially a 45 min wait time but we were seated after 30 mins. I would reserve to avoid this especially around dinner time on the weekends. Place was still super packed even at 10pm. I visited Nomu Izakaya for the first time for a friend's birthday. James reserved the whole bar area which was good considering there were roughly 30 peeps that came out to celebrate. I first ordered the Ube Oasis which included toasted coconut rum, pineapple, and citrus. I enjoyed the drink. It was sweet but the citrus helped cut it so it wasn't too sweet. For my main course I ordered the grilled octopus. The octopus was tender with a smoky flavor. Yummy! Then my friend and I ordered a bunch of items from the Kushiyaki menu which means skewered and grilled foods in Japanese. My top favorites from this menu were the prime beef and tomatoes. The beef was tender, juicy and mouth watering good! I enjoyed the other items such as shrimp and corn. My second drink was the Matcha Bliss. This was my favorite drink out of the two. This included gin, matcha rice milk and egg white. It was sweet and refreshing and not overly matcha. I would absolutely order this drink again! I also tried my friends sushi, at least four different kinds. All the sushi was fabulous! Our server Kyle managed to keep everyone's order straight. This is for sure a Jax hotspot and a solid go to place for late night hangs or even just a casual dinner! The vibes are amazing, I feel like just the energy here even with all the workers is so upbeat. It's an ambiance that you can't just fake with decorations and lighting. (Not saying it's not well decorated here lol, but I do really like that the lighting is bright and not always half dimmed.) The prices are also pretty decent for what you get. When I think of izakaya, I usually think of small plates that you can maybe share amongst two people, or even enough to feed just one person. But Nomu is pretty generous with their portions! We got: Dassai 45 - They offer a lot of interesting drinks, but this sake really wowed me. I'm not a big drinker at all (and low-key kind of try to avoid it) but this is kind of a game changer. Despite being 90 proof, it goes down so clean and smooth. Its pretty pleasant on the tongue and the taste of alcohol doesn't even register until after you've swallowed. Even smelling it first, it doesn't sting you like rubbing alcohol, but gives off a really fruity smell. And I know this doesn't really have anything to do with the restaurant because it's not like they make this themselves, but I just liked it, so I recommend! Plus, if you finish a bottle, your table can sign the bottle and they'll put it up on display which is a cool little tradition. Agedashi tofu - We get this basically every time we go, but it'd just so good! The tofu is so silky, but the breading is thick enough to hold it together, but light enough that you get just a slight crunch with each bite. The sauce is really light too so it's the perfect appetizer to get your meal started. Takoyaki - also really good! The balls are hot and crispy, and the insides aren't too just and have a good amount of actual octopus inside. Seaweed salad - pretty classic dish and pretty good. I do wish it came out a little colder and a little more sour, but that's just my personal opinion because I really like vinegar. Karaage - another favorite for me! You get a good amount of chicken, and there's a good mix of skinny crispier pieces and thicker juicier bites. I've had a lot of good karaage dishes, but what really sells it for me with this dish is that the cabbage it comes with isn't dry. Like the cabbage by itself is already so good and saucy. Kabuki salmon - I feel like the draw for me here are the small plates rather than the sushi, but still a solid dish for when you want a heartier meal! The fish tastes pretty fresh but I feel like the roll itself is on the smaller side. Maybe it's because I'm a nigiri/sashimi fan, but I did kind of wish that there was more focus on the fish itself. Like maybe something simpler and with a bigger cut of fish. But also ya I recognize "go to a specifically sushi based restaurant if that's what you want" so it's whatever because the roll is still decent. Creamy mentaiko udon - this was my actual top favorite of the night. I do wish there was some more of the mentaiko. But in terms of the actual portion size, it's pretty big compared to other mentaiko udons I've had. We had edimame, more yakitoris, chicken karaage, miso creamy udon, another sushi roll. It was during prime dinner rush so our server was less attentive but got all of our needs in reasonable time. Third visit-highlight is the server. We were a larger party of 9. She was patient with all of us and remembered everything! Humored our requests for pictures. Even reminded us that tip has been included due to our large party. This time I had the emperor's crunch. I should've read the description closer because I didn't expect it to be a pork roll. It was still so good that my friend ended up ordering one for herself (I ordered mine as one of my apps). Also had more yakitoris. Someone had ruffle fries which was heaven! Each visit was satisfying for me. It's so good to see a place so busy, yet still manages to put out delicious, quality food and pretty great service. Kudos! read more

This spot is really special. Food - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 3/5 First, shout out to IVY, who did a wonderful job of steering us through the menu. Since this was our first visit, we needed steering since the menu is very diverse and also to keep us from ordering everything on the menu that looked good to us. Who is us? It was me and my daughter, who got a celebratory dinner for making straight A's. She worked so hard and deserved a night out. First, parking is in a private lot and there should be plenty of parking. I say plenty because this strip center also houses V's Pizz, 14 Prime and a few other dinner spots. Second, it is located near the IKEA on Gate Parkway, so it is accessible from several main arteries. But the food, you want to hear about the food, now don't you? Seaweed Salad - delightful, nutty finish, good start Vegetable Roll - good, well prepared Nomu Blossom - sounded good, but was really disappointing. Sweet Potato Roll - loved this, so good. Kabuki Salmon - OUTSTANDING dish, definitely worth a try. Miso Creamy Mentaiko Udon - one of the BEST dishes I have had this year. Really something special. The owner came by to check on us and he was a constantly in motion, which was a nice touch. We did not try dessert, but I am guessing it would be good. There is also a Hibachi station that serves skewers, which I definitely want to try on my NEXT VISIT. And yes, there will be a next time because in need tge Creamy Miso dish and there is a lot I want to try on the menu. read more
